Hometown hero Eddie Chacon, who you might know as half of the duo Charles & Eddie via their ‘90s mega-hit “Would I Lie To You,” is back with his second solo album for Stones Throw Records. Thirty years after the heyday of his pop success and on the heels of his 2023 LP Sundown, Chacon’s new album Lay Low is due on Jan. 31, 2025. As a bonus, it’s produced by one of our other favorite singers — Nick Hakim. “Empire” is a stunningly soulful track featuring the multi-talented LA staple John Carroll Kirby.

fWotD Episode 2592: The Ecstatic Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Sunday, 9 June 2024 is The Ecstatic. The Ecstatic is the fourth studio album by American rapper Mos Def, released on June 9, 2009, by the independent record label Downtown Records. After venturing further away from hip hop with an acting career and two poorly received albums, Mos Def signed a recording contract with Downtown and recorded The Ecstatic primarily at the Record Plant in Los Angeles. He worked with producers such as Preservation, Mr. Flash, Oh No, and Madlib, with the latter two reusing instrumentals they had produced on Stones Throw Records. The work of Stones Throw rapper MF Doom was also cited by Mos Def as an influence, while singer Georgia Anne Muldrow, formerly of the record label, performed as one of the album's few guest vocalists, along with rappers Slick Rick and Talib Kweli.Described by music journalists as a conscious and alternative hip hop record, The Ecstatic features an eccentric, internationalist quality. Mos Def's raps about global politics, love, war, spirituality, and social conditions are informed by the zeitgeist of the late 2000s, Black internationalism, and Pan-Islamic ideas, incorporating many Islamic references throughout the album. Its loosely structured, lightly reverbed songs use unconventional time signatures and samples taken from a variety of international musical styles, including Afrobeat, soul, Eurodance, jazz, reggae, Latin, and Middle Eastern music. Mos Def titled the album after one of his favorite novels, Victor LaValle's The Ecstatic (2002), believing its titular phrase evoked his singular musical vision. For the album's front cover, a still from Charles Burnett's 1978 film Killer of Sheep was reproduced in a red tint. The Ecstatic charted at number nine on the Billboard 200 in its first week of release and eventually sold 168,000 copies. Its sales benefited from its presence on Internet blogs and the release of a T-shirt illustrating the record's packaging alongside a label printed with a code redeemable for a free download of the album. To further support the album, Mos Def embarked on an international tour with concerts in North America, Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom between August 2009 and April 2010. As his DJ on the tour, Preservation began to develop remixes of the album's songs, which he later released on the remix album The REcstatic in 2013.A widespread critical success, The Ecstatic was viewed as a return to form for Mos Def and one of the best albums from 2009, with reviewers applauding its exuberant musical feel, adventurous creative range, and shrewd lyrical performances. Some publications ranked it among the greatest albums of the 2000s decade, including The Times at number 30. However, it struggled to reach mainstream audiences beyond Mos Def's fan base and led the already disillusioned rapper further away from the music industry, resulting in less recorded work from him over subsequent years. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:01 UTC on Sunday, 9 June 2024.For the full current version of the article, see The Ecstatic on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Olivia Neural.

B. Cox reviews West Coast hip-hop trio Tha Alkaholiks debut album 21 & Over, as it turns 30. The trio, made up of emcees Tash, E-Swift and J-Ro, formed in the late 1980s and were mentored by legend King Tee. After signing to Loud/RCA, the group started recording their debut album. The album would be a compact, but power-packed 35 minute effort that introduced this eclectic, but a serious group of emcess to the hip-hop game. The group's style, which was based around a fun-loving times filled with drinks, weed smoking and partying, was not of the slapstick or parody type of music that many thought it would be. Going more of the route of some of the West Coast contemporaries like Cypress Hill, Pharcyde and Souls of Mischief, the 'Liks' sound featured hard hitting and funky sample based beats with capable emceeing while maintaining a feel good vibe. The album featured the likes of Field Trip, Threat, the duo Lootpack (a young MadLib and Wildchild) from Stones Throw Records, and King Tee himself. The group and King Tee produced the majority of the album with E-Swift taking charge of much of the production credits. While none of the albums three singles charted on the Hot 100, they did catch on on the Hot Rap and R&B Charts and the group would gained a cult following in the coming years among West Coast fans and eventually worldwide due to their fun-loving demeanor while displaying a high level of emceeing and beats that could get the parties rocking or heads nodding.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comBuy Exclusive The Vault Podcast Merchandise!www.vaultclassicpod.com/storeSupport The Vault Classic Music Reviews on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodBuild Your Own Amazing Podcast Website In Less Than 5 Minutes!https://www.podpage.com/?via=ivecre8Show NotesAlbumism: Tha Alkaholiks Debut Album '21 & Over' Turns 25 | Anniversary Retrospectivehttps://albumism.com/features/tha-alkaholiks-debut-album-21-and-over-turns-25-anniversary-retrospectiveTime Is Illmatic: Tha Alkaholiks: 21& Overhttps://timeisillmatic.me/2017/06/02/tha-alkaholiks-21-over-august-24-1993/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Gabriel Garzón-Montano has had a stunning run for someone who has done virtually no self-promotion: He first caught the ear of singer Meyer Hawthorne, who sent his self-produced debut to Stones Throw Records. That landed Garzón-Montano on tour with Lenny Kravitz in 2014, which is where he was when he learned that Drake wanted to sample his song “6 8." His music has since evolved from spare R&B, influenced by Prince and Stevie and even Radiohead, to include elements of reggaeton, ambient, folk and trap. On June 18, you can see him for yourself when he performs at the inaugural Brooklyn Magazine Festival at the LeFrak Center, Lakeside in Prospect Park. We also talk about where the idea to start Stones Throw came from, how to stay enthusiastic about music when it is your job, and why streaming, in many cases, is helping rather than hindering labels. Key Points From This Peanut Butter Wolf Episode:What Chris's life was like growing up and his first musical influences and inspiration. Some of the first records and albums Chris remembers getting. How Chris started collecting 12 inches in fifth grade. An older person in Chris's life who introduced him to a lot of music. What Chris was doing before he started working with Charizma. How Chris met Charizma, and the relationship they had. The story of how Chris and Charizma started working together. The importance of having fans who have accomplished what you hope to achieve. How Chris and Charizma's manager helped them after they got signed. Hear how Charizma died and the impact that this had on Chris. The role that music played in helping Chris deal with Charizma's death. Some of the first gigs that Chris and Charizma played. Major lessons Chris learned from performing with Charizma. How Chris came to work with Kool Keith. Where Chris first got the idea to start a record label. Balancing musical tastes and trying to stay afloat as a label head. What it takes to run a label and some of the people on the Stones Throw Records team. How Stones Throw came to be a fully-kitted-out label. The biggest challenge that comes with running a record label. The decision to create the Stones Throw Records vinyl bar. Gratitude Chris feels for being around great music. What being a new father has been like for Chris. How Chris started using video in his performances. Chris's take on streaming services and why he supports these services. Why Chris feels like streaming helped save his label in some ways. Experiences where handshake deals have gone wrong in the past. Chris's top record label and producer picks. “As a label, we split our profits 50/50 with the artists, and we're transparent with our accounting.” — Chris Manak [1:15:36]“I think streaming helped save our label in certain ways.” — Chris Manak [1:16:19]Links Mentioned in Today's Episode:https://www.stonesthrow.com/artist/pbwolf/ (Chris) https://www.stonesthrow.com/ (Stones Throw Records) https://www.instagram.com/anderson._paak/?hl=en (Anderson .Paak)...
In a world where everything is transient, Sofie Fatouretchi just wants to create something beautiful that lasts. The Vienna-based artist, who performs under her first name, started her musical journey as a classically trained violinist before becoming a global DJ and talent scout for the indie label Stones Throw Records. In 2016, she curated the underground hip-hop and soul compilation Sofie's SOS Tape, which featured her chill Mndsgn collaboration "Abeja." Now she has released her full-length debut solo album, Cult Survivor. Going through the songs on the album it's clear that she isn't afraid to look inward and tap into what she finds for lyrical inspiration.Today on the Songfacts Podcast, Sofie and I chat about some of these new tunes, we examine the way she was feeling as she was writing the album, and she graces us with a stripped-down version of her song "Truth Of The Matter." Originally recorded on January 30, 2021, this episode of TNT kicks off season 2 of the show and discusses the debut album "Madvilliany" by Madvillian (MF Doom + Madlib) released on March 23, 2004, by Stones Throw Records.
Mndsgn - "Hope You're Doin' Better," a 2021 single on Stones Throw Records. On his latest LP Rare Pleasure, L.A.-based producer Mndsgn (real name: Ringgo Ancheta) finds influence in the soundtracks of the '70s and '80s, stating the repetitions "echo the recurring motifs we experience in life, sometimes being revisited by the same lessons in different shapes and forms." With today's Song of the Day, in particular, he channels an emotional experience into a laid-back summery groove. In a press statement, he shares: “During the holidays in 2018, my father had a complete mental breakdown. It was during a family party which made it all the more dramatic and equally traumatic for everyone that was there. I stayed in LA that year so I received the news remotely. It was heartbreaking to say the least. In the following months, he plunged into a deep downward spiral that involved him quitting his job, isolating himself from family, including myself & giving us an alarming concern that he could potentially end his life if he continued down the path he was on. It was a desperate cry for help.” He adds, "Although communication between each other was severed, it allowed the opportunity to truly acquaint myself with the concept of loving from afar... a song I think many can relate to when we feel communication is still sought after even when we feel it isn't available.” Read the full post on KEXP.org Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Lo speciale dedicato alla Stones Throw Records e tanta buona black music selezionata da Vito Santamato.
We are so thrilled and honored to have a brilliant guest and co-host join us today. Our guest, The Twilite Tone (Anthony Khan), is a three-time Grammy-nominated musician and producer who has worked with artists including Gorillaz, Kanye West, Common, Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, Big Sean, Judith Hill, and John Legend. Born in Chicago, Tone’s formative years began working with close peers and pivotal collaborators such as the Grammy Award winning producer No-ID and Oscar Award Winning artist Common. Tone eventually landed work as an acclaimed DJ, pioneering the rising Chicago music scene and beyond. Tone proceeded to work with some of the most reputable artists and innovators in the music industry. He most recently put out his first debut solo album “The Clearing'' with Stones Throw Records in 2020 that marked a highlight for his career’s evolution. Our co-host, Grace Lee, has been mentored by Tone since age 16. You may recognize her from our IG Live Sunday Supper a few weeks ago. Grace, a Juilliard alumni, is a phenomenal interdisciplinary artist who has been a leader in women-owned and operated projects - beginning with Liaison Femme, the first all-female DJ collective which she founded in 2010. Most notably Grace collaborated with our past guest Camille Becerra as the creative director and co-founder of the James Beard award-winning New York restaurant, De Maria. Tone and Grace give us a glimpse into their beautiful and connected relationship. We discuss Tone’s journey in the music industry, his creative process, spiritual musings, role as an activist, and his hope for more unity than division among the Human race and Earth. On this episode of the pod, we talk Lil Uzi Vert getting a $24 million diamond pierced to his forehead, Kanye West getting sued for $30 million for underpaying the Sunday Service Choir, and Joe Budden inking a deal with Patreon. This led to an unexpected and broader conversation about the importance of black ownership and how capitalism has it's roots deep in the music industry. Ryan and Ibe also head up a conversation about Public Enemy and their personal experiences regarding the themes of their music. These throwback Episodes initially aired public but were removed as a result of the change in plans of the audio service we were using before. Now we are happy to share these insightful interviews which began the AUDIO journey of Artist Interviews with Out Da Box Radio. Original Show Description: Out Da Box Radio is happy to bring you a special interview with Queens bred Emcee “Homeboy Sandman”. We got the chance to speak with Sandman on a number of in-depth subjects, ranging from his initial passion to pursue music, his grind on the come up as an independent Emcee, as well as the benefits of signing to Stones Throw Records. He also spoke in detail about his progression and mature development as an individual, from making healthy dietary decisions, to being a more responsible artist and continuing his passionate work as a writer despite no longer penning articles for the Huffington Post. As the interview progressed, Homeboy Sandman took a moment to give some insight into more project related subjects, such as an upcoming release, compiled with all of his “Out Now” promo tracks. He also spoke on the possibilities of some point collaborating with producer Madlib, as well as his reasons for working with producers like EL RTNC (RThentic) and M. Slago. It was indeed a fulfilling pleasure to build with the brother Homeboy Sandman, he gave some great insight into some really important issues that affect us as a people today, whether it’s the GMO affected foods that we have to be skeptic of today or our generally apathetic attitude towards seeking useful information rather than access to entertainment and sensationalized media, each topic was carefully discussed. Homeboy Sandman’s latest release "All That I Hold Dear" is in stores now along with his RThentic produced “Kool Herc: Fertile Crescent EP” via Stones Throw Records. If you like what you hear, feel free to go ahead and support with a purchase. In the meantime, please take the time to listen to our amazingly thought provoking interview with the man himself and definitely feel encouraged to share and spread the word. Enjoy and Be Inspired!

In the first episode of RELEVANT PARTIES we meet Chris Manak, better known as Peanut Butter Wolf. As the founder of Stones Throw Records, Manak is behind some of the most ground-breaking hip-hop records ever made, assisting artists like Madlib, J Dilla and MF Doom to reach their creative peaks. But although Stones Throw will always be associated with a certain seam of underground beatmaking, the Los Angeles label is home to every kind of musical eccentric: from Mayer Hawthorne’s vintage soul and the eccentric grooves of Dâm-Funk to Gary Wilson’s lo-fi new wave and experimental pop from Sudan Archives. Manak talks to Chal Ravens about the label’s musical growth, his childhood in San Jose, the tragic loss of his rap partner Charizma, and the extraordinary experience of watching a Stones Throw single go platinum around the world. Could she be the biggest Mayer Hawthorne fan ever!? In honor of his birthday yesterday, Jackie Lo returns to the pod as we talk about one of the biggest independent musicians in the business today. We'll dive into the music he released as both a solo artist and as one half of the duo "Tuxedo" with Jake One. This includes the collaborations from such tracks as "Do It" with Pitbull to "Crime" with Kendrick Lamar. Plus, we'll discuss leaving the independent label "Stones Throw Records" to the major labels of "Universal Republic" & "Vagrant", and why he went back. Also please note this was recorded last year, but I will update you towards the end of the show what he has going on since then. Also, if you would like to check out more of his great content from tours, music to merch and more, check out MayerHawthorne.com

In this 13th Episode of Out Da Box Talks 2019. Host Cril talks with Native NYC emcee "Homeboy Sandman" about his latest LP "Dusty" now available on Mello Music Group. He gives insight on how the album title came to be, his relationship in working with DUSTY's producer "Mono En Stereo" as well as the most valuable things he's learned from his experience releasing music with Stones Throw Records. At the request of host "Cril", Homeboy Sandman takes the time to explain the meaning behind some of his intriguing lines from songs like "Easy" and "Live and Breathe" and he even expounds on some mindful convo inspired by his recent interview with Peter Rosenberg on Hot 97 Radio. If you're a fan of Homeboy Sandman as a creative artist especially his lyrics on DUSTY, this interview will be an insightful one to check for. Enjoy!
DC’s Mike James and Mollie Ames discuss: If cussing were socially acceptable and everyone did it all the time, then that would be the only time we would ever consider not cussing so much. (Part 1 of the Podcast only content) It's hard to decide which is more hilariously sad: the Browns on the field woes or the Browns off the field woes? Defining what racism and prejudice terms are and how they work, but is it racist to have a racist term for racists? Created a new term that's one of the best things this show has ever come up with: "People-ish" The experience of playing in a 24 hour pinball tournament. (Part 2 of the Podcast only content, begins around the 1:10:00 mark) Lachlan MacKinnon’s “Best Of” edition of Let Me Tell You A Story: “Speech Impediment” (begins around the 1:36:00 mark) Just because you are in uniform and everyone is told to hero worship you doesn't mean you are entitled to be an inconsiderate asshole. Setting off airport security alarms because of your fine, fine ass lovin', and why Mike considered jamming his big metal participation medallion up his tuchus hole. (Part 3 of the Podcast only content, begins around the 2:11:00 mark) Realizing Baker Mayfield is hot trash, and that it's just a question of how long we'll have to wait before the team finally realizes it. The best pizza in all of Connecticut, and maybe the world, is Sally's Apizza. Mollie’s Weekly Report: Uncovered titties are the best titties of all, but these strippers captured on the broadcast of Game 5 of the World Series exposing their tits and calling it charity work, are nothing more than nefarious lying assholes, with tits. (Part 4 of the Podcast only content, begins at the 2:43:00 mark) Odell Beckham Jr. needs the ego bubble he exists in to be opened up a bit so a small sample of reality can sink in a little bit. Accidents happen and tragedy is a sad part of life, but something isn't adding up about Chris Smith from the Browns getting a citation for failure to control, when the person who hit his broke down car on the median of I-90 that killed the mother of his child wasn't charged with anything. All this and so much more on this episode of the Defend Cleveland Podcast. Enjoy~ To contribute to this 100% listener supported show please go to our Patreon page by clicking here. Check out Lachlan MacKinnon’s best selling book, ‘Let Me Tell You A Story: Small Stories Of A Large Family’! Thank yous to 91.1-FM WRUW Cleveland for being home to the show, and to the city that inspires us, Cleveland, Ohio. Your recommended listening for the week is the new Sudan Archives album "Athena" available via Stones Throw Records. The intro and outro to Lachlan’s segment is the song “My Summer In Traction” by the band Ohio Civil War , and it’s used with permission.

***Before we begin just so you know even though Mr.B is a founder of his own label, he is a major stan for Stones Throw Records, we don't blame him at all.***** But yes we are closing out the year with a mix of dope beats and remixes for Christmas, we know it was supposed to be released on Christmas Eve but I'm sure Mr.B will explain that to you in the show. So, we hope you enjoy today's selections and we hope you have a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays which ever one you like.

Eothen "Egon" Alapatt is the guest on this week's episode of The Chauncey DeVega Show. He is the founder and president of Now-Again Records, the reissue imprint he founded in 2002. He oversees all of the label's reissues and manages a vast catalog of music from the 1950s through the present day, with a focus on the mid-1960s through the mid-1980s. He is the creative director of the J. Dilla Estate and is partners with Madlib in Madlib Invazion. Eothen was also Stones Throw Records' general manager from 2000 until 2011. He is also one of the world's foremost record collectors--aka "crate digger"--of lost funk, soul, hip hop, rock, and other music. During this episode of The Chauncey DeVega Show, Eothen and Chauncey discuss the hidden roots of hip hop music and culture in New Haven, Connecticut, their parallel experiences growing up there, and all of the important and fascinating hip hop gatekeepers and personalities they encountered outside of the New York City area. Eothen also shares some stories about digging for lost musical gems, the current state of commercial hip hop, the commodification of "world music", and what has been lost in the transition from analog to digital culture. And of course, Eothen reflects on J. Dilla's musical legacy. In this week's episode, Chauncey DeVega updates everyone on his travels which included some critical self-reflection, an imminent big decision, encountering a ghost, falling in love twice, eating too much, seeing dear friends, the financial obligations of only children, Mama DeVega's nagging and how he needs to be a better son. And at the end of this week's show Chauncey is simultaneously titillated and upset by white racist Republicans who are into Bigfoot Porn and other interspecies erotica.
The founder of Stones Throw Records and long time business associate of Madlib, Dilla, and Doom came by and we talked about his entire history and the amazing artist he's worked with over the years.
Hiphopen har gått från att vara en nischad genre till att bli störst, men det finns en alternativ scen en bit utanför rampljuset. Här har bolaget Stones Throw Records varit ledande sedan starten 1996.

In a continuation of the May series spotlighting Stones Throw Records, Sam sits down this week with Alexander Brettin, also known as Mild High Club. With two albums under his belt, 2015's Timeline and last year's Skiptracing, Alex has become skilled at making music that defies simple categorization--a local radio station once described his sound as "LA Slack Funk Psychedelia." In person, Alex is both complex and candid: he's eager to talk about his lifelong relationship with music, from Andrew Lloyd Webber to Sade, but admits he doesn't enjoy revisiting his own work. Over the course of the episode, he and Sam also touch on Alex's upbringing, his role at Stones Throw, and why he's not cut out to be a poster boy. ------------------------------------------------- Music for the show provided by @Vanilla and @jinsangbeats. This week, Sam continues the May spotlight on Stones Throw Records by sitting down with DJ J Rocc. J Rocc is the founding member of the The World Famous Beat Junkies, an influential west coast DJ crew formed in the early ‘90s. Rocc was one of the first to join Stone’s Throw Records, and here he speaks frequently, but good-naturedly, about the ever-changing music scene. Rocc will also be the first to tell you that he’s tried it all, which, according to him, in the ‘90s meant DJing, rapping, breakdancing and graffiti. When he’s not discussing growing up in Orange County and the early days of Stones Throw on Talk Easy, Rocc’s current projects include a Beat Junkies radio station and a DJ school. ------------------------------------------------- Music for the show provided by @Vanilla and @jinsangbeats. This week Sam sits down with DJ and music producer Chris Manak, also known as Peanut Butter Wolf. Chris has been active in the music industry since the late '80s, and founded the LA-based independent record label @StonesThrow Records in 1996. For over 20 years, Chris' label has demonstrated a far-reaching taste in music, representing the many flavors of hip-hop alongside cross-genre and experimental acts. My guest this week is CX KIDTRONIK. He’s a producer, DJ, vocalist and videographer with a musical resume that goes back to the 80’s. We first got to know each other when he contributed to my Height With Friends Versus The Continental MC’s album. We talk about his childhood in Madison, WI and the hip-hop and hardcore punk that influenced him there. I ask him about his collaborations with Atari Teenage Riot, Saul Williams, Rammellzee and Kanye West and what he took away from those experiences. We also discuss releasing his two Krak Attack albums through Stones Throw Records, working as a fetish clip director and his new Sewer Rats BK project. Mike Riley’s art this week is an homage to Mantronix’s In Full Effect. This episode is hosted by Splice Today.
Episode #16: In the second installment of our "Gatekeeper's Roundtable," we speak with Ali Hedrick of The Billions Corporation about some of the new acts that she's working with, and how they've come to her, or vice versa. Christen Green adds to the conversation by telling us about how she ended up working with The Lumineers, among the other notable acts that are a part of Onto Entertainment. We also have Nate Nelson tell us the story about how he ended up at Stones Throw Records via the leaked Madvillain demos, and how his experience there ultimately led him to start Innovative Leisure. Don't think for a second that this is a puff piece chock full of "success stories." We dig in, and ask these folks about who they regret passing on, too! Lots of valuable "what not to do" information in this episode. GUESTS Ali Hedrick (The Billions Corporation) Christen Green (Onto Entertainment) Nate Nelson (Innovative Leisure) MUSIC Margaret Glaspy "Somebody To Anybody" The Lumineers "Ho Hey" Horse Feathers "Finch On Saturday" Horse Feathers "Old Media" Madvillain "Accordian"
If you love J. Dilla, Madlib, MF Doom, Mayer Hawthorne, Aloe Blacc, and Dam Funk then you have Peanut Butter Wolf to thank. We're in studio with the king of the West Coast underground. Through his label, Stones Throw Records, Peanut Butter Wolf has given the world important, and sometimes commercially successful music from J. Dilla, Madlib, MF Doom, Mayer Hawthorne, Aloe Blacc, and Dam Funk, among others. He also crosses genres as if they didn’t exist, taking experimental, or just plain weird explorations into punk, psychedelic and other fringe sounds from folks like James Pants, Vex Ruffin, and Mild High Club. On top of all that, he maintains an active DJ career, a series of Stones Throw events, and was the subject of a 2014 documentary: Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton. And although he has built a successful business — now celebrating its 20th anniversary and revered by music fans for consistently breaking credible and interesting acts — Wolf could hardly be called a businessman (although he is definitely a business, man). He’s much more of a cult leader, gaining (and possibly losing a few) devotees with each new release. How: He simply puts out music that he loves and wants people to hear, flying in the face of the reborn, data-driven music industry. Listen in as we explore how he keeps his creativity sharp and what drives him to keep it moving into his third decade.

BANG! @southernvangard #radio presents the @meda4ox #interview session! We continue our tour through Oxnard with the mighty MED, aka Medaphoar, who is putting quite a stamp on the end of 2015 with the "Bad Neighbor" LP, which is a collaboration with Blu and Madlib. We talk highlights and guest features from the LP, how he and Blu originally met and what'scoming in 2016 from MED's imprint Bang Ya Head Records. We always take time to go back and do a little history - how he met up with Madlib, Romes, Wildchild and the rest of Oxnards's hip-hop luminaries, appearances on the early Lootpack records, his tenure at Stones Throw Records and the new found independence he has with with his new label. All of this and more can be found inside - come on in and stay for a little while! // #smithsonian #grade #download #stream #listen #enjoy // southernvangard.com // @southernvangard on #itunes #podcast #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud // #hiphop #rap #dj #mix #interview #podcast #ATL #OXNARD #WORLDWIDE Recorded live Nov 15, 2015 @ Dirty Blanket Studios, Marietta, GA southernvangard.com @southernvangard on #itunes #podcast #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud twitter/IG: @jondoeatl @southernvangard @cappuccinomeeks
Grab them cakes! It’s an action-packed week again in Springbreakland. We’ve got another rasslin’-related party jam, this one by Junkyard Dog. The Colonel gives a shout-out to The Brew Stooges taproom in Huntsville, Alabama as the gang enjoys a couple bottles of Founders Curmudgeon. Then we check out a recent 45 by Giuda and some non-soundtrack music by horror/sci-fi director John Carpenter. On the subject of movies, the Stones Throw Records documentary also gets discussed. And did you know that Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments “Straight to Video” album has finally gotten a vinyl release? Plus: Bobby retires his title and tries to summarize a classic Motley Crue video. The Colonel acquires a can of Flarp and can’t stop making disgusting sound effects. “Fleetwood” Slacks has a new catchphrase or two. P.A. Dave is in the house and on the assist.
Intro : - L'Orange et Jeremiah Jae : Taken By The Night 3. Mix Future Basics : Playlist non communiquée. 2. Interview Tuxedo : - Tuxedo : So Good - Tuxedo : Lost Lover - Tuxedo : Do It - Tuxedo : I Got U 4. La Muzulière : - Fulgeance et DJ Scientist : Imperialist Monsters L'album éponyme de Tuxedo est disponible sur le site de Stones Throw Records

We discuss the forthcoming Fall release “You’re Welcome” as well as hearing the truth behind how the De La Soul classic were made. Far from a reserved interview, this lengthy feast takes every hip hop fan on a ride through time and Maseo explains how De La Soul have always produced their own music since day one, with Prince Paul simply acting as an Executive Producer. We discuss the intricacies of radio, food and more importantly the brand new De La Soul album in this comprehensive guide to hip hop’s most adored group. Silly people miss serious things. Check this. Underground champion R.A The Rugged Man makes his third appearance on The Friday Night Live Show to talk about his new album 'Legends Never Die' and everything in between. High off of life, R.A speaks on the satisfaction and accomplishment he feels in completing his album, the cover art for 'Legends Never Die', why 30+ songs didn't make the final cut ('specifically in the form of 'A Tall Tail' and a song produced by Prince Paul), collaborating with Talib Kweli, Tech N9ne and Hopsin, plans of releasing the often delayed 'Bad Biology OST', writing and recording the now classic Rawkus Records gem 'Stanley Kubrick' in just 20 minutes, Conspiracy Theories and so much more! N.O.R.E aka P.A.P.I, commonly known to Hip Hop as the legendary Noreaga details the making of his first solo release since 2007's 'Noreality' among many other topics including; the mixed reviews that 'Student Of The Game' was recently met with, appealing to different generations, striving to be a teacher in making the album, the science behind the track 'Camouflage Unicorns', the story behind the 'Head' skit off his debut 'N.O.R.E', the upcoming CNN album, which he reveals will very likely feature Q-Tip, DJ Premier and Alchemist handling production duties, being open to accepting beats from UK producers, featuring on the new Tragedy Khadafi album on a song with Imam Thug, being banned from the UK and so much more. Listen and email us for the chance of your production being used on the upcoming CNN project. Homeboy Sandman is back! Loaded with his signature wisdom and refreshing honor, we discuss and touch on the many factors that played a role in the creation of his latest offering 'Kool Herc: Fertile Crescent'. We explore the release that contrary to its marketing Sandman wants people to look at as a project rather than an EP and touch on everything from its inception, production, samples, cover-art and beyond! We also learn that some of the tracks from the project are the tracks that lead to his deal signing to Stones Throw Records and that the project marks the start of a continuing series of similar releases. Pay homage to a leader of the new school and listen! A vague Talib Kweli takes us as prisoners of his conscious to discuss his latest offering and more. We talk making ' Prisoner Of Conscious', collaborations, the philosophy in which he chooses to base making his music off, his close to unmatched internet presence, the success of Kendrick Lamar and the cause and effect inspiration its had on him as an artist, being a natural optimist and why this overrides his observations of social issues in the world. He says Mista Montana and Menace should move. Hear him. Marco Polo joins us for a feature length interview exploring his stupendous career to date and his latest new FREE album 'Newport Authority 2'. We talk making 'New Port Authority' and how the politics surrounding his upcoming album 'Port Authority' inspired its manifestation, sampling issues, working with Das-EFX, R.A. The Rugged Man, recording 'G.U.R.U.', plans of recording a follow-up release to 2009's 'Double Barrel' with Torae, a potential sequel to 'The Stupendous Adventures of Marco Polo' (but with a twist), his dad putting him up on Native Tongues, taking out Noreaga in a Newport smoking stand off, his upcoming project with Hannibal Stax entitled 'Seize The Day' and so much more! STREAM or DOWNLOAD On this sinister Friday 13th show Mista Montana and Menace do this: Slaughterhouse join us mid-way through a busy recording session with Eminem to tell us all about their new album, with Crooked I breaking down the new “Psycho” track produced by Em. With Eminem sat opposite, we hear how intensive their studio time has been this week, with over 50 songs already laid down featuring a host of high profile producers. As excited as their fans for this release, Crooked I cites this forthcoming Slaughterhouse album as some of the group’s best ever work, with hopes to make a exhibition-style on-record battle track with HRSMN happen soon. We hear how pivotal Eminem is to the process of success for the group, as he sits at the boards mixing down their latest track as the interview proceeds. In addition to this we also discuss how The Horseshoe Gang have developed as a group and how important they are to their mentor Crooked I. A true classic update and an unforgettable piece of Conspiracy history. Detroit statue Danny Brown was one of the most refreshingly prolific artists of 2011! Accomplished, proud and humble, he joins us on this episode to celebrate and talk the magnitude of his impact in 2011, including some of our favourite releases XXX and Black & Brown!, garnering mainstream media recognition, directing video's, ambitions of one day writing a Jay-Z Decoded esque book, collaborating with rising UK producer Paul White, blurring the lines between street slang and internet slang, Mr. MF Exquire, Mac Miller, Jack White, new material and more in a info-packed feature, guaranteed to make you watch Danny Brown' s every move in 2012 An awake and content Copywrite joins us us to discuss his forthcoming LP God Save The King, detailing its content and direction with the revelation that it was initially set to be an album exclusively made for the UK. Filled with a renewed belief and energy in spreading the word of God, we are surprisingly informed that he "doesn't care about rap.." and that he isn't fond of the content of his new album beyond two tracks, both of which will reveal a deeper and more religious side of Copywrite. We also talk 2011's MHZ lost Demo's and rare freestyle's compilation as well as the forthcoming MHZ studio release and much more in an interview with a Copywrite you have prior to this never before heard. Super producer Apollo Brown & Diggin' In The Crates crew emcee O.C. step on to the show to explore their forthcoming collaborative project Trophies and their chemistry. Conceptualised in New York and recorded entirely in Detroit, Michigan, for the first time im O.C.'s career Trophies see's him working with one producer in its entirety as well as the first time Apollo Brown has collaborated with a golden age emcee for a full length release. Pioneers and students, these two artists are set to make some of the most reassuring music of 2012, so it was our pleasure to share time with them on the show. Homeboy Sandman waltzes into the studio, platter in his hands, delivering us food for thought on his forthcoming ep, Subject Matter, which will see its release via Stones Throw Records later this month. Ever eloquent, engaging and thought provoking, Sandman breaks down the subject of his matter and makes the most of mattering as the subject in this interview, breaking down songs off Subject Matter as well as blessing us with an acapella at a Grocery store. Homeboy Sandman is an emcee that matters in 2012 and will continue to matter as his subject resonates with Hip Hop heads across the world! Inspirational listening. Newcomers Rashad and Confidence surprised many by putting out one of 2011's finest pieces of work, The Element Of Surprise, so it was a no-brainer that the Brooklyn and Philly natives joined us to discuss the album's making and formulation of its origins, citing a genuine and paralleled love for each others work, and finding inspiration in Golden-Age Hip Hop. We also talk the now much anticipated sequel to The Element Of Surprise, silent fans and supporters and much more! Don't sleep on these guys, crew. AND THAT’S NOT ALL! Sons Phonetic are one of Ireland’s dopest hip hop collectives, making music with the type of depth and heart that the UK hip hop scene once cherished. Their recently video-supported tracks Casino and Isolation are some of the best examples of hip hop you will hear all year. So it was our honour to talk with the group and gain a better understanding of their background, their passion for the hip hop craft and their plans for 2012, including solo projects from many of the group’s members. Definitely add Sons Phonetic to your Bookmarked Artists for the forthcoming months. Enjoy our pushing! E Mail: conspiracyworldwide@gmail.com BBM Pin: 22192BE3
