This Tuesday, we talk with RICHARD GASPARIAN and Robin Nuyen about Siegfried’s Brain! This episode is sponsored by Deadly Grounds Coffee "Its good to get a little Deadly" https://deadlygroundscoffee.com https://www.siegfriedsbrain.com/ https://twitter.com/siegfriedsbrain https://www.facebook.com/siegfriedsbrain https://www.instagram.com/siegfriedsbrain/ Richard: a legendary timing director on such shows as THE SIMPSONS, KING OF THE HILL, DISENCHANTED, EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS and FAMILY GUY to talk about his new horror-comedy HOUSESITTER. ROBIN NUYEN studied in New York at the William Esper Studio, HB Studio and additionally studied Shakespeare with Jack Weatherall. While in New York, Robin appeared in the soaps One Life to Live, Guiding Light and All My Children and also played Roy in the film Lone Star. His New York Theater credits include BECKETT at the National Art Theater and Jacob Marley in A CHRISTMAS CAROL. An idealist medical student with a serious Elvis obsession and a determination to perfect his rat-to-rat brain transfer discovers his beloved professor and mentor is secretly a mad scientist who embarks on a murderous spree to get 13 human brains for his own terrifying experiment. Written and Produced by Richard Gasparian and Robin Nuyen Filmed entirely in 1987, Housesitter...The Night They Saved Siegfried’s Brain sat unfinished for thirty-two years. Now, with post-sound from Skywalker Sound and final picture from Paramount Pictures color department, it is at last completed. Combining 1980’s horror and 1950’s sci-fi, it is the story of Andy, an idealist medical student with a serious Elvis obsession, who is determination to perfect his rat-to-rat brain transfer to “help mankind and change the face of modern science”. After his final experiment fails and blows up, Andy loses his chance to travel abroad and study at the prestigious Reinhardt Institute. With his future in doubt, and with no place to live, his future looks bleak. Little does Andy know that his beloved professor and mentor, Doc Crosby, is actually a mad scientist who has been murdering people and stealing their brains for experiments in his makeshift “black and white” laboratory. When Doc realizes that his own brains so severely damaged from experimenting on himself, and that he will be dead in a matter of hours without a successful brain transfer, he hatches a scheme to acquire the thirteen human brains needed for his “brain pyramid”. Knowing that Andy is homeless and that college kids can’t resist having big parties, Doc invites Andy to housesit while he goes away on “business”. After he frees his deranged lab assistant from the insane asylum, and with his house now full of healthy unsuspecting college kids, Doc’s trap is set. When the party begins, so does the deadly game of cat and mouse. Will Andy save his friends from the scalpel of a madman, or will Doc succeed in his murderous plot to save his own life by completing the first even human brain transference procedure? From Robin Nuyen, and written and produced by Richard Gasparian and Robin Nuyen, Housesitter : The Night They Saved Siegfried’s Brain stars Holly Kaplan (‘’American Crime Story’’, Shocker), Robert Small (Flight of the Navigator, “Seaquest 2032”), and Stephen James Carver (“Star Trek : The Next Generation”, “Star Trek : Deep Space Nine”). What Is The Status Of President Trump’s COVID-19 Case? Late last week, President Trump announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.  This Tuesday, he left the hospital and returned to the White House. And many questions still remain. Reporter Umair Irfan discusses the status of President Trump’s health, the experimental treatments he received and who else in the White House and in Congress may have been infected.  Talking About Black Holes And CRISPR With 2020 Nobel Prize Winners This week, a few researchers around the world received that legendary early-morning wake up call from Sweden, bearing word of the 2020 Nobel Prizes. This week, the prize in Medicine or Physiology went jointly to Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton, and Charles M. Rice “for the discovery of the Hepatitis C virus.” In Chemistry, Emmanuelle Charpentier of the Max Planck Institute and Jennifer Doudna of the University of California at Berkeley won the prize for their work on the technique known as CRISPR. In 2017, Doudna described the technique on Science Friday. In Physics, the award was split among different types of black hole research. One half went to mathematician Richard Penrose, “for the discovery that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity.” He described his work with physicist Stephen Hawking in a 2015 Science Friday interview. The other half of the physics prize was split between Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez for the discovery of one such supermassive black hole—”a supermassive compact object at the centre of our galaxy.” Doomscrolling? Here’s Non-COVID Science News You Might Have Missed   Among all the COVID-19 news of the past week, other stories have gotten less attention than they deserve—including a discussion of climate issues at the presidential debate a week ago. The 12 minutes the candidates spent on climate change and the policy surrounding it marks the first substantive discussion of climate at a presidential debate in years. Science journalist Annalee Newitz joins Ira to unpack the climate discussion, and other science news—including a gruesome ancient punishment, and research into the savviness of crows.   The Science Friday Book Club: Technology, Magic, And Afrofuturism  The Science Friday Book Club continues this week, this time reading another short story from the speculative fiction collection New Suns. African-American author Andrea Hairston’s story ‘Dumb House,’ is about a woman named Cinnamon who finds herself pestered by a pair of traveling salesmen, who hope to persuade her to upgrade her house into something smarter. This week, we talk about ‘Dumb House,’ plus its place in Afrofuturism—culture and storytelling that imagines futures with African-descended people and culture at the forefront.  SciFri producer Christie Taylor, Journal of Science Fiction managing editor Aisha Matthews, and speculative fiction author K. Tempest Bradford discuss trust and community in ‘Dumb House,’ the relationship between technology and magic, and other elements that contribute to the story’s Afrofuturist theme.

News: This weekend was Labor Day in the US, and Downtown Disney was very busy. The limitations on guests in the shopping district were upheld, but this lead to long, physically distant, lines in the parking lot before the security tents to get into the area. Disneyland’s social media accounts were keeping guests informed of parking limitations throughout the weekend. – https://www.micechat.com/269469-disneyland-update-and-the-winner-is/ and https://www.mouseplanet.com/12746/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_September_7__13_2020#news1 Handheld folding fans have appeared at the resort and just in time for the massive heat wave that has been happening in California. The building’s vertical construction seems to be going up at a rapid pace. At this rate, 2023 seems just around the corner! – https://www.micechat.com/269469-disneyland-update-and-the-winner-is/ New 65th Anniversary collection Funko POP! figures have appeared on for Amazon.com for sale. Peter Pan riding in a pirate ship, Minnie riding in a Dumbo vehicle, Mr. Toad riding in a Toad car, and a stand alone Mr. Toad with hypnotic eyes are available. Each figure runs $29.99, except for the stand alone Mr. Toad, which is $10.99. Newsome followed up by saying that there were still some details to work out, but as soon as they were at a point to comment, they would. – https://www.ocregister.com/2020/09/02/newsom-california-making-a-lot-of-progress-toward-reopening-theme-parks/ This Tuesday, Cast Members were spotted in front of Disneyland installing signage related to COVID-19 changes in the parks. The red level is the second most restrictive, but allows indoor restaurants, and movie theaters at 25%, and indoor shopping at 50%. This could mean that indoor shops and restaurants at Downtown Disney could be just around the corner. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2020/09/08/could-we-see-indoor-dining-resume-in-downtown-disney-soon-heres-what-we-know/ Discussion Topic: Platform: Disneyland Adventures – https://www.amazon.com/Disneyland-Adventures-Xbox-One/dp/B075YLGWDY/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Disneyland+adventures&qid=1599660243&sr=8-1 Infinity – https://www.amazon.com/Disney-Infinity-3-0-Starter-Pack-Xbox/dp/B00WJ0Z17Q/ref=sr_1_1?crid=269EGFSH29CFJ&dchild=1&keywords=disney+infinity&qid=1599660298&sprefix=disney+infin%2Caps%2C216&sr=8-1 Kingdom Hearts – https://www.amazon.com/Kingdom-Hearts-All-One-Package-PlayStation/dp/B084J45N4V/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1Y9SJZQW5AWS9&dchild=1&keywords=kingdom+hearts&qid=1599660317&sprefix=kingdom+%2Caps%2C201&sr=8-3 Lion King & Aladdin (NES) – https://www.amazon.com/Lion-King-Pc/dp/B00002SWBG/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=lion+king+nes&qid=1599660343&sr=8-1 and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00002STX3/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=aladdin+nes&qid=1599660361&sr=8-1 Epic Mickey – https://www.amazon.com/Disney-Epic-Mickey-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B002I0GEXM/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=epic+mickey&qid=1599660379&sr=8-1 Board: Villainous – https://www.amazon.com/Wonder-Forge-Disney-Villainous-Strategy/dp/B07DLGD9K6/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2ZZN6W0UH1DAS&dchild=1&keywords=villainous&qid=1599660411&sprefix=villain%2Caps%2C203&sr=8-1 Jungle Cruise – https://www.amazon.com/Ravensburger-Disney-Jungle-Cruise-Adventure/dp/B08412VYKZ/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=jungle+cruise&qid=1599660428&sr=8-2 Mobile: Heroes Battle Mode – https://lol.disney.com/games/disney-heroes-battle-mode Magic Kingdoms – https://www.disney-magic-kingdoms.com Emoji Blitz – https://lol.disney.com/games/disney-emoji-blitz Tides of War – https://lol.disney.com/games/pirates-of-the-caribbean-tides-of-war Appisodes – https://appsupport.disney.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037504052-All-Disney-Junior-Appisodes-have-been-retired Lego Star Wars – https://www.starwars.com/games-apps/lego-star-wars-battles-mobile Sorcerer’s Arena – https://www.sorcerersarena.com Non-Disney: SWGOH – https://www.ea.com/games/starwars/galaxy-of-heroes MSF – https://www.marvelstrikeforce.com/en Marvel Avengers – https://avengers.square-enix-games.com/en-us/

Ithaca has faced a string of armed robberis at local businesses, including one in Collegetown this week, and there have been two arrests. A Lansing man was arrested soon after a robbery last Sunday morning on Meadow Street. This Tuesday, Ithaca police arrested a 15-year-old juvenile for an armed robbery last Tuesday at the Quik Shoppe convenience store on Ithaca’s northside. In that incident, a subject in a ski mask brandished a handgun and demanded money from the store clerk just before 10pm on July 21st. The A Plus convenience store on Green Street downtown was robbed last Sunday morning as well, and the Hilton Garden Inn was robbed Saturday night by a subject with a similar description to the A Plus. Then the University Deli and Grocery on Eddy Street in Collegetown was robbed on Monday night, and again, that person had a similar description. Police haven’t said whether the 15-year-old arrested for the Quik Shoppe robbery is a suspect in the other robberies. Victims have described the robbers as a young black or dark skinned male, heavy set or average build. Police ask anyone with information about the cases to call IPD at 607-272-3245. I've decided to add a little something extra to your week during lock down by recording an extra 10 minute episode every Tuesday. Unlike the long form podcast on a Friday, this is a catch up with members of the low carb community. We will share recipe ideas, chat about how they are finding the lockdown and generally make sure we are both doing well. This Tuesday, I had a really great chat with an online friend of mine Suzie Edge. I've never met Suzie in person and yet I feel like I have as I have followed her on Twitter and listened to her on podcasts. Suzie is really knowledgable, honest and a really strong person who even though has had a really tough time during the lockdown is still kicking ass and is inspirational.

Wow! What a change 24 hours can bring. After MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said last week that he's '100 percent' certain that a 2020 season would happen, he flipped yesterday and said he was not '100 percent' certain. This brought ire and backlash from the players, and quite honestly, the owners and Manfred don't look good to the public in this situation, despite their leverage. This (Tuesday) morning, Manfred and MLBPA chief Tony Clark had a secret meeting and emerged with a 'framework' for both sides to move forward on negotiating terms. Initial reports state that the season would be around 60-70 games, players would receive their full pro-rated salaries (which is what the owners were denying all along), and there would be a greatly expanded playoff...going to 16 teams from the current 10. Originally, expanded playoffs were to include 14 teams. In return, the players would agree to not filing any grievances against the owners about their reduced salaries due to the limited number of games. Despite this great nugget of news that may bring us baseball at Oracle Park in July, it all stems on player safety and the hopes that the nation will not shut down again due to a second wave of the corona virus. We are already seeing many states spike in cases due to re-opening, and that is cause for concern. Also, these events have impacts on sports betting. You can find our sponsor's (Sports Betting Dime) betting section here, has the odds for the MLB season to be played went from -300 to -165 after Manfred's statement yesterday.  We also recap the seven players the Giants took in the draft, the Oracle Park bullpens are done, and sadly, Cy Young Award winner Mike McCormick passed away this week. @chadk21 @torturecast facebook.com/torturecast www.torturecast.com

It’s been termed “the Minnesota paradox.” The Twin Cities have some of the best standards of living in the country: high incomes, long life expectancies, a healthy population and access to a rich cultural scene. But the Twin Cities also have some of the most stark racial disparities. Home ownership, education levels, income and unemployment rates for black Minnesotans are among the worst in the country. Part One: When Minnesota Nice ... isn't Those disparities are getting a closer look in the aftermath of George Floyd’s killing. This Tuesday, we dove into the second part of our conversation about Minnesota grappling with the grim reality under the surface of Minnesota Nice. Guests: Mike Griffin is a Minneapolis organizer with Community Change Action. Taiyon Coleman is an associate professor of English literature at St. Catherine University. This Tuesday on Tea & Tattle, I’m joined by the bestselling author, Kate Eberlen, to discuss Kate’s new book, Only You, which is a joyous love story set in Rome, Blackpool and London. In Only You, Alf and Letty meet at an Italian language class in Rome, and they gradually fall in love over pasta, gelato, poetry and dance. Both Letty and Alf have secrets they’ve left behind in Britain, however, and when the past catches up with the present, Alf must prove to Letty that she is still the only person for him. Only You transported me to glorious, sun-soaked Italy as I read, and it’s the perfect escapist read for right now. I had such a fun time chatting to Kate about our mutual love for ballet and ballroom dancing, as well as how she started her career as a writer and why Italy inspires so much of her work. This Tuesday on Tea & Tattle, I’m joined by the author and editor Marina Kemp, to discuss Marina’s debut novel, Nightingale, which was also published under the title ‘Marguerite’ in America. I thought Nightingale was one of the best first novels I’ve read, with its beautiful, evocative prose and haunting story. Drawing on her own experience of the dynamics between patient and carer, Marina wrote the story of a young nurse, Marguerite, who leaves Paris to care for an elderly man, Jerome, who is coming near the end of his life at a large, remote house in the French countryside. Dealing with her own secrets and grief, Marguerite welcomes the solitude of her new position, but she gradually becomes acquainted with other members of the village: Suki, a muslim woman who feels ostracised within the small community, Henri, a farmer who is desperately trying to hide a secret of his own, and his increasingly suspicious wife, Brigitte. Nightingale is an exquisite story of love and loss, and I so enjoyed talking to Marina about the inspiration behind her book, as well as the realities of caregiving and why language, choice and dignity are such important themes in her book. This Tuesday on Tea & Tattle Podcast, I’m joined by the fabulous Lucy Worsley to discuss Lucy’s latest novel for young adults, The Austen Girls. Lucy Worsley is an historian, writer, television presenter and the Chief Curator of the Historic Royal Palaces, with her office situated at Hampton Court Palace. Lucy is the author of several bestselling books, including the captivating biography of Jane Austen, Jane Austen at Home. Her historical stories for children aged 11-14 are also hugely popular, and I loved The Austen Girls, which tells the story of Jane Austen’s favourite nieces, Anna and Fanny, and the difficult decisions they must make as they approach womanhood and look ahead to the prospect of balls and marriage proposals. Tasked by their Aunt Jane to be the heroines of their own lives, both Fanny and Anna must decide the kind of women they wish to become. I highly recommend The Austen Girls for anyone who is homeschooling during lockdown, as - as well as being a fun, gripping story that both children and adults can enjoy - The Austen Girls also gives a fascinating perspective on the domestic sphere of women in Georgian England. The novel, of course, also provides some excellent background to Jane Austen’s world, and it’s a lovely read for any Janeite. I had a fabulous time chatting to Lucy about her love for Jane Austen and how she came to write this novel about the Austen nieces. Read the show notes: teaandtattlepodcast.com/home/135 Get in touch!
