“The Kat Edmonson Show!” Machine Dazzle! Flying blind!Vocalist, Kat Edmonson RETURNS to the show! With all the familiarity of talking to an old friend, we dive into bucket list goals of the past and future, finding inspiration in the unlikeliest of places, and a show where even the best soundcheck can lead to surprises at downbeat! FEATURED RELEASE:Kat Edmonson“Dreamers Do” (2020) Getting to Know: Kat!Kat Edmonson is an award-winning songwriter and singer "with an equal foothold in jazz, cabaret and vintage cosmopolitanism pop" (The New York Times). She has been featured on Austin City Limits, Tiny Desk Concerts, A Prairie Home Companion, and The Late Show with David Letterman.Raised on the music and film of the early-to-mid-twentieth century, Kat is a rare artist who embodies the spirit of the past while remaining resolutely au courant. She performs original songs and familair classics in her live show, interweaving humorous anecdotes, philosophical musings, and her love of film with disarming candor and vulnerability. Her longtime band members' keen and sensitive accompaniment allows Kat to freely veer off-script as she's often inclined to do.Kat is equally comfortable on the stage, in the recording studio, on a movie set, or recording The Kat Edmonson Show from the intimacy of her own home. She has played major stages across the United States, Europe, and Asia from Carnegie Hall to the Montreux Jazz Festival to the Blue Note in Japan. In 2016, she appeared in Woody Allen's Cafe Society as a 1930s jazz singer and was highlighted on the official soundtrack performing her version of “Mountain Greenery.” Her experience in Allen's film inspired the artist to study the craft of acting. She subsequently spent two years in conservatory at The William Esper Studio in New York City. Watch the interview on our YouTube channel here!

Toni Robison-May was raised on Star Trek and Masterpiece Theater in Oklahoma, which as a queer Black girl, gave her the solid sense of being an outsider that feeds mosts artists. She took that and her love of creativity to get her BFA in Theatre, then to NY. After graduating from the William Esper Studio, she started making her own short films. That led her to AFI's screenwriting program in LA. She's now living the multi-hyphenate life of acting, writing features, pilots and poetry, and directing. She does all of that while cuddling her cat and her dog, and pushing for the changes in storytelling that we need on screen and on stage - more inclusion, more queerness, more people of the global majority. Cliff Moylan hails from Boston, Massachusetts. Born to an Irish father from County Clare and an Irish-American mother from County Detroit. He spent his first twenty two years between Back Bay, Scituate, Dorchester, Plymouth, Falmouth, Hyannis, Lynn and the Fenway. Though he credits all his former haunts as being formative, it is Lower Mills, St. Gregory's Parish, that he holds closest to his heart, and where he spent the most time. With it's abandoned Baker Chocolate Factory repurposed as a venue for keg parties and it's Guiness Book renowned trolley that traverses through Cedar Grove Cemetery used for rooftop joy rides, Lower Mills was a place Cliff could develop his imagination with all the other hooligan Tom Sawyers'. At twenty two, after a year of waiting tables at Cafe Florentine in The North End and saving money, Cliff moved to New York with a heart full of dreams and a U-Haul full of crap. No sooner did he unpack, did he read in the Village Voice that somebody made a movie set in South Boston. Halfway through Good Will Hunting at the Angelika Film Center, Cliff said to himself, “It's possible.” Years went by, restaurant work continued and acting training remained a priority when Cliff got a call to be featured background, playing Charlotte's doorman in Sex in the City. “That's me! That's me! Did you see me? I delivered the dog!” Cliff's friends and family were proud though his grandmother was never told the actual name of the show. This role put wind in his sails to try things out West where he lived in Hollywood for fours years. Aside from eating crappy pizza nothing really happened for Cliff so back to New York he went, but he didn't quit. Two years after his return, at thirty four years old, Cliff finally started speaking on television. His debut being made on the second season of HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The subsequent ten years brought more film and television work and more training. He's been directed by Martin Scorsese, Stephen Soderbergh, Jodie Foster, Peter Berg and Steve Zaillian among others. He's swapped dialogue with estemed actors like Jon Voight, John Turturro, Laura Linney, JK Simmons, Liev Schreiber and Giancarlo Esposito. His training includes conservatory programs at The Atlantic Theater Company Acting School and The William Esper Studio. Cliff has also been the student of Kathleen Turner, Bob Krakower and most extensively Chazz Palminteri, of A Bronx Tale fame. Cliff's signature role to date has been his portrayal of real life hero, Sergeant John MacLellan in the Mark Wahlberg starring/ Peter Berg directed Patriot's Day. “Welcome to Watertown motherf#%*ker!”, he can be seen shouting over a fence while firing his service automatic in the portrayal of the famous shootout with The Boston Marathon Bombers. Cliff and John MacLellan are still friends today. Cliff's most recent role and only other portrayal of a Bostonian is in the yet to be released, Ray Donovan full length feature film. When not auditioning Cliff is walking his dog, Hagler, named after the great middleweight champ, writing his memoir about his Lower Mills adolescence, training in Muay Thai and working on his recovery with over nine years sober. Cliff lives in The Lower East Side. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/otcpod1/support

She's an outstanding actress, writer, and director that has co-starred with celebs like Jennifer Lopez on Shades of Blue (NBC), Julian McMahon on FBI Most Wanted (CBS), and Peter Coyote on Blue Bloods (CBS). Kerri's acting career was quite a detour from her original plan of medical school. She caught the acting bug in a monologue class in college at West Virginia University and the rest is history, eventually studying acting in the William Esper Studio. Kerri also gets very real about what it is like to be a woman in the TV/film industry. She is currently working on her first feature film: Awaken Her, a female-driven, surreal, psychological thriller set in the plastic surgery world. Included in this interview: The event that led her to ditch medicine and pursue acting Getting bitten by the "acting bug" The early days of her acting career How she learned to get comfortable in her own skin Difference between public speaking and a monologue (Even actors get afraid of public speaking too!) The importance of having your mental game in check, no matter your profession Being on-camera vs being live on-stage The inspiration behind Awaken Her, her first feature film The pressure to comply with beauty standards as an actress Evolution of beauty standards through the years Rhinoplasty and how she first started feeling self-conscious about her appearance The traumatic experience that made her question her self-worth Insecurities regarding body image and how people in media have perpetuated that How acting, meditation, and motherhood have helped her break free from her past physical insecurities How insecurities that start from childhood still impact you later in life Is acceptance of our body image really getting better in the modern world? The shame and stigma associated with plastic surgery The need for diversity in the film industry Uncomfortable situations women face in the film industry Her experience with the "casting couch" More about her upcoming feature film, Awaken Her Kerri is raising equity for Awaken Her, be a part of this promising project and invest here: https://wefunder.com/awakenher Check out Kerri's website (and see clips of her in action) here: https://www.kerrilynnmiller.com/ Follow Keri on social media to see more of her acting clips and moments: https://www.instagram.com/kerrilynnmiller/ Follow me too: www.Instagram.com/theprev www.Instagram/come/wakeupcallthepodcast www.Facebook.com/wakeupcallthepodcast www.Twitter.com/wakeupcallpod If you think you're cool enough to be a guest on Wake Up Call the Podcast, DM me and tell me why. An idealist medical student with a serious Elvis obsession and a determination to perfect his rat-to-rat brain transfer discovers his beloved professor and mentor is secretly a mad scientist who embarks on a murderous spree to get 13 human brains for his own terrifying experiment. Written and Produced by Richard Gasparian and Robin Nuyen Filmed entirely in 1987, Housesitter...The Night They Saved Siegfried’s Brain sat unfinished for thirty-two years. Now, with post-sound from Skywalker Sound and final picture from Paramount Pictures color department, it is at last completed. Combining 1980’s horror and 1950’s sci-fi, it is the story of Andy, an idealist medical student with a serious Elvis obsession, who is determination to perfect his rat-to-rat brain transfer to “help mankind and change the face of modern science”. After his final experiment fails and blows up, Andy loses his chance to travel abroad and study at the prestigious Reinhardt Institute. With his future in doubt, and with no place to live, his future looks bleak. Little does Andy know that his beloved professor and mentor, Doc Crosby, is actually a mad scientist who has been murdering people and stealing their brains for experiments in his makeshift “black and white” laboratory. When Doc realizes that his own brains so severely damaged from experimenting on himself, and that he will be dead in a matter of hours without a successful brain transfer, he hatches a scheme to acquire the thirteen human brains needed for his “brain pyramid”. Knowing that Andy is homeless and that college kids can’t resist having big parties, Doc invites Andy to housesit while he goes away on “business”. After he frees his deranged lab assistant from the insane asylum, and with his house now full of healthy unsuspecting college kids, Doc’s trap is set. When the party begins, so does the deadly game of cat and mouse. Will Andy save his friends from the scalpel of a madman, or will Doc succeed in his murderous plot to save his own life by completing the first even human brain transference procedure? From Robin Nuyen, and written and produced by Richard Gasparian and Robin Nuyen, Housesitter : The Night They Saved Siegfried’s Brain stars Holly Kaplan (‘’American Crime Story’’, Shocker), Robert Small (Flight of the Navigator, “Seaquest 2032”), and Stephen James Carver (“Star Trek : The Next Generation”, “Star Trek : Deep Space Nine”). This event is part of the Student Speaker Series sponsored by The Institute of World Politics. About the lecture: The classical definition of acting is ‘living truthfully under imaginary circumstances.' Contrary to the common perception that acting is ‘pretending,' the working process of actors (as well as of directors and writers) is an exploratory journey to revealing the truth of every moment, the sum of which must build a narrative that connects to and transforms the audience. This webinar lecture will highlight several functional aspects of an actor's craft that are also pertinent to the national security practitioner and policymaker: training to truly listen, attaching action to words, using the ‘what if' to create and to foresee possible scenarios, choreographing the sequence of actions and meanings to achieve a scenario objective with maximum impact, and more. It is the hope of the presenter that some of these elements of an actor's craft can add value to the existing toolbox of the national security professionals who aim to ‘live and operate truthfully under real circumstances' in which they deal with real domestic and international ‘actors.' More importantly, the lecture will discuss the critical element achieved through the study of acting without which all pursuits are bound to be less than fully effective: knowing oneself. About the speaker: Sebastian is currently Creative & Executive Director of Dacian Wolf Productions, a stage and film development, and production company, where he actively writes, directs, and produces. A former Lecturing Professor of Acting and Movement at Pace University, NYC, he holds a BFA in Dance & Theater, an MBA in Accounting, a Certificate of Completion of the Two-Year Professional Acting Program at the William Esper Studio, NYC, and a candidate for the MA in Statecraft and National Security Affairs at IWP. Since arriving in the United States from his native Bucharest, Romania in 1982, Sebastian has toured with the internationally acclaimed Pilobolus Dance Theatre and has taught movement, acting, and choreography workshops in Romania, Russia, Korea, Japan, Italy, Chile, Argentina, as well as at many US universities. His current interests revolve around projects dealing with disinformation and narrative warfare. For more information, please visit www.sebastiantudores.com

Paula Pizzi-Black | Actress, WriterPaula Pizzi-Black is an actress, writer, translator and sometimes director. She was born and raised in Buenos Aires where she began in children’s theatre and quickly learned if you fake it you are toast. So she studied acting with Lito Cruz, milked her long hair in shampoo commercials, modeled all kinds of jeans, and played bratty teens in episodics and in a rather questionable soap. After college, she came to the US, fell in love with NYC and never looked back. And the training continued. First at Lee Strasberg’s Theatre Institute, then at the Actors Conservatory and last but not least at William Esper Studio. She became a member of Circle Rep Lab (which is now New Circle Theatre Company) and LAByrinth (formerly Latino Actors Base) which have become her artistic family. It was at LAByrinth where she started directing and writing and where she now has the honor of leading the Education Department. Paula has been part of some amazing new plays and artistic projects during which she met and collaborated with incredible artists and better yet, humans. She’s also an ensemble member of Barefoot Theatre Company and the Playwrights Directors Unit at the Actors Studio (P.D.U.)

And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. ... No artist is pleased. [There is] no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others.

My next guest is an old college friend of mine who has pursued her childhood dreams of becoming an actor. Nina Mehta is an actor, writer, and creative dreamer who turned her passion into her profession. As an ensemble member of the renowned theater and film production company, The Collective, she has appeared in numerous media productions, including being a regular cast member of The Amy Schumer Show. On this episode, we discuss her unlikely journey from being an environmental studies major to hustling her way into theater by following her dreams. We also discuss the challenges of being an actor as a minority, why artistry has always been in her family blood, and what it takes to break into a highly competitive industry. All this and more on today’s episode. Now, That’s Unusual. About Nina Mehta Growing up in northern New Jersey, Nina Mehta loved the creative arts. She was actively involved in theatre in high school, but stepped away from acting in college to pursue Environmental Studies at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. Mehta returned to New York after graduation and worked a ‘regular job,’ but the voice in her head kept calling her back to the performing arts. Mehta studied acting professionally under Terry Knickerbocker at the William Esper Studio from 2003-2005. She completed the two-year program in the evenings while working for Time Inc. With the economic downturn in 2008, she was laid off from her marketing job at Time – and serendipitously connected with The Collective NY, a newly formed performance ensemble comprised of other Esper Studio graduates. She began attending the group’s Collective Monday workshops, and became an official member of the troupe in March of 2009. Mehta’s first film, Finding Priya a Prom Date, won several short film awards on the 2008-2009 festival circuit, and she also appeared in The Call Center, an official pick at the 2009 New York Television Festival. She has played several roles on the sketch comedy show Inside Amy Schumer, and most recently appeared on Girls. Mehta continues to work with The Collective NY, serving as a writer, director, producer, and member of the permanent ensemble. Key Interview Takeaways The beauty of acting is in the storytelling. Mehta fell in love with drama watching television as a child because it opened up her imagination, and she found it creatively stimulating in that it could both act as a mirror of her own experience and introduce her to new people and experiences. Listen to that nagging little voice in your head. Mehta got away from theatre to pursue Environmental Studies in college, but once she had gotten comfortable in the working world, the nagging little voice in her head started calling her back – and she is grateful to have been relaxed enough to hear it! The more ‘of color’ you are, the tougher you have it in the world of theatre, film and television. Mehta recognizes that she has been lucky to have been cast in a number diverse roles. Acting requires a thick skin. You will hear ‘no’ more than ‘yes,’ so it is necessary to simply do your job well in the audition – and then let it go once you leave the room. 98% of casting involves elements that are out of your control. To prepare for an audition, read the script – a lot – with someone you trust and get feedback regarding how you come across. Mehta is trained in the Meisner technique, which suggests that how you say the lines on the page may change based on what your scene partner gives you in the moment. ‘Having the other person break up with you sometimes is helpful.’ Mehta had continued to work her day job while she studied acting, but being laid off in 2008 gave her the chance to pursue theatre full-time. This led to her involvement with The Collective and her friendship with a number of talented people, including Amy Schumer. Graduates of the William Esper Studio receive the parting advice to ‘create your own work’ as a way of taking control over one’s career,
