Fertility issues are on the rise. The latest numbers are showing 1 in 5 to 6 women between 18 and 35 struggling with fertility and sperm health on a steady decline. Several factors are driving this change, from increased exposure to environmental toxins to chronic stress levels that are at an all-time high. When our bodies are under stress, they shift into survival mode and that's a tough place to conceive from. For those of us with thyroid issues, there's another layer to consider - the thyroid has a direct correlation with your fertility. Thyroid imbalances can cause many issues, from getting pregnant to having difficulty sustaining a pregnancy, even for those who may not have a problem with conceiving.Every couple is unique and a holistic approach to fertility requires an individualized approach. Today's guest, naturopathic doctor and endocrinologist Dr. Aumatma Simmons joins me to share her insights into holistic fertility from over ten years of specialization. In this conversation, Dr. Aumatma and I discuss her journey into fertility specialization, the complex factors affecting fertility, why comprehensive testing is essential, why both partners must be a part of the fertility preparation process, advanced testing methods she recommends, how thyroid imbalances impact fertility, management of thyroid conditions during pregnancy, and more. In our last podcast episode #165, we discussed adrenal fatigue. When the adrenals are taxed then the thyroid is directly affected.  SOME COMMON CAUSES OF THYROID IMBALANCE Low levels of iodine, and other nutritional deficiencies, as well as certain drugs can cause the conversion of T4 (thyroxin), the lesser active thyroid hormone, into T3 (triiodothyronine), the necessary active form, to become blocked. T3 is about three times more potent than T4. Clinical symptoms, the entire endocrine system, and nutrition all need to be evaluated. It is possible to have a subclinical condition, which is difficult to detect. Nutrient deficiencies, medications, including birth control pills, and diet all play a role in an inability for thyroid hormones to convert to their active states. Pesticides, fluoride, mercury, and lead are among the strong factors. Certain foods can be contributing factors to the alteration of T4, to T3 conversion. Soy is a food that is associated with blocking this conversion and reduces the ability of the thyroid to function. The artificial sweeteners sucralose (Splenda) and aspartame also create weaknesses in organs such as the liver that diminish nutrients needed by the thyroid. Internal stressors, such as inflammation, also contribute to thyroid disorders. If the adrenal glands are imbalanced, there may be an imbalance in Cortisol levels. T3 only gets into the cells if there's enough Cortisol. Hyperthyroidism, or an overactive thyroid, can cause symptoms such as nervousness, anxiety, rapid heart rate, sweating, fatigue, heat intolerance, hyperactivity, increased appetite, eye disorders, tremors, and weight loss. For this reason, the high quality lab Diagnos-Techs includes Gliadin testing (a derivative of gluten), in the saliva/adrenal test. Most natural practitioners carry these take-home tests in their offices... Click Here or Click the link below for more details! https://naturallyrecoveringautism.com/166

In this week's episode of ReInvent Healthcare, we tackle frequently asked questions and misconceptions people have about the thyroid so that we can make sure that our clients are well-informed. This way, we can help people optimize their health by getting to the root cause then guide them through proper diet, exercise, and lifestyle choices. IN THIS EPISODE: Food for Thyroid Don't be scared of brassicas like kale, broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage in the diet, since they do wonders for the body. These have only been a concern when nutrients were isolated.  With soy, there is a misconception that it is bad for you. It's only a problem for people with thyroid function if they're low in iodine, because the goitrogens in the soy can interfere with the uptake of the iodine which is needed for making thyroid. Foods to stay away from are gluten, dairy, and sugar.  Can people get off Thyroid Medication? It is not possible to get off medication if people have had their thyroids removed. There is also a chance that they are on the wrong medication and that is causing further harm. For those who still have their thyroid, it is very possible to get off medication through balancing blood sugar, practicing mindfulness, and getting proper sleep and movement. We as practitioners have to be able to tell our clients to get the proper tests done, make the right lifestyle choices, and improve their diet so that people do not fall through the cracks. Hormones that Interact with the Thyroid Insulin - Studies show that TSH levels can correlate with insulin. Thyroid dysfunction can also impact insulin and can lead to diabetes. Cortisol - Adrenals affect high and low levels of cortisol and the conversion of T4 to T3. It can also affect receptors and inflammation in the system. Sex Hormones - Birth control or hormone replacement therapy at menopause will cause an increase in thyroid binding globulin, which effectively causes too much bound thyroid hormones and not enough free. People on testosterone therapy make less thyroid binding globulin, which causes more free thyroid hormones which can lead to symptoms of  hyperthyroidism.   RESOURCES: Get our Free Thyroid Resource Guide to support you in managing clients with Thyroid issues here. At the same time, there are also those who get diagnosed with hypothyroidism and get medications and improved lab numbers, but still struggle with hypothyroid signs and symptoms.  These people continue to suffer because they are told they can't have thyroid problems because their labs are normal. The Correlation Between People on Hypothyroidism Medication and Risk Of Cancer Hypothyroid clients who have “sick cells” are given T4.  In this situation, the metabolism of the sick cells can increase, causing the precancerous or cancerous cells to replicate and lead to cancer.    RESOURCES: More about Dr. Eric Balcavage: Dr. Balcavage's Clinic - Rejuvagen Follow Dr. Eric Balcavage's Instagram page Get your copy of The Thyroid Debacle here Visit Dr Eric Balcavage's Rejuvagan YouTube and Rejuvagan Facebook pages for more details Get our FREE Thyroid Resources Guide with resources to support you in managing clients with Thyroid issues here Get our FREE Guide to Taking a Detailed Health History that gets you to root causes with ease  Access Additional Resources for Practitioners Ready to Improve Clinical Outcomes through our Nutritional Endocrinology Practitioner Training Improve Your Clinical Skills with our recorded 1-day Thyroid Adrenal Workshop here  Learn from our Client Thyroid Program packed with strategies for restoring optimal thyroid function here

In this week's episode, we talk about an aspect of thyroid health that is frequently overlooked, and causes people to suffer as a result. Despite showing classic signs and symptoms, people are told they don't have thyroid problems and that there is nothing wrong with their thyroid. These people fall through the cracks and suffer from thyroid imbalances that can be managed with the proper diet, lifestyle strategies and nutrients.   IN THIS EPISODE: What Is Thyroid Receptor ResistanceIt is an overlooked problem with the thyroid that affects thyroid hormones. Clients oftentimes have low thyroid function despite having normal blood levels and show signs of inflammation, which can be caused by elevation in Cytokines, Leukotrienes, and Interleukins. How Toxins Can Affect The Thyroid Toxins are found everywhere - in the food we eat, the products we use on our skin, and in everyday items we see and use everyday.  These toxins can bind to thyroid receptors, cause damage to cells, and decrease thyroid hormone activity. Why Testing and Retesting Are ImportantIt is important to retest clients, using symptom surveys and labs, every few months so that you can monitor symptoms and their progress to better improve and tweak their recommendations depending on their current state.    RESOURCES: Get our Free Guide with resources to support you in managing clients with Thyroid issues here. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions:  K: Hi Dr Cabral, I have been taking the apple cider vinegar drink you recommend in the fatlossity program twice a day. I dilute it about 16 oz of water. I have noticed that my gums are little swollen and they bleed when I brush and floss since adding this drink into my daily routine. Do you have any advice on how I can adapt this drink so that it doesn’t cause this reaction? Helena: Hi Dr. Cabral, in one of the previous shows you mentioned that OCD could be caused by a hormone/chemical imbalance in your body. What are your thoughts on the causes of hypochondria? Do you think that the root cause is also due to chemical imbalances in the body? I’ve been suffering for such a long time and would love to find a way to deal with it once and for all. For me, it’s triggered mostly by reading about it. For example, I had HPV virus, and although it’s been cleared (had it checked twice now), I still think that they might have missed something and when I see an article about someone having it or dying from it, I’m anxious for days and seek reassurance from people around me and Dr. Google (which actually scares me even more). I would love to hear your thoughts about what might be causing it. Thanks in advance for your help. Helena Anne-Marie: Hi! I have recently been diagnosed with stickler syndrome which is a connective tissue disorder. I have high myopia, mild sensorineural hearing loss, swelling in my wrist and ankle joints. I have also had my gall bladder removed almost 20 years ago, had Graves' disease and now have Hashimoto's and am currently breastfeeding my third child (my older two have also been diagnosed with stickler and eldest with autism as well.) We have been following a plant based diet for over a year now and seen a good improvement in overall health. My children are currently doing the CBO protocol. When I've finished breastfeeding, what detoxes am I able to do without a gall bladder? Is there any way of strengthening the connective tissue in the body for both me and my kids to minimise the likelihood of precocious arthritis? In these circumstances how much is osteoarthritis luck of the genetic lottery and how much can be minimised by lifestyle factors? Thanks! Patty:Hi doctor Cabral! Loving your show! A quick: question: what are your tips on getting through a busy day on little to no sleep? Those days when you just can’t take a nap and have to power through. Thank you in advance for your answer Yvonne: Dr Esselstyn recommends no oil in the diet - says it causes cardiovascular disease. Your thoughts? I find it hard to eliminate as some food just isn't satisfying without some avocado or olive oil. Marie: Hi Doc! What is your verdict on sweat belts around the midsection to increase overall sweat and increase the loss of water weight around the midsection? Also: when it comes to exercise and saunas in general, is there a certain time frame within which you should shower to avoid toxins that were sweated out to be reabsorbed? The main focus of his practice is thyroid and Auto Immune conditions.  Through working with his patients he developed the Kajiki Protocol for determining thyroid and autoimmune issues with a particular concentration on Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. He offers his patients answers and protocols to improve thyroid function and overall health. With his roots in chiropractic-biophysics, Dr. Kajiki was busy helping patients in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California with their spinal structural corrective care when his wife became ill with what at first appeared to be Epstein Barr. As he watched his wife’s health deteriorate under the care of several doctors, Dr. Kajiki began a relentless search for answers to why his healthy wife could become so ill and yet no one seemed to know how to care for her. After more than two years of tests, medication, B12 shots, and finally hospitalization, it was her husband and not her medical provider who came to her rescue. After countless hours of study, consultation with colleagues, and testing, Dr. Kajiki diagnosed his wife with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, an autoimmune condition that attacks the thyroid. He spent the next several months treating her autoimmune condition through natural supplements, lifestyle modifications, and dietary changes. She is now symptom free and doesn’t take any thyroid medication.
