Liver biochemical abnormalities are seen in 15-76% of patients with untreated thyrotoxicosis - that is, those not taking antithyroid medication. This liver dysfunction is typically related to direct injury to the liver, comorbid heart failure, and associated autoimmune conditions. There's no one best diet for any health condition but there are certain similarities across diets that are beneficial for those with thyroid and autoimmune thyroid conditions. For my patients with Graves' and Hashimoto's, I typically recommend an AIP diet as a starting point, eventually reintroducing foods which don't trigger a negative response.
