Join hosts Dr. Abby Eblen from Nashville Fertility Center, Dr. Susan Hudson from Texas Fertility Center, and Dr. Carrie Bedient from the Fertility Center of Las Vegas as they dive into the role of three key hormones in pregnancy: thyroid hormone, prolactin, and insulin. In this episode, we discuss the thyroid's function and why it's problematic if it works too fast or slow. We explore common thyroid tests, how thyroid issues can impact pregnancy, and their connection to prolactin levels. We also break down prolactin's role, what affects its levels. We discuss the difference between a micro- and macro-adenoma and treatment for both. Additionally, we touch on galactorrhea, a condition causing unexpected breast discharge, and the importance of discussing it with your doctor. We then shift to insulin and its link to diabetes. We explain type 1 diabetes (an autoimmune condition) and type 2 diabetes (where insulin doesn't work effectively), along with the importance of hemoglobin A1C testing. Maintaining proper blood sugar levels before pregnancy is crucial, as poorly controlled diabetes can lead to birth defects, pregnancy complications, and delivery risks. Tune in for expert insights on optimizing hormonal health for pregnancy. This episode was brought to you from ReceptivaDx and RMA of New York.

And how Dr. Prather's goal is to actually fix the thyroid so that it no longer needs treatment.--How 80% of autoimmune disease starts in the gut and why the gut plays a role for thyroid issues caused by autoimmune problems. For more information on this topic or to schedule a consultation please visit us at http://WhatIsHashimotos.com Why does Hashimoto's cause fatigue? Because, it's your thyroid, that's why. So, your thyroid is... It's funny, I was involved with a group years ago that was in the early stages of trying to figure out fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. My mentor is... If you've watched many of my videos, is Dr. Datis Kharrazian. He's the guy who figured out that most of these chronic fatigue patients probably had a thyroid problem, but he was the one who took it the extra some said. "I think it's autoimmune thyroid disease." He was met with much skepticism, and I was one of them. But in retrospect, it's like, "Duh, it's your thyroid. It controls your energy." It's like, "If your thyroid goes hypothyroid, and it's not doing its job, you're going to be fatigued." And, it seems so obvious once the brain started to process that. The basics of it is pretty simple. Your cells have these organs in them, little organelles inside of the cells, and they're called mitochondria. I'm sure a lot of you have heard of them. Some of you have probably even take mitochondrial support and CoQ10 and all this type of stuff. But that's where the energy is made, in those little energy factories in your cell. It's pretty basic. They need proper oxygen. They need proper blood sugar. They need a lack of inflammation, a lack of oxidative stress. In other words, oxidative stress kind of grinds down your cells, and it kind of rusts them out. Inflammation disturbs all function in a cell. It needs all of those things. And, it needs proper T3. T3 is the end product of the thyroid hormone factory in your thyroid which makes this thyroid hormone called T4. And then, that's broken down into T3, and that's the active form. And when that hooks in to that cell and then it goes in your cell and it gets into those little mitochondria, and this is where for those of you chemistry geeks, this is where the Krebs acid cycle, citric acid cycle is also part of this, where people are taking CoQ10 and all that other stuff. Unfortunately a lot of them end up getting their thyroid glands removed or ablated because they aren't aware of the options they have. Thyroid triggers vary from person to person, so there isn't a standard ‘protocol' for all patients. Proper testing is needed to appropriately assess your clients. For natural thyroid remedies there is Motherwort to help with the cardiovascular system and hyperthyroidism, Bugleweed for antithyroid that can help with palpitations, and Lemon Balm to help patients with sleep issues. Tracey was diagnosed as hypothyroid after her second child was born, but Hashimoto's wasn't diagnosed until 3 years later when she went to a naturopath. Her fatigue improved significantly in 2 months on LDN. Last year she was diagnosed with RA, and is still working on finding the correct LDN dose. She's on hydroxychloroquine, various supplements, and diet as well. It all helped greatly with Hashimoto's, and it basically changed her daily life, so she's hoping that will also change her RA symptoms as well. She encourages people to try LDN; the worst thing that may happen is three months later you find it didn't work for you. Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)

As you've heard me say, if we're not getting rid of toxins, they're going to store in certain areas of our body—like our fat. As I've told my patients for years, if you're struggling with weight loss, it could be an over burdened body by toxins. Think of it this way—your body won't release fat because it's protecting itself from the toxins. It's so necessary to clear out the filters of our body… including our liver. Part 4 of 4 parts on Metabolism and breaking through the noise of BS. We'er here to share the pieces that will empower you to shift your health from the inside OUT. You'll never catch up to the weight loss game by cutting calories alone. Of course you can lose weight by cutting calories, however, show me someone who truly can live under caloric restriction for the majority of their life. Shortcuts and hacks are quite frankly not so innovative ways to try to cheat the laws of nature. What if I were to tell you the most effective way to weight loss is already in your possession? You may think just another gimmick, right? Well, in this episode Dr. Peter Slane, DC, ND and exercise physiologist summarizes the keys to changing metabolism. We introduce the basics and open the toolbox for your body transformation if you're ready to actually change for the better. You'll takeaway the steps and strategies to transforming your body with the tools to make it a lifestyle. Our goal is LASTING CHANGE for the better. You have what it takes to thrive, but you've not been told the truth about your physiology and weight gain. You'll have a better understanding of how to naturally improve your insulin sensitivity, how to move toxins out of your fat cells safely over time. You'll learn about Persistent Organic Poisons (POP's) and where they come from and the damage they cause as well as how and why the thyroid will always be stressed under the scenarios described. I know you'll enjoy this if you're on a health journey and you're seeking to feel better, fix a health problem, lose some weight, stop inflammation, prevent a problem or heal a current challenge such as hypothyroidism or hashimotos. Lastly, this is a self funded podcast, so please share this information. I'm forever grateful. Dr. Wade

For more information on this topic or to schedule a consultation please visit us at http://WhatIsHashimotos.com What causes the swings between hyper and hypothyroid symptoms. We have a long presentation online called the nobs series on Hashimotos you should watch that. That would probably be the best answer, but the semi short answer is, is so many things. Okay. So there's 40 different triggers. So if you have, so here it is, you have autoimmune thyroid disease. All right. And there's various stages to it. There's a relatively stable Hashi patient where they just don't have a lot of thyroid symptoms, their antibodies aren't very reactive in, they don't go up and down like that. Then you get into the reactive, it's actually called the reactive hypo reactive Hashimoto's patient. And when you get into that patient, that's the patient that we're talking about right now that goes up and down. Okay. The the you'll go up and down based on not, not particularly the antibodies, they, they can sometimes be a good check. You, you check antibodies to determine if you have Hashimoto's and I've already done videos to say the number is not the issue. I can have people who have Hashimoto's thyroid proxies, enzymes, which is the enzyme you measure of 50, and they'll be up and down and all over the place and hypo hyper. And, and then I could have somebody comes in and have Hashimoto's of 20,000 and, and they're, and they're in the, and they're stable to, to a, to a large degree. So that's, that's another whole subject, but the point is, is it, that's not the measure of, of going up and down. So the, it it's BA it is just based on your triggers, really it's based on how unstable your thyroid is. So what makes it unstable? What makes it unstable is we all have different microbiomes. We all have different immune systems. We have different stress responses, and we all have different tissue resilience, see whose tissues have proper sugar and proper blood sugar and proper oxygen whose inflammation, inflammatory processes are low. All of these play into how susceptible a patient is to getting an immune response. Let's use gluten as an example, cuz gluten is the number one trigger probably for, for autoimmune thyroid disease. Iodine could be another one taking iodine, maybe you taking an iodine, multivitamin. It has iodine in it for autoimmune thyroid disease. That's one of the top. That's one of the top triggers for it. So you may be going along and everything's fine. And, and and, and then and then you expose yourself to one of these and then the immune system flares out to make a complex immune problem. Simple, the immune system, flares up inflammation, inflammation causes your antibodies to flare up. http://powerhealthtalk.com http://drmartinrutherford.com Martin P. Functional Medicine & Where's the Beef? [17:57] Lisa says: I have a double question for the healthy rebellion! My teenage daughter really doesn't like much meat (I think it's a texture thing she will eat sloppy joes for some reason like a champ as well as fish we catch in the lake) and I'm having a hard time upping her intake. Is there a decent protein powder I can have her add to her smoothly bowls she's obsessed with while I keep trying the soups and broths you mentioned to another emailer? The health of our kids is of great concern to me looking at their food choices at school and now that she's mobile and can go buy her own junk. I'd also like to find a functional medicine provider in MN for us but it's daunting whos for real or who's a fake? My extreme distrust of the main stream medical community as a result of the Vid and my father dying of a massive heart attach after being told he was Soooo Healthy has made it difficult to trust anyone. Thanks Lisa 2. Weight Loss While On Hyperthyroid Medication [26:26] Douglas says: Hi Robb, I am a 56 yr old male recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. My doctor has placed me on methimazole 2.5 mg and my numbers look great. The problem is that since being on the medication my weight has gone from 215 to 240 and I am 6'2" tall. I have read many articles stating that it is hard if not impossible to lose weight while on Methimazole. My PA states it is not the medication, but my thyroid that is piling on the pounds. Do you have any recommendations on what I can do start losing weight? I loved your cleared hot podcast and I look forward to hearing from you. Have a great day. 3. Trouble sleeping with delaying breakfast or eating low carb [29:55] Flannery says: Hi, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on why I have trouble sleeping if I don't eat first thing in the morning or if I decrease the carbs in my diet. I'm often not hungry in the morning, but if I skip breakfast or move my first meal to more than about an hour from when I wake up (usually between 6:30 -7:30) I will have significant trouble falling/staying asleep that night. The same thing happens when I shift my diet to include more fat and less carbohydrate as my primary fuel source. I'm a fairly competent food tracker, so I believe I am keeping my calories and protein the same as I make these changes. I've also tried (per your inspiration) increasing my salt intake by about 2g sodium/day (above just salting food to taste) when I delay my first meal or decrease carbs, but it has not improved my sleep. I don't have a huge need to delay breakfast or shift my diet, but some days higher fat/lower carb just sounds better and I'd like to be able to be more flexible with my diet without losing sleep. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks, Flannery Background: -I'm a 33 y.o. active woman (I have a pretty physical job as a farmer and work out 3-4x weekly either rock climbing or barbell strength training). -I'm fairly lean with a body comp I'm happy with (5 '8'' and 125lbs). -I don't think I'm under-eating calories or protein. When I track I seem to maintain on about 2000-2500 kcal and I love protein, typically averaging about 110-140g/daily mostly from meat and greek yogurt. Usually my diet breaks down to about 25% protein, 45% carbs, 30% fat. -I've been eating my own version of paleo/W.A.Price-ish for about 10 years (I include rice and dairy, I don't eat nuts and seeds.)
