Host Scott is joined by special returning guest Adam Thornton (Films That Time Forgot) to talk about the now semi-forgotten Arnie flick "Eraser."Over the course of the episode Scott and Adam discuss what makes this the last Classic Arnie Era film, why this was a hit at the time but seems to faded from memory now and debate whether "Eraser" had franchise potential. Plus, we get into how director Chuck Russell deals with the action in his first large scale action flick (his background being horror and comedy), theorise why Vanessa Williams didn't get more action roles and extol the virtues of James Caan as the villain. In the heart of rural France stands a village frozen in time—not by choice, but by horror. On June 10th, 1944, Nazi SS troops entered the quiet commune of Oradour-sur-Glane and committed one of World War II's most brutal massacres. 642 people—men, women, and children—were murdered in a single afternoon. But here's what makes it different from countless other wartime atrocities: the village was never rebuilt. It stands today exactly as it was left in 1944, a preserved monument to suffering where rusted cars still sit in driveways, bullet holes still mark the walls, and some say the victims never truly left. This is Oradour-sur-Glane—where the screams still echo through streets that will never know life again.   #hauntedplaces #france #worldwar2 #massacre #oradoursurglane #truestory #hauntedvillage #paranormal #ghoststories #horror #destinationterror #eeriecast   EXPLORE MORE SPINE-CHILLING CONTENT: Freaky Folklore: https://www.eeriecast.com/podcasts/freaky-folklore Carman's Crypt (Original Horror): https://www.carman-carrion.com/ Deadly Intent (True Crime): https://www.carman-carrion.com/ Destination Terror: https://www.eeriecast.com/podcasts/destination-terror ________________________________________ SUPPORT THE SHOW: Patreon (Ad-Free + Bonus Content): https://www.patreon.com/c/CarmanCarrion Buy Me a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/carmancarrion ________________________________________ CONNECT WITH CARMAN: Website: https://www.carman-carrion.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@CarmanCarrion Twitter/X: https://x.com/CarmanCarrion Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/carmancarrion/ ________________________________________ SUBSCRIBE & REVIEW: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0uiX155WEJnN7QVRfo3aQY iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/freaky-folklore/id1550361184 Your support helps bring you more terrifying tales. ________________________________________ DISCOVER MORE HORROR: http://eeriecast.com/ https://www.carman-carrion.com/ ________________________________________ THE CRYPT SHOP: https://the-crypt-shop-2.myshopify.com/ ________________________________________ MUSIC CREDITS: Music and sound effects provided by: CO.AG, Myuu, Jinglepunks, Epidemic Sound, Kevin MacLeod, Dark Music, and Soundstripe.   Learn more about your ad choices. In 1968, a group of Luton apprentices started creating a rock opera. Chris Stokes and his band Genesis (not that Genesis) conceived a concept album with baroque piano arrangements and experimental passages, then packed it away and got on with their day jobs. For over 50 years, this album and other material spanning a decade, existed only on deteriorating tape and acetates. Chris recorded with various lineups from the mid-1960s including The Mantis Set, Genesis, and Sunday Painter, mostly at home on a Revox tape machine; self-financed, largely improvised, never properly released. Then Dimorphodons from Hand of Glory Records bought a battered Hohner keyboard on eBay for £10, heard a sample track, and discovered a treasure trove of lost British psychedelia. Chris and Dimorphodons share highlights from this incredible archive, with the bulk of these tracks heard in public for the first time. Bloody New Year (1987) was chosen by co-host Dave as the final movie pick in the Year of the Stitch-Up, and what a note to end on. The film was directed by Norman J. Warren, a cult British filmmaker best known for low-budget horror and exploitation fare like Satan's Slave and Inseminoid. By the late 1980s, Warren was working with extremely limited resources, and Bloody New Year was produced on a modest budget aimed squarely at the VHS and late-night rental market. The production leaned heavily on atmosphere, strange concepts, and practical effects rather than polish, embracing the scrappy DIY ethos of British horror in the post-slasher boom era.Shot largely on location along the Welsh coast, the film made creative use of abandoned buildings and seaside settings to create an eerie, off-kilter mood without the expense of large sets. Like many British genre films of the time, it struggled with distribution, receiving little theatrical exposure before finding its audience on home video. While largely ignored on release, Bloody New Year has since gained a cult reputation among horror fans who enjoy obscure, unconventional oddities from the VHS era. As the closing chapter of the Year of the Stitch-Up, it's an appropriately strange, divisive, and deeply VHS-coded selection — the kind of movie that feels discovered rather than released. If you enjoy the show and would like to support us, we have a Patreon here.Referral links also help out the show if you were going to sign up:NordVPNNordPassTrailer Guy Plot SummaryFrom a quiet coastal town… to an island where time itself has gone horribly wrong.A group of unsuspecting teenagers arrive at a deserted hotel expecting nothing more than a getaway — but what they find is something far more twisted. As reality fractures, clocks stop making sense, and unseen forces close in, the line between past, present, and pure nightmare begins to dissolve.Bloody New Year — where the party never ends… and time is out to get you.Fun FactsBloody New Year was also released in some territories under the alternate title “Time Bomb”, which caused confusion among VHS collectors. The film became far more well-known on home video than in cinemas, thriving during the late-80s VHS horror boom. Many fans mistakenly associate the movie with the “Video Nasties” era, even though it narrowly missed official banning in the UK.The eerie fairground setting was created using abandoned seaside attractions, adding an unintentional layer of decay to the visuals.Several special effects were achieved using camera tricks and editing rather than gore, due to budget limitations. The movie's synth-heavy soundtrack is frequently cited by fans as one of its most memorable elements.Bloody New Year gained renewed attention in the 2000s thanks to cult horror forums and late-night TV screenings.Today, the film is often discussed alongside other late-80s British horror oddities like Uncle Sam and The Outing as a cult curiosity.thevhsstrikesback@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback

“When I photograph, what I'm really doing is seeking answers to things.”  -- Wynn Bullock “If you want to be a better photographer, stand in front of more interesting stuff.”  -- Jim Richardson   In this episode, Antonio and Ward reflect on photography's unique role in preserving memories and stories. They discuss the importance of visual media literacy, highlighting how critical it is to go beyond just taking photos—to truly “read” images and understand the narratives they capture. Antonio shares his interest in teaching these skills, noting an upcoming workshop designed to deepen understanding in this area. They also touch on how photography serves as a bridge to the past, preserving moments that can evoke powerful emotions or insights upon rediscovery. Through examples and personal reflections, Antonio and Ward examine how images can be more than visual records—they're a way to keep memories alive, capture personal history, and connect us to our own stories and those of others.   Subscribe to our Substack Newsletter Help out the show by buying us a coffee! Byrd, Tom and Lux are back to take a look at the 1982 semi-obscurity The House Where Evil Dwells. This haunted house shocker is a co-production made with assistance from the legendary Toei studios. It was directed by Kevin Connor (The Land that Time Forgot) and stars Edward Albert, Susan George, and the incomparable Doug McClure. Based on an unpublished novel of the same name, it tells the story of an American family that moves to Japan and the vengeful ghosts that inhabit their house (and bodies). There's killer crabs, zen monks, Sentai on the TV, and more in this oddity that blends American and Japanese ghost movie tropes. Relax and enjoy the conversation!

Hey, Cryptic Cuties, let's take a trip together to some abandoned places of the world. Tales of wealthy towns that prospered and grew but were ultimately left or destroyed. Sometimes we don't even really know, leaving more of an air of mystery. Kelsey takes us to India, and the ruins of Hampi, including impressive structures like the Hemakuta Hill Temple and the Lotus Mahal. Sounds as good as it looks, honestly. On the other side of the world, we head with Alanna back to Pirate territory, and the Jamaican town known as Port Royal. This city had quite a mecca of gambling, rum, women, privateers and a pirate named Jack (and a Captain named Morgan!) Until it met it's dreadful end. And it's other end as they sang, "never shall we die", we hope. There's a small stretch of Oakland's shoreline unlike any place else. Nestled between the restaurants of Jack London Square and the modern apartment blocks of Brooklyn Basin sits 5th Avenue Marina. This collection of rusty warehouses, eclectic studios, and surreal art installations recalls a bygone era, when crafty Bohemians dwelled amongst decaying shipyards. Schultz, a man who bought a chunk of this area in 1979, calls it “the neighborhood time forgot.” Although developers have attempted numerous times to dislodge the scrappy community at 5th Avenue Marina, these efforts have been stubbornly blocked, most notably in 2017 when residents formed a nonprofit called SHADE (Shadetree Historical Artisan Development Engine) and purchased the property formerly owned by Schultz. This episode traces the long history of the 5th Avenue Marina, from its days as a World War I shipbuilding facility up through its transformation into an unusual compound sometimes referred to as “Oakland's Riviera.” Our tour guide for this voyage is the legendary Schultz, who is still a feisty storyteller at 88 years old and, like Rihanna or Cher, prefers to go by a mononym.
