Allister Thompson returns to Derry and Toms as we hurtle back to 1918 and brave the cold waters of the Atlantic to take a look at The Land That Time Forgot by Edgar Rice Burroughs, subject of Michael Moorcock's sole filmed movie script (along with James Cawthron of course). Expect discussions about mysterious island tropes, personal propensities to cannibalism, dodgy theories of race and C Thomas Howell! Allister's latest release (at time of posting this at least) is Apocalypse Man by Khan Tengri and it includes a nice Moorcockian track too.
Richard McGuire's 2014 graphic novel Here takes place in one location—the corner of a living room in a house in what is probably Perth Amboy, New Jersey—over the course of billions of years, from 300,000,500,000 B.C. to the far-off year 22,175. In between, we see slivers of events both dramatic and mundane, catching glimpses of ordinary lives and extraordinary creatures, and watch as small moments echo and comment on each other across the decades and centuries. It's a fascinating work that makes use of the comics medium in original and inventive ways, a seemingly unfilmable book that's somehow being adapted into a major motion picture starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, directed by Robert Zemeckis, for release later this year. But is that enough to score a ticket to that Land That Time Forgot known as ... The Comics Canon? My guest tonight is Pete Breidahl. Pete is a modern-day "wannabe" Indiana Jones type character whose treated much of his adult life as an adventure. In 2008 Pete was a soldier serving as a “Peacekeeper” on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Island chain, when on a long-range patrol deep into its impenetrable jungles, Pete met a terrified young man that had never met a white man before. But he wasn't scared by the soldiers, he feared the creature he had encountered that morning while hunting. He described a classic “Bigfoot” type creature, and after a quick google search back at base Pete soon realized that Bigfoot and “Giant” sightings on Guadalcanal were very common indeed. Pete never forgot this encounter and returned in search of the creatures as soon as he had left the military.Pete not only shares his encounters and research here, but also the tragic realities of life in the developing world and the harsh truth that these creatures, which he believes wholeheartedly exist, will be gone before they are ever documented. The Solomon Islands, also known as the “Land That Time Forgot” hold many secrets and myths, and this book hopes to explore these as scientifically as possible without using the word "Squatchie."Sasquatch Odyssey YouTube ChannelVisit Our WebsiteParanormal World Productions Merchandise Store Pete's WebsiteCheck Out The Shows Sponsor Vitalis Sleep And Support Our Sponsorshttps://vitalissleep.comUse Promo Code ODYSSEY20 at check out for 20% Off Your Entire Order!Sasquatch Odyssey Podcast YouTube Channelhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCrIzUVxqM4a98whCBYBvgwSupport The Showhttps://www.patreon.com/paranormalworldproductionsAll The Socials And Stuff/Contact Brianhttps://linktr.ee/ParanormalWorldProductionsbrian@paranormalworldproductions.com Send Brian A Voicemail Or Tell Your Storyhttps://www.speakpipe.com/SasquatchOdysseyPodcastFollow The Show On Instagram https://www.instagram.com/sasquatchodyssey/Follow The Show On TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@sasquatchodysseypodcast?_t=8XRHQxPMFYo&_r=1

The Land That Time Forgot by Edgar Rice Burroughs audiobook. The Land That Time Forgot is a science fiction novel, the first of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Caspak trilogy. His working title for the story was "The Lost U-Boat." Starting out as a harrowing wartime sea adventure, the story ultimately develops into that of a fantastical lost world.
Today we're reviewing The Land That Time Forgot (1974), the story of a WWI submarine crew who gets stranded on a mysterious island populated by dinosaurs and prehistoric people. It takes itself seriously enough to wax philosophical about war and human nature, but it was also featured on Mystery Science Theatre 3000, so its profundity might have been undercut somewhat by its bad dinosaur puppets. After an eye-catching performance in the teen coming-of-age epic The Outsiders (1983), ex-child rodeo star C. Thomas Howell was one a promising young actor in the mid-1980s.When Tommy isn't acting, you'll more than likely find Howell out on the ranch with his horses, Trick and Wesley. As an accomplished team-roper, you'll see that his passion for rodeo runs deep as he's been competing since he was four-years old! Tommy also enjoys a good game of golf, playing his guitar and writing songs and spending as much time as possible on the ranch and being with his family. Christopher Thomas Howell was born in Los Angeles to Candice (Webb) and Chris Howell (a professional bull rider turned stuntman). He started working in the film industry at the age of seven. In 1981, he was cast as Tyler in Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). Shortly thereafter, he nabbed the lead in Francis Ford Coppola's classic The Outsiders (1983). Earmarked as an up-and-coming actor, his career soon skyrocketed with roles in films including the comedy Grandview, U.S.A. (1984), alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, and the violent Cold War invasion drama Red Dawn (1984). His career was not helped by the controversial racial comedy Soul Man (1986), which was not well-received. However, he did meet and fall in love with his co-star from that movie, Rae Dawn Chong, whom he later married. He has notched up in excess of 90 feature film appearances. including starring roles in Side Out (1990), Gettysburg (1993), Baby Face Nelson (1996), Fatal Affair (1998), Asylum Days (2001) and Hoboken Hollow (2006).He played unpredictable Officer Bill "Dewey" Dudek in the TNT drama series Southland (2009) and as the sadistic serial killer "The Reaper" on CBS's Criminal Minds (2005). More recent television appearances include The Glades (2010) (A&E) and Torchwood (2006) (Starz Channel). He appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) (Sony). A budding film director, he has directed a number of films, including The Big Fall (1997), Pure Danger (1996), The Land That Time Forgot (2009), and The Day the Earth Stopped (2008).

For years, it was believed that Chinese civilization was born solely on and around the Yellow River in Northeastern China in the 3rd and 2nd Millennia BC. But with the discovery of the Sanxingdui (lit. "three star mound") site in Southwest China in 1927 as well as subsequent excavations up to the present day, this notion is being challenged and rewritten. The treasures unearthed reveal a complex and sophisticated society that's as old as those that popped up along the Yellow River at the exact same time. Who were the mysterious people who left such stunning bronze and jade artifacts behind, which are culturally and artistically distinct from those of the Yellow River Chinese? What was their society like? Come with me as we take a look at this forgotten kingdom and what its discovery means for Chinese history. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/historylovescompany/support

Episode 140: Chuck Prophet is a lifer who at 57 says he's just getting the hang of it - it being crafty, intelligent songs that feel good even when they're downers, songs that rock and twang in balanced proportions. Since going solo after a decade with the psych garage band Green On Red, Prophet has given us a vast body of work that sits easily on the shelf next to Rockpile, Elvis Costello or Tom Petty. Now he's releasing a reflective, sardonic and political album called The Land That Time Forgot. From retooling his solo sound to his long partnership with spouse Stephanie Finch, there was a lot to talk about.
Chuck Prophet spins into The Marinade. Chuck's twelfth solo record, the excellent The Land That Time Forgot is set for release on August 21, 2020. His career spans all the way back to his days with neo-psychedelic band Green on Red. During the intervening years he has established himself as one of America's great storytellers.
