Gabe and Tina Watson embarked on what was supposed to be a dream honeymoon to Australia, choosing the stunning Great Barrier Reef as their adventure destination. Gabe, an avid scuba diver, eagerly dove into the crystal-clear waters to explore the underwater wonders. However, this adventure turned into a nightmare when, in a shocking turn of events, only Gabe resurfaced. Tina tragically never made it back to the surface. The initial belief was an equipment malfunction, but suspicions quickly arose, leading to questions about whether this was a tragic accident or a case of foul play. The mystery surrounding Tina's untimely death in such a serene yet treacherous environment sparked a complex investigation, blurring the lines between a tragic accident and possible murder.

Episode 10 - A young couple is on their honeymoon in Australia. While scuba diving just 11 days after their wedding, a life is cut short. On October 22, 2003, newlyweds Gabe and Tina Watson signed up for a diving excursion in the Coral Sea, located off the coast of Australia. Tina was a novice diver who qualified for the trip after 11 dives, while Gabe was an expert rescue diver with 55 dives under his belt. The couple prepped their gear and planned their decent, then made their way down to the shipwrecked SS Yongala, a 350=foot ship that sunk off the Coral Sea in 2001, It is not clear what happened next, but within the first hour of diving, Tina drowned. Based on numerous accounts from eyewitnesses and Gabe himself, it is not clear if any wrongdoing occurred. Be sure to tune in and decide for yourself if this was an accident, or something more sinister.Listen to new episodes every Thursday wherever you get your podcasts! On March 23rd, 1911, the luxury passenger ship, the SS Yongala started its 99th voyage from Mackay to Cairns. But much like Betty White and Prince Phillip before her, the SS Yongala didn't live to see its 100th voyage. Not long after setting sail from Mackay, a tropical storm warning forced all ships to return to port. All ships heeded the message...except the SS Yongala, which never arrived in Cairns and was assumed to have sunk. It would take 47 years before a recreational diver named Bill would find the shipwreck, almost perfectly preserved off the coast of Ayr, Queensland. The ship didn't make headlines again until 2003 when an American couple took a honeymoon diving trip to the Yongala and only one of them survived. Sportscaster Erin Andrews was living her dream, traveling all over the country to cover college football games. It was tough to be a woman in a male-dominated industry, but she made a name for herself as a sideline reporter. Then one day, her world changed. A friend called to say that there was naked footage of her on the internet. Erin laughed. She told him that couldn't be true. But he was right. Erin had been filmed without her knowledge, and the footage was going viral. Then Brandi tells us about Tina and Gabe Watson, whose two-week honeymoon to Australia ended in tragedy. The couple took diving lessons prior to their trip, but Tina had never gone diving in the ocean. Gabe was more experienced, but not by much. On October 22, 2003, the couple dove to view the wrecked SS Yongala. Tina didn't survive the dive. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. When a newly married couple travel to Australia for their honeymoon, they expect to have the time of their lives. While scuba diving, though, something terrible would happen. The husband would surface without his wife. His version of events would characterize her death as an accident. She had dislodged his mask and after taking care of that he discovered that she was sinking down below him and he just couldn't save her so he went up to get help. Others, such as her father and a close friend, would challenge his story and the husband would be arrested amid suspicions of foul play. Did Gabe Watson murder his wife? Or was Tina's drowning death merely an accident?Generation Why has even more episodes. Find them here: www.patreon.com/generationwhyListen ad free with Wondery+. October 22nd: Tina Watson Killed (2003) There are some cases where it's difficult to discern if there is foul play or an accident. Today's story is one of those frustrating cases. On October 22nd 2003 a woman died while on her honeymoon and, to this day, there are far too many questions about whether it was an accident, or a cold blooded murder. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Tina_Watson, https://abcnews.go.com/US/honeymoon-killer-gabe-watson-breaks-silence-details-wifes/story?id=15819106, https://www.chillingcrimes.com/blogs/news/tina-watson, https://toobamirza00.medium.com/injustice-for-tina-watson-53a6014e504b
Christina Mae Watson went on her honeymoon with her new husband Gabe to scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. She had a heart condition but she got her diving certificate and joined her husband in smaller dives. This would be her first time diving in the open ocean. Two minutes after she got in the water with Gabe, Gabe came to the surface and asked for help retrieving Tina, she had lost consciousness and sank to the bottom of the ocean. She did not survive. Gabe was convicted of manslaughter because he had failed to rescue her however some people believe he actually was the one that caused her air supply to be cut off in the first place. The Death of Tina Watson. Or was Tina's drowning death merely an accident? Further reading: http://www.michaelmcfadyenscuba.info/viewpage.php?page_id=844
Dead just one week into her Australian honeymoon, Tina Watson's body lay a hundred feet below the ocean's surface at the foot of the Great Barrier Reef. Across the globe, three days into a secret Aruban getaway with an older gentleman she met online, Robyn Gardner vanished from the same Aruban town as Natalee Holloway just five years earlier. Why did Robyn Gardner's travel companion purchase a $1.5 million insurance policy and make himself the beneficiary? Did Tina Watson's husband really insist she increase her life insurance coverage to $1 million before the wedding? When both suspects' stories are deemed suspicious, what does the evidence ultimately reveal?Motive and opportunity gave the media full opportunity to cast these suspects as murderers. But what actually happened? And what is it about this pair of bizarre cases that remains brutally chilling to this day? FATAL SUNSE6T: VANISHED BEAUTY-Mark Yoshimoto Nemkoff
