I was talking with someone recently about Glasnevin in Dublin in the 1950s, when milk was delivered then by a farmer from a churn on his cart, residents in the new houses coming out to have jugs filled. Milk supply in Kilcullen wasn't as advanced then. We collected it in lidded tin cans with skinny wire handles. They cut welts into our small children's hands by the time we brought them home from Tom Molloy's milking shed. Produced by Brian Byrne. Photo: Irish Farmers Journal.

Jarrett has a background in both the public and private sectors. Masterpiece Cakeshop v Colorado Civil Rights Commission is one of the most high-profile cases before the Supreme Court this term. We interviewed Colorado Solicitor General Fred Yarger, who represented Colorado during oral argument. The first part of the interview focuses on Masterpiece itself. In 2012, a gay couple asked a Colorado baker named Jack Phillips to make them a customized wedding cake. Phillips refused on the grounds that baking the cake would violate his religious objections to gay marriage, and the couple filed a complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission. The Commission determined that Phillips had violated a provision of the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act, which prohibits places of public accommodation from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation. The main question presented in Masterpiece is whether compelling Phillips to bake a cake under Colorado’s Anti-Discrimination Act violates the Free Speech or Free Exercise Clauses of the First Amendment. Oral arguments were held before the Supreme Court on December 5, 2017 and Court observers expect a decision in June. The second part of the interview focuses on Mr. Yarger’s work in the Solicitor General’s office and his career after law school. This is Part Three of our three-part series on Title IX sexual misconduct proceedings. There is a debate across college campuses about how universities should handle sexual misconduct cases. In Part One, we looked at the proceedings generally, and in Part Two we specifically looked at the standard of evidence: what has to be proved before a person can be sanctioned. In Part Three, we’re looking at other policies utilized in Title IX proceedings: whether students should be entitled to a support person, what level of cross examination should be allowed, and what should be the definition of sexual misconduct? We discuss these questions with Professor Daniel Hemel, Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Chicago, Professor Katherine K. Baker, Distinguished Professor of Law at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Professor Laura Kipnis of Northwestern University School of Communication, and Professor Brian Leiter, Karl N. Llewellyn Professor of Jurisprudence, and Director of the Center for Law, Philosophy, and Human Values at the University of Chicago. This is Part Two of our three-part series discussing Title IX, and sexual misconduct proceedings on university campuses. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recently attracted controversy by rescinding the Obama administration’s guidance for how universities should handle sexual misconduct cases on their campuses. We interviewed four professors separately to consider the evidence standard in college proceedings. Many campus proceedings use the “preponderance of the evidence” standard. Is this the right standard? What are its benefits? What are its drawbacks? We discuss these questions with Professor Daniel Hemel, Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Chicago, Professor Katherine K. Baker, Distinguished Professor of Law at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Professor Laura Kipnis of Northwestern University School of Communication, and Professor Brian Leiter, Karl N. Llewellyn Professor of Jurisprudence, and Director of the Center for Law, Philosophy, and Human Values at the University of Chicago. This is Part One of our three-part series discussing Title IX, and sexual misconduct proceedings on university campuses. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recently attracted controversy by rescinding the Obama administration’s guidance for how universities should handle sexual misconduct cases on their campuses. How do these proceedings function? What did the Obama administration require? Does the system work or is there a superior alternative? We discuss these questions and more with Professor Daniel Hemel, Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Chicago, Professor Saul Levmore, William B. Graham Distinguished Service Professor of Law at the University of Chicago, Professor Laura Kipnis of Northwestern University School of Communication, and Professor Nancy Chi Cantalupo, Assistant Professor of Law at Barry University. In the wake of hate group rallies and protests of controversial speakers on college campuses, how far does the right to free speech extend? What are its limits? Should the federal government and universities be empowered to place further restrictions on speech, or would further curtailments do more harm than good? Join us as we discuss with Professor Geoffrey Stone, Edward H. Levi Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago, and Professor Genevieve Lakier, Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Chicago. The City of Chicago, in addition to other state and local governments, sued the Federal Government after Attorney General Jeff Sessions attempted to withhold certain federal funds from "sanctuary cities." Sessions' move is intended to prevent these cities from stymieing federal immigration enforcement. Chicago and others claim withholding federal funds violates the Constitution and threatens police anti-crime efforts. Join us as we discuss the nature of these issues with Professor Aziz Huq, Frank and Bernice J. Greenberg Professor of Law at the University of Chicago Law School, and Professor John Eastman, Henry Salvatori Professor of Law & Community Service at Chapman University Fowler School of Law. On October 15th, 2017, Colin Kaepernick filed a non-injury grievance with the NFL, alleging that the NFL teams have colluded to blackball him from the League because of his recent political protests. What is the substance of Kaepernick's grievance claim, how likely is it to succeed, and what other legal avenues might be available to him? Join us as we examine these issues with Professor Randall Schmidt from the University of Chicago Law School, and Professor Michael Leroy from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Deep breaths. Nine months, 45 games, untold amount of stress. It all comes down to this. One game that will shape the future of Bolton Wanderers football club. It's only a short podcast this week. There isn't actually all that much to talk about. But what Dan, Tom Molloy and Down the Manny Road Tom did discuss, Sunday's pivotal game against Peterbrough United, is the most important match ever discussed on the pod. The Lion of Vienna Suite Podcast returns this week with episode 60 and, spoilers, there's yet another Bolton Wanderers victory to discuss. So listen to Dan as he's joined by Tom Molloy and Tom Wilson in this week's show. After briefly talking about Summer Slam, the lads dive into the Whites' latest victory, a 2-1 home win against Fleetwood Town with goals from Gary Madine and Josh Vela. The two Toms were in attendance so they give quality insight into how the game went and which players performed well, and which didn't. After that the trio discussed the possibility of any of Jay Spearing, Josh Vela, Kaiyne Woolery or Dorian Dervite (we can only hope) leaving before the transfer window shuts, and which positions Wanderers still need reinforcements in. I'm sure we can all guess which. Finally the lads briefly preview the Trotters' weekend away trip to Charlton Athletic and next week's pathetic EFL Trophy match against Everton's reserves. With just one pod until the 50th show extravaganza, Jonny makes his debut as #LOVpod host and does a fantastic job after overcoming some early technical difficulties, courtesy of Rob. They're joined by Tom 1 (Tom Molloy) and Tom 2 (Tom Wilson) and surprisingly only one moment of Tom-related confusion arises. The first rather short section (as none of us went to the game) is dominated by discussion of the Leeds United match. The main talking points are about Lennon's post-match comments about Wellington Silva and Kaiyne Woolery. Also the lads touch, once again, on the fact that Bolton Wanderers have gone almost a year without winning away. Talk moves onto the High Court case and the impending takeover, which will hopefully be announced by the time this podcast is released so we can all finally stop talking about it. The third segment is dedicated to the Ipswich Town match. The lads talk about whether we deserved to win the game, Zach Clough's dip in form, Rob Holding's excellence and Stephen Dobbie (obviously). A short Preston preview follows with the lads picking their ideal lineups and giving their score predictions. This swiftly moves onto a special ‘Loan Watch' segment led by Tom 1, before the podcast is brought to an end on a Bulgarian bombshell. Learn more about your ad choices. A word of warning that this episode is also knitted together by some special musical intros - because Dan couldn't find our regular intros - so apologies in advance for the weird music... It's a pre-season extravaganza, it's a bumper five-man show, it's the return of special guest, Bolton News chief football writer, Mr. Marc Iles. And it's bloody long, but also bloody fantatsic. It's so long in fact, that we've had to split the show into two parts, the first of which is available for listening now, with the scond coming on Wednesday. Host Chris is joined by Marc, stand in Tech Wizard Rob, the maverick Liam O'Meara and, making his debut, U21 correspondent Tom Molloy. The first lengthy segment of Part I was discussing everything of note from the last two friendlies of pre-season, against Port Vale and Charlton Athletic. Talk of Gary Madine, Filip Twardzik, Derik Osede, Tim Ream, Andy Kellett, Josh Vela, Zach Clough and many more was in abundance. Next up was a round up of all the news that's occured over the past week. Starting witht the soon to be announced triple signing of Lawrie Wilson, Stephen Dobbie and Emile Heskey. Next up was the potential signing of Italian right back Francesco Pisano, acompanied by the denial of any interest in fellow contryman Massimo Coda. Rob Hall's departure was discussed before briefly touching on the new away kit. But my words don't do it justice, make sure you listen to the first half of this facinating podcast.
