Christina's journey with cannabis is anything but ordinary. Growing up in Washington DC and initially shying away from the plant due to severe reactions, she never imagined it would play a pivotal role in her life. Yet, as she stepped into the cannabis business world, she rediscovered cannabis through a lens of wellness and mindfulness. Together, we unravel how understanding dosages and product sources transformed her perspective and how staying true to one's mission can guide intentional and meaningful cannabis use. The ever-evolving concept of wellness takes center stage as we explore its intersection with the cannabis industry. Drawing from my experiences with Conscious Capitalism and the founding of Rooted Therapeutics, we reflect on how business can indeed be a force for good. We also spotlight the efforts of Standard Wellness in Maryland, as we discuss the importance of empathy, open-minded parenting, and how personal definitions of wellness can shift over time amidst commercial pitfalls. Cannabis is more than just a plant; it's a tool for creativity and stress relief, especially within Black and Latino communities facing historic challenges. Christina and I delve into how changing the narrative can promote participation and self-expression in these communities. We also tackle leadership challenges, particularly the balancing act between personal wellness and organizational demands. From making tough decisions to maintaining community connections, we highlight the necessity of intentional wellness efforts, supportive networks, and the ongoing journey of achieving balance in a demanding world. Guest Bio: Christina Betancourt Johnson is the founder and chief executive officer of Standard Wellness Maryland (SWM), the first African American and Latina majority-owned vertically integrated cannabis company in the United States, and the first vertically integrated social equity licensee to launch in Maryland. Christina brings more than 15 years of executive leadership to the cannabis industry and holds leadership roles on the U.S. Cannabis Council and the National Hispanic Cannabis Council's Board of Directors. In Maryland, she serves as Vice Chair of The Maryland Wholesale Cannabis Trade Association (CANMD) and was recently appointed by Governor Wes Moore to the Advisory Board on Medical and Adult-Use Cannabis. Keeping a food diary can help identify patterns.Common Triggers: Emotional eating can be triggered by various emotions, not just stress. Jolene mentions that sadness, boredom, or loneliness can also lead to emotional eating. Skipping meals as a form of emotional avoidance can result in later binge eating.Difference from Other Eating Disorders: Jolene distinguishes emotional eating from disorders like binge eating and secret eating, noting that emotional eating is often situational, while the other disorders involve regular, uncontrollable eating behaviors.Jolene's Personal Story: Jolene shares her own struggles with emotional eating and how she overcame it through self-reflection and professional help.Dealing with Emotional Eating: Jolene emphasizes the importance of awareness and finding alternative ways to cope with emotions, such as journaling, talking to friends, or engaging in physical activity and the STOP process she recommends.Jolene shares her contact information:Website: https://holistichealthmadesimple.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/holistichealthmadesimple/Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/holistic-health-made-simple/id1531121084Follow the EnvisionAir Podcast:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theenvisionairpodcast/ AND https://www.instagram.com/nicole_ng_yuen/Don't forget to subscribe, rate, and leave a 5*review! "Feeling good starts with food. When you eat in a way that nourishes your body, you don't experience cravings and you don't feel hungry, restricted, or deprived. You feel satisfied and energized. You begin to crave the food that makes you feel good. As you begin to feel better from the inside, your mind becomes clearer. You start to feel hope, and that feeling of hope opens up all kinds of possibilities for your health and your life." - Cara Clark Joining me today is renowned nutritionist and wellness educator, Cara Clark. From advising A-list celebrities to guiding Olympic athletes, Cara has helped her clients feel better in their bodies by moving away from “dieting” and instead understanding the connection between what we eat and how we feel. In this episode, we dive into various topics such as limiting information consumption, regulating blood sugar, navigating indulgences (while maintaining self-awareness), understanding disordered eating, embracing movement that resonates with you, and much more. ------------------------------- Links Discussed in This Episode Order a Copy of Minimalist Moms: Living and Parenting with Simplicity Mental Health Awareness Month Can't Stop Talking About: Castor Oil Compress Connect with Cara: Instagram Website Enjoy this Podcast?
