Phil and Josh return for E219 of the GSP to discuss two outstanding results: the photo finish at Kansas in Cup and Lando Norris winning his first F1 race at Miami. On the NASCAR side, Larson and Buescher door slam each other to the line with Yung Money taking the victory. Somehow, Kansas has become one of the better racetracks on the circuit. For the Trucks, Corey Heim continues to show why Toyota has so much invested in him with his second win of 2024. Norris held off his buddy Fish Lips and Charl Eclair for his maiden F1 win after a timely VSC and solid pace gave the McLaren track position. Norris held FL off on a restart and never looked back while Ferrari messed themselves up and Lewis Hamilton battled for a sixth place finish. Logan Sargeant got yeeted by Kevin Magnussen, who was on a mission to hit everything on or at the Miami Dolphins parking lot. The GSP Roundup covers F1 Academy, Smoke winning in a Top Alcohol Dragster and almost winning a hooligan race at IRP, MotoGP/Moto2, IMSA, WEC, Formula E, WRC and Indy NXT before the guys get back and preview the IMS Road Course race for IndyCar and make their picks. Phil and Josh attempt to go through the throwbacks that were actually shown (not many at all) for the Darlington tripleheader while previewing and making picks for each race prior to Josh's Sim Segment and Show Close.
Rex and JP talk the NCAA tournament, the slippery slope of roadster love, EV records, documentaries, give you NHRA race reports and highlight the new radial record. Joe C Maynard discusses his path to early success in Top Alcohol Dragster. It's a truly fun episode.
Pull up to the starting line with us as we chat with Angelle Sampey, the dynamo of the drag strip who's sending shockwaves through the racing world. This week's episode captures her passion and tenacity, zooming from her homespun Louisiana beginnings to the adrenaline-packed challenges of the upcoming 2024 NHRA racing season. With eyes set on the prize and her heart anchored in her roots, Angelle recounts the twist of fate that brought her and her neighbor-turned-sponsor Billy Lawson together, united by their love for speed and critters. She also shares the exhilarating leap from two wheels to four, inspired by the NHRA legend Antron Brown, and the fierce determination that drove her to pilot an A-Fuel Dragster. As the engines cool, we shift gears to the importance of family and the shared joy of racing. It's more than a pursuit of victory; it's about the bonds that form trackside and the traditions that fuel our spirits, like the savory delight of Louisiana's crawfish season. Angelle opens up about the thrill of potentially testing for Antron Brown Motorsports and the importance of readiness and funding in the racing world. Through her eyes, we glimpse the personal milestones, such as a child's first tooth, and understand how social media bridges the gap, bringing the experience to fans everywhere with the help of a talented family photographer. Before we cross the finish line, buckle up as we take a quick detour to share the latest from Motor Trend TV, dropping hints about the shows that have gearheads talking. Then, it's all about the drive as Don Armstrong shares his take on the 2024 Mazda3 – a car that may have tech quirks, but delivers on the promise of a sporty experience. We compare it to its rivals and muse on future design wishes. Phil and Josh return for episode Travis Pastrana of the GSP to talk about the major news of Tony Stewart taking over his wife Leah Pruett's Top Fuel ride because they are going to start a family. For Smoke, what are the expectations after he finished second in Top Alcohol Dragster points and Leah finished third in Top Fuel in 2023? Who else can compare to Tony regarding this massive career move? IndyCar continues to stub their toes with the hybrid system being delayed till after the Indianapolis 500. Also, Honda came out and threatened to leave the series after 32 years if costs aren't brought down and a third manufacturer comes in to lighten the supply load. The guys go over the constant losses IndyCar seems to have while they have the best racing product in major US motorsports and why this is a long time trend. If Honda leaves, where does the Penske group go for additional manufacturers since many OEM's are in IMSA/WEC? The crew goes over major news stories in the world of motorsports before recapping NFL Week 14 for their real and fantasy squads. Phil and Josh are facing each other in the quarterfinals of the FallBrawl league after battling back from difficulties earlier in the season. On this three guest episode of the NHRA Insider Podcast, racers Tony Stewart, Tony Zizzo, and Chris King join host BrianLohnes to talk about winning races, new cars, and working relentlessly to make it in the sport of NHRA drag racing. Tony Stewart has come on very strong lately in Top Alcohol Dragster. Winning the national event in Las Vegas unleashed he and his team and they have gone on to capture another victory, recently, at the Indy regional Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. Stewart talks about the evolution of the team, how he has evolved as a competitor and a wide variety of topics. Tony Zizzo and Chris King are both Chicagoland area drag racing success stories. Neither man is made of money but both will be racing nitro burning cars at the Rt 66 Nationals. Zizzo and team took more than a season off to construct a brand new, cutting edge top fuel dragster. They have designs on making trouble for the competition at their home track. Chris King is a Chicago firefighter who loves funny cars and has worked his whole life to get to a point where he can compete in one. King tells his story of hard work, being a regular guy, and how he's been able to make his dreams slowly come true. Three great conversations in this one, you'll enjoy it all!
The last time Dale Earnhardt Jr. and co-host Mike Davis sat down with Tony Stewart, he was single and embarking on a 90-plus date sprint car schedule. Now, just four years later he's happily married, owns an NHRA team, and is a Top-Alcohol Dragster event winner. Tony fills the guys in on his efforts to get in shape and where he and his wife, fellow NHRA competitor Leah Pruett, are thinking of settling down. They also discuss the difficulty of trying to run sprint cars on a part-time basis, and how competitive the dirt ranks have become in recent years. Another new development for Tony was the 2020 formation of the Superstar Racing Experience, in which he won the inaugural points championship. Tony explains the vision behind the racing series, which drivers have impressed him thus far, and where he envisions it going in the future. The interview also covers how Tony and Leah met and how he ended up in the drag racing world. Phil and Josh return for E165 of the GSP to recap IndyCar at Long Beach and NASCAR at Martinsville. Kyle Kirkwood dominated from pole to win his first IndyCar race, with Andretti Autosport taking three of the top four positions. Pato O'Ward wore the black hat with two ill-advised moves going into Turn 9, with one eliminating Scott Dixon. The guys go over the race, what it means for Kirkwood going forward and the points leading into Barber in two weeks. NASCAR Cup closed the triple-header weekend at Martinsville Speedway, with Kyle Larson taking his first win at the paperclip along with the grandfather clock. Even with down-force, aero and engine power adjustments, the racing was just as bad or worse than last year. Larson was nowhere but used strategy to get track position and eventually lead the last 30 laps to victory. Stewart-Haas Racing had four fast Ford Mustangs, but not much to show for that. Chase Briscoe led the team with a fifth place finish and second most laps led, while pole-sitter Ryan Preece dominated the first stage only to speed on pit road and have to climb back to 15th. Kevin Harvick ran up front for the majority of the day but issues on pit road and a cut tire relegated the soon to be retiree to 20th. Aric Almirola had a roller-coaster day but salvaged a sixth. Other key players are discussed and points are reviewed before the teams and drivers head to Talladega. In the XFinity Series, Phil picked the driver to win in John Hunter Nemechek, and he paid that off by burning his Toyota Supra to the ground in celebration. Basically nobody else had anything for him and he is now the points leader in the series over Austin Hill. The Trucks saw the introduction of the damp weather oval tires, raced in the first stage prior to a stoppage for rain. Corey Heim battled his former boss Kyle Busch for 124 laps before the race was called and the Tricon Garage driver earned his 3rd career victory. A packed GSP Roundup covers Supercross, IMSA, MotoGP/Moto2, WEC at Portimao, NHRA at Las Vegas Four Wide (with someone named Anthony Wayne Stewart winning in Top Alcohol Dragster...he's won somewhere before), along with previews of Rally Croatia for WRC, Formula E in Berlin and WSBK in Assen. The Tate Fogleman Algorithm returns to the site where it got its name, since the Cup and XFinity teams will be at Talladega this weekend. Phil and Josh preview and make picks for both races plus the wild card selection. Josh provides details of his go-karting exploits and iRacing work on his Sim Segment prior to show close.
Phil and Josh return for Episode 141 of the GSP and open with football news since Josh's Jacksonville Jaguars traded running back James Robinson prior to the show. Josh goes off and that opens up a football discussion for both regarding their actual and fantasy teams. NASCAR had a tripleheader at Homestead which saw Kyle Larson dominate and win but he sent Martin Truex, Jr. on pit road late in the race to assist in his victory. With one race left before Phoenix, the likes of Chris Bell and Chase Briscoe are in must win situations while Ryan Blaney and Hamlin are in the mix points wise. William Clyde Elliott II, William Byron and Ross Chastain currently hold the other three spots behind Joey Logano. Issues for 23XI after showing great speed along with other big drivers but AJ Allmendinger continues to have success with six consecutive top 10's. Gagson won his 8th XFinity race of 2022 to lock himself into the XFinity championship race at Phoenix while Keebler Gibbs is in good shape points wise. Allmendinger, Justin Allgaier and Austin Hill have a chance via points but Sam Mayer and Brandon Jones need a win. Ty Majeski won his second race in the Round of 8 while teammate Ben Rhodes got an assist from the remainder of ThorSport to advance into the Final 4 with Zane and Chandler Smith. Formula 1 ran at Circuit of the Americas in front of a massive crowd and Lewis Hamilton led late into the US Grand Prix...but the usual result took place in the end. Verstappen helped to win Red Bull their first Constructor's Title since 2013 on the weekend that Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz passed away. The crew covers the race and all the movers heading into a doubleheader with Mexico. The GSP Roundup gets into MotoGP/Moto2 at Phillip Island, WRC Rally Spain, WSBK in Argentina and previews of Supercars at Surfers Paradise and NHRA at Las Vegas which will see the debut of Tony Stewart in a Top Alcohol Dragster. Phil and Josh preview and make picks for the F1 Grand Prix of Mexico along with NASCAR Cup and XFinity at Martinsville plus who advances. Josh gives us all the news on the iRacing and gaming area with the Sim Segment before Show Close.

They often say that greatness comes as much from experience as it does within. As a child, Megan Meyer watched her father's own pursuits of racing greatness as a World Champion tuner, owner, and driver. By the age of ten, she was behind the wheel of her own junior dragster where she earned back-to-back points championships at her local Kansas City drag strip.By 16 while having to handle the transportation, servicing, and driving duties on her own, she served as top and bottom-end mechanic for her family-owned Top Alcohol Dragster where she learned the techniques of the race car, and in 2013, began piloting at test-n-tune days.In 2015, Megan earned her NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster license and had an outstanding debut in 2016 with a winning-streak that was unheard of for the sport as she defeated many of the heavy hitters in the male-dominated class. Five years later, she would capture her second consecutive World Championship and perhaps realized until that point, her greatest day managing to pull off the wedding of her dreams all in the same week! She's A 2x World Champion NHRA Drag Racer, Record Holder, and the Winningest Pro-Sportsman Female Driver in the NHRA. Her journey at least early on, needed only to travel as far as her own home in Drobak Norway to her dad Thomas and her grandfather Albin, who consistently claimed success on both the Pro Mod and Top Fuel European circuits. Today, Julie's proven that good things do indeed come in three's as she adds to the family legacy piloting her own championship proven NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster for Randy Meyer Racing. Driver Bio: With her dad as a retired Top Fuel pilot, Julie Nataas has been around racing since she was born. Her drag racing career began in a Junior Dragster in 2005 when she was 8 years old. In 2007 she also started Go Karting and later on added Formula Basic to her career. For a few years, she drag raced and drove her Formula Basic car on the weekends, and practiced Go Karting during the week. She stepped up from her Junior Dragster to Super Comp in 2013, and quit Go Karting and Formula Basic racing as drag racing is where her heart belongs. In 2014 she won the European Drag Racing Series Central Division and placed second in the European Drag Racing Series. After a successful season in Europe, she finished high school and moved to Santa Barbara, California for college. She received her BA in Liberal Art Studies with a double concentration in Marketing and Business at Antioch University, Santa Barbara. Her first trip to a racetrack in the U.S. was to the finals in Pomona, CA when she was 11 years old, watching her dad race with the most successful people in drag racing. It was definitely a different experience being at the races in the U.S. compared to the races in Europe, and Julie's dream changed from racing in Europe to race in the NHRA Championship as a professional race car driver. Megan Meyer, 2019 Lucas Oil Top Alcohol Dragster World Champion, stops by WFO to discuss her championship season and give her plans for a title defense.
Top Fuel Alcohol Dragster Racing The rumble and raw speed of a Top Fuel Alcohol Dragster is an incredible thing to witness and quite frankly, the in-between rounds back in the pits is a true mechanical wonder to experience as a fan, no matter how old or what background you have. That visceral acquaintance with horsepower leaves us all in a wonderment longing for more. In a world of constant change, the NHRA has never ceased to deliver that consistent attraction for fans, while inspiring future generations to get behind both the wheel and picking up a few wrenches behind the flywheel. First Woman Champion As the award winning 2019 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion, Megan Meyer http://bit.ly/MeganMeyerRacing since the age of 10, has competitively raced with the grit and zeal of a seasoned veteran. She grew up around the sport of drag racing as the oldest daughter of renowned championship winning driver and team owner, Randy Meyer. She has stepped up time after time setting up at the starting line while offering a burnout to track down a competitive run. Megan has alcohol running through her veins as a fierce racing spirit. Coming off the heels of a big win running side-by-side with points rival Troy Coughlin Jr. to command the championship, we are honored to have Megan Meyer on the show!
