Podcast Overview: In this conversation, Will Clarke, Huxley, and Ramin Rezaie discuss the evolution of the music industry over the past decade, emphasizing the importance of community building, engagement, and authenticity. They explore the role of luck in achieving success, the challenges posed by the streaming landscape, and the diminishing relevance of curators. The discussion also touches on the need for artists to understand their value in the business and the launch of a new platform aimed at supporting artists in their development.Who Is Huxley: Huxley aka Michael Dodman is one of the hardest working producers and DJs out there. Originally weaned on a classic British diet of house, garage and techno, he's continually buffing his sound via increasingly high profile DJ sets and a steady string of well received singles and EPs. Huxley has plunged his beats deeper and wider to incorporate more of his influences through releases for some of electronic music's best loved imprints including Tsuba, Morris Audio, Fear of Flying, Hypercolour and 20:20 Vision.Who Is Ramin Rezaie: British talent Ramin Rezaie is known all over Europe and further afield for his energetic House / Tech House / Minimal Deep Tech. With a great performance background he's played at some of the world's most reputable clubs including Fabric London, DC10, Studio 338, Privilege Ibiza, EGG London. Influenced by everything from Funk and Hip-Hop to avant-garde electronica. Ramin's prominence is on musical depth rather than genre boundaries. His approach to the skilled art of DJing is unorthodox and unique, expect hypnotic journeys accompanied by his signature produced stripped back RAW grooves with hard kicks, trembling sub baselines, sharp synths accompanied by soulful vocal cuts. With all this being said it's no surprise that his productions receive regular support from the heavy hitters including Jamie Jones, Richy Ahmed, Solardo, Dennis Cruz, Reelow, PAWSA and Michael Bibi to name just a few.Join for updates: https://laylo.com/willclarke⏲ Follow Will Clarke ⏱https://djwillclarke.com/https://open.spotify.com/artist/1OmOdgwIzub8DYPxQYbbbi?si=hEx8GCJAR3mhhhWd_iSuewhttps://www.instagram.com/djwillclarkehttps://www.facebook.com/willclarkedjhttps://twitter.com/djwillclarkehttps://www.tiktok.com/@djwillclarke Hosted on Acast. VIDEO VERSION: https://youtu.be/fMfnyEcnJis Introducing Hector: Hector's journey to becoming a renowned DJ started at the age of 16 when he first stepped behind the decks. Originally from Mexico, his ambition led him to seek opportunities beyond his hometown, eventually finding his way to the vibrant music scene in London. Working at the legendary Phonica record shop proved to be a pivotal moment, as he crossed paths with influential figures like Anja Schneider and Loco Dice, who later offered him positions on their esteemed imprints, mobilee and Desolat. Through his association with Desolat, Hector solidified his place as an exciting and dynamic player in the global music scene. His captivating performances while touring the world garnered a strong and devoted following, earning him respect from fans and industry peers alike. Alongside his DJ career, Hector's hunger for artistic evolution led him to produce his own music, which was quickly picked up by highly respected labels such as mobilee, Desolat, One Records, and Tsuba. With an unrelenting desire to conquer the world's biggest clubs and festivals, Hector has made a name for himself as a resident DJ at Marco Carola's Music On in Ibiza. He has also graced renowned festivals like Time Warp, DEMF, Kazantip, Awakenings, BPM, Hideout, and Sunwaves, while delivering unforgettable club sets at esteemed venues like Tokyo's Womb, Space Miami, Fabric London, and New York's Output. In 2015, Hector shifted his focus to supporting others by forming the Vatos Locos crew, an assembly of talented and underrated producers and DJs who emerged during BPM Festival in Mexico. The crew operates as a family, emphasizing a democratic and ego-free approach to creating unforgettable experiences. From WMC and Movement in Detroit to Sonar and Ibiza's Underground, the Vatos Locos crew has brought their unique vibe to audiences worldwide. Hector's commitment to nurturing emerging talents extends to every aspect of Vatos Locos, including their record label, parties, and tours. VL Recordings, launched in 2016, aims to spotlight lesser-known artists and Hector's closest friends. With releases from artists like Mahony, Seb Zito, David Gtronic, and the VL crew, the label continues to showcase exceptional music. Hector's dedication to the brand goes beyond his DJ career. He oversees the entire process, from merchandise design to event production, encouraging the entire Vatos Locos crew to contribute to decision-making. As Hector's empire expands across the globe, he remains focused on maintaining the highest standards of quality and promoting his Vatos Locos familia. With an unwavering passion and clear vision, this Mexican powerhouse shows no signs of slowing down, leaving an indelible mark on the world of DJing. One of the more enduring house labels over the years have been Tsuba Recordings, a label incubated in the UK and celebrated world-wide. Known for pushing and releasing the more underground side of house, Tsuba has developed into a label that is pretty much played by everyone who loves a good groove, with producers like Detroit Swindle, Spencer Parker, Sebo K, Galcher Lustwerk and more, all boasting a Tsuba guernsey. Just have a listen to ‘Kung Fu Cantona’, arguably the labels biggest track (it did spend 2 months at number 2 on Beatport’s Deep House chart), to get an idea of the what Tsuba is all about - it’s smoky and hypnotic groove is hard to resist. The man behind that track, as well as the Tsuba label, Kevin Griffiths, is also next in line to deliver the next Balance Selections podcast. Over the past 8 years Kevin Griffiths have toured around the globe, and has graced the decks at the world’s most prestigious venues ranging from London’s fabric to Berlin’s Watergate. Now based in Adelaide, Australia, the Tsuba main man is showing no signs of slowing down with his productions and label, announcing projects like the vinyl-only pseudonym Midnight Special, a collaboration with ex-Peace Division main man Justin Drake, and also various Tuba releases (singles, EPs and compilations). Kevin Griffiths is truly a house disciple, and his podcast is a fine representation of all different degrees of house, from deep to tech to acid. It’s time for a session of some proper underground, head-down and hazy house vibes. Tracklisting and interview: http://www.balancemusic.com.au/news/balance-selections-011-kevin-griffiths-tsuba/

One of a series of Media Network programmes that originated from the 1985 Expo in Tsuba, just North of Tokyo. I used the visit to the expo to visit Akihabara, called Electric Town, even then. The Sony ICF2001D has just gone on sale, and I remember picking one up for considerably less than in Europe. Just had to make do with a Japanese only instruction booklet. We also look at the domestic shortwave radio station Radio Tampa. This was one of the first Media Network safaris, exploring media in other countries. Remember it is nearly 30 years old!
For a change, here comes a LUVCAST by two bavarian youngsters that live and party (and DJ, for that matter) in one if Europe's finest cities for electronic music: Munich! Damnitsdisco are "Johannes better known as Findus and Bernie aka Acid Kayak" - alright? Their passion for non-minimal music in a somewhat narrow minded surrounding helped them emerge as bonafied party organizers and DJs after they moved to Munich in 2000. With a series of club nights and back to back sets, they have become a respected duo in this rich city of electronic music culture. Their current home base is the KONG and their party is called "Farbe am Morgen". The mix we're featuring was recorded live at one of their nights - nothing but KILLER disco and house cuts! FEDERICO MOLINARI (OSLO Records) Argentinian born Federico Molinari has early roots in music. Originally trained as a bass guitarist, he has been into Jazz and other musical directions long before he started to experiment with electronic music. In the early noughties Federico moved to Germany, where he met Nekes, Ray Okpara and Johnny D. The guys then spent several years together in Mannheim, while they were managing the Zoo Club and playing all around the Frankfurt/Main area. Later Federico found himself at Freebase Records, where he was dealing with fine tunes for a couple of years. During this time, he and Nekes decided to found OSLO Records, to find a way to express their own idea of electronic music, as well as to have a homebase for own productions and those of friends. Quickly OSLO became one of the hottest underground imprints and gained attention not only in Europe, but all over the world for its superb and original releases. For several years now, Federico Molinari is travelling all around the globe. He became a respected and frequently booked artist and is a well known character in the scene. He has released several EPs on labels as Raum...Musik, Tsuba and others in recent years. In 2013 he moved to Berlin. Federico is also involved in several art projects with international multimedia artists. LIVET Booking Agency www.livet.de http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/federicomolinari
Metroline Episode 45 is finally here. Our guest DJ for our latest Podcast chapter is Spanish producer Bolumar who has released a 4 tracker on the label, his release called Hypnotic Trip EP was out on May 5th and include a remix by Alessio Mereu. Originating from the beautiful and historic Spanish stronghold of Valencia, Jose Bolumar Molina alias Bolumar, has prominently emerged from the city increasingly vibrant underground music scene as one of its most cherished musicians. Complimentary to his natural Spanish elegance and charismatic demeanor, Bolumar brings a very unique and infectious sound; something which truly sets him apart from the rest, the combination of which has ignited his ascension to becoming one of Valencia most promising underground tacticians. Influenced by the likes of Fuse front man Enzo Siragusa, Tsuba boss Kevin Griffiths, and one of Frankfurt hottest exports Vera, to name but a few, Bolumar follows through with a music style very much suited to that of his native city unassuming vibe; minimalistic, deep and techy. With his career commencing during his impressionable teenage years, Bolumar initially established himself through playing experimental gigs at small-time venues and parties in his hometown. It was through playing such gigs that he developed a real attitude for DJing and a raw passion for electronic music. Gaining early recognition for injecting his infectious melodies and creativity into consistently unforgettable sets, this consecutively led Bolumar to gain a well-deserved residency at one of Valencia most revered underground venues, Miniclub. It was here where Bolumar took-hold of the weekly Thursday night event Klinik Music Club, captivating his clubbers and creating a real lasting impression with his intelligently fused selection of deep, dubby house and minimal tech sounds. Having firmly established his capabilities behind the turntables, in 2010 Bolumar attentions turned towards production; three years on those efforts have started turning heads well beyond his local realms, with Bolumar music creating a real buzz amongst his industry peers, both across Spain and Europe.

Episode 3 of the 22 Digit Deep Tech house podcast series featuring a tribute to Shindig's 21st birthday and a guest mix from Moodymanc. "Moodymanc" has become one of the most respected names in house music today. The cheeky monniker was given as a nickname to Danny Ward by his cohorts at 2020 Vision recordings due to his heavily jazz tinged productions and Mancunian roots (Danny was a Hacienda regular and performer back in the day) whilst he was producing his two widely acclaimed albums and may 12"s under the name "Dubble D" and as part of "2020 Soundsystem". The rest is house music history with the first series of 12"s on his own imprint through 2020Vision leading to releases on labels including Tsuba and Dessous (as well as 2020Vision itself), and underground 12"s on boutique labels including Landed, Abstract Theory and Fly By Night. The considerable success and response of these releases, not to mention his chart topping eps "Black Paint", "Joy" and "Father" have showcased his unique production skills and lead to him becoming one of the most in demand re-mixers around, keeping his name consistently in the bestseller and DJ charts and earning the respect of most of the big hitters on the scene, whilst his tribute re-work of Whitney Houston's "It's not right, but it's okay" continues to be an internet sensation. Danny's roots lie in his background as a jazz musician (he still regularly performs with some of Europe and the US's finest) leading him to gain work with such beat luminaries as Rae and Christian, the Pharcyde, Fila Brasilia and many more before taking the drum and production seats in 2020 soundsystem with Ralph Lawson and Silver City, this led him to perform and dj at some of the biggest clubs, dance events and festivals across the world and has seen him create a large media presence having graced the cover of DJ magazine and been featured in all the Dance music glossies as well as the underground blogs. 2013 is kicking off in fine style for Danny with Moodymanc re-mixes of 95 North's classic "Let Yourself Go" tearing up dancefloors and vinyl eps in line for spring release on Frole , Abstract Theory and Gimmick, plus a "Dubble D" ep on Dark Energy and further side projects and an album planned for later in the year. Huxley, born Michael Dodman, is a name you're sure to continue to hear more and more off after firmly cementing his place in the UK house scene this past two years. Raised on a diet of UK & US Garage, House and early rave music- Huxley has moulded his music into what is his can be called his own distinctive mark on house music. First appearing on the scene with sometime collaborator, Ethyl, on their critically acclaimed 2009, Sassanids EP on Nick Curly's “Cecille Numbers”- as a duo they went on to release the 'Beatport Deep House 2010' nominated, Mother Tongue, on UK superpower- Tsuba. It was this that really put the duo on the map. Since this time Huxley has gone on to carve out his own solo career with releases on Tsuba, Morris Audio, Fear Of Flying and Suara, and remixes on labels such as Noir, Cecille, OFF. 2011 has seen dates at illustrious venues such as Fabric, Privilage & Le Batofar as well as dates in Ibiza, Italy, Germany of course throughout the UK. With forthcoming music on Hypercolour, Leftroom, Rebirth and his home label, Tsuba, there is a lot in store across the board of the house spectrums.

Moodymanc is continuing to cause a big stir amongst the house community of late. Having previously released under the guise of Dubble D and performing drum and production duties with 20 20 Soundsystem (which has put him on the front cover of DJ magazine!). Danny Ward now delivers house bombs as Moodymanc that are being championed by the premier league of artists and music lovers across the board. Moodymanc has had great success with recent E.P's on labels such as Tsuba, Neurotraxx Deluxe, 20 20 Vision, Dessous and Kolour to name a few. His status as a DJ, producer, remixer and highly acclaimed jazz musician continue to elevate as his honed talents set him apart from the rest. He has been in massive demand as a re-mixer, with recent mixes including Affkt's "Lost Key" on Suara, A Marques "New Orleans" on Sol Recordings and Kisk's "DIY2" on Apparel music gaining much chart success. Re-mixes for Ornate Music, Apparel music, Abstaract Theory and others are being released over the next few months. Moodymanc's "Seedz", from the same titled E.P has been re-released on Tsuba's latest compilation and featured on Cocoon's "Green and Blue" compilation. As well as this he has current releases on Neurotraxx deluxe (which stayed at no.2 in the beatport deep house charts), Centric Music, Scenic Tones and Apparel music. He has a current release on 'Tsuba Colours': the 'paint it black' EP featuring a re-mix by US house legend Larry Heard, which is creating a big buzz amongst the house faithful and press alike. The vinyl pressing sold out within a week and went to re-press after gaining more than 7000 plays on soundcloud in the week before release. It has just been released digitally on Beatport etc and looks like charting highly here too. Other releases are imminent on Ornate, 20 20 Vision, Abstarct Theory and Centric Music with more planned into the summer.

1) Can you tell us a bit about the mix - how did you approach it? This is just a mix up of some of my favourite tracks at the moment. It also gives a good indication of the vibe that i'm playing out. Looking back at the tracklist it's actually pretty upfront for me. I normally play more of a mixture of old and new stuff. 2) How and where was the mix recorded? I just recorded the mix in my studio at home, just on some CDJs and a pioneer 600 . Nothing really that special to mention i'm afraid. However, I do often edit the tracks I play a bit before hand, to make them more to how i feel they will work when i play them. Especially for studio mixes when you have more time to think about how you want to piece things together. 3) Is the 'how' important? IE are you strictly vinyl, digital only, a keen fan of gadgets like FX boxes etc etc? For me, personally, I'm not that fussed. Right now i just play out using CDs and a tiny bit of vinyl, sometimes. I think everyone has their own way of working, and if it works for them, then that's great. People get too caught up about the 'how' sometimes and forget about the music, which is the most important part for me. Saying this, i'm looking to get into ableton or traktor soon though, as they both look like pretty cool programs. 4) And for a normal set in a club - how much preparation goes into each one? How much planning do you do or are most of your sets done on the fly? I'd love to say i'm one of those people who meticulously plans everything before hand, but i'm very much a 'on the fly' type of person. I also find that if you have this approach you can adapt to the crowd/situation easier. I mean you could have planned the best set in the world, but if the crowd isn't feeling it, then you're not doing your job. 5) You’re playing a set for Ketoloco @ The Light Bar on Sunday 29th August - what can people expect from you? More of the same with a few surprises and maybe some more exclusives!
