And that's it...Season 2 has come to an amazing end...player, coach and pundit. She joined the likes of Nathan Blake, Iwan Roberts, Danny Gabbidon and Neil Taylor in Qatar for three weeks during the country's first appearance in the World Cup since 1958 – delivering news bulletins and leading a Q&A podcast with the Football Association of Wales (FAW).A former international player with over 50 caps to her name, Kathryn represented several teams during her 15-year footballing career including Inter Cardiff (now Cardiff City), Barry Town, Bristol Rovers, and the Welsh national women's team, becoming the first female footballer in Wales to secure 50 caps. After attending the 2016 World Cup in France, she was invited by BBC Radio Cymru to join the channel as a pundit, offering commentary on the competition. Since then, she has commentated on several national games and is a regular contributor to the famous Welsh Language S4C Soccer show "Sgorio".From a young age, Kathryn was determined to play football and she tells us all about how at seven years old, she persuaded boys in the playground to let her join them after watching and practicing their techniques. Rob speaks with Sally Needham, a Development and Performance Culture Lead at Sheffield United Football Club.Sally spent 13 years at The FA within the skills programme and then as a county coach developer and holds the UEFA A Licence and the Advanced Youth Award (5-11). Sally is a Thrive Practitioner, where she has taken the latest in neuroscience, child development and attachment theory and applied it into football. Along with being a Coach Developer for The FA and Consultant at 4Growth, she is currently at UCLAN doing a Professional Doctorate in Elite Performance.     Sally and Rob discuss her journey to being a child development specialist working in football, her position in Sheffield United, how modern psychological science is applied practically in coaching and techniques that are used with young people to nurture them as balanced human beings as well as footballers.     KEY TAKEAWAYS Through a job at Barnsley College helping with coaching and a healthy interest in football, Sally took a Sport and Exercise Science Degree at Leeds Metropolitan University. Sally fully learned her trade in coaching working with the 5-11 age group for the Advanced Youth Award. After gaining an interest in the psychological and social aspect of young peoples development, Sally studied brain development, child development, attachment theory and modern neuroscience and is currently studying for her Doctorate in Elite Performance. Sheffield United's mantra is ‘Outrun, Outfight, Outplay'.   Having the backing of the best people at Sheffield has allowed Sally to implement her psychological knowledge to the coaching of young players. Sally explains the science to her students, demonstrates the benefit in football and then practically applies it. With dysregulation, our thinking, behaviour, heart rate and breathing can become erratic. We might feel panic or depression out of nowhere, or our emotions can suddenly explode and flood us with adrenaline (the fight/flight response). Sheffield has adopted the techniques for training that the knowledge of science offers and applied it to their development plans for young players including psychological techniques previously and traditionally untried in youth football arena. BEST MOMENTS  ‘At the time there were only two or three females in the country tutoring so I went in down that route and started tutoring when I was about 22 or 23 which was quite unique at the time being female and quite young still.' – Sally ‘It's a great story and its littered with characters from the game; Pete Sturgess. I've watched Pete coach and and I can't tell you, for me, a better relater to young players than I've seen with him.' - Rob ‘I think the biggest thing for us, and I say this quite a lot, is you can give people the ingredients but if they haven't got the recipe then they're only going to hit so far.' – Sally ‘I think sometimes we perceive it that the boys are not going to buy into it, but a lot of the lads when they do it really enjoy it.' – Sally ‘When you do fist bumps or thumbs up or checking in and checking out, it's a big indicator that if a child wants a fist bump and the next three weeks doesn't want any bodily contact it's a red flag. So it gives us an understanding of what's going off in that child.' – Sally   VALUABLE RESOURCES Leader Manager Coach Podcast      ABOUT THE HOST   Rob Ryles is a UEFA A licensed coach with a League Managers Association qualification and a science and medicine background. In the final episode of series 1 I spend an hour chatting to my UEFA A Licence tutor and good friend Geoff Noonan. Geoff has had a long and varied career in the game taking up nearly every possible role in a Cat 1 academy and most recently as an FA Youth Coach Developer in the professional game. Geoff discusses how to construct a coaching syllabus and how important a varied games programme is in the development of young players. We also reflect on modern trends in the game and how they have evolved from previous tried and tested formations or playing styles. I hope you enjoy the conversation.

Prior to this, Amy was a lecturer at St Mary's University London in Physical and Sport Education and then programme director. Amy holds a Masters and DProf. We speak about a paper that Amy has just co-authored related to strategic understanding, which looks at soccer coaches' interpretation, knowledge and application of game strategies. Specifically, game understanding; building meta- cognitive game skills; and the use of video games to improve learning transference onto the football pitch.

Hello & Welcome to episode 19, in Season 2 of the 6, 8 or 10 Podcast. Today I'm joined by friend, Charley King. Charley is the 18's Head Coach at Queens Park & host of his new podcast First Touch Forward. I've know him for 10 years, that's a third of my life. We met at college in the City Centre of Glasgow while studying Sports Coaching and Development in Sport. I'm delighted he accepted the invitation when I asked him to come on the show. An obvious topic in recent podcast is lockdown, I speak to him about he and the players are adapting and moving on with it. We also speak about our time together at college and how we feel it helped when moving into the real world. We then take a trip back to his childhood, somewhere I always like to go with guests to talk about his memories and heroes. His coaching journey is inspiring, it speaks for itself. He has spent 10 years at Queens Park, which means he should be due a testimonial any time soon. He worked his way from Community Classes to Head Coach of the 18s. An impressive journey, one that he has sacrificed a lot of time too. A current UEFA A Licence coach, we speak to him about his experiences on the licence courses and the words he has for aspiring young players. Queens Park is his home, Mr Queens Park as some may see him. He has spent a lot of his time working with the players at the club and developing them for the future, no matter what their future may be.

Episode 10 is with Coventry Captain - Liam Kelly. I had the chance to sit down with Liam for a couple of hours last June on the UEFA A Licence to talk life & the beautiful game, we were also joined in a short cameo by his former team mate Marc McNulty who was at the hotel with the Scotland Squad, we couldn't share the who conversation for obvious reasons. We chat about his first memories before diving into him turning pro as a teenager. His move to Scotland to join Kilmarnock & played with Scotlands 21s. To Bristol City, where he suffered a horrendous ACL injury & then finding his feet again. The turbulence of Leyton Orient to the highs of a new challenge at Coventry City. We also touch on family, music and coaching. Which could be the next step for him once he hangs up the boots but there a few years left in the legs yet. Sit back, get a coffee and enjoy. Bye Now
