Today, on Hook of a Book, I review Dress Coded, by Carrie Firestone. I heard about this book from a friend, and OMG, it was amazing. When Molly's friend is dress coded for wearing a tank top to school, Molly starts a podcast that shares stories of girls who have been dress coded. Her goal? To do away with the dress code, or at least revise it to make it less strict. The dress code targets certain girls' bodies, and Molly disapproves. However, it isn't as easy as Molly thought to start a revolution, and she has to deal with family troubles too—her older brother, Danny, vapes, and Danny tries to sell vape pods to middle schoolers. Meanwhile, more and more girls are being dress coded every day, and Molly is itching to do more than just a podcast. Can Molly help Danny and do away with the dress code? If you have a book you want me to review on the show, email me at: hookofabookpodcast@gmail.com. You can also send in a voice message that might be featured on a future episode! The link is below. When Molly, home alone with her two young children, hears footsteps in the living room, she tries to convince herself it's the sleep deprivation. She's been hearing things these days. Startling at loud noises. Imagining the worst-case scenario. It's what mothers do, she knows. But then the footsteps come again, and she catches a glimpse of movement. Suddenly Molly finds herself face-to-face with an intruder who knows far too much about her and her family. As she attempts to protect those she loves most, Molly must also acknowledge her own frailty. Molly slips down an existential rabbit hole where she must confront the dualities of motherhood: the ecstasy and the dread; the languor and the ferocity; the banality and the transcendence as the book hurtles toward a mind-bending conclusion. In The Need, Helen Phillips has created a subversive, speculative thriller that comes to life through blazing, arresting prose and gorgeous, haunting imagery. Anointed as one of the most exciting fiction writers working today, The Need is a glorious celebration of the bizarre and beautiful nature of our everyday lives. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/pbliving/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pbliving/support
Best Old Time Radio Podcast with Bob Bro Monday, April 19, 2021 - OTR Comedies Fibber McGee & Molly: Cleaning the Hall Closet The very favorite (and perhaps most remembered) of the all the running gags on the Fibber McGee & Molly program is opening the hall closet door. That beloved closet, and the hilarious results of opening it, first appeared in this episode. The plot: Fibber needs his dictionary from the hall closet. When Molly goes to retrieve it for him she opens the closet door and suddenly finds herself buried in a mountain of tumbling rubble -- all the junk Fibber has salvaged and squirrelled away over the years. The closet routine was repeated over and over again throughout the run of the show -- much to the anticipation and delight of audiences and listeners everywhere. Molly Stillman is a writer, blogger, wife, mom, and podcaster. She describes her life as a continuous act of trying to make as much positive impact as she can from her own little space. Molly’s blogging success Molly started her online blogging journey way back when she was in college, a time when not so many people were familiar with online journaling and blogging. Having majored in Creative Writing whilst in College, this went a long way in helping Molly stay consistent and better on her online writing hobby. When she graduated in 2007, Molly decided to take her blogging a notch higher and made a switch from Journal blogging to live WordPress blogging. Looking back at how she’s grown and transformed over the years, Molly owes a lot of it to her first 2-3 years outside of college. It was during this period that she started experiencing the real outside world from a whole new set of lenses; and as she kept writing about these new experiences, her following kept growing. In 2012 Molly decided to rebrand and commercialize her blog. Writing a consistent 5-6 posts a week, Molly was not only grateful for the big following she had begun to amas but also made the big decision of fully focusing on Blogging as her job in 2014. About her niche. And podcasting. Molly writes about purchasing ethical training in the Fashion industry. She’s focused on helping individuals use their purchasing power as clients to make a positive impact. So it was a no-brainer in focusing her podcast theme on the same theme when she started her podcast in 2016. Business with purpose is a podcast where Molly interviews companies, and individuals who are impacting the world in a positive way. She talks about the various stakeholders that these companies and individuals are working with, and how they’ve all decided to put their personal interests aside in order to serve the greater good. 230+ episodes down the line and Molly is more than enjoying her experience with providing a platform to share these wonderful stories. Through the podcasts, Molly is trying to change the current societal culture and mainstream belief system of putting yourself first, and looking out for yourself before anyone or anything else. Molly is trying to show how serving the community and placing yourself after others is a way to not only lead a grateful and happy life but a way of attracting good and luck into your life too. Growing her blog and podcast. Molly has sacrificed her time and focus to ensure the slow and steady growth of her show. She’s said no to ‘Gaming the system’ schemes of trying to amass a big following which isn’t genuine or specific to her niche. This has indeed paid off, as Molly recently did a survey, through which she found out that she has readers who have been following her content for more than 6 years! They’ve become a sort of online family, that has been with her throughout every major step of her adult life; from when she got engaged, married, pregnant, lost her pregnancy and prospering in her career. She’s also had the honour of hosting a diverse range of professionals on her podcasts, all of whom are in unique careers, but in a way, still, find a way to make a positive impact. Because at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter the industry or job that you do, what really matters is how you decided to frame and look at it. You can choose to see it as any other job, or you can see it as an opportunity to serve people and make a positive impact. Molly’s superpower. Integrity. Molly highly values integrity in not just herself, but also in her close friends and family. She’s been committed to sharing nothing but honest and transparent stories through her blog. Molly is also a good discerner. She has the superpower of making the right decisions when faced with the pressure to pick a path in business, or in life generally. Timestamps 00:46 When Molly started her blog in college. 02:21 How Molly rebranded her blog after college 03:39 Starting her Podcast in the summer of 2016 06:13 Changing the current culture to a serving culture 07:16 Growing her podcast. 10:32 The kind of businesses Molly interviews. 14:19 Giving genuine help 16:02 Molly’s advice to aspiring writers 19:46 Practicing daily gratitude journaling. 22:03 Molly’s superpower Quotes There’s only so much you can do with pictures and written words. Actually hearing the story has much more impact. In a culture that promotes the practice of putting your self-interest before others, I’m trying to counter the message by showing the personal and general benefits of serving others. It doesn’t matter what kind of job you’re doing, what really matters is how you choose to look at it, you can either see it as just any other job or a way to make a positive impact and serve people. We all have so very many different and diverse gifts, and they're all an opportunity to make a positive change in the world. Serve without the expectation of receiving in return. Do it cause it’s the right and good thing to do. Realtors always need to learn new things to excel, improve, and close more. In this episode, Molly Slagle talks about innovative marketing ideas for real estate. Molly is from Houston, Texas and she’s with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Worldwide Realtors. Just last year, she finished number two in the company. She used to be an educational diagnostician but she fell in love with real estate. Starting in sales When Molly got her license, she realized that while getting a license is easy, getting clients isn’t. Molly was proactive. She sent messages to the people whom she supported throughout the years, including those who sold her leggings, shakes, workout programs, and other things. She sent them a message telling them how happy she is that she was able to support their small businesses through the years. She told them that she was out in the market and would be the girl to help when it comes to buying and selling real estate. Her business took her two glasses of wine and a little bit of gusto. That first attempt represented over $600,000 worth of real estate for Molly. Growing the business Molly used social media platforms to improve her business. She used Facebook, where she built a good foothold. She became very intentional in her posts online. She also tried sharing things that she learned along the way, including her sales journey, on social media. She also started with memes and photos because videos weren’t a thing then. She shows a personal interest in her prospects. She sends out birthday cards, greetings cards, congratulation cards, and others. Molly built her network by making sure that she was building strong connections with people. She’d send them notes and letters. Her goal is to let them know that she’s always available. Her CRM started on a spreadsheet and she eventually made the switch to Follow Up Boss. She does a lot of outreach. On the first day of school, she buys gift cards that parents and teachers can use to get a cup of coffee. She shares it then asks them to put the hashtag #MollySoldIt to their post. She then puts the posts on Instagram and Facebook. Molly does all different kinds of outreach and builds connections and stronger relationships because she wants her clients and prospects to feel that they’re loved and cared for. The people she gets from her events and outreach are then placed on various campaigns like holiday campaigns. For Molly, her business is all about the heart. She loves people and it shows in the way she treats prospects and clients. “Innovative Marketing Ideas for Real Estate” episode resources Follow and connect with Molly Slagle on LinkedIn. We are so happy to talk with four agented writers about what worked—and did NOT work—in the submission process. We talk about rejections, pivots, subjectivity, and finding the right agent for YOU. We attempt to reverse engineer their submission patterns just before an offer, so you can see what early signs mean you're on the right path. We talk about their darkest moments, when they wanted to give up. And—more than anything—we talk about what they wish they knew, the things that could have saved months or years, when they were still querying agents. We hope you'll leave this podcast feeling inspired, uplifted, and optimistic about your chances of finding the perfect fit for your work. What. Is. That. Noise. When Molly hears KNOCKING coming from the ceiling in her new apartment, she naturally searches for the source. The upstairs neighbors don't know what she's talking about and dismiss her with cool indifference. Is this all in her mind? After all, she's still processing a traumatic event that left her mentally unwell, and the unprecedented heat wave isn't helping her think clearly. As the knocking intensifies and gives way to a woman's cries, Molly becomes consumed with finding out the truth. Could it be Morse code? Is someone trapped? When Molly and Melissa opened their restaurant Palette Food and Juice in Los Angeles, they knew they would source all their ingredients locally and offer a plant-based menu. Everything would be organic. They made the kind of food they wanted to eat, and found that locals liked it too. They took action on those words we hear so often: Buy local and eat a plant-based diet.During the pandemic, Palette Foods is offering online ordering and curbside pickup and delivery.Ivy Joeva interviewed Molly and Melissa outdoors at the restaurant, before the first lockdown in Los Angeles.Links: http://palettefoodandjuice.com http://futurefood.fmhttps://www.futurex.fm/future-of-food

When fears live only in our own minds they can swirl around and eat away at us. When Molly was in College she knew she was battling depression and anxiety. The thought that she would not be able to function in a job after college was haunting her. What happens on days when you need to show up but you are not at your best? How do you handle life we you are depressed but yet you are required to be there? Would depression and anxiety prevent us from being successful and get in the way of our dreams and ambitions? Molly was wrestling with a lot of complex emotions but when she got out of College she was able to challenge the questions that had been the source of her fear. She answered these questions for herself when she got a job teaching. Molly’s story is a beautiful story about showing up even when it is so hard and life is pulling you down. Molly found reasons to get out of bed and show up with love and compassion for her students. She aimed to make a difference in the world for others and in turn it made a difference in her own world - it challenged her fears and showed her what success was. Molly shares some wonderful thoughts and tips for anyone that is dealing with depression. Throw your fit, then put your big girl panties on. Feel life when it’s hard, but don’t stay there. Go find your happiness. These are bold words from Molly Fulton, who shared with us, her beautiful story about overcoming trauma and learning how to be grateful for a breast cancer diagnosis. When Molly enlisted in the Navy, she was told she'd be a good fit as a Naval Secretary, but she knew she wanted more, and eventually, she served in the Navy as an Airman. Life was moving right along when, at only 19 years old, she lost her first child while she was 5 months pregnant. The heartache continued when, just a few months later, her mother passed away. After spending some time in Arizona and giving birth to two amazing children, Molly moved back to the east coast with her kids, hoping to provide them with better education, and escaping an abusive marriage at the same time. Life started to come together while she built a career in health and human services, finished her college degree, and eventually remarried. Life was GOOD. This was until her brother passed away at the age of 42. Her life turned upside down. Devastated, she did her best to "feel the pain, but not stay there and put her big girl panties on." And right as she began to heal, she heard those words,: You Have Breast Cancer. Tune in to hear the rest of Molly's story, and listen as she shares how she "put her big girl panties on" and found the GOOD that comes out of her diagnosis. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/barbellsforboobs/support
Are you ready to get a deep insight into your guitar journey? These 6 lessons from Molly Tuttle will surely inspire you to make some big changes in your guitar playing! Molly Tuttle is one of my guitar heroes that I have the utmost respect for. She has wisdom and technical mastery that blows me away every time I see her play. I am so excited to share these 6 lessons with you! Each one is a golden nugget of guitar wisdom, so make sure you watch all the way through! Before I launch into the interviews, I want to make sure I give credit where credit is due. The first interview is from Q on CBC with Tom Power. The second one I'll be referencing is from eTown. After I share these lessons, be sure to let me know what you want to hear from Molly Tuttle. I'll be interviewing her soon, so I really hope you give me a good question to ask her! So, without further ado, let's launch into the 6 priceless lessons from Molly Tuttle! Lesson #6: Have Fun The guitar shouldn't be a chore. If you can focus your practice sessions and zero-in on the joy and discovery of learning the guitar, the fun will fuel your guitar journey. If you find yourself getting bogged down in technique and you're getting frustrated, take some time to focus on one chord or technique or scale. From there, chunk it out and don't get overwhelmed with learning! Lesson #5: Ego is the Enemy When Molly Tuttle arrived at Berklee College of Music, she was surrounded by jazz musicians, classical musicians, and electronic musicians. When she looked at her peers, she realized that she was a beginner in their world. While this might seem frightening or shocking, Molly handled the situation with grace. She accepted that she was a beginner, checked her ego at the door, and soaked up as much information as she could. How awesome is that?! Lesson #4: Community Who you surround yourself with on your guitar journey — and in life! — is extremely important. Making sure your community supports you and lifts you up is important for your success as a guitar player. Molly had a unique experience being the first woman to be nominated (and win) the International Bluegrass Music Association's Guitar Player of the Year. The community lifted her up, and now she is excited to lift up and support other aspiring women in the industry up as well! Lesson #3: Guitar Accessibility Molly describes her couches at home full of instruments — so much so that you couldn't even sit on them! In fact, the only way to sit down was to have an instrument in your hands! I strongly believe that having guitars easily accessible will help encourage you to play. If you have to take your guitar out of a case every time you want to play it, that's just one more obstacle to overcome in your guitar journey. Lesson #2: Forever Student Molly Tuttle has a unique technique she uses on guitar: claw hammer, which is typically reserved for the banjo. When Molly was teaching at her first music camp, she learned as much as she could about claw hammer guitar technique. Even after achieving success and recognition, Molly Tuttle continued to expand her knowledge of the guitar and still remains a "forever student," or someone who is always learning. I think this is so crucial for guitar journeys. Lesson #1: Embrace Who You Are Never be afraid or ashamed of who you are. "There's nothing normal about everyone being the same," Molly wrote. I cannot agree with her more. Our differences, our uniqueness, are what make us interesting and beautiful humans and musicians. I want to encourage you to search for and embrace who you are. You'll find that if you use this on your guitar journey, you'll see plenty of rewards. On this week's show, we remember New Orleans culinary dynamo Carl Schaubhut, whose life was cut tragically short on September 9, 2019 at the age of 37 following a five-year battle with cancer. We begin by revisiting our 2017 conversation with Carl, where he tells us about his electrifying career that included opening two critically acclaimed restaurants DTB in New Orleans and Bacobar in Covington. After his cancer diagnosis in 2014, Carl remained active both in the kitchen and as a volunteer for culinary benefits and local causes. We explore one of his favorite projects: Ochsner's Eat Fit program. Launched in 2013 by registered dietician Molly Kimball, Eat Fit encourages local chefs to offer more healthful options on their menus. Carl was named Chef Ambassador of the program in October 2017. Last month, Molly released The Eat Fit Cookbook, a collection of recipes from Eat Fit partners throughout Louisiana. When Molly began work on the book, she sought out the assistance of Carl and his former colleagues at Commander’s Palace, Ti Martin and Tory McPhail. We join Ti, Tory, and Molly at Commander's to discuss the cookbook, the Eat Fit program, and Carl’s legacy. In his final months, Carl turned to painting both as an outlet for his boundless creative energy and as a way to financially support his family. You'll find a link to view those paintings and information on how to contribute to the trust he established for his two children on our website, PoppyTooker.com.

Clinical Psychologist Molly Millwood joins Mallory in the MILK Studio to discuss her new book "To Have and To Hold: Motherhood, Marriage and the Modern Dilemma." When Molly first became a mother, she was fully prepared for what she would gain: an adorable baby, hard won mothering skills, and a chaotic, beautiful life. But what she was not prepared for – and what she did not expect – was what she would lose: aspects of her identity, a baseline level of happiness, a general sense of well-being. And though she had the benefit of a supportive partner during this transition, she also envied and at times resented the fact that the disruption to his life seemed to pale in comparison. As a psychologist, Molly knew her experience was a normal response to a life-changing event. But without the benefit of such a perspective, many of the patients she treated in her private practice grappled with guilt, self doubt, and fear, and suffered the dual pain of not only the struggle to adjust but also the overwhelming shame for struggling at all. In her book, Molly surveys the complex terrain of new motherhood, exploring the ways it affects women psychologically, emotionally, physically and professionally, as well as how it impacts their partnerships. Molly Millwood holds a Ph.D in clinical psychology with advanced specialized training in marital therapy and intimate relationships. She is a licensed psychologist in private practice, where she is particularly known for her work with couples and with women navigating the transition to parenthood. Molly lives in Vermont with her husband and two children. Find her at www.mollymillwood.com

Merry Christmas! We close out this year's 25 Days of Christmas with the Hallmark Channel movie Mingle All the Way. We review the movie plus we sneak in a mini-review of The Polar Express. This is our last episode of 2018, but we close it out with a quick preview of what's to come in 2019 (rest assured we'll be back and better than ever!) Here's the IMDB description for Mingle All the Way: ""Mingle All the Way" is a new networking app designed to pair busy professionals together for upcoming events, without long-term romance. Molly, founder of the app, is determined to prove to her family that it is a success. Therefore, she joins the app, and meets another busy professional, Jeff. When Molly and Jeff are matched, they are both horrified to realize they've already had not one, but two disastrous previous encounters. Nevertheless, they agree to stay matched for all their respective upcoming holiday engagements. As the pair gets closer, perhaps their business arrangement might turn into something more this holiday season." We hope every single one of you has a Merry Christmas and/or a Happy Holidays and/or a Happy New Year!

Molly McGuire | Episode 380 Molly McGuire graduated with a BA in ceramics from Central Connecticut State University. Molly's work is focused on texture and creating a tactile experience in everyday objects such as mugs, cups, and lamps. When Molly is not creating, she serves as the gallery coordinator for the university and works at a local museum.
Today our expert guest is Molly Fletcher, who was hailed as the “female Jerry Maguire” by CNN. Molly inspires audiences around the world as a keynote speaker, drawing on success stories from her former life as a sports agent and sharing lessons that she learned from those at the top of their game. One of the most important lessons that Molly learned from working with peak performers is that they lean into discomfort – they embrace it, and they recognize that on the other side of discomfort is growth. When Molly first became a sports agent, she was the only female sports agent… so there were a number of obstacles between her and the incredible success she achieved (she successfully negotiated over $500 million in contracts). It's all about how you think about the obstacles along your journey – are they actually obstacles, or are they opportunities? Molly had to shift her mindset, look at things differently, and celebrate the fact that she was different. It was a gift that athletes remembered her when they were on the range; it was a gift that they had her back when she was behind the dugout; it was a gift that she was able to connect with and serve not only the men she represented, but also their wives. Want to maximize your influence and unleash your potential like Molly? Check out her new podcast, Game Changers with Molly Fletcher. Each episode, she'll take you behind the scenes with peak performers to learn what makes them tick and discover how you can apply their lessons to your life. You can dig even deeper into Molly's incredible insight and experiences in her newest book, Fearless at Work: Achieve Your Potential by Transforming Small Moments into Big Outcomes. The Biggest Helping: Today's Most Important Takeaway “Stay curious. After travelling the world through many developing nations Molly saw how menstruation negatively affects girls and women living in low resource settings. Many of these girls are unable to afford menstrual products and have to resort to using old rags, newspaper, tree bark, and even pieces of old mattresses to manage their monthly bleeds. As you can imagine, using unhygienic methods such as these can cause infections, reproductive health problems, not to mention leaking. When Molly later learned that many of the menstrual products widely sold in North America use harmful chemicals and materials (i.e. pesticides, and other synthetic chemicals) that can cause endocrine disruption, cancer and other illnesses she decided to take matters into her own hands. Molly joined forces with her business partner Morgen and founded Cora. Not only are Cora tampons made from premium organic cotton (and free from harmful pesticides & synthetic materials), but Cora’s is on a mission to empower girls in developing nations. For every product sold, Cora provides sustainable menstrual products to girls in low resource settings. In today's episode, we expose the dangers of using conventional menstrual products, and we also have a much-needed discussion of the challenges that girls and women face in low resource settings. What it means for women and girls when they don't have access to the menstrual products they need to manage their periods.
