Here's an age old question: how do you make marketing a force for good in the world? Welcome to the world of Andrew Forman's win-win-win business strategy. Win 1: Generate piles of money for philanthropic causes. Win 2: Provide people an avenue to do some good while also getting the stuff they want. Win 3: Use companies' intrinsic motivation to improve their bottom line through a marketing strategy that will maximize Win 1 and Win 2. Givz wasn't the company Andrew intended to start, but as is the case with most entrepreneurs, he listened to the needs of his clients and the reception of the customers to pivot into a business model that had real traction and could grow into a substantial company. The premise is simple: what if those discounts that companies offer you (Buy NOW and get 20% Off!) changed slightly, so that instead of getting to keep a few dollars for yourself, you were able to donate that money to a cause you cared about. And, well, that's basically it. But the story gets a whole lot more intricate from there. What Andrew and his team needed to prove was that people would actually prefer the charity option over keeping the money for themselves. And that companies could get as good a return on the charity model as they could on the discount model. And that the money would actually go to causes which would do right by the people they set out to help. A tall order, but one he was up to the task for. Givz has donated over $1,000,000 to charities of their members choosing while proving to businesses that people are at least just as, if not more likely to be compelled by an altruistic message (give to charity) than a self serving one (get a discount). Perhaps, humanity, we've got a shot. In addition to the planet saving and the business modeling, stick around for the wholesome father talk, because who doesn't love that.

Andrew (@ando_pfs) and I met through Instagram and through both participating in the Compound Performance Mentorship. Our introverted tendencies helped us connect. There are so many instances where we are on the same page with our values and work ethic that I was excited to have him on the show to take a deep dive on a few things. There are a lot of podcasts that Andrew has been on that go a lot further into fitness for golfers or simply talk more about exercise and training. We talked a bit more about life and values and people. Andrew started as an athlete in a small town in Kansas where he participated in three sports in high school. His sports career continued at Baker University where he played baseball and basketball. During that time Andrew began to find his true passion for fitness and performance. While majoring in Exercise Science his knowledge on fitness and health continued to grow. Throughout his athletic career at Baker, he realized his strength performance goals could be reached by getting into weight lifting. After he graduated he knew that he wanted to share the knowledge he learned to help other people, and that's where his personal training career started. What Andrew loves about personal training is the fitness industry is always expanding and there is always something new to learn. The mindset and heart of an athlete, he continued to look for opportunities to continue his education with health and fitness. He embraced the learning and concepts of golf fitness and performance. He believes that the general public can benefit from the techniques and concepts of golf fitness training through mobility, flexibility, dynamic movement while throwing a twist with traditional strength and athletic movements. Andrew views health and fitness is not necessarily about looking ripped or toned year round with high intensity workouts, but about a life style change through active habits, maintainable nutritional choices, and a healthy mind set of self-worth. Andrew loves working with all types of people, and enjoys creating valuable interpersonal relationships that can help clients exceed their goals. He enjoys learning about his clients to ensure a fun, motivational and fulfilling workout. If you enjoy this episode, please share a screenshot in your Instagram story or tell a friend. We are thrilled to welcome back our guest today Andrew Cogar who is an architect and president of the award-winning firm Historical Concepts. We discuss his new book, Visions of Home: Timeless Design, Modern Sensibility, collaboration, the narrative of a house, a closer look at a historic Charleston single house, designing around honesty, the concept of the creative process, and more. What You’ll Hear on This Episode: Trials & Triumphs! Karen’s lingering Christmas issues, the Wilcox mirror, adorable doormats, our love of Etsy, Taryn’s old bricks, where to store the extra toilet paper, and Caroline’s new dishwasher. What are some examples of “sparks of joy” as it relates to architecture? Why collaboration is a fun puzzle. What is the concept of a “house narrative”? Recent shifts around the open floor plan. Considering the guest experience and privacy in a house. Reinterpreting the historic Charleston single house featured in Andrew’s book. The importance of designing even the small spaces. Why it’s imperative to be honest with your design team about how you want to live. What Andrew studied and learned while in London. The concept of creative process; emphasis on two separate words. Decorating Dilemma Hi Olivia, The biggest challenge is that this is a pass-through room and it’s hard to get around this square layout. My advice is going to come more from an architectural standpoint than interior design. First, I would suggest putting up a wall. Most people think of this as an impossible task, but it’s not! It’s actually some of the cheapest and simplest construction to do as long as it doesn’t involve any electrical or plumbing. Assuming the fireplace is a gas insert, I would close up that space above the couch and I would put the fireplace on that wall. Incorporate it in a complete wall of bookcases and built-ins and have the TV worked into the bookcase more to the right. You could get a big reading chair and ottoman to be able to take advantage of the fireplace. I would then shift the cased opening and put that where the fireplace was (assuming those are closets and not a powder room) and move the opening there. That way you can have a 3-sided enclosure at the West side of the room. You can put a couch or sectional where the TV currently is, so it really takes advantage of the natural daylight coming in from the sunroom. This really creates two zones; one is a sitting and reading zone and the other one is more of a living room. Being able to see this from the front entryway will really bring it in with the rest of the house. You can spend just as much money and time trying to solve this room, but I think making these inexpensive and simple changes will really unlock so much potential in the space. Hopefully, this is helpful and works out! – Andrew With regards to the rug, we think you should try to find the biggest rug you can find for the space. Usually anywhere from 3inches to a foot of space around the edges works well. It will really help ground and center the room in a good way. Good luck, Olivia! A note from Talking Taiwan host Felicia Lin: In 2013 I spoke with Andrew Yang who was the CEO of Venture for America at the time. He was at his office and multi-tasking during our interview, so when you listen to the interview, you’ll hear some background noise and typing. At the time he talked about being invited to the White House amongst several things. Who would have predicted that a few years later that he would be running as a Democrat for the 2020 U.S. President election? Many now know him as the Presidential candidate who proposed something called the “Freedom Dividend.” With the 2020 U.S. Presidential election results unfolding, and Joe Biden recently declared President-elect, some say that there may place for Andrew in the Biden administration. I thought it would be a good time to share this interview that I did with Andrew. Here’s a little preview of what we talked about in this podcast episode: Andrew’s involvement with the Entrepreneur Challenge and Competition and connection with the Taiwanese American Professionals What is Venture for America? The Venture story is not one that is common in many of its peers on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX). I have followed this company for at least 10 years and they have impressed me with both the quality of the projects and the success that the management has been able to create over time. One of the most important aspects of any mineral explorer is the quality of management and the history of success they have been able to achieve in their time. The other is the quality of projects and it is in this space that Venture Minerals, in my opinion, has executed very well. I speak to Andrew Radonjic, the managing director of Venture Minerals Limited. Andrew shares with us the history and the prospectivity of the projects. What Andrew has that many have not is the history of how exploration was when things were this hot in the market. Andrew shares some insights with us, Exploration is all about perseverance and being able to understand good geology. Open your blinkers and look at things that may not be obvious and do your research and understand the information you are being given. Have you seen a Diversified Mineral Explorer with projects this good? This episode of Coffee with Samso delves into all these questions. At the conclusion of the conversation, I cannot help but think that this company is a few drill holes from a major discovery in any of their projects. If you listen carefully, the projects within the Venture Minerals portfolio are highly prospective and are close to value-adding. Each project has its own unique "wow" factor that makes it an attractive exploration target.

#139 This week, my amazing guest is Dr. Andrew Newberg. Andrew is a neuroscientist who studies the relationship between brain function and various mental states. He is a pioneer in the neurological study of religious and spiritual experiences, a field known as “neurotheology.” His research includes taking brain scans of people in prayer, meditation, rituals, and trance states, so he can better understand the nature of religious and spiritual practices and attitudes. This episode is incredibly interesting because we discuss a rather new, but highly crucial, field. It’s amazing to see how religion and science can come together and even explain each other. How do we as humans have all these contradictory perspectives that can make us even go to war against each other? Are the brains of people who have undergone mystical and or spiritual experiences different than those who have not? How do we even know if we’ve gone through a spiritual experience? Are you really sure of what you believe in? Why is that? These are only some of the deep and important questions we try to answer in this episode as we try to figure out ways to bring us all together as humans. About Andrew: Dr. Andrew Newberg is the director of research at the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health and a physician at Jefferson University Hospital. He is board certified in internal medicine and nuclear medicine. Andrew has been asking questions about reality, truth, and God since he was very young, and he has long been fascinated by the human mind and its complex workings. While a medical student, he met Dr. Eugene d’Aquili, who was studying religious experiences. Combining their interests with Andrew’s background in neuroscience and brain imaging, they were able to break new theoretical and empirical ground on the relationship between the brain and religion. Andrew’s research now largely focuses on how brain function is associated with various mental states—in particular, religious and mystical experiences. His research has included brain scans of people in prayer, meditation, rituals, and trance states, as well as surveys of people's spiritual experiences and attitudes. He has also evaluated the relationship between religious or spiritual phenomena and health, and the effect of meditation on memory. He believes that it is important to keep science rigorous and religion religious. Andrew has also used neuroimaging research projects to study aging and dementia, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, depression, and other neurological and psychiatric disorders. www.andrewnewberg.com Key points with time stamp: Andrew’s work in his own words (4:39) What is Neuro-theology? On today’s show, we are happy to welcome someone we’ve wanted to have on for some time now, Andrew Wilkinson. He is currently a Managing Partner at Tiny Capital, as well as the Founder of MetaLab, which helped design Slack. Along with this, Andrew is also invested in a range of other companies. In this episode, we learn more about his incredible journey and how he grew a passion for tech and design into a range of flourishing businesses. Andrew also sheds light on his investing education and overcoming his initial reluctance to see the power of investments. For Andrew, being an entrepreneur is about freedom to create the life you want, and having time to pursue your interests, which is how he saw the value of delegating. This is not easy when you are starting out your entrepreneurial journey, as Andrew knows, but as a company scales, so too should the owner’s levels of delegation. We take a look at the types of businesses Tiny Capital is interested in and why they are only pursuing simple business models. Our conversation then takes a turn into a different interest of Andrew’s — subscription podcasts. We discuss why these are such effective, yet untapped income-generating models and Andrew shares some of the work they are doing in this space. We then circle back to Tiny and leadership more generally where Andrew unpacks the importance of incentives along with his characteristic lazy leadership style. Andrew’s self-reflexivity and ability to talk openly about his weaknesses is truly refreshing. This conversation was a great look into what it really means to be an entrepreneur. Around 15 years ago, Andrew Hood was transferred to another city for work. It coincided with having financial problems due to a bad real estate investment that he had made at the time. He was isolated from family and friends with a failing single income, a bad investment and a two year old son. He had always been a sufferer of anxiety, but at that point, he was deep in depression also. Andrew didn’t want to let anyone know that things had gotten so bad because that would be like admitting he was failing at life. Things go so bad that his wife ended up calling his father because she was scared that he might hurt, or perhaps even kill himself. Around that same time, he had people coming up to him at work and asking him to be their mentor because they saw him as someone who really had his act together. To put it simply, Andrew was living a lie at work and at home. His wife calling his father was probably the best thing that could have happened to him because of the love and support his parents have always shown him. Andrew still remember his father saying “You don’t understand son, hearing the words ‘dad I need help’ is one of the nicest things that I could ever hear as a father." Soon, Andrew had a plan with his father and accountant to get out of the investment trouble once and for all and was starting to see a therapist about his mental health struggle. Over the next 15 years, Andrew has been working on his career (Now a Director Of Sales for a multinational IT Company), and started a blog which was awarded no.39 in the Best and Most Inspiring Blogs Worldwide, Written two self-published books, and, late last year, signed a publishing contract to release his first novel to the world. He also now loves reading philosophy and learning about people. His life is busy but great. He helps people now, with his management style and in his writing. The book he just published, The Man Who Corrupted Heaven, is about a rich man who dies and progresses through something called the 4 stages of death. It deals with self-reflecting and issues such as child sexual abuse. It is already getting fantastic reviews. Key Points from the Episode with Andrew Hood: In his day job, Andrew is a sales director for an IT company His side hustle, or “passion lane” as he calls it is in his writing Fifteen years ago, he was a junior sales rep at a company. The economy in Australia, where he lives, was booming. On top of the day job, he had lots of little passion projects on the side, and felt like he was thriving. He was married, and had a two year old, and things were good. He was tapped for relocation into a promotion. For six months, everything went well. After that, the work he was moved to do dried up overnight. At the same time, an earlier decision he and his wife made to invest in real estate went South as the global financial crisis took hold. The stress he started living under was tremendous, and the idea that the world thought he was failing only added to it. Andrew described it as a black hole that was following him, and if he didn’t keep moving forward, it would swallow him. Someone at work asked him to be her mentor because he had everything together. Little did she know, he had just been alone in a conference room crying. What was coming out was that Andrew suffers from anxiety, and he was deep in the throes of it. The mentoring brought front and center the idea that he was living a lie because people thought he was ok, but he was struggling inside and hiding it from the world. His wife knew enough of what was going on to know he needed help, and called his father to step in and ask him what was going on. His father said something he would never forget, “One of the best things a father can hear is, ‘Dad, I need help.’” His father helped him work with an accountant to get a plan around the financial problems he faced. Andrew also started to see a therapist, who he shared the idea of living this secret life. He said he always thought secrets were character-building and make you stronger. The therapist shared how the therapy community views secrets, which opened Andrew’s eyes to the need to be open and honest about what we struggle with. She said, “You are only as sick as your secrets.” After the money situation got better, the depression and anxiety remained, as if he was stuck in a hole and couldn’t bring the standard up. This was really interesting - even when the problems go away, the internal work is still needed. As he came through it, he started to write. He told his wife as he began, “I don’t always know what I’m writing until I write it down.” This helped him work through it. He started with a blog, sharing his thoughts. He put out an article on his blog on RUOK Day in Australia about his struggles with mental health and anxiety and the work he did. He was scared to release it as it would expose him and his secrets, but he published it, and the attention started. All his friends and family who knew about the financial issues but not the emotional or mental suddenly knew. What it did was flip a light switch on the issue for others, and people started to share how they also suffered with he same issues but didn’t feel comfortable talking about it. This was the final part of the secret, so when it got out, he started to finally be free of his secrets. As Andrew says, it’s a much better life when you’re not trying to outrun something. He started to get fit, where his health had been suffering for years. He’s started writing books, with is first one taking two years to write. After writing his blog, The Tipping Point, he started to realize he could piece together his thoughts to give a picture of a complete person. His first book is called The Man Who Corrupted Heaven. It was all about a rich man who doesn’t want to give up everything he spent his life building up when he gets to heaven, where you can’t bring anything with you. It follows the main character as he goes through what Andrew called The Four Stages of Death, and the growth he goes through. The sequel, The Man Who Settled the Score, is being written now, and the third book in the series, The Woman Who Stole the World, comes out later. What Andrew realized through everything this that trying to keep it all together by yourself is exhausting and doesn’t help. If you’re worried about someone judging you, then it’s probably not the kind of person you want in your life anyway. Find someone to just talk to so you can start the process. Find something you’re passionate about, and go toward that. Scholé Sisters: Camaraderie for the Classical Homeschooling Mama
Today’s episode was recorded BEFORE the demise of 2020, before quaratines, lockdowns, and economic tragedies. We cut a couple things that no longer made sense, but the rest of it survives as useful and oh so encouraging. Our special guest today is Andrew Pudewa, the founder and director of the Institute for Excellence in Writing and a father of seven. Traveling and speaking around the world, he addresses issues related to teaching, writing, thinking, spelling, and music with clarity, insight, practical experience, and humor. His seminars for parents, students, and teachers have helped transform many a reluctant writer and have equipped educators with powerful tools to dramatically improve students’ skills. Although he is a graduate of the Talent Education Institute in Japan and holds a Certificate of Child Brain Development from the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his best endorsement is from a young Alaskan boy who called him “the funny man with the wonderful words.” He and his wonderful, heroic wife, Robin, have homeschooled their seven children and are now proud grandparents of fourteen, making their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Andrew Pudewa helps us be brave and not hide our homeschooling light under a bucket. He says we should be practicing homeschool evangelism. And when he said this, NO ONE KNEW the entire country would be doing school at home by the time this went live. What Andrew says here is even more applicable than when he first said it. *** Don’t forget to register for Spring Training 2020! Did you know? Andrew J Taggart is a practical philosopher, Zen Buddhist, and entrepreneur. Recently Andrew wrote an article called 'Psychotechnologies of Self-Transformation' that led me to reach out to him and schedule a conversation. This episode was recorded a few months ago, but it occurs to me as exactly the right time to release it. If you are feeling panicked about the Corona Virus, I'd encourage you to slow down, get a hot cup of tea (or go for a walk outside) and enjoy this warm-spirited philosophical conversation. We inquire about: Why aren't human beings kinder to each other, let alone to all sentient beings? Is liberalism, humanism, and nihilism at the root of the meta-crisis? How social media requires a self-enclosed narcissistic humanism to function How do we move beyond humanism into a new cosmological sense of being? Is it possible to install new modes of being in time to confront the planetary challenges facing us? The necessity of existential openings as a portal to self-inquiry Whether we need to administer 'gentle shocks' to help people enter into spiritual crisis as quickly as possible How can we help ensure that instances of emergency and crisis can touch the heart and open the spirit? How do we precipitate mass existential opening? How do we help others encounter the truths of their heart? What Andrew has learned about having skillful philosophical conversations The importance of becoming sensitive in conversation to what Andrew calls 'existential weight' Why we must change our lives according to our existential truths, and the consequences of not doing so What is an adequate new definition of the human being that supports the emergence of a broadly contemplative culture Does wisdom arise from awakening, or does awakening arise from wisdom? What are the most important virtues to be cultivated now, in this time between worlds? Andrew's Home on the Internet --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/emerge/support

For some of us, our aviation dream started with a goal to earn a private pilot certificate. On this week's SimpleFlight Radio episode, you'll meet Andrew Holmes, whose dream was to buy a jet, but knew that the process must start with him learning to fly, and to do so with dedication, patience, and no short-cuts. What Andrew learned during his training, is that flying is a skill that is acquired through practice. What Al and Marc learned about Andrew, is that he is someone who is dedicated to being a safe pilot and brings a significant respect for the learning process, and it goes without saying that if Andrew sets a goal, he will achieve it. With this episode, our goal for you, is to have you ask yourself the question, "Why Not Me?" As always, we love hearing from you and ask you share your ideas with the entire SimpleFlight Facebook and Instagram community @simpleflightradio Thanks for being a part of the SimpleFlight Family!!

My guest this week is Andrew D'Souza, the Co-founder and CEO of Clearbanc, a fundraising alternative to traditional venture capital. The company is based in Toronto and helps businesses fuel their marketing spend – because right now 40% of venture capital invested in companies goes directly to funding Facebook and Google ads. Equity is an expensive way for founders to fund repeatable growth and Clearbanc exists to solve that problem. Here's how it works – Clearbanc gives startups anywhere between $5,000-$10 million and in exchange Clearbanc typically receives a 5% to 10% revenue share of that company's earnings until the funding is paid back plus a 6% fee. Now here's the secret, Clearbanc picks merchants by developing technology that scans the merchants' Stripe payments and Facebook ads and that way they can assess the financial health and momentum of the company. In 2018, Clearbanc poured more than 100 million dollars into 500 companies. SUBSCRIBE TO MY “MONDAY MUSINGS” NEWSLETTER TO KEEP UP WITH THE PODCAST. Something most of my clients tell me they struggle with is time management and always being busy. There’s so much to do and it feels like there’s never enough time to do it. Today we’ll share some of the strategies and tools we use for effective time management, and the impact they’ve had on our lifestyles. Enjoy! What if I told you that there is an entire segment of training that maybe you've never considered? When I first moved to Kelowna, I was introduced to Dr. Andrew Sellars. Dr. Sellars is an anesthesiologist as well as a sports physiology expert. He also is co-founder of Balance Point Racing. When I did my first physiology assessment with Balance Point, I realized that everything I thought I knew about training and had learned from some of the top sports institutions in the US was very limited. The crazy thing that a lot of the assessments are still done using a very old method of measuring all of your physical systems. Balance Point taught me that there are many more factors at play. For example, instead of wondering my wattage was low when I tired, I learned exactly what it was about my body that made me unable to generate higher power - things like how much oxygen was in my muscle, if my heart itself was tired, or if my respiratory system was tired. There's a lot of incredibly important and useful knowledge in this episode if you're interested in taking your training up a notch! Topics Discussed in the Podcast Andrew's background and how he became a doctor What Andrew learned through mentorship with Juerg Feldmann What is a Balance Point Assessment? This episode is very, very special to me. I had the honor of going to visit Andrew in his beautiful center in California here, and it's so incredible. I just feel so excited about sharing him with you because he is such a special person to me. I've been working with Andrew for about 2 years now, working on energy work. He is such a talented healer. What Andrew does, I can't even explain it. He's able to clear energy, move energy, really understand patterns and attachment, and really getting to the root of why we do what we do and why we are stuck in these behaviors and patterns that aren't serving us. He is just an absolute wizard. In this episode, we talked about how to truly access energy in our bodies, which is something that I know we talked about a lot about on the show, but the way that Andrew frames it is so beautiful and really allows us to dig into the part of us that feels calm, and feels safe. So Andrew had a near-death experience which really let him into this whole body of work. He didn't wake up one day, deciding to do this work. He was actually comedian. One day, he was surfing and he got smoked in the head with a surfboard, and he had a spiritual awakening. It's just such a beautiful story. He's such a grounded individual yet has this power to just heal, influence, and just be such a leader for oneness and wholeness. About Andrew At the age of 32, a surfboard bashed into Andrew's head when he was out surfing one day. He was left unconscious in the ocean until a stranger pulled him out and saved his life. Andrew was never the same again. Andrew began to question his identity. He became incredibly present to the world in a way he never experienced before. Andrew took it upon himself to dive deep into healing and discovered his purpose. In this episode, Andrew shares: Learning to access safety in our bodies, so we can use it when fear arises within us. How Andrew's near death experience led him to become a healer. How our childhood protectors have positive and negative impacts on our adult life. How to acknowledge our protectors so they don't control our experience. How shifting our perception allows us to shift our energy. The difference between true discernment and being in resistance. Being intentional and intuitive with the types of coaches and healers you decide to work with. You can find more of Andrew at: Website | Instagram | Facebook

It goes without saying that we have unparalleled opportunities here in the US, but success is unlikely to fall into your lap. So, if you are looking to become a successful multifamily investor, you have to START: Learn to analyze deals properly and get one done. Today, Andrew joins me to share his story, explaining how an article in the Wall Street Journal inspired his real estate career and why he made the transition from pre-foreclosure flips to multifamily. He walks us through his first deal, a 92-unit property in Macon, Georgia, discussing his mistakes around failing to vet investors and underestimating renovation costs. Ahead of a possible Utah medical marijuana ballot initiative in the Fall of 2018—and in light of the LDS Church signaling its opposition to the initiative—Mormon Stories seeks to have an open, facts-based discussion about the medicinal uses of marijuana and the LDS Church's role in the legislative process to prevent its passage in the state of Utah. To begin that conversation, we continue our interview with Andrew Jolley—an entrepreneur in Nevada who started The+Sourcedispensary in 2013 after Nevada passed legislation allowing the use of medicinal marijuana in that state. We cover: *What Andrew learned about the medicinal and societal value of marijuana that lead him to become involved *A historical discussion about the political and cultural motives to making marijuana illegal *The economic impacts seen in the states that have chosen to legalize marijuana use *The medical impacts of the different types of cannabinoids found in marijuana *Efforts made 'behind the scenes' by the LDS Church to oppose the initiative to allow for medicinal marijuana use *What Andrew believes Utahns should do to inform their decision on legalization

This episode shifts us to the science behind running, and beetroot. Beetroot? You heard that right. After listening, you just may want to put it on your next shopping list. We begin by talking about his running records held at an early age and how his running led him to become obsessed with the physiology of distance running. He get into the specifics about his beetroot study. We hear first-hand examples of time spent working with Paula Radcliffe. He discusses his role as the scientific adviser with Nike’s the sub-2 hour project and his reflection to the outcome of it. He shares his experience and what he learned when he visited the Kenyan runners’ camp in Kenya. Today's Guest Andrew Jones Andrew Jones is famous for his study of beetroot as it relates to a runner’s performance. He is a physiologist who has worked with some of the leading distance runners including Paula Radcliffe. His involvement led to huge improvements in her performance. He was the major scientific adviser with Nike’s sub-2 hour marathon project. What You Will Learn About What record Andrew has held for the last 30 years. What Andrew’s involvement was with the Nike sub-2 project. What foods are used as great recovery products. When and how much beet root should be used to see a benefit. Why Andrew says that “the marathon world record is way slower than a human would be potentially be capable of running it.” What Andrew sees as the reasons why Kenyan runners are ranked above the rest. Inspirational Quotes Things like cherry juice are better in recovery and they contain a lot of polyphenols. Taking anti-oxidants and things like polyphenols which are in cherries, also in beet root juice, can sort of help the recovery process a bit. If you consume high nitrate food stuffs you can lower your blood pressure, as well. I’m not saying you should run, you should not have breakfast before you race, but actually in terms of forcing some additional musclar adaptation, it isn’t always a bad thing to get up and to run. You kind of treat your body to, or teach your body to adapt in certain ways by so doing. And you can have your breakfast after you run. Once in a while, I get the rare chance to sit down and talk with a person who is truly happy. Andrew Matthews, a happiness expert and author in Australia, is just one of those people. Frankly, I’ve often been suspicious of ‘happiness experts’. Sometimes such people are secretly tormented, right? But what I learned from Andrew is that a) he’s not actually a happiness ‘expert’ per se. He just likes to think about such things. And b) even happiness experts experience hard times. This made me feel infinitely better! What Andrew does is help us reframe our current situation to get back to more peace, more serenity, and more ease in life. And who doesn’t need this? It’s like a great infusion of joy at just the right moments. He says gratitude is the key. “People often think, ‘When I am happy, then I’ll be grateful.’ But here’s the reality … when I’m grateful, then I’ll be happy.” Here here! Enjoy this stimulating chat. I did! Here’s what I learned: The basic things we must do to turn life around so it becomes easier Why the happiest people also seem to have the biggest problems How his happy neighbor irritated the heck out of him … and what he learned from it The truth about achieving success The ‘X Factor’ that makes all the difference … and how to get it The hardest experience of his life and how he was shaped by it His very personal connection to spirituality The pitfalls of ‘thinking happy thoughts’ Why getting out of your comfort zone is so good for your soul The value of giving others on compliments The place of ‘no other options’ that inspires so much forward action. BIO Millions of people have seen Andrew Matthews speak. His blog, The Being Happy Podcast, is top rated. And he is one of the world’s most widely read self-help authors, His books are best-sellers in the USA, UK, China, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia – and Iran! https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/andrewhill Six months ago, I visited the for a special type of advanced brain scan and brain mapping system called a quantified electroencephalography, or “QEEG”… …and I was shocked at what they discovered in my brain. Dr. Andrew Hill, who oversaw the test and who you may remember from my podcasts “” and “” (and who you also may have seen on , the and beyond) discovered some pretty severe patterns of excess stressful beta waves, excess theta waves, and excess delta waves in my brain. What's that mean? Basically, this suggests that I have had some history of concussions and traumatic brain injury (which I indeed have had, in everything from football to mountain biking to kickboxing), as well as built-up deficits of attention, increased distractibility, limited sleep potential and less-than-optimal cognitive performance from life, travel, toxins, head injuries and beyond. Dr. Hill actually explored much of this in a follow-up article he wrote after my scan, entitled "" After that initial scan, I hopped on a plane to LA, and went back to the Peak Brain Institute for three days of intensive training to fix my brain, and then I returned from LA with a tiny suitcase full of every piece of neurofeedback technology necessary to transform and rewire my brain. In today's episode with Dr. Andrew Hill, who is one the leading neurofeedback practitioners and peak brain performance coaches in the country, a UCLA trained cognitive neuroscientist, lecturer, entrepreneur, avid biohacker, and host of the soon-to-be released podcast – Head First With Dr. Hill (stay tuned as one of the first episodes is with yours truly)… ….you're going to discover exactly what happened to my brain over my 4 months of over 60 sessions of neurofeedback training, how this method of brain fixing blows any other form of electrical brain stimulation out of the water, and how I felt while going through what is essentially like “meditation on steroids”. During our discussion, you'll discover: -What Andrew discovered on my initial brain scan...[9:25] -How I was able to engage in neurofeedback while simultaneously watching Shark Tank...[14:10] -The difference between a "one channel" design and "two channel" design when it comes to how much you're asking of your brain...[25:50] -How you can be "doing other things", like typing, and still also at the same time doing neurofeedback and training your brain...[31:00] -One of Andrew's favorite "kitchen sink" neurofeedback protocols for sleeping like a baby, improving mood, and increasing focus...[33:00] -How to use neurofeedback to reset alcohol and marijuana tolerance with just one single session...[42:20] -The shocking results of the second scan that Andrew and I did...[50:15] -And much more! Andrew now speaks on the topic to support others that are struggling. Andrews' life has been filled with traumatic events that haunted him into adulthood. These events almost cost him his life and his family. Andrew was raised around prostitution, experienced war, attempted to take his own life and to top it all off... He had to testify in court against his own mother for murder after she asked him to frame someone else. It was the haunting of these memories that almost cost him the family he created. After realizing that he almost lost his family he began to face the ghosts from his past that were haunting him. He successfully overcame all of these events and now uses them as lessons to teach his audiences and private clients. He is now one of the most requested speakers by the U.S. Military and the mental health field. He has been featured on over 70 media stations around the world, some to include: USA Today, MSNBC, MTV, BBC, NHK World, Huffington Post, Al Jazeera America and many more. Andrew is now married and a proud father of two, living on a piece of land in Central Texas.
