Min 5: UN FUNERAL DE LOCOS (3 estrellas) "Un funeral de locos" es una comedia española de 2025 dirigida por Manuel Gómez Pereira. La película es una adaptación de la cinta británica Death at a Funeral (2007), escrita por Dean Craig, con guion adaptado por Yolanda García Serrano. The town also holds personal significance for Charlie; he grew up there. Nora is a literary agent and Charlie an editor, which not only gives them a ton in common but is grounds for their enmity. In Sunshine Falls, the Goode Books Store is a focal point, representing the literary charm of the town and serves as the backdrop for many scenes.  While it was a manuscript that made them dislike each other, it's another one that brings them together. Nora first met Charlie when pitching the blunt editor a manuscript she felt passionate about; he rebuffs her and criticizes the work. They both have their heels dug in that the other is wrong and has no taste, but as they collaborate on Dusty Fielding's latest work, they begin to bond. Northrop, a cornerstone of the NBC Peacock series, passed away at the age of 77. His wife of 43 years, Lynn Herring, a fellow soap icon known for her role as Lucy Coe on General Hospital, shared the news of his passing. Northrop's portrayal of Roman Brady from 1981 to 1984 and again from 1991 to 1994 left an indelible mark on Days of Our Lives.  After his exit from DOOL, the role was taken over by Josh Taylor. Northrop also made a return to the soap in a new role as Dr. Alex North from 2005 to 2006. His death follows the recent losses of other Days of Our Lives' stalwarts, including John Aniston and Drake Hogestyn. Este pasado verano, se nos quedó pendiente de publicar este episodio con el que retomamos el género de fantasía con una película de espada y brujería que, a pesar de sus múltiples virtudes, entre las que destaca el fabuloso dragón Vermithrax y la banda sonora de Alex North, no es tan recordada como otras similares de la época. Y eso que fue precursora de muchas de ellas. “El Dragón del Lago de Fuego” (81), dirigida y co-guionizada por Matthew Robbins, es toda una joyita por descubrir. Nominada a dos Óscar por los efectos visuales y la banda sonora, co-producida por Paramount y Disney, pertenece a esa “edad de bronce” o “edad oscura” de la compañía del ratón, en la que se permitieron ser más arriesgados y valientes, sin que los resultados gozaran del reconocimiento en taquilla que muchos de estos productos se merecían. Basándose en cuentos antiguos, en la mitología existente, en otras películas anteriores y en la literatura previa, con especial mención a la obra de Tolkien, Matthew Robbins y Hal Barwood construyen un cuento oscuro con magos, campesinos, reyes, guerreros, princesas y, por supuesto, un dragón. Un dragón que surca el cielo, animado con avanzadas técnicas de stop motion y go-motion, construido con enormes animatrónicos y con una ambientación y escenarios de lo más efectiva. A lo largo de este episodio, desarrollamos todos estos aspectos, al tiempo que desglosamos la trama de la película y reflexionamos acerca de diferentes cuestiones que se derivan de la misma. Por supuesto, sin olvidarnos de hablar del elenco, mezcla de veteranos y nóveles, con un curtido Ralph Richardson y un debutante Peter MacNicol, como duplo ganador, escoltados por una joven Caitlin Clarke y con la presencia de Chloe Salaman, ejerciendo de trágica princesa Disney. Para iluminarnos en esta tarea, contamos con un highlander especialmente erudito y versado en las artes místicas, el historiador Manuel Jesús Segado Uceda. Asimismo, el paladín Óscar Cabrera aporta su voluntarismo y torpe pasión, mientras que el regio Juan Pablo Molina, nuestro videoclubsero, ruge y brama contenidos. Episode 61 : A Special Tribute to Composer Gerald Fried As time goes by, we lose some of the amazingly talented people who worked with Stanley during his film career, and we recently lost composer/conductor, Gerald Fried, February 17th 2023 to be precise, at the grand old age of 95. We spoke to Gerald in late 2018 when he was just 90 years young. He was one of the earliest collaborators of Stanley Kubrick, dating back to the very early 1950s. Gerald Fried, a native New Yorker, had scored almost 300 films and television shows in a career spanning over 70 years. His movie scores include such varied titles as Machine Gun Kelly for Roger Corman, Jack Nicholson's first feature film The Cry Baby Killer, The Killing of Sister George, Too Late The Hero & The Grisson Gang, all three for director Robert Aldrich. His TV credits include some of the most popular shows being produced at the time including M Squad, Wagon Train, Gunsmoke, Gilligan's Island, The Man From Uncle, Mission Impossible, Lost In Space, Police Woman and Star Trek! He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Music with an Original Dramatic Score for the feature-length documentary Birds Do It, Bees Do it at the 1976 Academy Awards, up against several other notable composers with memorable scores. The Wind and the Lion from Jerry Goldsmith, Jack Nitzsche's One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Bite The Bullet by Alex North, and the winner that year was……… John Williams for probably the most famous movie score of all time… JAWS. So Gerald was in great company that night. Gerald also won an Emmy for his work with Quincy Jones on the ground-breaking mini-series Roots from 1977. Having composed the scores for five of Stanley Kubrick's earliest films, Gerald is one of Kubrick's most frequent collaborators. Fried and Kubrick first worked together as a composer & director partnership, both at the age of just 23, on the short film Day of the Fight back in 1951, followed by four feature films, Fear & Desire, Killer's Kiss, The Killing and Paths of Glory. We released about 30 minutes of this interview back in January 2020, but now we present to you the entire three-hour interview in honour and respect of the late great, Mr. Gerald Fried. Synopsis Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto was first performed on today's date in 1881. The premiere took place in Vienna with Adolf Brodsky the violin soloist and the Vienna Philharmonic led by Hans Richter. It was not a big hit. The next day, the conservative Viennese critic Eduard Hanslick wrote: "The violin is no longer played: it is tugged about, torn, beaten black and blue." According to Hanslick, the concerto's finale (quote): "transports us to the brutal and wretched jollity of a Russian festival. We see gross and savage faces, hear crude curses, and smell the booze... Tchaikovsky's Concerto confronts us for the first time with the hideous idea that there may be musical compositions whose stink one can hear." Ouch! Tchaikovsky's score survived the bad review, but a more recent American work suffered a far unkinder cut. The original film score for the 1968 blockbuster movie, "2001: A Space Odyssey" was written by Alex North, who was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on today's date in 1910. Director Stanley Kubrick hired North to write the music for "2001," but Kubrick ultimately decided to use pre-recorded classical and contemporary music instead. When North attended the New York premiere of "2001," he was devastated that not one minute of the music he had written was included in the final edit. Believe it or not, no one had informed him in advance!
