Freedomination is a metal band formed in Vantaa, Finland in 2008. Over the years, the band has released four self-published works and has become renowned for its energetic performances in the Finnish metal scene. After a period of inactivity since 2017, they returned to the stage in 2022 with a new lineup and have now released their debut album, 'Until the Lights Go Out'. Freedomination's music blends elements of thrash metal, progressive metal, traditional heavy metal, and punk rock. The band's musical influences are firmly rooted in old-school North American and British metal, though they deliberately avoid a “retro” sound. Instead, the focus is on timeless expression, and the band's sound is undeniably contemporary. Musically and lyrically, the album visits many territories while maintaining a clear course on the ‘Sin Road'. Fans of old school heavy metal and thrash metal (Annihilator, Megadeth, Iron Maiden etc.) are in for a treat. We spoke to vocalist/guitarist Timo Ahlström and drummer Jukka Ahlström about the new album. Learning more about the process behind its creation, the journey to its release, their roles in making it a reality, and so much more. Training camp for the New Orleans Saints begins in less than 2 weeks (rookie report next week), and we have plenty of questions about this team. Will Alvin Kamara return for the start? Will the offensive line overperform their low expectations? How hot is the seat of Coach Dennis Allen? But even with all that, there are reasons one could be optimistic … what are they? Summer break is over, and Jim Derry is back. He is joined on Friday's Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 252) presented by Evangeline Securities by sports writer Hart Pisani, who also shares details of his new podcast, “When the Lights Go Out.” And in the ‘Extra Point,' Jim loves the gesture by Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen sent out to fans of the team.

Welcome to Season 4 of Dragonfly Tales, a story podcast for children (and grown ups) of all ages. It's our Halloween Special!!!!!!   Wooooooo!   And we have some treats in store for you – or are they tricks? As with our previous Halloween shows, Leo is going to tell a story that's not too scary.  And I'll tell one that is a bit more scaryWe also thought we would tickle your funny bone with some spooky Halloween jokes from our listeners!  Huge thanks to Marcus Zoe, George, Sharon, Mila, Tom, Will and Jakey!!Leo's story is a ghost story from England.   You can find this story and lots more like it in this excellent book by Margaret Read MacDonald 'When the Lights Go Out!' Emily's  story is from Norway.  And many people believe the story is true.  There is a lake in Norway called Whale lake Because in this lake have been discovered the huge bones of what was once a mighty whale that terrorized the fjords and seas around Norway and greenland Hundreds of years ago, sailors would hunt wales for their blubber.  They would melt the blubber down into oil that was then used for street lights, cosmetics and explosives.  Whale hunting was incredibly dangerous and there are lots of songs about about it – as sailors would spend very long times at sea, making up stories, singing songs and crafting.  You can find out more about it HERE.If you would like to tell a tale or get a SHOUT OUT this season, then you can get in touch with us HERE or in our Dragonfly Tales Podcast Group, telling us your first name, your age and your town. And if you like our podcast, please leave us a review (Apple is great). If you would like to donate a little something towards our podcast, we would be so grateful.  You can donate to Dragonfly Tales Podcast by clicking here: DONATEYou may start to hear some adverts on our podcast.  We know this can be annoying, but it really helps to keep us going.  We will always try to choose adverts that we feel are appropriate for our content. You can also follow us on:InstagramFacebook andTwitterThanks for listening! Theme Music by Leo Grazebrook on GarageBandStorytelling and singing by Emily Hanna-Grazebrook and Leo at Dragonfly TalesProduced by Andy GrazebrookArt by Light CreativeSound effects by Zapsplat

JOHN VERCHER chats to Paul Burke about his new novel AFTER THE LIGHTS GO OUT, identity, racism, Mixed Marshal Arts, mental health - CTE/Alzheimer's and carers, noir/tragedy and propulsive storytelling, and fear for the dog (Loki) AFTER THE LIGHTS GO OUT: How do you save yourself when you're the person you trust least of all? Xavier "Scarecrow" Wallace is a biracial Black MMA fighter on the wrong side of thirty, who is facing the comeback fight of his life. He is also losing his battle with pugilistic dementia- a struggle he can no longer deny.In the nursing home of his father, a white man suffering from Alzheimer's, Xavier witnesses shocking episodes that expose ugly truths about his past and his family. And as the big fight draws near, a sparring session with a younger competitor goes horribly wrong, leaving Xavier faced with a dangerous dilemma: throw his match or suffer the deadly consequences. After the Lights Go Out is a propulsive exploration of biracial identity, the price that athletes pay to entertain, and one man's battle to reconcile his past- even when he can't hold on to his present.John Vercher lives in the Philadelphia area with his wife and two sons. He has a Bachelor's in English from the University of Pittsburgh and an MFA in Creative Writing from the Mountainview Master of Fine Arts program. He is a contributing writer for WBUR Boston's Cognoscenti, and NPR features his essays on race, identity, and parenting.
