More than a decade ago, a petition calling for Sandy Bay to be officially declared a nudist beach made headlines, arguing that formal recognition could help protect beachgoers and address concerns around harassment, exploitation and safety. Today, Sandy Bay remains an unofficial space, raising questions about what became of that petition and why designated naturist spaces still matter. Lester Kiewit speaks to naturist Juanita Pretorius and Marthinus Pretorius, both involved in organising the World Naked Bike Ride in Cape Town and active in initiatives promoting body positivity, people positivity and planet positivity. They reflect on the growth of the naturist community over the past decade, the social and environmental values that underpin it, and Marthinus shares insights from his research into South Africa’s constitutional approach to expression through nudity, exploring whether the country’s legal framework has kept pace with changing attitudes. Ep. 393 Matt Lowe fills in while Ken takes his wife to wine country this week. They discuss Don Lemon tells Liberals to arm themselves, Katie Porter's temper, locking up an illegal immigrant cop, “Let's Go Brandon” shirts, male gaze, an escapee in Columbus Day, George Santos gets out of prison, and Epstein's flight manifests. Headlines & High Finance Epstein Flight Manifest: The names are out! Dave and Matt scroll through 118 pages, noting high-profile passengers including Prince Andrew, Bill Clinton, Alan Dershowitz, and Donald Trump (accompanied by his wife and daughter on a trip in the mid-90s). Political Backflips: The crew discusses Don Lemon, a self-described liberal, advocating for citizens—specifically black and brown people—to legally arm themselves to resist government overreach (like ICE raids), claiming this is the exact purpose of the Second Amendment. Katie Porter Rage: Democratic Representative Katie Porter is scrutinized for screaming “Get out of my effing shot” and dealing with accusations of abusive behavior toward her staff as she runs for Governor of California. George Santos Commuted: George Santos' sentence for wire fraud and identity theft was commuted, sparking discussion about his personality and legal troubles in the U.S. and Brazil. Sports, Status & Shopping Gators Coaching Hot Seat: Speculation mounts over whether the Florida Gators will fire coach Billy Napier during their upcoming bye week, coinciding with the Florida-Georgia game tradition. The Birkin Bag Bandit: Matt shares the shock of his eight-year-old, self-proclaimed "bougiest kid," asking for a $100,000 Birkin bag for Christmas after previously requesting a Louis Vuitton bag. Life in the Fast Lane: Dave ribs Matt about his wife's transformation into a luxury traveler, refusing to fly anywhere without first class seats and Sky Club access following a vacation together. JD Pritsker's Winnings: Illinois Governor JD Pritsker disclosed over a million dollars in gambling winnings on his tax returns, which he lightheartedly attributed to "a good day at the casino." Controversies & Chaos ICE Arrests Officer: A police officer in Hover Park, Illinois, originally from Montenegro, was arrested by ICE after it was discovered he overstayed his tourist visa from 2015. GDC Trouble: Discussion on the ongoing problems within the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC), including inmates walking off work details (like a recent case in Carol County) and high levels of corruption involving cash exchanged in fast-food bags. Let's Go Brandon Ban: A Federal Court of Appeals upheld a Michigan high school's ban on "Let's Go Brandon" shirts, a decision the hosts believe the school will regret for drawing more attention to the protest slogan. The Male Gaze is Back: The hosts react to CNN's declaration that the "male gaze" has returned, connecting it to Victoria's Secret returning to hot models and the cultural response to figures like Sydney Sweeney. Portland Nude Bike Protest: Matt and Dave discuss the bizarre World Naked Bike Ride in Portland, held to protest pollution and raise awareness for cyclist vulnerability, but mostly serving as a shocking display against the National Guard. Ambler Road Project: Matt's closing thoughts focus on the federal Ambler Road project in Alaska, which he urges listeners to oppose due to foreign entities being slated to drill oil for shipment to China.
Portland organizers are planning an “emergency” World Naked Bike Ride in response to the federal government's decision to deploy National Guard troops to the city.⚡ About 200 soldiers are preparing at Camp Rilea as legal challenges from Oregon officials—including Governor Tina Kotek and Attorney General Dan Rayfield—seek to block the deployment.

Portland's got a robust cycling community, which is epitomized by the annual World Naked Bike Ride. But this year, things are getting a little complicated: Portland is set to host two naked bike rides, just weeks apart. And let's just say, there's some tension over which one counts as the real naked bike ride and how we ended up here in the first place. Today on City Cast Portland, Willamette Week arts and culture reporter Rachel Saslow joins executive producer John Notarianni to break it all down. The traditional World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) in Portland was officially canceled earlier this summer due to planning delays and volunteer burnout, leaving many disappointed. However, a new group of organizers has stepped up to ensure the event continues, scheduling a ride for this Saturday, September 21. In keeping with the traditional focus of the WNBR, this year's event will once again serve as a protest against fossil fuel dependency, with a special focus on Zenith Energy and its role in Portland's fossil fuel infrastructure.Read the original article at www(dot)planetnude(dot)co This is a public episode. The World Naked Bike Ride is a very popular naturist event. This series of rides happens annually in cities all across the country. Mike and Linda from Star Ranch loaded up their E-bikes and traveled from Texas to St. Louis to participate in that city's ride. They tell us what it was like to pedal clothes-free through a city that rolls out the welcome mat for nudists. Mike and Linda are also very active in the Christian Naturists group and give us a recap of that group's visit to Star Ranch this past summer!Send us a text

In recent months, a disturbing trend has emerged in various cities across the United States: fraudulent World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) events being advertised online, only to leave hopeful participants in the lurch. These deceptive listings, often linked to a man named Stephen Franks, have caused significant confusion and frustration among the WNBR community.Read the original article at www(dot)planetnude(dot)co This is a public episode.

Val and Faith are back in the studio for 2024 and kick things off with a catch up on some of the local news over the summer break. We start by sharing our bike moments and for both of us they seem to resolve around red traffic lights and those magic moments when they turn green! Over the weekend a solidarity ride for the Gaza Sunbirds was organised by An Other Collective in Melbourne and Sydney as part of a world wide show of support. You can find out more about the Gaza Sunbirds at their website and donate to support their actions in Gaza providing aid.Darebin Council is holding a special meeting on Monday to consider a recision motion on some safety improvements for Soth Crescent and Newcastle Streets in Darebin. Take a look at the Streets Alive Darebin page for all the background on this and updated information on the original motion and the recision motion. Southside, in Glen Eira, the LXRP are planning to remove 100+ mature trees to build a protected bike lane. On a wide street with plenty os space for pedestrians, parking, moving vehicles, and protected bike lanes it seems incredible that these trees can't be saved. Especially when they are so important to those using active transport modes. You can read more on Glen Eira BUG's Facebook page. And who. could have missed it, but just in case you did, the Walmer Street bridge has re-opened! It has been a sage and much of that saga well documented by Yarra BUG Radio but the bridge is finally done! For now. In bad news, the Footscray Road shared path is now indefinietly closed due to the state government's inability to safely manage truck traffic. What do they do in the rest of the world we wonder? It's a mystery. And from the United States, the War on Cars dive into the horrendous increase in pedestrian fatalities and the uptake of SUVs. Two dates to put in your diary for 2024 have already been anounced: Feburary 25th will see a welcome summer edition of the World Naked Bike Ride in Melbourne and Sunday June 30th is set for the next Melburn Roobaix.
Wisconsin has historically lacked state anti-nudity laws, but recent legislative bills are causing concern among naturists. These bills aim to criminalize public nudity, particularly the World Naked Bike Ride, and restrict minors from events involving adult nudity. If passed, they could lead to Class A misdemeanor charges with fines of up to $10,000 and nine months in prison. Simultaneously, Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has proposed rule amendments, partly related to the closure of Mazomanie Beach in 2016, that threaten to ban nudity on state lands. These changes, separate from the legislative bills, could essentially criminalize public nudity statewide. The combination of these legal shifts poses a significant challenge to naturists in the state.
A recent study named Philadelphia the best city in the U.S. for naked biking - and the city's annual Naked Bike Ride makes a good case. With over 1,000 riders, it's part of the World Naked Bike Ride, and the largest one on the east coast. But…why do people do this? There's more to it than novelty - the Philly Naked Bike Ride makes a statement about body positivity and fuel reduction. Sabrina Boyd-Surka talks with some of the organizers and gets a glimpse at the “protest party” on wheels. Photo courtesy of the Philly Naked Bike Ride. See more photos of the ride here. Jim Rutledge is re-joined by co-host Matt Hamilton who is back after his big win in the celebrity division of the BMW Charity Pro Am on the Korn Ferry Tour. They celebrate Matt's win before revisiting the show topics while Matt was out last week in a new edition of "What Matt Missed." Then, usual producer Alex Strouf sits in for one segment to talk about which of these three would be most likely to participate when the upcoming World Naked Bike Ride rolls through Madison.
On this week's roundup, workers at the former CUNA Mutual group (now called TruStage) launch the biggest strike Madison's seen in a decade. Val and Faith kick off the show with the bike moments: a ride along the new section of the MTM Rail Trail from Yackandandah to Beechworth and joy sparked by a reminder of an old school component maker. We take a look at the statement from the Victorian Government on the death of Angus Collins on the Footscray Road protected shared path which you can read here, and recommend you read John Symon's from Bike West's article on safe system design and the shortcomings in its adoption in Victoria. We also celebrate ten years of Melbourne Bike Rave and eighteen years of World Naked Bike Ride in Melbourne. We take a look at the Brunswick LXRP Project and the opportunities and challenges this will provide. Initial local consultation is underway here with more consultation to come from the LXRP themselves. And finally a reminder about some local events: the important Critical Mass Ride Footscray edition to protest the lack of safe routes in the west of Melbourne is coming up this Friday February 24th and on Sunday March 5th the Vintage Cycling Club are hosting a Lazy Sunday Ride.
On this weeks program Chris interviews Robert Lechte about his recent Crikey article: Cyclists' road deaths are a national health emergency.
