I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Tuesday, January 19, 2021. This update is sponsored by IndyWrestling.us. Results from Monday Night's Raw and Ring Of Honor's weekend TV are straight ahead in this update but first… WWE Champion Drew McIntyre announcing Monday he'll be back on Raw NEXT Monday night. McIntyre is quarantining after he tested positive for COVID-19. WWE also promoting Goldberg for next Monday - the final Raw before the Royal Rumble, where Goldberg will challenge McIntyre for the WWE title. Newly declared entrants for the Royal Rumble matches: Jeff Hardy, Peyton Royce and Alexa Bliss. Speaking of Bliss...she scored a BIG win in the main event of last night's Raw - pinning the Raw Women's Champion Asuka. It was a non-title match. Alexa seemingly transformed mid-match into a more evil version of herself...absorbed some powerful strikes from Asuka...and then hit Sister Abigail for the win. As for Randy Orton - one week after Bliss blasted him with a fireball to the face... Orton appeared backstage in a dark room, wearing a mask, at the start of Raw. AJ Styles beat Ricochet after an eye-popping reversal into a Styles Clash. Ricochet was hoping to prove that he deserves a spot in the Royal Rumble. Shayna Baszler tapped out Mandy Rose. Shayna and Nia Jax are NOT getting along. The Hurt Business beat Riddle and the Lucha House Party. Cedrix Alexander and Shelton Benjamin are NOT getting along either. Charlotte Flair submitted Peyton Royce. Ric Flair showed up along with Lacey Evans - who was wearing one of Ric's robes - but their distraction was ineffective. Also, Mace from Retribution beat Xavier Woods. (STINGER: Impact) Tonight's Impact Wrestling has fallout from last Saturday's Hard To Kill pay per view. Plus, Eric Young vs. Rhino...and Kimber Lee & Susan vs. Jordynne Grace & Jazz. Four-time former Knockouts Champion ODB says she's returning to Impact. (ODB Impact Return) ODB speaking with Chris Van Vliet. She said we can expect to see her in Impact “soon”. (STINGER: AEW) Tonight's AEW Dark has 14 matches. Among them, Santana & Ortiz vs. Danny Limelight & Jon Cruz…”Dragon vs. Dinosaur”: Brandon Cutler vs. Luchasaurus...plus, the Lucha Bros. are in action. Bullet Club's Tama Tonga blasting The Elite yet again - and the Bullet Club imagery recently seen on AEW and Impact TV. (Tama Blasts The Elite) That clip from a video tweeted by Tama as he promoted his Tama's Island podcast which is streaming on Twitch tonight. By the way, New Japan is wrapping up three straight days at Korakuen Hall this morning with another Road To The New Beginning show. (STINGER: ROH) Dragon Lee is still the Ring Of Honor TV champion. He survived a tough challenge from Rey Horus on ROH's weekend TV. Also on that show, Flip Gordon pinned Rhett Titus in a Pure Rules. But because he punched Rhett in the face during the match - on top of other past behavior - Flip is now SUSPENDED from the Pure Division. Ring Of Honor's “Week By Week” YouTube show today will have a Gauntlet Match involving students from the ROH Dojo. The winner gets a shot at Jonathan Gresham's Pure Title. It'll be Joe Keys vs. Dante Caballero vs. Ken Dixon vs. Eric Martin. That's JUST Pro Wrestling News for Tuesday, January 19. Our next update comes your way tomorrow morning. Results from Monday Night Raw are straight ahead in this update but first… The big story looming over last night's show - WWE Champion Drew McIntyre testing positive for COVID-19. (McIntyre COVID) Part of McIntyre's pre-recorded comments that aired on last night's Raw. He said he hopes to be back soon. WWE also made it official..that McIntyre will defend his title against Goldberg at the Royal Rumble. In the ring, Triple H filled the opening in the main event - his first match on Raw since 2016…he brawled with Randy Orton for about 5 minutes. Then, the lights started to go out. Roman Reigns chastised Jey Uso for his failures; an unhinged Uso unleashed a chair assault on Otis An enthusiastic Jey Uso opened SmackDown to praise Universal Champion Roman Reigns for his win against WWE Champion Drew McIntyre at Survivor Series. However, when The Big Dog emerged with Paul Heyman at his side, he proceeded to chastise Jey relentlessly for his “failures” and for letting down his entire family at Survivor Series. Reigns then walked out on his cousin and left him to his perceived disgrace. In response, Jey Uso became completely unhinged. As Otis was entering for his match against King Corbin, Uso, who teamed with Otis in a losing effort at Survivor Series, unleashed a vicious chair assault on "The Blue-collar Bulldozer." Kevin Owens def. Jey Uso by disqualification After Jey Uso attacked Daniel Bryan moments after Bryan's match, Kevin Owens confronted Universal Champion Roman Reigns about the ongoing “family issues” and said The Big Dog treated his family like “trash.” In response, Reigns told Uso to fix the situation, and a main event match was made between Jey and KO. Uso once again grabbed the chair and earned a disqualification, intent on making Owens fear the family, but KO struck back with a Stunner. Then, Owens turned the tables on Uso by unleashing a brutal chair onslaught of his own. The whole time, Owens taunted Reigns to come find him as the Big Dog watched from a monitor. KO helped himself to a seat at the end of the announce table -- symbolizing himself as the head of the table -- and made it clear that he would be watching for the Universal Champion. On an action-packed Season Premiere of Monday Night Raw, WWE Champion Drew McIntyre broke into Hell in a Cell to confront Randy Orton ahead of their bout inside the structure this Sunday. Plus, The Fiend & Alexa Bliss made a frightening statement to the red brand, AJ Styles introduced his towering associate and Jeff Hardy crashed Elias' concert. https://anchor.fm/jesse-markes https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/markesinwheelchair-1371389 https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/markesinwheelchair/id1524667030 https://anchor.fm/jesse-markes/support https://markespodcast.blogspot.com https://www.facebook.com/groups/markespodcast/?notif_id=1598883943162363¬if_t=group_invited_to_group&ref=notif https://www.stitcher.com/s?eid=77348908 https://www.breaker.audio/markesinwheelchair-1 share with your friends #markesinwheelchair https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-markesinwheelchair-69193952/ #india #uk #usa #canada #russia #unitedstates The season premiere of Monday Night Raw began with a bone-chilling moment, as Alexa Bliss arrived with a warning: “He's here.” With those words, The Fiend stalked his way to the ring inside the WWE ThunderDome and took Bliss by the hand. But the group known as RETRIBUTION charged the ring and surrounded the squared circle. Just as Mustafa Ali was about to unleash his crew, the lights went out in the WWE ThunderDome, and The Fiend & Bliss disappeared. RETRIBUTION's night was just beginning, though, as The Hurt Business arrived for their Eight-Man Tag Team Match. United States Champion Bobby Lashley was on fire from the opening bell, as he steamrolled T-BAR and SLAPJACK. But RETRIBUTION would not be kept down, as Mustafa Ali pummeled Cedric Alexander. Lashley cinched in the Hurt Lock on T-BAR, who tapped out to give The Hurt Business the victory. But as soon as the bell rang, both factions learned that something more malevolent is waiting in the wings. The lights were cut out once again, and when they came back on, The Fiend was there. The Fiend bulldozed through most of RETRIBUTION, as Ali escaped after T-BAR went after the terrifying Superstar. When he was through with RETRIBUTION, The Fiend turned his attention to The Hurt Business, perhaps letting them – and the rest of Raw – know that this is his playground now. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jesse-markes/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jesse-markes/support

Breaking News development from Wednesday night. A clock has been ordered for Adam Cole. Cole is the NXT Champion and WWE issued a Tick Tock to him on Twitter. Karrion Kross replied with a YES. This means WWE is creating a match between Kross and Cole for the next NXT Takeover. Adam Cole responded that everyone is gunning for him because he is the champ. He stated that he is not scared of Karrion Kross and “to go play Halloween somewhere else.”Finn Balor vs. Keith Lee for the North American Championship.Back to Backlash…Backlash is the upcoming event that is scheduled this Sunday with all the matches taking place at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. While the majority of the event will be aired live, the match between Edge and Randy Orton was pre-recorded on June 7. This will be the 15th event of Backlash. It first started in 1999 when Stone Cold Steve Austin retained the WWF championship belt by defeating The Rock in a No Holds Barred Match. Shane McMahon was a special guest referee. Backlash would eventually stop in 2009 and restart in 2016 when AJ Styles defeated (then) Dean Ambrose to become the new WWE Champion. Also, Becky Lynch won the six-pack elimination challenge to become the first WWE Smackdown Women's Champion over Alexa Bliss, Carmella, Naomi, Natalya, and Nikki Bella. This year's backlash has a built-in tension in each of the match cards. As we get set to make our predictions, here are the following matches:Edge vs. Randy OrtonAt Royal Rumble, WWE Hall of Famer Edge, who was forced to retire in 2011 due to a neck injury, returned during the Royal Rumble match and eliminated Randy Orton; Edge was soon be eliminated by Roman Reigns. The feud became very personal and Edge defeated Orton in a Last Man Standing match during WrestleMania 36. About a month later, Orton said that the better man won at WrestleMania, but questioned Edge if the better wrestler had actually won. The two times they encountered each other were non-traditional matches. Orton challenged Edge to a normal singles match at Backlash; Edge accepted the following week. WWE is calling the match as "The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever".Drew McIntyre vs. Bobby Lashley for the WWE ChampionshipOn the May 11 episode of Raw, (MVP) approached Bobby Lashley backstage and praised him on his victory from earlier that night. However, he questioned why Lashley was facing a mid-carder while King Corbin was being invited over from SmackDown to face WWE Champion Drew McIntyre in a non-title match. MVP noted that Lashley had not had a WWE Championship opportunity since 2007 and questioned when Lashley would show his true self. Lashley then aligned himself with MVP, which also enraged Lashley's wife Lana. The following week, Lashley and MVP observed McIntyre's match against Corbin from the stage. After McIntyre defeated Corbin, McIntyre stated he wanted to face Lashley, who was held back by MVP. On the May 25 episode, it was confirmed that McIntyre would defend the WWE Championship against Lashley at Backlash.Braun Strowman vs. The Miz & John Morrison in a Handicap Match for the Universal Championship. At Money in the Bank, Braun Strowman defeated Bray Wyatt to retain the Universal Championship. On the following episode of SmackDown, Strowman teamed with Mr. Money in the Bank Otis to defeat The Miz and John Morrison. The following week, Miz and Morrison criticized Strowman for teaming with Otis (whom they made fun of the week prior) and then stated their loss the previous week was unfair. Miz taunted Strowman about his match with Wyatt and questioned if Wyatt was actually finished with Strowman. Morrison then seemingly issued a challenge for Miz to face Strowman, who accepted and defeated Miz. Following the match, Morrison challenged Strowman to defend the Universal Championship against himself and Miz in a handicap match at Backlash, which was made official.Asuka vs. Nia JaxAt Money in the Bank, Asuka won the women's Money in the Bank ladder match. The following night on Raw, Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch revealed that she was pregnant and announced a hiatus for maternity leave and that the ladder match was actually for the title instead of a contract that granted a championship match, thus Asuka became the new Raw Women's Champion. On the May 25 episode, Nia Jax, who was also in the ladder match, defeated Charlotte Flair and Natalya in a triple threat match to become the number one contender against Asuka for the title at Backlash.Jeff Hardy vs. SheamusThis feud took a wild turn with Sheamus setting up Jeff Hardy to make it look as if he was not only driving under the influence but took out Elias with the car as well. This heated rivalry will reach the next stage now with the two set to meet one-on-one at Backlash. Women's Tag Team Championship Triple Threat MatchBayley & Sasha Bank vs. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs. The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce)Banks and Bayley managed to win the titles from Cross and Bliss on the June 5 edition of SmackDown. The win kicked off their second reign as champions and further built on the cracks showing between the best friends with Banks having to save the team after Bayley attempted to steal the glory. The IIconics returned to action in May, immediately challenging then-champs Cross and Bliss and picking up a non-title win. In the title match that followed, a mid-match temper tantrum led to a disqualification. - Winner will defend the title against Shotzi Blackheart and Tegon Nox at NXT Wednesday night. United States ChampionshipApollo Crews vs. AndradeThe rivalry between these two men will be renewed at Backlash. Andrade took Crews out of Money in the Bank, injuring his knee in a United States title match in the lead to the pay-per-view. Crews would come back to win the belt off Andrade, winning a major championship for the first time during his WWE run. Andrade earned a shot to get his title back by winning a triple threat match against Angel Garza and Kevin Owens on the June 8 edition of Raw.
