If you've listened to radio, read a newspaper or watched TV, Lee Abrams has affected your life. He has been a pioneer in all areas of media, particularly radio. He co-founded XM Satellite radio, created the FM Rock radio listening format, advised Rolling Stone Magazine as well as major artists like Eric Clapton, Yes and Iron Maiden. Lee gives us an amazing look into how and why he and a small group created Satellite radio, why AM radio was lacking, and how FM radio, which was a dormant medium, blew up the old, tired AM radio playbook and was turned into the massive influence it became. And Lee's take on the future of radio and TV news will blow you away.
In this entertainment industry-themed episode, Carter chats with panelists Christian Toto and Kevin Downey, Jr. about the left's reaction to Elon's purchase of Twitter, Nina Jankowicz and Biden's new "Disinformation Governance Board," the woke infestation of Hollywood, Netflix's recent subscriber woes, Rotten Tomatoes' increasingly obvious bias, the harm that trans activism has done to legitimate trans people and the gay community generally, Johnny Depp's defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard, and how each of us can help fight the culture war. I met Ross Davies briefly on two occasions. Once in Montreal in the 90's and a second time in the 2000's again in Montreal. It was little more than a "Hi! How Are You?' but there was work to be done and the radio stories were going to have to come later. Fast forward to 2018 and we finally got to have that chat. Ross spent a good chunk of his career working for CHUM in the programming, operations and senior management positions. We went back to the beginning where he started his career with Moffatt Communications. He moved to Toronto in 1979 has worked with Standard Radio, Canadian Satellite Radio, Astral Media Radio and (as mentioned) CHUM Ltd. More recently, Ross served as Director of Member Engagement/Radio for Numeris, the leading provider ratings to broadcasters and advertisers. Ross was also part of the executive team at XM Satellite radio that launched Canada's first satellite radio service in 2005. (The merger with Sirius came much later) We also dug into him co-creating the original Jack/Bob variety hits format with the launch of Bob-FM in Winnipeg in the spring of 2002.Ross is putting together some of the radio panels at Canadian Music Week this year and provided some intel into what we can expect May 20-22 when it all takes place. He also welcomes your feedback so shoot him an e-mail - but only after you listen to what he has shared. Special Guest: Celebrated Harpist Peter Sterling’s life is a reminder to all who offer themselves as an open vessel for the Divine, that there’s no stop button once Spirit unleashes its creativity. Peter’s response to his heavenly calling 25 years ago, blossomed into an endlessly-creative multi-media career, spanning 16 studio albums, numerous Music Awards, a book called Hearing the Angels Sing, and an impressive series of crystal- frosted Mandala art prints enough to fill a gallery. Peter also creates sacred geometry Stained Glass art, and presents dynamic workshops on the science of sound healing & sacred geometry.Success came quickly for Peter, when the music label “World Disc” released his first album Harp Magic which was nominated in 1994 for NAIRD’s (now A2IM) Best String Album Award. In 2004 Sterling’s album Hap Dreams sat at the top of New Age Radio’s Top 100 for 8 weeks and garnered a Album of the Year nomination. In 2005 peter signed on with renowned new age music label Real Music to release his Shadow,Mist and Light cd. Peter’s self released 2008 effort The Sands of Time earned a nomination for a Hollywood Music Award for Best New Age Album. His 2012 release Patterns of Reflection soared to #1 on the ZMR 100 International Radio chart, also grabbing a nomination for Album of the Year. The very next year his album Twilight Serenade ascended to the #1 position on the ZMR Chart, while the track entitled “Isle of Light” recently earned a Bronze medal in the Global Music Awards for 2016.With thousands of worldwide fans, Internet-radio airplay streaming constantly around the globe, and a Vibrational Healing series of albums, Peter says his 16th studio album Sacred Visions is a different kind of benchmark: it encapsulates his life experience in the legendary red rock paradise of Sedona,Az. The album also celebrates the coming together of familiar talents on this rhythmic contemporary gem, bursting with danceable world beats and infectious multi-cultural grooves. Blending the accompaniment of studio whizzes Bruce Becvar, Robin Miller, and Fitzhugh Jenkins, along with popular New Age / Smooth Jazz artists Hans Christian, William Aura, and Third Force, it is every bit healing and reflective (as Peter’s fans have come to expect), as it is pure joy. Sacred Visions will likely make your body irresistibly move and groove! While some musicians are classically trained from childhood, others are guided to their destiny later in life. It took 33 years of living before Peter heard the still small voice while working in the high altitudes of the Rocky Mountains as a ski instructor in Aspen. Soon Peter couldn’t shake the notion that he was meant to devote his life to art and become a creative channel for Divine inspiration. Sedona beckoned, and Peter heeded the call without hesitation.Exploring Sedona’s remote canyons daily, and living out of his trusty van, Peter followed every Divine hunch and inspiration as a free-spirited seeker. The Celtic Harp serendipitously entered his life on a fateful day in Sedona as an answer to a prayer on how best to fulfill his unique life purpose. Now toting his harp with him everywhere he went, Peter surrendered himself completely, allowing Grace to unfold through him amidst Sedona’s epic scenery and energy vortices. Having only a few lessons under his belt from the seller of the Celtic Harp, the Angels took over, guiding Peter’s hands and causing them to move masterfully within a few short months. No one was more surprised than Peter, whose skill-level demonstrated that of a virtuoso rather than a mere beginner.Peter felt inspired to make drastic changes to his diet and lifestyle, switching to vegetarian “living” foods and immersing himself in healing treatments to upgrade his physical and energetic bodies through shamanic, chiropractic, energy healing and herbal treatments. With his newfound inner attunement, the Angels continued to reach Peter’s inner ear with heavenly sound transmissions, a sound which many mystics have called “the Music of the Spheres.”Little did Peter know that one day his angelic music would garner testimonials from around the world for its miraculous healing effects: softening the hearts of the dying at the moment of their transition and used by mothers at the time of birth and to ease their autistic children’s suffering. For many, it has become the quintessential healing soundtrack for meditation and massage. “My mission is to create music that can create an experience of transcendence in the listener; strike a chord on their heartstrings, and remind them of Home – a feeling of Oneness,” Peter commented.A favorite on Internet radio such as Pandora, Sirius, XM Satellite, and Soundscapes Radio as well as United and American airlines, Peter scarcely dreamed that his music would have a massive worldwide audience back when he was recording his first 8 tracks on a cassette tape in Byron Bay, Australia and marketing it on foot around Sedona with its hand-drawn cover art. Now, through Internet Radio, CD, DVD, his website, and countless other forums, Peter’s angelic music will continue to reach the masses, heal lives, balance brains, open hearts, and connect people to their innate spiritual essence.A walk into his beautiful West-Sedona home will find dozens of his canvas and wood-mounted “Portals of Light” Mandala art prints, glossed and shimmering with finely-ground Quartz crystal specks. Peter’s stained glass pieces adorn much of the house as well, which are the inspiration used to create the Mandala design for the “Portals of Light” series. When not in the studio working on his next album, Peter is often found working in his organic vegetable and herb garden, ensuring fresh, high-energy food for his family, which now consists of his partner Crystal, and their 5-year old son Micah. Peter also enjoys guiding out-of-towners on Sacred Land Journeys to Sedona’s spectacular vortex sites that have captured his heart and inspired his art and music.Hosted by: Joel Ayala AyapanaProduced by: Joel Ayala Ayapana Disclaimer by: Tiffany Renee Ayapana Introduction by: Rahman Ali Podcast Radio Network: Real Revolution Radio 2.0Network Link: http://www.realrevolutionradio.comArchives: http://www.realrevolutionradioarchives.comNOTICE: By accessing this Podcast, I acknowledge that the entire contents and design of this Podcast, are the property of Quantum Mindfulness Radio LLC and REAL REVOLUTION RADIO X.0, or used by Quantum Mindfulness Radio LLC (QMR) and REAL REVOLUTION RADIO X.0 (RRRX) with permission, and are protected under U.S. and international copyright and trademark laws. Shawnee Braggs is an amazing caterer that has tantalized the taste buds of many a celebrity, political figure and foodie for over 10 years. Known for her creative dishes and exotic marriage of foods, she has become one of the most sought after caterer on both coasts. Well one bite of a meal prepared by Shawnee Briggs and it just doesn’t matter. Some may say she is a cook because the food is prepared with such love and endearment that it’s as if you are sitting at Grandma’s table for Sunday dinner. Others may attest that she has to be a Chef because of the flawless presentation and the skillful manner in which she prepares her meals. Both would be absolutely correct. Whether you are savoring the flavor of her pan seared Salmon or enjoying the warm and fuzzy feeling of her mac & cheese, you must attest, the food is AMAZING. There is something undeniably regal about her food presentation. At any given setting you can sample one of her signature dishes like fruit or shrimp on a bed of roses. These are attributed to her grandmother Rose, which she finds as a source of inspiration to this day. Her ability to create art with her food has not gone unnoticed. Her catering company, Cater By Shawnee, brags of a client list of artists and celebrities the likes of Aretha Franklin, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Fifty Cent, Essence magazine, Malaak Rock, Dwayne Wade (Miami Heat), the Prime minister of Antigua and Wendy Williams (radio / television host) as a short list. She has been featured on FatBoy Radio, XM Satellite and was at one point a regular on the Wendy Williams Show and made The Network Journal’s 40 under 40 List. Shawnee’s hard work has not gone unnoticed. She has garnered the attention of a major network and will be shooting a pilot for the show at the end of the month.

The Genealogy Gems Podcast with Lisa Louise Cooke - Your Family History Show
Published April 16, 2012 In this episode learn more about APG, find out what's new with RootsMagic 5, and get started searching the 1940 census. NEWS: Diane Haddad and I just spent some time on the Family Tree Magazine podcast going over everything that's been happening with the release of the 1940 census. Diane is the Managing Editor of Family Tree Magazine and writes the Genealogy Insider blog, and she's been doing a terrific job covering the records release, indexing efforts and early finds in the 1940 census. You can hear the entire April episode of the Family Tree Magazine podcast at And you can read more about it my article called at the Genealogy Gems News Blog. where you can read about the official opening ceremony at the National Archives and check out a really cool infographic put out by Archives.com that guides you through the process of finding your relatives in the 1940 census before the index is finished and released. Because there isn't a searchable name index yet, you'll need to follow a simple three step process: #1 Write down where you ancestor lived. You can ask older references, check old city directories, voters registrations, previous census and the like to come up with a pretty reliable list. #2 Go to Enter your family's location to find their enumeration district. This is key to finding them without a published index. #3 Use the Census Maps to narrow your results #4 Enter the enumeration district number to view the image Who Do You Think You Are? on NBCIf you've been enjoying the new season of the TV series Who Do You Think You Are? on NBC, then you're really going to enjoy the deleted scenes videos I have for you on the Genealogy Gems News blog. Barkley, Genealogy and Family History Blog From Eylse's Genealogy Blog MAILBOX: From Jean: "Thank you so much for letting me be a gem!". I loved how you played the "Cooke's reel to reel version and then the iTunes version of "Thine Alone". I definitely spent a lot of time talking with myself and debating whether I had the nerve to send that email! I know you've always said that almost all contacts with genealogists are extremely rewarding, but this was just about my first attempt at communication. I am so delighted that it solved your mystery! …You have a marvelous gift for making all of us feel special, and you've certainly helped me get even more motivated to explore my family history, thanks again.” From the Voice Mail Line: “What do you do with big or numerous files? How do you annotate them in your tree for future reference when you pass the tree on or share it with others? I'm talking about PDFs of big books or articles or a large collection of photos where hundreds of megabytes may be involved. They're too cumbersome to keep inside programs but they should still be referenced to be able to find that file later on.” Lisa Recommends: Cite your sources! Those of you that follow this edition may be asking yourself...volume 7? Thanks to our good friend Klaus a.k.a. DJ K-Os who pointed out that I skipped volume 7 and went straight to 8 & 9, I decided to correct that. Granted, it jumps out of place, but better late than never. If you're looking for the more progressive version of the Deep series, this ain't it. I decided it was time to go back to the dark side. No, not the "Luke come over to the dark side" rather some deeper house music, which is what this series was originally intended to be. I'm thinking that I may rename all of the series in 2009. For instance, Electro-Funk will be called the 'BPM Edition', Progressive the "System Edition', Classix the 'Chrome Edition', Deep the 'Chill Edition' and the circuit mixes will remain the same. I haven't come up with a name for the 'House Edition' yet only because all of the aforementioned represent a dance station on XM Satellite radio and there isn't one for just good ole house music. This is tentative, so don't hold me to it. However, if you like the idea, let me know. Rather than go all doom and gloom on this mix, I purposely changed it up a bit. The first mix has a lot more color with a few sprinkles of gray dropped into the mix, while the second mix is primarily gray tones with a few colorful spots to round it out. When I say gray, I actually mean deep house and colorful is closer to good old fashioned soulful house. As the days get cooler and darker (as it has been for several days around here) I don't want to send anyone (muchless myself) into an early holiday depression, so I thought I'd mix it up a bit in case the grayer tones of deep house start to bring you down. Actually, I finished this up pretty quick last week and have been enjoying it since the weekend at home and in my car. So, please give some feedback if you like the direction I took this time. In other news, I want to thank everyone that responded to my call for 'guest DJs'. I have to say, I was a bit shocked, if not overwhelmed. What you can expect between now and the end of November are a variety of outstanding mixes by DJs all across the globe. From the U.S., UK, Australia and Germany I pretty much have it covered. Some of you are up and coming, others have been successfully working it for a long while now, others have their own radio show and another already has management, complete with headshots and a brand new album about to drop. How cool is that? All I can say is welcome to the Party Favorz family! I will be more than happy to promote you and your work over the next couple of months. At this time, I will have to decline any further requests to join as I'll be doubling down on the posts starting in October. Don't worry, I've got something really big by the end of the year that I'll announce at a later date. What I will say is that it will allow everyone to participate and share their mixes, their ideas, perspectives, tips and tricks. Stay tuned. In the meantime, just sit back and enjoy the sounds of the underground. I'll be back tomorrow with Take 2 of this mix. Enjoy! Episode 28: Aired 3/14/06 The Sonic Society Texas Radio Theatre Schlock Audio Theatre Wasted Tape Radio Comedy Have you noticed that recently Westerns are making a bit of a comeback? I'm not speaking directly about the most recent Oscar buzz of "Brokeback Mountain", but rather the successes of shows like Colonial Radio Theatre's "Powder River" which is getting rave reviews and thunderous applause from all quarters. XM Satellite radio can't seem to get enough Powder River, and Jerry Robbins is now working on season three of the hit series. On televsion, even science fiction takes a turn moseying along with the "wagon trains of the stars". Gene Roddenberry claimed to sell Star Trek in the 60's with that phrase, and Joss Whedon's pre-empted triumph "Firefly" along with its followup movie "Serenity" leans heavily on that age of old west. While I'm well aware that genres weave in and out of popularity, I'm more interested in why cycles occur rather than suggesting that they somehow have a regular pattern- if they did, wouldn't it have been time for a big 30's pulp movie like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow? How long has it been since we've had a new renaissance in that genre? I think there's something about the world we live in today, and the values that the Old West represented- simplicity, even a clearer sense of what's right and what's wrong. In today's complex society, there's a real yearning for a tangible way to make a better life. Later we'll finish our interview with Schlock Audio's Bruce Humphries, and end this meeting with a little... Wasted Tape. Please vote for this podcast on Podcast Alley!
