Some heartfelt words from Kairogen: It's hard to process that i won't be able to dj with niamh jobson again when we were just getting started. I remember meeting before this set to practice, niamh realising she'd forgotten all her usb's - later found in the washing machine. that day, it felt like we were making breakthroughs, refining our styles and finding a space further up the bpm scale that worked together. i called it ‘dark groove' - her minimal, stylish sound with a funky, sexy edge that kept things rolling without being too obvious. We were excited to play, but the night had its challenges. niamh had been battling osteosarcoma and had recently had her leg amputated, now replaced with a silver sparkly prosthetic. my playlists hadn't copied over, which i realised five minutes before the set - shaking hands, sweat forming - until niamh handed me a spare usb and i got back on track. Niamh was so unwell at the time that even djing was hard. i remember fixing the jogwheel when she could hardly reach, sorting her wig, and narrowly saving a track from cutting to silence. we laughed when i also accidentally paused the track that was playing - we'd both always panic but laugh through these moments, which is what friendship behind the decks is all about. some things going wrong and loads of things going right is what makes djing fun, especially b2b - being in sync while keeping individuality. Niamh's ability came so quickly and effortlessly, and i only wish we had been able to hear more. she had a deep knowledge of sound for her age. it's frustrating that she had so much more to give, but what she achieved musically in such a short time was huge and will always be a special memory. Dr. Tim Jobson of Predictive Health Intelligence joins Roger Green in our continuing review coverage of TLM 2023. Dr. Jobson discusses the studies he presented at the meeting and other work related to population-level screening for metabolic diseases, the importance of providing better care in areas with lower socio-economic status residents and the global value of population health management. The conversation starts with Tim discussing the major impact that new medicines like resmetirom and new indications for GLP-1s will have on the entire treatment framework for MASLD and MASH, starting with increased interest in screening coming from physicians who will have medications they can use to treat patients. Roger identifies the ability to predict which patients will proceed from MASLD to MASH as a major area for improvement, which serves as a segue to Tim to discuss PHI's work. PHI presented two posters at TLM2023, mostly focusing on deploying PHI's medical record-based case finding approach to identify specific patients badly in need of care but not receiving it. This is particularly crucial in what Tim describes as "areas of deprivation," with residents of lower socio-economic status. One poster addressed identification of untreated patients with Hepatitis B. The other focused on liver disease in these areas: similar rates of disease but far higher rates of advanced disease. Tim's is particularly excited about population-level risk stratification and the ability to identify a "five-fold" increase in the people we can target early in adulthood based on their propensity to develop non-communicable disease later in life. This study will target 7% of the population, which he expects will make the program economically viable. Tim reports he has seen tremendous interest in this idea at the meeting, strikingly among US physicians, allied professionals and payers. The conversation shifts from Tim's work to other issues in the meeting he found fascinating. He was powerfully struck by some of the data and drugs becoming available in Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) and findings about modes of action in Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC), two rarer diseases vitally in need of better therapies. Tim also asks where AI will fit into the emerging care paradigms. In this regard, one of his concerns regards the intrinsic biases in existing datasets when we try to predict which patients have more urgent need for a liver transplant among those on the list. Tim and Roger return to the issue of biases in the current dataset, and agree the biases are probably too "hard-wired" to eliminate, which means researchers will need to find ways to adapt...and, Tim believes, they will do so.Looking at another issue that interested Tim, the discussion shifts to asking what the meeting is telling us about Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. Tim notes that we are unlikely to meet the ambitious elimination goals we have set. Doing better will involve improved patient identification and motivation, which has two tiers of challenge. In developing countries, the data and data structures necessary to target patients simply do not exist. Even when they do exist, as in the UK, the system reaches only half-to-two-thirds of patients with clear signs of serious disease. The right strategy for the solution is to pilot in a narrow swath of population, then go broader. As the conversation ends, Tim notes that the technology is here or will be shortly to achieve this goal.

(29:07) · How can you know if a coach is actually interested vs. just trying to get you to go to a camp? (32:08) · Are camps worth the time and expense? It's an ending to the story of a 50 year on-off-on-again relationship that few would have predicted amid the scandals of the Charles-Diana marriage, and especially after the publication of the notorious ‘Camillagate' tape in 1992.So is Camilla a society intriguer, determined to work her way towards the crown at any cost, or is she a woman driven by duty, devoted to a man who clearly needs her and prepared to wait decades for her chance of happiness? We're joined by one of Britain's top royal reporters, Rob Jobson. Rob knows Camilla well and has insider sources so good that he broke the story of her upcoming marriage to Charles in 2005.Rob's new book on King Charles is available in April. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Our-King-Charles-Monarch-Revealed/dp/1789467047/ref=sr_1_7?qid=1679826002&refinements=p_27%3ARobert+Jobson&s=books&sr=1-7&text=Robert+JobsonAndrew Lownie.twitter.com/andrewlowniePhil Craig.twitter.com/philmcraigYou can get in touch with the show hosts via...team@podcastworld.org (place 'Scandal Mongers' in the heading please)This show is part of the PodcastWorld.org network. The supergroup U.K. was founded by former King Crimson percussionist Bill Bruford (also a former founder of Yes) and bassist and vocalist John Wetton (also a former member of Uriah Heep, and Roxy Music). After failing to reform King Crimson, each of the two brought in a musician they thought would work well in the group. Wetton brought in Eddie Jobson, violinist and keyboardist from Frank Zappa's band. Bruford brought in Allan Holdsworth on guitars (who had worked on Bruford's prior solo project. Their self titled debut album was released in May, 1978. Although a couple of songs were edited for single release, the album U.K. is best known as a prog rock masterpiece, and is cited as inspirational to many musicians who followed in the prog rock genre. After an extensive tour supporting the album, Wetton and Jobson had a falling out with Holdsworth and fired him. Bill Bruford left at that time and was replaced by Terry Bozzio, another alumnus of Frank Zappa's band and a future founding member of Missing Persons. John Wetton would go on in the days after U.K. to be the front man for Asia.Rob brings us the prog rock monster-piece. In the Dead of NightThe track that leads off the album was one of two songs to be edited for release as a single. On the album it is the first of three songs which form a continuous suite on the first album side. The 7/4 time and the synthesizer - the Yamaha CS-80 had just been released - are prog rock hallmarks. The electric violin is an unusual addition.By the Light of DayThis track is the second movement of the "In the Dead of Night" suite. Rather than have a clear change in tracks, there is a slow transition via a "spacey" interlude into the new song of the suite. "Black clouds moving gray skies to thunder. Kinetic sunrise fever and flood. Fire and water element anger horizon melting to blood."Presto Vivace and RepriseThis is the third movement of the "In the Dead of Night suite. This is a much faster piece (as the term Vivace would suggest) before transitioning back into a reprise of "In the Dead of Night."Time to KillThe abrupt start to this song is due to the way the tracks drift into each other. The concept is that of boredom, of being stuck in a place. "Time to kill, going nowhere, killing time, staying where there's time to kill, going nowhere..." ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:That'll Be the Day by Buddy Holly (from the motion picture "The Buddy Holly Story") Gary Busey was nominated for the Oscar for his portrayal of early rocker Buddy Holly in this film. Busey would sing and play for the part. STAFF PICKS:Goodbye Girl by David Gates Bruce leads off the staff picks with a soft rock solo from former Bread front man David Gates. The song is from the Neil Simon movie "The Goodbye Girl," which would lead to Richard Dreyfuss becoming the youngest man to win an Oscar for Best Actor at the time. Lay Down Sally by Eric Clapton Brian presents a pop hit from Clapton's album Slowhand. It went to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was written by Clapton, George Terry (guitar), and Marcy Levy (who sings the female parts on the song). It was written in the country blues style of J.J. Cale, and hit number 26 on the Hot Country Songs chart, Clapton's best showing on that chart as a crossover.Ain't It Fun by Dead BoysWayne features a song from Cleveland's own Dead Boys. This song appears on their second studio album, "We Have Come for Your Children." They were known as one of the rowdiest bands on the punk scene. It hit number 8 on the Mainstream Rock charts, and is an ode to the punk rock lifestyle. With a Little Luck by WingsRob brings us Paul McCartney with a song recorded largely in the Virgin Islands on a yacht equipped with a 24-track mobile recording studio installed on it. This single from the album "London Town" hit number 1 on the pop charts. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Alaska by U.K. This instrumental lets us do some double dipping with the track that leads off side 2 of the U.K. album.
