Hi, I'm Kelly McElroy and I love learning about everything related to sustainability and the environment. In this podcast we will do just that. We will showcase a cool story, project, idea, etc. related to sustainability and the environment as well as discuss at least one thing the average person could consider implementing in their own life related to sustainability.
love, great.
Listeners of sustainabiliME that love the show mention: kelly,The sustainabiliME podcast is an incredibly informative and thought-provoking show that covers a wide range of topics related to sustainability. Kelly, the host, has done a remarkable job in bringing together a diverse group of guests who offer unique perspectives on various aspects of sustainable living. Whether it's discussing well-known concepts or exploring lesser-known areas, this podcast provides valuable insights that leave listeners feeling inspired and empowered.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is its ability to cover both common and uncommon topics within the realm of sustainability. The episodes not only address everyday concerns but also delve into areas that many may have never even considered before. This variety ensures that there is always something new to learn and discover with each episode. Additionally, Kelly's ability to tap into her network of sustainability-minded friends allows for a wide range of expertise and experiences to be shared, further enriching the content.
Moreover, the podcast excels at presenting actionable tips and suggestions for individuals looking to make a difference in their own lives. These tips are practical and easy to implement, enabling listeners to take small steps towards sustainability in their day-to-day routines. The discussions remain accessible and enjoyable while tackling serious issues, making it easier for everyone to engage with the content.
However, one aspect that could be improved upon is the occasional lack of depth in certain episodes. While most conversations are informative and engaging, there are moments where more exploration could enhance the overall experience. Delving deeper into certain subjects would provide a more comprehensive understanding for listeners who crave more in-depth analysis.
In conclusion, The sustainabiliME podcast is an outstanding resource for anyone interested in learning about sustainability and taking steps towards a greener lifestyle. Kelly's passion for the topic shines through each episode as she brings together experts from different fields to share their knowledge and insights. From covering everyday sustainable practices to highlighting local businesses making a difference, this podcast offers a valuable platform for education and inspiration. Be prepared to be informed, motivated, and equipped with the tools to make a positive impact on our planet.
Today Jason and Kelly will be evaluating their carbon footprint now that they have moved to a new house in a new town. According to the Nature Conservancy, "The average carbon footprint for a person in the United States is 16 tons, one of the highest rates in the world. Globally, the average carbon footprint is closer to 4 tons. To have the best chance of avoiding a 2℃ rise in global temperatures, the average global carbon footprint per year needs to drop to under 2 tons by 2050." In order to make progress, you first need to measure where you are at, so that's exactly what Kelly and Jason are about to do. This is part of a decarbonization series where Kelly and Jason will evaluate the various ways individuals can reduce their carbon emissions in their own home. Topics that will be covered include heat pumps, induction stove tops, solar, and more! We're Back! That's right, after taking a break, Kelly and Jason are back in the podcast booth... or at least the living room couch recording the podcast. After moving to the Metro Detroit area, they decided to dive into the topic of home decarbonization from weatherization, HVAC, kitchen appliances and more. In today's episode, they will be introducing the topic for this series. Since this will take some research, episodes will not drop every week as they did in the past, however they will do their best not to have a 4 month drought again anytime soon. So give this podcast a follow on social media @sustainabiliME.pod and share with your friends and family! Also HAPPY EARTH DAY!!! Also HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY SUSTAINABILIME!!!

COP aka the Conference of Parties is a United Nations conference on climate change where over 35,000 participants, including over 100 heads of States and Governments, meet to discuss climate change problems and solutions. The goal is to meet the Pair Climate Accord of limiting the increase of global temperatures to 2 degrees C with the hopeful target being 1.5 degrees C. This was a two week event that took place in early November in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Today I'll be talking with Cory Thompson, owner of Red Oak Refillery, which actually has 6 locations throughout Southeast Michigan. Refillerys are a great way to refill containers of various soaps, detergents, shampoos, and more as a way to reduce packaging, reduce plastic, and reduce toxic materials within your products. Today Jason and I will cover the sustainable stories from the month of October including Apple switching to USB-C chargers, the Detroit Tree Equity partnership, and Carbon Capture projects. We will also touch on how I took a week off from podcasting this month for mental sustainability. After midterms, I decided to get off the grid for a weekend and we traveled to Hocking Hills, Ohio and learned a bit about the Civilian Conservation Corps. Today I will be chatting with Rev. Kyle Meyaard-Schaap who is also Vice President of the Evangelical Environmental Network. We will be discussing what it is like being a devoted Christian who is also focused on educating, inspiring, and mobilizing other Christians to address environmental issues and climate change. Religion isn't a topic that I have covered much on this podcast, but I'm excited to hear how Kyle ties it together with climate activism. Follow us on social media @sustainabiliME.pod Links: Yale Climate Opinion Maps 2021 Evangelical Environmental Network Kyle's Book: Following Jesus in a Warming World Have you ever looked at the effects of climate change and the apathy of so many around you and wondered, "What are we missing here?" Climate activist Kyle Meyaard-Schaap understands this feeling from personal experience. But in his years of speaking to and equipping Christians to work for climate action, he's seen the trend begin to shift. More and more young Christians are waking up to the realities of climate change. They want to help, but they're not sure how. Through stories from the field, theological and scriptural exploration, and practical advice, Meyaard-Schaap offers hope to Christians paralyzed by the scale of the crisis, helping us turn our paralysis into meaningful action. Following Jesus in a Warming World is a field guide for Christian climate action—one grounded not in a sense of guilt or drudgery, but in the joy of caring for creation.
Today I will be chatting with Dr. Shelie Miller, one of my amazing professors at the School for Environment and Sustainability (also known as SEAS) at the University of Michigan. Today Jason will be giving us a book report on his latest sustainability read: Cradle to Cradle by Michael Braungart and William McDonough. This is a book from 2022 that rethinks how we create products. Instead of designing things for cradle to grave, they should be designed for cradle to cradle. Even though this book is older, it still has a lot of useful insights. If you are interested in reading this book for yourself, check it out at your local library.
