Join Anchoring Truths Podcast hosts Garrett Snedeker & Daniel Osborne for a discussion of bringing Congress back to the center of our legal and political life. The backdrop for their discussion was their visit to the University of Michigan Law School in March for the annual Federalist Society Student Symposium. This year, the Symposium was titled "Congress: Reviving the Impetuous Vortex." Snedeker and Osborne offer observations about their visit to Ann Arbor as well as examine recent legal flashpoints through the lens of what the congressional role could or ought to be. They also discuss how the conference is a fantastic occasion for meeting students interested in the broader work of the James Wilson Institute.Videos of the panels Snedeker and Osborne discuss may be found on the Federalist Society's website.

Send us a textWell, I'm feeling good about StocktonAfterClass. We just passed 60,000 downloads. That is not many compared with media Superstars but to me it is an impressive number. And you are from over 130 different countries. I am not told anything about any of you except where you live but in the past when I have had zoom sessions, I have found those who checked in to be very interesting people. Would you like to join us? There is no agenda. Whatever you want to talk about is good with me. Maybe you want to discuss one of the previous podcasts, or maybe you just want to chat about the weather. Whatever. I am guessing we would go on for an hour or so, but the last time I tried this there were some very intersting people (and talkative) and we went on longer than that. If you are interested you have to let me know so I can sign you in. Please send me an email to rstock@Umich.edu And if the time comes and I have not started the meeting, please be patient. I am a bit of a klutz where zoom stuff is concerned. And if you wanted to join in but are not allowed by the time the session starts, please send me an email. I probably did something wrong. See you on Sunday, December 8 at 2:00.

Off-Broadway, he starred as the title character in Langston Hughes's Little Ham, as well as performing in From My Hometown. Garner appeared in the national touring productions of The Color Purple, Dreamgirls, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Miss Saigon. If you listen to the politicians and the headlines, you'll hear a lot of talk about the "strong consumer" who is keeping the economy happily chugging along. But when we hear from actual consumers themselves, we hear a very different story. The majority of households are struggling under the surge in their cost of living post-COVID. Many express despair that the American dream is now beyond their reach. For a detailed dive into this critical topic, we're fortunate today to speak with Joanne Hsu, director of the widely-followed University of Michigan's consumer sentiment survey. The UMich data indeed shows that a growing majority of Americans are giving up hope they'll ever be able to afford a middle class lifestyle. WORRIED ABOUT THE MARKET? With mother's day around the corner, gold is up almost $60 on the week after bad jobs numbers and terribe consumer sentiment sours economic expectations. The Fed is more likely to lower interest rates sooner, but it's too late to save the economy from the inflation to come. This week, we briefly touch base on three prevailing sentiments, from recent comment sections: There is a massive difference between a personal lifestyle choice, and a scalable development pattern. Folks seem to think the only kind of real estate or housing that one can buy is a detached, single-family home on a large lot. Of course, this is not true. "Not everyone wants to live in a city!" Yes, correct. Just as not everyone wants to live in any specific place. Yet, more people live in cities than anywhere else (>80% of the U.S. population (via Census.gov, UMich)). We need to plan, design, and build accordingly. We also reflect on a weekend trip spent walking Salt Lake City neighborhoods, and observing positive infrastructure improvements amidst a sprawling metro. One note: in this episode, we referenced episode 29, in conjunction with recent comment sections. We meant episode 28. Catch up on that audio here. For context: On Salt Lake City bike infrastructure improvements (via The Salt Lake Tribune). A new SLC bus stop + buffered bike lane, approaching an intersection. A protected intersection, in downtown Salt Lake City. A UTA train pic (underrated, and greatly enjoyed). Connecting with me, Brad: On Instagram. On TikTok. On LinkedIn.

Today we are joined by Laura Miller-Graff, (BA Notre Dame ‘08; PhD, UMich '13), an Associate Professor of Psychology and Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame. Prof. Miller-Graff's work centers on the impact of violence on childhood development, and the human capacity for resilience in conflict settings. She's concerned with questions of psychological well-being, post-traumatic stress, and the efficacy of interventions for violence-exposed individuals and communities. Through her work, she seeks to develop culturally appropriate, cost-effective psychosocial interventions, paying particular attention to vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and adolescents living amidst chronic sociopolitical conflict. In this episode, we ask Dr. Miller-Graff to draw on her extensive research background in stress, resilience, and trauma, to help us think about stress and burnout in the workplace. With her expertise in investigating how various systems interact to promote or inhibit healthy development after exposure to violence, she shares insights about how the principles she's uncovered can translate to corporate settings, where violence may not be physical, but the traumatic effects of chronic stress can nonetheless be detrimental.Along the way, the Ethics at Work team poses questions about stress (is it always bad?), burnout (how do psychologists think about it?), and happiness at work. Join us for a fascinating take across disciplines on a topic relevant to anyone who's experienced stress or burnout in their own working lives.Featured Speakers: Paul Blaschko, Ph.D., assistant teaching professor at the University of Notre DameMegan Levis, Ph.D., assistant professor of the practice with Notre Dame's Center for Social Concerns and with the College of EngineeringWalter Scheirer, Ph.D., the Dennis O. In this episode of the week in markets, Equities Research Analyst Jen-Ai Chua discusses the progress made in resolving US debt ceiling issues, and key US economic data releases this week. Interest rate outlook remains murky as dovish comments from the May FOMC minutes are mitigated by stickier PCE inflation in the latest UMich survey. Meanwhile, the rally in AI stocks, led by Nvidia's mind-blowing revenue guidance, shows no sign of abating, driving the NASDAQ's best start to the year (relative to the Dow) and outperformance in the tech heavy North Asian markets of Korea and Taiwan. Earnings outlook for Asia as a whole is, however, muted, on single digit cuts to 2023E earnings post the Q1 results season. We expect investors to remain on the sidelines until the FOMC meeting on 13-14 June.

Graduate student-workers at the University of Michigan are on strike for the second time in three years, officially hitting the picket line this week. Speaking to The Michigan Daily, Amir Fleischmann, chair of the Graduate Employees Organization (GEO) Contracts Committee, said, "Grad workers are very frustrated. They're struggling to pay rent. They're struggling to afford childcare. They lack access to gender-affirming care. And I think we're saying enough is enough. The University needs to give us a fair contract now.” On top of that, the University of Michigan administration is once again seeking to weaponize the courts to end the strike, filing an Unfair Labor Practice Charge against the union, claiming that the strike violates the university's existing contract with the union. In this urgent mini-cast, we talk with Alejo Stark, a grad worker and rank-and-file member of GEO, to get an update on the strike, the response from the administration, and what listeners can do to show support for GEO and its members. Gulls, unlike aircrafts, can remain stable during flight even in turbulent weather and this research might lead to adaptation of gull-inspired wings in the aircraft of tomorrow.(9:13) - Scalable Digital Twins: An MIT grad recently created a framework for deploying digital twins at scale by connecting physical and digital assets (for all sorts of applications). This technology could be utilized to create digital twins more easily without as much upfront investment.(15:05) - Detecting microplastics from space: Mircroplastic pollution is extremely harmful to the environment and yet is nearly impossible to track. Luckily, UMich researchers found a way to repurpose old NASA CYGNSS satellites for hurricane forecasting to track microplastic particles' origins and movement throughout the ocean. --About the podcast:Every day, some of the most innovative universities, companies, and individual technology developers share their knowledge on Wevolver.
