In 2011, in Paray le Monial, France, I had the chance to speak with Msgr. John Esseff at the First Sacred Heart World Congress.  Msgr. Esseff is one of the founders of the Sacred Heart Apostolate, sponsor of this event which brought laity, religious, and priests from around the world.  Talks were given by Cardinal Raymond Burke, Bishop Robert Herman, Christendom College President Timothy O'Donnell, and EWTN show host and author Fr. Mitch Pacwa, as well as many others  Why did they come to this small French community nestled in Eastern France?  Because our Lord choice this place and two very remarkably humble saints to communicate the message of his Sacred Heart.  He said to St. Margaret Mary:  "My Divine Heart is so inflamed with love for mankind ... that it can no longer contain within itself the flames of its burning charity and must spread them abroad by your means." She described that His Heart was on fire and surrounded by a crown of thorns. Our Lord told her that the flames represented His love for humanity, and the thorns represented man's sinfulness and ingratitude. Jesus informed her that her mission was to establish the devotion to His Most Sacred Heart, and He revealed twelve promises that He would bestow upon all those who practice the devotion. She had three more visions over the next year and a half in which Jesus instructed her in a devotion that was to become known as the Nine Fridays. Christ also inspired Margaret Mary to establish the Holy Hour and to receive Holy Communion on the first Friday of every month. In the final revelation, the Lord asked that a feast of reparation be instituted for the Friday after the octave of Corpus Christi. Blessed Claude de la Colombiere, a holy and experienced Jesuit, arrived as confessor to the nuns, and in him Margaret Mary recognized the understanding guide that had been promised to her in the visions. He became convinced that her experiences were genuine and adopted the teaching of the Sacred Heart that the visions had communicated to her. Msgr. Esseff talks about that message, what it means for us today, and how we can live it out. The post Living in the Sacred Heart of Jesus – Building a Kingdom of Love with Msgr. Friends of the Rosary, Today is the Memorial Day of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690). Our Lord chose this French Visitation nun and mystic to spread devotion to his Sacred Heart. This privilege took place at a time when Protestantism and the heresy of Jansenism were trying to separate Catholics from their faith and their God. Margaret had always intensely loved the Blessed Sacrament and preferred silence. In one of her visions, she was instructed to spend an hour every Thursday night meditating on Jesus' Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, a practice known as “The Holy Hour” that later became widespread. In December 1673, Jesus appeared to Margaret Mary again and allowed her to rest her head on His heart. His human heart was to symbolize His divine-human love. He revealed to her the wonders of His love and explained to her that he wished to make these wonders known to all the world. A group of theologians declared her visions delusions and suggested she eat better. Even parents of children she instructed began calling her an imposter. Margaret eventually gained the support from the community's confessor, St. Claude de la Colombiere, who declared her visions were genuine. St. Margaret Mary later led the monastery in observing the Feast of the Sacred Heart and inspired the construction of a chapel to honor it. Margaret Mary died a couple of years later, at 43, on October 17, 1690, while being anointed. She said, “I need nothing but God and to lose myself in the heart of Jesus.” After her death, the Jesuits adopted devotion to the Sacred Heart, but it remained controversial within the Church. The practice did not become officially recognized until 75 years later. St. Margaret Mary Alacoque was officially canonized in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV. In 1928, Pope Pius XI upheld the Church's position. He stated that Jesus “manifested Himself” to Margaret and confirmed the chief features of devotion to the Sacred Heart were the “reception of Holy Communion on the first Friday of each month, Eucharistic adoration during a ‘Holy hour' on Thursdays, and the celebration of the Feast of the Sacred Heart.” Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, Pray for Us! Come, Holy Spirit, come! To Jesus through Mary! + Mikel Amigot | RosaryNetwork.com, New York • October 16, 2024, Today's Rosary on YouTube | Daily broadcast at 7:30 pm ET

At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones.In illo tempore respondens Jesus dixit : Confiteor tibi, Pater, Domine caeli et terrae, quia abscondisti haec a sapientibus, et prudentibus, et revelasti ea parvulis.  26 Yea, Father; for so hath it seemed good in thy sight.Ita Pater : quoniam sic fuit placitum ante te.  27 All things are delivered to me by my Father. And no one knoweth the Son, but the Father: neither doth any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom it shall please the Son to reveal him. 28 Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you. 29 Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.Tollite jugum meum super vos, et discite a me, quia mitis sum, et humilis corde : et invenietis requiem animabus vestris.  30 For my yoke is sweet and my burden light. St Margaret Mary Alacoque was born at Verosvres (France) in 1647 and entered the Order of the Visitation at Paray-le-Monial in 1671. Jesus appeared to her in many visions, displaying to her his Sacred Heart, sometimes burning as a furnace and sometimes torn and bleeding on account of the sins of men. In 1675 the revelation was made to her that she, in union with Fr de la Colombiere, SJ, was to be the chief instrument for instituting the Feast of the Sacred Heart and for spreading devotion to the Sacred Heart around the world. She died on Oct 17, AD 1690.

According to Vatican News, Pope Francis has provided 10,000 thermal shirts for people who do not have adequate shelter in Turkey and Syria. The pope has also sent financial aid to Syria through the country's apostolic nunciature, Vatican almoner Cardinal Konrad Krajewski told Vatican News. Boxes of thermal shirts took sail from the port of Naples, Italy, on the morning of February 15, together with other aid from NGOs and the Italian government. The shirts were brought to the southern port city on the evening of February 14 by Krajewski. The shirts and other supplies are expected to arrive in Turkey's port city of Iskenderun in two days. The small city was one of those heavily damaged by the February 6 earthquakes believed to have killed more than 41,000 people in the region — a death toll that rises daily as rescuers continue to search through building rubble. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253650/pope-francis-contributes-to-earthquake-relief-efforts-in-syria-and-turkey The beatification date has been announced for Józef and Wiktoria Ulma and their seven children, who were killed by the Nazis for hiding a Jewish family in their home in Poland. The Archdiocese of Przemyska announced Tuesday that the entire Ulma family — including one unborn child — will be beatified on September 10. Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, the prefect of the Vatican Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, will preside over the beatification ceremony in Markowa, the village in southeast Poland where the Ulma family was executed in 1944. Pope Francis recognized the martyrdom of the couple and their children in a decree signed in December. The World Holocaust Remembrance Center has honored the Ulmas as Righteous Among the Nations for the sacrifice of their lives. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253649/beatification-date-announced-for-married-couple-with-seven-children-martyred-by-nazis Airline workers and travelers flying through the busiest airport in the world can now spend time in the real presence of Christ thanks to the efforts of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport's chaplains and the cooperation of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Located in the international terminal, the eucharistic chapel will be a permanent fixture at the airport and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. After receiving approval from the archbishop, the tabernacle was installed in November of last year. But because only travelers and airline workers can get past security to access the chapel, the archbishop was not able to officially bless it until this Monday, shortly before his flight departed. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253646/atlanta-airport-gets-a-247-eucharistic-chapel Today, the Church celebrates Saint Claude de la Colombiere, the 17th century French Jesuit who authenticated and wrote about Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque's visions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-claude-de-la-colombiere-148

Walking with the Saints Podcast | Feast of St. Claude De La Colombiere, Patronage to the Sacred Heart of Jesus | February 15 Those who are devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus must be familiar with our saint today – St. Claude De La Colombiere. He is remembered as the spiritual director who recognized the truth of the revelations of the Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque. A great devotee of the Sacred Heart before meeting St. Margaret Mary, and one who earnestly promoted the devotion, he is privileged to be called “Champion of the Devotion to the Sacred Heart.” Colombière was born in southern France on February 2, 1641 and studied at a Jesuit school from an early age. He entered the Society of Jesus when he was 17 and was ordained April 6, 1669. After his tertianship he was assigned superior of a small community in Paray-le-Monial, where there was also a convent of cloistered Visitation Sisters. Among its members was Sister Margaret Mary Alacoque, to whom the Sacred Heart was revealing divine messages. Some sisters of the community did not believe the visions of Sister Margaret. They thought that she was deceiving herself and their skepticism caused her much suffering. But Jesus assured her that He was sending her His “faithful servant and perfect friend.” Fr. Colombiere became the confessor of the community and the spiritual director of St. Margaret. She told him of the visions she received and the supernatural events happening in her life and he believed her. He recognized that the prayer Margaret heard from the Sacred Heart were real gift from God Fr. Colombiere stayed only 18 months in Paray-le-Monial and was assigned to preach to the Duchess of York in London, a very difficult assignment. England was non-Catholic, but King Charles II allowed his brother, the Duke of York, who became a Catholic, to have a chapel in St. James Palace. Fr. Colombiere preached there the message of Jesus Christ's great love for humanity, symbolized by His Sacred Heart. His sermons converted many Protestants. The Duchess herself was the first member of the royalty to petition Pope Innocent XII to establish a solemn feast for the Sacred Heart. Then suddenly, Fr. Colombiere was falsely accused by a Frenchman. The charges were traitorous speech against the king and the English parliament. By order of the king, Fr. Colombiere was arrested and placed in a cold dungeon. After a month of imprisonment, he was pardoned and released but he had become physically weak. He returned to France, and arrived in Lyons on March 11, 1679. He stayed there and became spiritual father to Jesuit novices. Despite his poor health, he continued to preach about the Sacred Heart. But his health continued to deteriorate so the superiors sent him back to Paray-le-Monial in 1681. In early 1682 he got a high fever and on February 15, he died of hemorrhage at the age of 41. In 1929, he was beatified by Pope Pius XI and was canonized on May 31, 1992 by Pope Paul II. Virtue:piety, humility, integrity, obedience, charity, forgiveness, courage and fortitude. · Prayer: “Lord, through the intercession of St. Claude, De La Colombiere, give me the strength to accept my sufferings and to forgive all who have done me wrong.” Amen. · Reflection: Am I ready to forgive the persons who have hurt me?

TESTO DELL'ARTICOLO ➜ http://www.bastabugie.it/it/articoli.php?id=6705OMELIA XXX DOMENICA T.ORD. Egli continua a gridare: «Gesù abbi pietà di me!» (Mc 10,47).

[Comment: Losing in the Heart of Jesus] Friends of the Rosary: We honor today St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, the seventeenth-century French nun whose visions of Jesus Christ helped to spread devotion to the Sacred Heart. One day, while in prayer, Margaret experienced Christ's presence in an extraordinary way. She heard Jesus explain that he desired to show his love for the human race in a special way, by encouraging devotion to "the heart that so loved mankind." She experienced a series of private revelations, but the superior of the convent and Church officials dismissed them as a delusion. However, the Jesuit priest Father Claude de la Colombiere – later canonized as a saint – believed her testimony, and chronicled it in writing. St. Margaret Mary Alacoque gained what she desired, facing her last illness with courage: "To lose myself in the heart of Jesus." Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! A little while back I got a message from Kathryn who's struggling to surrender to God's will for vocation, career, and living situation. She wrote, “Every time I surrender what I want to God I just get sad, like I'm giving up. How can I surrender my desires God when I don't even think he cares, when I don't think he wants to give me what I want?” My heart went out to Kathryn and I knew right away I wanted to devote an entire episode to her question. During my vocational discernment journey, I did many ugly cries in adoration struggling with exactly this same issue. In this first-of-its-kind Q&A episode, I'm sharing how to build your trust in God for true peace and an unstoppable faith. Leaning into this massive question is scary, hard, and uncomfortable. But I'm absolutely stoked for Kathryn and anyone in this particular struggle because it's the threshold of an entirely new, authentic life. TESTO DELL'ARTICOLO ➜ http://www.bastabugie.it/it/articoli.php?id=6489OMELIA XIV DOMENICA T. ORD. Even in trials he practiced forgetfulness of self in order to attain purity of love and to raise the world to God.Born in the south of France during 1641, Claude de la Colombiere belonged to a family of seven children, four of whom entered the priesthood or religious life. He attended a Jesuit school in his youth, and entered the order himself at age 17.As a young Jesuit recruit, Claude admitted to having a horrible aversion to the rigorous training required by the order in his day. But the novitiate of the Society of Jesus focused and sharpened his natural talents, and he would later take a private vow to obey the order's rules as perfectly as possible. After completing his order's traditional periods of study and teaching, Claude became a priest in 1669. Known as a gifted preacher, he also taught at the college level and served as a tutor to the children of King Louis XIV's minister of finance. In 1674, the priest became the superior of a Jesuit house in the town of Paray-le-Monial. It was during this time, in his role as confessor to a convent of Visitationist nuns, that Claude de la Colombiere became involved in events that would change his own life and the history of the Western Church. One of the nuns, later canonized as St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, claimed to have experienced private revelations from Christ urging devotion to his heart as the symbol and seat of God's love for mankind. Within the convent, however, these reports met with dismissal and contempt.During his time in Paray-le-Monial, Father la Colombiere became the nun's spiritual director, giving careful consideration to her testimony about the purported revelations. He concluded that Sister Margaret Mary had indeed encountered Jesus in an extraordinary way.Claude la Colombiere's writings and his testimony to the reality of St. Margaret Mary's experiences helped to establish the Sacred Heart as a feature of Western Catholic devotion. This, in turn, helped to combat the heresy of Jansenism, which claimed that God did not desire the salvation of some people. In the fall of 1676, Father la Colombiere, was called away from Paray-le-Monial to England. During a time of tension in the religiously torn country, he ministered as chaplain and preacher to Mary of Modena, a Catholic who had become the Duchess of York.In 1678, a false rumor spread about an alleged Catholic plot against the English monarchy. The lie led to the execution of 35 innocent people, including eight Jesuits. La Colombiere was not put to death, but was accused, arrested, and locked in a dungeon for several weeks. The French Jesuit held up heroically during the ordeal, but conditions in the prison ruined his health before his expulsion from England. He went back to France in 1679 and resumed his work as a teacher and priest, encouraging love for Christ's Sacred Heart among the faithful. In 1681, Claude de la Colombiere returned to Paray-le-Monial, the site of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque's revelations. It was there, during 1682, that the 41-year-old priest died from internal bleeding on the year's first Sunday of Lent, Feb. 15.St. Claude de la Colombiere was beatified in 1929 nine years after the canonization of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and canonized 63 years later. People may deprive me of my worldly goods and of my honor; illness can take away my strength and the means of serving You. I may even lose Your grace through sin, but I shall never lose hope. Amen.

I think the measuring bar for Catholics who want to fundraise is linking your campaigns with the wisdom of the saints. I think that is why my fundraising campaigns have thrived all these years. It's because I always use the saints and Church teaching as the foundation. Today, let me share with you how divine providence connects with fundraising.  Catholics who fundraise often say, "I trust in divine providence when it comes to finding donations." What does that REALLY mean? I've put some serious thought into the question, and St. Claude de la Colombiere gave me the answer. He wrote a fantastic document titled, Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence.  What Saint Claude says and how it connects with fundraising may surprise you. Check it  out:
