Concerning The Times with Howard Green

The Christian life isn't easy, and everyone who wants to follow Jesus must count the cost. Finishing well and enduring to the end should be the goal of every believer who longs to hear Jesus say these words to us, "Well done, good and faithful servant."Show notes:If you are a pastor, evangelist, missionary, or like-minded believer seeking fellowship, accountability, encouragement, and possible ministry credentials, consider joining us at CMFI.Great teaching from New Testament Pentecostal Church, Ballynahinch, N. Matthew 13:44-58 | Kingdom Now: The Hidden Treasure, The Pearl & The Net

In this concluding message of Matthew 13, Pastor Karl unpacks the final three parables of Jesus — the Hidden Treasure, the Pearl of Great Price, and the Net — and challenges the common interpretations most of us have grown up hearing.Rather than reading these parables through a modern American lens, Pastor Karl takes us back into a first-century Jewish mindset to uncover what Jesus was really communicating. The treasure hidden in the field isn't something we purchase with our devotion — it's a picture of Jesus himself, who in joy gave everything to redeem his chosen people. The pearl of great price wasn't a treasure to the Jews at all, which is exactly the point: Jesus was revealing the shocking mystery that Gentiles — the unclean, the outsiders — would be included in the kingdom of God. And the parable of the net reminds us that not all roads lead to heaven, and that a day of separation is coming.Pastor Karl also draws a striking connection to the book of Ruth, showing how Boaz purchasing the field to gain Ruth as his bride foreshadowed what Jesus would do for his people — buying the field to possess the treasure within it.The message closes with one of the hardest passages for any pastor to preach at his own church: Jesus returning to his hometown, only to be met with familiarity and low expectation. The takeaway is pointed — low expectation limits reception. The messenger can be overlooked, but the message cannot: God chose to treasure you, not because of anything you offered, but because of the price his Son was willing to pay.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Paul writes an affectionate letter to the community at Philippi, making clear the strong relational bonds they share. He thanks God every time he thinks of them, and he calls them partners in God's grace and preaching the gospel. But what on earth does preaching the gospel mean for Jesus, for Paul, and for us 2000 years later?! Jesus' sense of God's good news was most certainly shaped by the songs of his mama and aunties as he grew inside Mary's womb and nursed at her breast. Mary's revolutionary song inspired his own revolutionary mission statement (from Isaiah, recorded in Luke 4). Sermon begins right away, and is missing the first minute or so acknowledging the history of slavery in this country.Philippians 1.1-18a Resources:BibleWorm podcast: Episode 740 - Proclaiming Christ, Amy Robertson and Robert Williamson, Jr.Philippians 1.3, in all English translations on Bible GatewayAnabaptist Community Bible, Introduction to Philippians by Ryan SchellenbergJulia Ward Howe, Mothers' Day Proclamation (originally known as “Appeal to womanhood throughout the world”), 1870.Christie Dahlin, “Who Holds Us In Our Tenderness: A Mother's Day Post,” Pastor and the Poet, May 10, 2026. Image: Photo by Val Vesa on Unsplash

In this episode, Mark Gillmore reports from Uganda, where the gospel is breaking through long-standing religious strongholds and transforming lives. Through the testimonies of Pastor Michael and Pastor John, we see how God is raising up faithful men, establishing churches, and multiplying the truth across communities. Uganda is not just another mission field—it is a harvest field that is ready right now. Topics Discussed Pastor Michael's journey from religious compromise to biblical conviction The cost of standing for truth, including rejection and excommunication The early struggles of preaching the gospel in resistant religious environments The transformation of Uganda's spiritual landscape over the past 30 years Pastor John's vision for training men to plant churches and reach rural communities The multiplication model of ministry based on 2 Timothy 2:2 The role of radio ministry in reaching people trapped in false religion The importance of training local leaders in their own language and context The need to prioritize doctrinal clarity over mere religious activity The urgency of laborers entering a harvest that is already ripe Key Takeaways The harvest in Uganda is not future, it is present. God is already at work drawing people to Himself. Obedience to truth may come at a cost, but it is the pathway to real fruit. Gospel advance depends on training faithful men who will teach others also. Indigenous leadership is essential for lasting, multiplying ministry. Religious activity without truth leaves people lost. Clear gospel preaching is still needed. God uses simple, faithful efforts to break through even deeply rooted strongholds. There is a real and urgent opportunity to be part of what God is doing in Uganda today. Do you have a story of gospel advance or a burden for a specific people group? We'd love to hear it. Whether it's a few sentences or a detailed update, send it to gomission@theegeneration.org. GoMission, hosted by Mark Gillmore, is a monthly missions-focused program that introduces young people to the people, stories, and opportunities God is using around the world to build His church. If you've been encouraged by this podcast, please take the time to give us a five-star rating and write a brief review. That would help tremendously in getting the word out and raising the visibility of the Thee Generation for others. You can read further details of His test in Matthew 4:1 and Luke 4:1.Next in verses 14-15, Mark writes of the Lord Jesus, after the time when John the Baptist had been arrested and placed in prison. At this time, Jesus came into Galilee, having come back from the wilderness. There He begins to proclaim the Gospel of God. His gospel was to make known the time, then present, that the Kingdom of God has come. People were to repent by believing this gospel. Open your Bible to Mark 1:12. Mike delves into the history surrounding paganism and hedonism in pre-Christian Corinth and the need to encourage the Greeks to leave their old ways of worship. Jeff Morgan, once deeply involved in new age mysticism and driven by a desire for fame, found true freedom after a powerful encounter with Jesus that began through unexpected conversations at the gym. A church retreat and shared spiritual experiences with his wife led them both to surrender their lives to Christ. Now part of Jews for Jesus, Jeff is passionate about reaching the Jewish community with the gospel in a way that's culturally sensitive, compassionate, and rooted in the Jewish context of Scripture. He encourages believers to use terms like Yeshua, reference Old Testament prophecies, and emphasize that faith in Jesus fulfills rather than abandons Jewish identity. Despite occasional persecution, Jeff sees increasing openness among Jewish people and urges Christians to share with both courage and care. Fr. Mike begins by explaining the confusion experienced by the early Christians as they struggled to integrate the Gentiles into the Church. We also hear more about Barnabas, missionary companion of St. Paul, who was named by God as the "Son of Encouragement." Lastly, Fr. Mike delves into the history surrounding paganism and hedonism in pre-Christian Corinth and the need to encourage the Greeks to leave their old ways of worship. In today's reading from Acts, the Holy Spirit guides Peter to initiate ministry to the Gentiles, beginning with the family of Cornelius, a Roman centurion. Upon hearing Peter preach, Cornelius' entire household receive the Holy Spirit and are baptized. Commenting on today's second reading from 1 Corinthians, Fr. Mike reminds us to pursue Christian unity and avoid the dissension and infighting we see in the Church of Corinth. Today's readings are Acts 10, 1 Corinthians 1-2, Proverbs 27:21-22.
