In Ephesians 6:14-18, Paul describes the 7 pieces of God's Armour of God, which He provides to us through His Word for our spiritual warfare. The Breastplate of Righteousness (Isa 59:16) is necessary for guarding the heart. To enter into spiritual warfare, it is vital our heart is under the protection of God's Righteousness (it is the Armour of God). It does not consist of our own righteousness, but the righteousness of Christ. In spiritual warfare, pride is fatal. Instead, we must submit to God and His righteousness, which He gives us by grace (Job 41:34, Luke 10:17-20, Jam 4:6-7), through the Great Exchange (2Cor 5:21). To put on His Breastplate of Righteousness so that it covers and protects our heart, we must submit to His righteousness (Rom 10:3, Phil 3:9). It is attached to the Belt, for it is God's Word which imparts the faith we need to trust in His gift of righteousness. It had 2 parts, a breast and back plate, which correspond to (1) the imputed righteousness of Christ, through which we were justified by faith (Rom 3:28,4:1-8, 5:1, 8:1, Gal 2:16), and (2) the imparted righteousness of Christ (His life and nature) through the Holy Spirit (Rom 5:5, 14:17, Gal 5:22-23, 1Cor 1:30). (1) Through FAITH in Christ and His finished work we are justified, declared forgiven and righteous in Christ. This protects the heart from satan's main weapon – condemnation (Rev 12:10-11, Isa 54:17). (2) The LOVE of Christ filling our souls with His love (Rom 8:4) protects our hearts from evil thoughts. We see these 2 parts of the Breastplate in 1Thess 5:8: “putting on the breastplate of (1) FAITH and (2) LOVE.” We see these 2 kinds of righteousness in: Romans 1:17: “For in the Gospel the righteousness of God is revealed from (1) justifying faith to (2) living faith; as it is written: “The just (by faith) shall live by faith.”

The Lord is certianly not ignorant of our struggles in life, but one of the ways He encourages our hope is to remind us again and again of his soon return. But will it actually be soon? Consider the different ways the pattern of "teaching one another" appears in Scripture (e.g., by word spoken in season (Prov. 25:11); by example of faithfulness in their circumstances (1Thess. 1:5); by wise application for faithfulness in your circumstances (Col. 1:28)). How is this dynamic at work in your life? Some Christians have helpfully thought about running the race, Monday through Saturday, using the acronym "BLESS." Use Colossians 1:24–2:5 as a guide to thinking through the following questions, and how to respond in the coming week: Bless others — especially non-believers, those different from us, and the poor, at least three times a week. Whom can I tangibly bless this week? Listen to God in His Word and Spirit and to others, to understand their stories and our culture's story. One ears open to the Lord; one to the culture — always clear on the direction of travel! To whom should I intentionally listen this week? Eat with others, including unbelievers, believers, and the poor. With whom should I eat this week? Speak to God (prayer) and speak to unbelievers the story and message of Jesus (witness). With whom should I intentionally share the good news this week?Sabbath in rest, play, praise, and celebration. How should I rest this week? Whom should I invite to join me in that rest? ‘The Olivet Prophecy' as most of today's reading of Matthew 24 is known – is full of challenging language about events future to that time.   Jesus in this chapter gives clarity to his parable that we looked at in Ch.22:1-14. In verse 7 talking of the Jews Jesus said ‘when the king heard he was angry and sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and burned up their city”. And so the roman armies destroyed the city of Jerusalem and the temple worship in AD70. Matt.24 is about the destruction of Jerusalem and ultimately the return of Jesus or “his coming'  The key question the disciples asked Jesus was, “What will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?” [v.3]  Part of his answer is to say, “if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved, but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.” [v.22].  The previous verse says, “there will be a time of great tribulation such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now” [v.21]  These verses speak of the very difficult times experienced by the faithful leading up to Jerusalem's overthrow and the close of the Jewish “age”.  Jesus said, “the powers of the heavens will be shaken” [v.29].  And so it was that the Jewish  governing powers or heavens were indeed shaken and the people dispersed throughout the then known world. Verse 31 tells us the angels will be sent out to gather the elect!  The prophecy now 2000 years later after the return of Jesus Christ (V30) the angels are sent out to gather the remnant of Israel (elect) (Rom.11:25-28). Consider that Israel is also called God's “elect” (see Isaiah 42 v.1, 45 v.4, 65 v.9,22) and they now exist again after 1900 years in oblivion, we suspect the reference by Jesus to “the elect” is primarily to them – it is for the sake of Israel that “those days will be cut short” – while the the angels are the glorified saints. (1Thess.4:15-17). God will act for “the elect's sake” but there may well be awesome events to occur as “the angels gather his elect” [v.31].  What will Israel's situation be at this time of world crisis?  In Micah 7 v.18,19 are the words, “Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance … He will again have compassion on us” For ourselves, let us live in a way that will ensure we are among “glorified saints ” spoken of as coming in the clouds of heaven (v30)  because we have established a relationship with him..

Paul writes how the believer is to live in view of the coming of the Day of the Lord. Please note the distinction Paul makes between you and them, you and they, between you and others in verses 5-7. Dr. Mitchell brings out these distinctions through scriptures which speak of the conditions before the day of the Lord and our responsibility during them. He speaks of the application of putting on the breastplate of faith and love and the helmet which is the hope of salvation. Do we have the breastplate of faith in what Scripture says about Jesus and his death for us? Do we have love for Christ and for one another and for all people? The coming of the Lord is a truth that is currently of intense interest among Christians. Here on the Unchanging Word Bible study, Dr. John G. Mitchell gives us truth found in 1 Thessalonians 4:13 through chapter 5:5. In this study, Dr. Mitchell brings out the unique distinction designated by the the Scripture's use of the words, "In Christ" and how it is used in the Bible. These are the words the Apostle Paul uses in 1Thess. chapter 4 verse 16 concerning those who had died.> The Apostle Paul writes two lines of truth in this passage. One line has to do with the coming of the Lord Jesus for His own, the church. The other has to do with the day of the LORD when Christ returns to the earth with His own to set up His kingdom. In this lesson Dr. Mitchell encourages our hearts with the truth of God's Unchanging Word concerning the day of the LORD as it relates to the believers in the risen Son of God, Jesus. So, Paul gives them the divine revelation that the Lord Jesus gave him concerning the rapture. This Biblical revelation gives the believer a divine comfort, a certain hope, a blessed assurance. It is good to have a solid hope and and a current comfort concerning our loved ones who know the Lord but have died. Paul's desire for these Thessalonian believers was that their faith might be perfected and their love would continue to increase and abound, not only for one another but also for all people. He points out the reason for this: It is that the saints will be able to stand in holiness and blame-less before God at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints. Dr. Mitchell speaks on these verses in our lesson today bringing in other relevant verses from the Scriptures to amplify the truth. In these verses, the apostle Paul writes of his desire to see this young church once again but was hindered by Satan from his being able to visit these dear believers. Dr. Mitchell however points out that in spite of the present opposition, this new church would yet be a crown of Paul's ministry, a joy and glory when the Lord Jesus Christ comes again. Dr. Mitchell lists the several crowns listed in Scripture. Each one of us, who know the Lord Jesus Christ has a spiritual gift which the Lord uses to build His church. So remember in 1st Corinthians 15:58 it is written: "Be steadfast, unmovable always abounding in the work of the Lord knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord". In this Part 58 I finish up this Rapture Doctrine Study In closing I want to finish up this study by going into 1 Thessalonians Chapter 5.This verse is connected with what proceeds from Chapter 4. The apostle Paul was comforting the Thessalonians under the loss of their deceased friends by the assurance that both the living and the dead would be gathered together at the advent. The question would naturally arise, "When shall these things be?" (Luke 21:7); and it would appear that the Thessalonians expected an immediate advent. The apostle represses their curiosity on this point by reminding them of the uncertainty of the time of the Lord's coming. I go and read 1 Thess. 4 and comment on these verses. 1   Time = Chronos is rather an extended period, the time in which anything is done. Seasons = kairos a definite space of time. Ye have no need that I write unto you = That is, they had received all the information on the particular point to which Paul refers, which it was necessary they should have. 2       For yourselves know perfectly; = namely, not from Scripture, nor from oral tradition, but from the teaching of the apostle when in Thessalonica. Perfectly = ak-ree-boce'; exactly, precisely          That the day of the Lord. = "The day of the Lord" is a common Old Testament expression, denoting the coming of the Divine judgments. The idea of judgment is contained in the term "day." 3   For when they shall say, Peace and safety = That is, when the wicked shall say this, for the apostle here refers only to those on whom “sudden destruction” will come. Sudden destruction = Destruction that was unforeseen (αἰφνίδιος  aiphnidios) or unexpected. As travail upon a woman with child = This expression is sometimes used to mean great dismay, as in Psa. 48:6; Jerm. 6:24; Micah 4:9-10; great pain, as Isa. 53:11; And they shall not escape = That is, the destruction, or punishment. 4   But ye. = “Though the world (which lieth in darkness) may be surprised at the coming of the Day, you, members of the ek-kelsia, living in the light, cannot be surprised.” not in darkness = not in darkness of understanding (that is, spiritual ignorance) or of the moral nature (that is, a state of sin), Eph. 4:18. that = Greek, “in order that”; with Yahweh results are all purposed. that day = Greek, “THE day”; the day of the Lord (Hebrews 10:25, “the day”), in contrast to “darkness.” overtake = kat-al-am-ban'-o; to take eagerly, that is, seize, possess, etc. (literally or figuratively): - apprehend, attain, come upon, comprehend, find, obtain, perceive, (over-) take, unexpectedly (compare John 12:35). as a thief = klep'-tace; a stealer (literally or figuratively) The two oldest manuscripts read, “as (the daylight overtakes) thieves” (Job 24:17). 5   Ye are all the children of light = All who are Christians, members of the ek-kelsia. And the children of the day = Who live as if light always shone round about them. 6   Sleep = here is worldly lack of concern to spiritual things (Rom. 13:11; Eph. 5:14); others = Greek, “the rest” of the world: the unconverted (1Thess. 4:13). watch = for Yahshua Messiah's coming; literally, “be wakeful.” be sober = nay'-fo; to abstain from wine (keep sober), that is, (figuratively) be discreet. If you're just reading through Acts and come across these few verses about Thessalonica, you might be left with the impression the mission there was something of a failure. Paul, Silas and Timothy were only in the city for a short period of time. Some people came to Christ, but it wasn't long before fierce persecution arose and the missionaries were forced to flee, leaving these new believers on their own. It would be natural to assume that when left alone without the apostles to guide them, and facing the fury of a hostile community, these new believers might have renounced their faith or, at least, stopped speaking openly about their faith.  That's what you might assume if you just read this passage, but that's not all we know. Paul wrote two letters to them within probably a few months of his departure. He, too, was worried, so he sent Timothy back to check on them. And when Timothy returned and reported what he found (Ac 18:5; 1Thess 3:1-8), Paul was thrilled, and wrote the letter we call First Thessalonians, and shortly after that he heard the church was confused about the Lord's return, so he wrote Second Thessalonians. What we discover when we read these letters is not a church struggling to survive. Instead, we discover people that are thriving and spreading the gospel over the entire region. How is that possible? What on earth did these missionaries do to those people? What kind of seed did they plant in their hearts that would keep growing even without mature leadership and in the midst of persecution? Frankly, the result of the mission to Thessalonica is a miracle. Under normal circumstances that church shouldn't have survived. But it did, and it grew…and we need to discover why. Because whatever those apostles taught or did to those people that produced such lasting life-change, we need to teach and do for those we lead to Christ.

One of the ways to keep our appreciation of Christ's death fresh is to learn more about the cross. In this episode we learn that one of the reasons Christ died on the cross was to be our Christus Victor. When we view the story of the Bible from this lens, the incarnation becomes an invasion, Golgotha a battlefield, and the cross becomes the Snake Crusher's mighty death blow to the head of the serpent. At the cross, Christ not only died for us, but also fought for us. And conquered by dying! The essence of discipleship is a love relationship with the Lord Jesus (Matt 22:37-38, Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27). A true disciple loves the Lord and seeks to express that in his life by pleasing and glorifying Him. This is not a legalism, but the obedience of love. The keeping of commandments is an expression of love (John 14:15). Without the motivation of love our Christian life just becomes outward performance, and loses its meaning and excitement, but when we live in an overflow of love, it is all joy. The motivation of a true disciple is loving the Lord, so the heart must first be converted to Christ through the Gospel. The purpose and effect of the Gospel is to win our hearts to Christ, bringing us into a love relationship with Him, in which we receive His love, causing us to give our love (heart) to Him (Rev 2:2-5). Mary demonstrated this love, manifested in worship, when she anointed Jesus (Mark 14:3-6, John 12:3-5). He connected her act of extravagant love with the preaching of the Gospel (Mark 14:9), as it demonstrated its purpose - the total conversion of our heart, so that we give Him our heart, love, devotion, worship, surrender, and life. God's love for us is extravagant, excessive and uninhibited, so our only appropriate response is to return that same kind of love to Him, giving Him our whole heart. That is the response the Divine Lover desires from His Bride. His love for us is prodigal (over the top, excessive, plenty too much) - Luke 15:20. The joy to which Jesus looked forward, that sustained Him through the Cross, was to have our heart, so we would be united with Him forever (Hebrews 12:2). True discipleship (obedience to Christ and His Word) follows on and flows out from a converted heart of love for the Lord, the fruit of the Gospel. Its essence is loving the Lord. It is the outworking of our love relationship with Christ, in the details of our life. Once we love Him, we want to please Him, to be like Him and do what He says. A disciple is a dedicated follower of Christ and learner of His Word, which teaches us how to live a life that glorifies Him. All true believers are His disciples, which is why Christians were originally called Disciples. It is not an optional extra. You can't receive Christ without your life changing and starting on the life of discipleship. If you are not a disciple, your heart is unconverted, and you are unsaved. Without true conversion, there can be no true life of discipleship. The 2 STAGES of (1) the personal conversion of our heart to Christ, through the Gospel, followed by (2) a lifestyle of discipleship correspond to the 2 PARTS of the Great Commission: (1) preaching the Gospel (the Good News of His love) unto salvation (Mark 16:15-16), and (2) making disciples by teaching His Word (Matthew 28:19-20). (1) The Gospel is designed to convert hearts to the Person of Jesus, not to a religion. Conversion is sealed by water baptism, the first ordained response of a convert, by which he publicly declares his faith, love and commitment to Christ. (2) This initial act of obedience also officially marks him out as one who has entered into a new life as a disciple, who follows Christ, learning and obeying His Word. The 2 parts of the Great Commission are connected by baptism. Part 1 results in baptism, and baptism is the initial official act of part 2. The heart of the Gospel is the declaration, revealing God's amazing unconditional LOVE for us (John 3:16), designed to convert our heart to loving God: “We LOVE Him, because He first LOVED us” (1John 4:19, Rom 5:8). The more we realise how much He has forgiven us, the more we will love Him (Luke 7:47). Trusting in His saving love, results in us giving (surrendering) our hearts to Him, receiving Him as our Lord and committing our lives to Him. We are His beloved Bride (2Cor 11:2-3). This devotion is created by Christ declaring His wonderful saving love for us in the Gospel. When we believe in His love for us, it produces love in our hearts for Him, so that we want to be with Him, be like Him, serve Him, glorify Him, and be united with Him forever. FAITH in Christ begets LOVE for Him, both of which together produce HOPE, the vision of a glorious future with Him (1Cor 13:13, 1Thess 1:9-10). This love of God in Christ for us began in eternity past, when God chose (foreknew, set His love on us, Jer 31:3, John 15:16). He loved us from eternity and will love us forever. In His love, He predestined us to glory, and then effectually called us to Himself by the Gospel, so that when we received Christ, He justified us (forgave us, put us into right-standing with Himself, and declared us righteous, based on the imputed righteousness of Christ). Justification then put us on the path of sanctification, where His Spirit changes us to become more like Jesus, through His imparted righteousness and life, as we trust in Him and obey Him, which will result in our glorification, when we are fully united with God (Romans 8:29-30).

In this continuing study I take a look at the Rapture Doctrine. Is this a Pre-Trib, as taught in most main stream Churches are do Christians go through the Tribulation Period? I compare Thessalonians to Matthew 24 along with Revelation. I venture into Paul's writings to explore what he has to say, along with what Yahweh says in Ezekiel. I also ask the listeners to grab a pencil and paper as we create charts for comparison as we get deeper into this study.  In this Part 55 I continue our study in this Matthew 24 verse 43, however I go to Rev, 17:12I do a quick recap on what we have learned about this so called pre-trib rapture doctrineI go back to Matthew 24 verse 3 to the 3 questions that His disciples asked HimTake note that there is NOT ONE VERSE that we covered so far that describes a Pre-Trib Rapture! Rev. 17:12Back to Matthew 24:4545   This passage is, in fact, “a parable,” though it is not expressly so called. The design is to show that Yahshua Messiah's disciples should act as if they were each moment expecting his return. This he illustrates by the conduct of a servant who did not expect his master soon to return, who acted with great impropriety, and who was accordingly punished. Who, then, is a faithful and wise servant ... = ‘doo'-los' From ‘deh'-o'; a slave The question is directed to His disciples, which are you and me! By the conduct of a faithful and wise servant Yahshua intends to denote a faithful Christian, a servant of Yahweh, or a teacher of religion. Whom his lord = ‘koo'-ree-os' His master. Over his household = His family. Christian ministers are the servants of Yahweh appointed over the church, the family of Yahshua Messiah, 1Thess. 5:12-13; 1Corin. 3:5; 4:1-2; 12:28. Meat in due season = ‘trof-ay' "Meat" being put by Figure of speech Metonymy (Me-ton´-y-my The Change of one Noun for another Related Noun) (of Adjunct; a thing (or person) joined to another) for all kinds of food. Therefore the word “meat” here means food of all kinds. When the Bible was translated into English, the word included, as the original does, all kinds of provisions requisite to support and nourish life. In due season = As they need it, or in the accustomed times.I   THE FAITHFUL AND WISE SERVANT. 1. His character. No doubt his known faithfulness and wisdom furnish the reasons for his appointment to an important office. (1) The first essential is faithfulness. (2) The second essential is wisdom.  2. His trust. (1) A post of responsibility. (2) A post of useful service. 3. His conduct. He simply does what is required of him. His Master finds him "so doing." 4. His reward. This is in the form of promotion. II             THE EVIL SERVANT. 1. His excuse. "My lord tarrieth." This is but a thought of his heart, yet it bears fatal fruit in his life, evidently the miserable man is an "eye servant."  2. His evil conduct. (1) Cruelty. He beats his fellow servants. He abuses his position of trust. (2) Intemperance. The man is oppressive and ill-tempered, because he is weak and self-indulgent. 3. His shock of surprise. Because his lord tarried, he began to think he should never be called to account. 4. His awful doom. To such a man, and not to the abandoned outcast, Yahshua Messiah threatens the most fearful punishment. Have any questions? Feel free to email me at keitner@netzero.net
