The Wake. Dad. Drink. Repeat. podcast is an incredible listen for any father looking to be the best dad they can be. With level-headed discussions and interviews with diverse dads, Anthony and Michael do an excellent job as hosts, making this podcast a must-listen for fathers everywhere. I stumbled upon this podcast during a family road trip and quickly became hooked, listening to older episodes on the drive back home. It has since become my favorite podcast during the pandemic, and I look forward to starting my Monday mornings with it while working from home.
One of the best aspects of The Wake. Dad. Drink. Repeat. podcast is the hosts' ability to engage in thoughtful conversations about fatherhood with their guests. Anthony and Michael bring a unique perspective to each discussion, showcasing their passion for being great dads themselves. They create a welcoming and down-to-earth atmosphere that allows guests from diverse backgrounds and age ranges to share their experiences and insights into fatherhood.
Another great aspect of this podcast is its relevance and timeliness. No matter what stage of dad-hood you find yourself in, you will relate to the topics discussed because they are timeless in nature. The perspectives shared by the guests provide valuable insights into various aspects of being a dad, helping listeners navigate the challenges of parenthood.
One possible downside to The Wake. Dad. Drink Repeat. podcast is that it may not appeal as much to non-dads or those without children of their own. While I personally found value in it as an uncle, some episodes might be more relevant to listeners who are actively involved in parenting.
In conclusion, The Wake. Dad. Drink Repeat. podcast is a fantastic resource for fathers seeking inspiration and guidance on their journey as dads. With engaging conversations, relevant topics, and a touch of humor, Anthony and Michael have created an enjoyable listening experience that will leave you feeling encouraged and motivated in your role as a father or parent figure.
I'm excited to share a special episode with you from The Travis Macy Show. Travis recently sat down with Kari Loya for a conversation that will leave you reflecting on your relationship with your father and children. Kari is the author of the book Conversations Across America which is about a 73-day, 4,600-mile cross-country bike trip Kari took in 2015 with his 75-year-old dad, Merv, who had early-stage Alzheimer's. As I was editing this episode for Travis' show I found myself reflecting about my dad, some of the many adventures we have had together, and how fragile that all felt last summer when he was diagnosed with cancer againThere is a moment at the end of Kari and Travis' chat that just about killed me. I'm reminded how lucky I am to have the relationship with my dad (truly with both my parents) that I have, and if you are lucky enough to feel the same - I hope this conversation moves those same feelings in you. Please be sure to check out the Travis Macy Show for more inspiring conversations like this one - and also grab a copy of Kari's book! For this Father's Day episode of the podcast, I sat down with my dad Mike “Pappy” Palmer to have a real heartfelt conversation about family, parenting, and life. We sat down over a glass of bourbon and covered a lot of ground - from our experiences raising kids and being grandparents, to how family dynamics have changed over the generations.Dad shared his perspective on the differences between being a parent and being a grandparent, which was really interesting to hear. We also got a little deep talking about coping with his cancer diagnosis last year and what that was like for both of us as a parent and child. Dad had some really wise insights about preparing kids for life's ups and downs. I really enjoyed talking with dad about how we each define success at this stage in life. I'm really thankful I was able to sit down and have this talk with dad and hope you enjoy it! - - - - - - - - - -Anthony Palmer on InstagramPalm Tree Pod Co. Website | InstagramWake. Dad. Drink. I'm really excited to bring you this conversation I got to have with my good friend and the host of the Travis Macy Show, Travis Macy, and legendary mountain guide and adventurer Jason Antin. You may know Jason from his incredible Beat Monday series where he and former WDDR guest Mike Chambers take on epic outdoor challenges in 64 hours from Friday evening to Monday morning. I've wanted to have Jason on the show for a long time, and I am glad Travis could join us for this chat. I love hearing from endurance athletes about how they can apply the grit and determination they learn from their training and adventures to parenting and vice versa. We got some great insights from Jason on topics like pushing kids into activities, specializing versus sampling sports, and how Jason manages risk both as a guide and a dad. Jason also shared lessons he's taken from his many adventures on living passionately while prioritizing family responsibilities. I think you'll really enjoy this conversation and I hope you take away from it as much as I did. If you haven't already please make sure to go check out The Travis Macy Show wherever you are listening to this podcast. I feel fortunate to call Travis a friend and to produce his podcast. Travis is a great podcast host and I feel like I have grown a little every week when I get done listening to his show, and I think that is pretty cool. I first met Dr. Scott Frey when editing an episode of Choose The Hard Way hosted by Andrew Vontz and was immediately drawn to his story. Scott is an award-winning scientist, mentor, husband, father, and lifelong endurance athlete with over 30 years of experience at the forefront of research on the relationship between the human brain, our thoughts, and behaviors. Today, Scott joins me to discuss the lessons he has learned from parenting his children and stepchildren, how he approached raising his kids with an openness to diversity, and the challenges of navigating technology use as a family in today's world. We also touch on defining success and finding purpose beyond achievements or possessions. I really enjoyed this chat with Scott and appreciate his thoughtful perspective on parenting, childhood development, and living with intention. As you know my goal with this show is to have real and vulnerable conversations about the life we live as dads. A big thanks to Scott for doing just that and sharing his story this week.We will be back in 2024 with new episodes and I am really looking forward to it! I am really excited to share this conversation with Alex Palmer. And even though we have the same last name and an almost identical accent - we are not related. In this episode, Alex and I talk about what it is like to experience a difficult pregnancy, fertility treatments, miscarriages, IVF and many of the other challenges that can come with trying to get pregnant - from the male perspective. As listeners of this show will likely know, this subject is very personal to me and one that I feel is very important for men to talk about. Alex and I talk about how lonely and one-sided the process can feel for men and why we feel it is so important for men to talk to other men about what they're going through. Alex and I recorded this conversation this summer, so you will hear him talking about being pregnant during this conversation. I am happy to report that in early November Alex and his wife Gretchen's baby boy joined them and they are all doing well and are properly sleep-deprived! Alex is the founder and host of The Fellowman Podcast (formerly the Blackdog Cast) and does great work over there so be sure to check it out. My goal with this show is to have real conversations about the life we experience as dads. A big thanks to Alex for getting vulnerable and sharing his story. It has been almost a year - a YEAR! - since our last Wake.Dad.Drink.Repeat. episode dropped and we are kicking things back off with a very special story. This week on the pod, Phillip McCall joins me for a very deep and personal conversation about the journey that he, his wife Erin, and their son Wade have been on since 2021.While Erin was pregnant, their son Wade was diagnosed with Bladder Outlet Obstruction (BOO). While their story is filled with challenges, anxiety, setbacks, and periods of mourning - it is also full of love and support and has left Phillip with a deep understanding in the power of opening up, sharing, and “letting people in.” Phillip and I talked about miscarriages and the emotional and mental struggles men face during difficult pregnancies. We also discussed finding peace in chaos and navigating major challenges with our healthcare system. Plus, Phillip shares powerful stories about how they nurtured their marriage relationship while their son was in the NICU. For a deeper dive into the Mcall's story you can check out their blog here. This story is a perfect example of why I started this show, and I am so grateful to be back with each of you. Thanks for tuning in. This week on the pod, Palmer is joined by Mike Watts. Mike is a dad to two, has a killer accent and is really good at breathing. Ok - so that sounds a little wild, but its true. In this episode Palmer and Mike chat about: -human performance vs. athlete performance and how they relate-Mike defines functional breathing-high performance habits (breath, how we think, how we feel, sleep, how we nourish ourselves, etc) and why Mike started working on these-Mike shares a couple different breath work activities-Leadership-and a ton more! This was a really fun conversation and we hope you feel as inspired as we did while recording. Inspired not only to prioritize breath work in your life, but to think about your high performance habits and how dialing them in can help you to be a better leader and more present for your family. He is a songwriter and has played with the likes of Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and more. He and his family own Bales Farm, where they raise grass-fed/grass-finished beef, pasture-raised chicken, pasture-raised pork, and free-range eggs. Barry and his wife, Aliceson, were kind enough to have us out to the farm to record this episode. We sat outside on one of their porches and talked over a glass of bourbon on a beautiful East Tennessee day. Barry and Palmer talked about the importance of knowing when and what life lessons to teach our kids and the mediums to use when teaching, about his time as a child growing up on the farm, and the love and admiration he had for his grandfather, and the challenges of managing our own expectations of what we want for our kids. They talked a bit about the music industry and some of the changes Barry has seen during his time in it and spent the last part of the conversation talking about regenerative farming, why they practice it at Bales Farm, and why we need to see changes happening in our farming and food culture. We are mixing things up a bit this week - and doing a Monday drop! We are doing this because the guest this week is, me! Travis Macy is back on the pod but this time as host. The pod has grown a lot over the last year, and last week's guest (Chris Baddick), had a great idea for me to reintroduce myself to the audience and dive into my fatherhood story a bit. I thought it was a great idea and really enjoyed recording this episode. When I was trying to decide who to get to help me with this, Travis was the first name that came to mind. Not only is he the host of the Travis Macy Show, but Travis is a friend, a client, and someone who I have really come to admire and have a lot of respect for as a human. A huge thanks to him for taking over the show. Please be sure to head over this his pod, subscribe and leave it a review! Don't fear - Wake. Dad. Drink. Repeat. is back just in time for Father's Day! Chris Baddick joins Palmer this week on the pod for a conversation that focuses on untangling the whirlwind of life - and embracing the lessons learned along the way. Chris is a dad to two young girls, a former professional mountain biker, and a lover of all things outside. Things get deep quick in this week's episode, with a conversation about Chris' father-in-law being diagnosed with ALS and how that event pushed him and his wife to leave the life they knew so that they could run the family business and live closer to family. Chris and Palmer discuss cycling, spending time outside with kids, the "10-minute miracle" (it's not what you think it is), how Chris defines success, and much more. This week on the pod I am joined by Michael Friedberg! Michael is a dad to one, former US Ski Team Member & World Cup athlete, and an incredibly good human. Michael and I talk a lot about the respect, admiration and love we have for our dads on this pod, about his journey as a dad, and about the recent Marshall fire in Boulder, Co. Michael, his wife Rachel, and their daughter Darwin lost their home and all their belongings in the recent fire and as unimaginably challenging as that is, they have been wrapped in love and support by family, friends, and the Boulder community. Even though it is a story full of sadness, it is also one full of beauty, hope and kindness-something that feels to be missing in so much of the dialogue in today's society. If you would like to contribute to the GoFundMe discussed in the episode to support the Friedberg family; the link is in our show notes. This week on the pod we are joined by dad to two, a habitual podium finisher in ultra marathons and a staunch lover of family and nature - Dominic Grossman. Dominic and I talked about the journey of balancing our priorities as humans (work, training, our relationships, etc) with our priorities as parents, the search for “success”, how adversity can help us to grow and show us our path and the many similarities between ultra running and life (and life as a parent). We also covered the importance of supporting (and being supported by) our partners and laughed at how our wives tend to be the “victims of our indirect actions”. This week on the pod we are joined by dad to one, Co-Host/Producer THEMOVE and JB2 with WEDŪ Sports and Lance Armstrong, JB Hager! We get into JB's journey with his daughter, Raleigh, not just as a 2x Women's Pro Wakesurf World Champion but also about her mental health. This is a very personal and real episode, where JB and I talk about what it is like as a parent to watch your child struggle with mental health, how scary and hopeless it feels at times, the strains in causes on your relationships, and (probably most importantly) about what it is like to move to the “other side” of that journey. A huge thanks to JB for coming on the pod and sharing their story and listening to ours. To all of you - if you are ever experiencing these types of challenges and struggles in your life, please know that talking to people about it really does help! Whether that is a professional, a family member, or a friend - knowing you have a support network of your own is so important. You will hear JB and me talk about this alot. If anyone out there is ever needing someone to talk to, I am always happy to share my experiences on this journey and to lend an ear. While we cover the mental health piece for most of this episode we also talk about WEDŪ, THEMOVE and THEFORWARD podcast, cycling, Operation Get Out, music, the perfect margarita and much more. This week on the pod we are joined by David Spitz. David is a dad to three, a husband, Owner and CEO of California Strength, lifelong coach and (in his own words) “former athlete - turned fat guy - turned fit guy”. We had a great chat with David about his life as a Today’s Dad, his journey to creating Cal Strength and his own personal journey back to a life of fitness. We also talk about their new strength program, Ripped and Ready, that is perfect for dads looking to get back in shape or keep their fitness journey moving forward. David was kind enough to give our listeners 20% their first month of the program using the code “WDDR”. David shared a great Today’s Dad definition that focused on the ability to be multi-purpose in your role and being sure to prioritize yourself and your relationship with your spouse. The biggest takeaway from our chat with David was his motto of “never do nothing” and the importance of love and gratitude. A big thanks to David for joining us on the pod this week! This week on the pod we are joined by Dr. Allen Rigell! Allen is a dad to one, a husband, an Adult Outpatient Psychiatrist and Palmer’s Psychiatrist. We had Allen on the pod to discuss mental health for dads and men and really had a great conversation! Allen’s Today’s Dad definition was all about the different hurdles that come with all the different phases of fatherhood and how a Today’s Dad looks to the Tom Hanks that has been stranded on the island for years for advice about fatherhood instead of the Tom Hanks that just washed ashore. He also spoke about being in “autopilot” mode as a parent and partner and the balance of that. We talk about a lot on the pod this week, but the biggest take away we hope you get is that it is good to ask for help or a place to talk when you need it. We use this pod as an outlet to share our experiences and know the benefit of talking about the ups and downs of life. A big thanks to Allen for joining us on the pod and sharing his experiences with us.Episode Affiliates:A Kids Book About: They Make Kids Books That Matter: Click here to learn more.Honey: Click here to start saving now.In This Episode: Guest’s Show Notes & Today’s Dad Definition - http://www.wakedaddrinkrepeat.com/podcast/dr-allen-rigellDrinks:Dr. Allen - Low Pitch Hi-wirePalmer - Jefferson’s OceanMichael - WoodfordMusic:Performed and written by Jordan BurrisProduced by Jordan Burris & Asher SmithSubscribe:Apple Podcast - https://apple.co/2Tt9FkaSpotify - https://spoti.fi/2MfPPI3Stitcher - http://bit.ly/2McLrJVGoogle Podcast - http://bit.ly/2MemDS4Check us out at: Wake. Welcome to the February 2021 Rickhouse. The home of the ever maturing Today’s Dad definition! The goal of Wake. Dad. Drink. Repeat. is to “define Today’s Dad”...we do this by asking our guest to share their definition at the top of every show. We store these definitions week after week on our podcasts, YouTube channel, in our RICKHOUSE on our website, social media platforms and we constantly highlight them. Our Rickhouse is our way of distilling our information into a tasty blend to share. These episodes will drop the last Friday of every month, adding to the ever maturing and complexity that is a "Today's Dad" ~ EnjoyIn This Episode:Enter the Rickhouse: wakedaddrinkrepeat.com/rickhouseRickhouse February 2021 Show Notes - http://www.wakedaddrinkrepeat.com/podcast/rickhouse-february-2021February 2021 guests:#78: Justin Gill - Bachan’s, Bringing Families Together and Hardwork#79:Chase Novelich - The Father Son Bond, Pokemon, and PowerDot#80: Another Round with Chris ChafinMusic:Performed and written by Jordan Burris.Produced by Jordan Burris & Asher Smith.Subscribe:Apple Podcast - https://apple.co/2Tt9FkaSpotify - https://spoti.fi/2MfPPI3Stitcher - http://bit.ly/2McLrJVGoogle Podcast - http://bit.ly/2MemDS4Check us out at: Wake.
