The level of excitement, fun and adventure that Lachlan has brought to the world of cycling is incredibaly inspiring. He has opened the door for adventure and fun all while setting his own rules racing things and setting new boundaries in the sport of cycling. Thank you Lachlan for inspiring us to go farther, have fun and showing people there is more to see on a bike. Lachlan embraced the EF Education-NIPPO's alternative calendar wholeheartedly, racing all four races on our 2019 alternative calendar — Dirty Kanza, Leadville 100, GBDuro and Three Peaks Cyclocross. He also rode the iconic Colorado Trail (850 kilometers) in just under four hours (3 days, 22 minutes) to raise funds for Australia's Starlight Foundation. In 2020, Lachlan continued to chase alternative calendar events and completed the imphamous 700 Kilometer Badlands race in 44 hours. Oh and he did that after taking a combined 15 minutes off the bike throughout the event. For Lachlan, racing for EF Education-NIPPO has offered him a perfectly crafted bridge, linking his World Tour goals with his thirst for exploration and new challenges.Lachlan's approach to professional cycling has been, well, alternative. He raced with us from 2011-2014, first on the development team and then for Garmin-Sharp, before opting out of the WorldTour in pursuit of off-the-beaten path adventures. Those adventures included several long expeditions with his brother Gus and filming the “Thereabouts” documentaries, in partnership with Rapha. The rides and the filmmaking allowed Lachlan and Gus to connect with the bike, each other and other people in a different ways. And for Lachlan, these connections are at the crux of why he rides. That's not to say Lachlan doesn't like to win. He does. He's as competitive as as any of his teammates, and he as the results to prove it. Last season, Lachlan won the fifth stage of the 2019 Tour of Utah one week after completing (and podiuming) at his first Leadville 100. follow him at @lachlanmortonQ&A with LachlanWhat animal best describes you?WhippetTravel must have?Instant coffeeAdvice for new travelers?Go slowly. Don't go too many places. Spend more time really getting to know a single place.Favorite city?Sydney. It was the first big city I visited. I still feel like I don't totally know it.Favorite cycling moment? That's a difficult one. I think riding to the middle of Australia with my brother is my nicest bike experience. In terms of racing, winning the Tour of Utah was definitely special. My family was there. My brother was on the team. My wife was there. Pretty cool.

Welcome to another episode of the Dialed Health Podcast, which also happens to be a very special conversation I had with EF Racing's very own Neilson Powless. If you don't know Neilson, in my opinion he is one of our best cyclist in the world, and it was so awesome having the opportunity to ask him anything I wanted. He gave me a pro-perspective on both racing and training, where he taught me things I wasn't even aware of! He dives deep into his perspective on nutrition while training, behind the scenes of the typical race experience, a recap of both Tour de France and the World Championships, his personal off-bike training routine, and so much more! Plus, we have an awesome round of rapid fire questions he answers at the end, including is doping still happening in the Peloton or is it a thing of the distant past? How does his body weight fluctuate throughout the season? A non-biking question: How is your chess game? Who would you ride a tandem bike with? Neilson burst onto the United States road racing scene as a 19-year-old and found instant success, finishing ninth overall at the 2016 Amgen Tour of California and winning a stage at the Tour de l'Avenir. Those results shot him to the WorldTour where his adaptability accelerated his learning curve. The 23-year-old spent his rookie seasons (2018-2019) racing for Lotto-Jumbo, joining EF Education-NIPPO in 2020 where he continued to impress with his breakaway performances at the Tour de France. Although it was a quiet day on the Vuelta a España there's plenty for Daniel Friebe, Richard Moore and Lionel Birnie to talk about. They discuss the sprint finish and a second victory for Fabio Jakobsen before reflecting on some comments from EF Education-Nippo sports director Juanma Garate about Hugh Carthy, who withdrew from the race yesterday. We ponder the impact of pressure and leadership responsibility following an excellent result – Carthy was third in last year's Vuelta – and whether general classification contenders sometimes have to take a step back before moving forwards. The finish town of Mar Menor has been battling ecological disaster over the past couple of years and there were some protests from people hoping the Vuelta's visit would shed some light on the issue. While it's understandable the Grand Tours want to show off the best of the areas they pass through we discuss whether the sport also has a responsibility to help publicise important issues. It's a bit of a different episode of Life in the Peloton this week because instead of chatting to someone in the world of professional cycling, I decided to document a bikepacking ride I went on a few weeks ago. As many of you will know, my team – EF Education-Nippo – has embraced all sorts of cycling events in the past couple of years. You might have followed Lachlan Morton's Alternative Tour de France, for example. My adventure in Sweden came about partly thanks to our team's helmet and glasses sponsor POC. They heard I was interested in taking on a different sort of challenge and they suggested an self-supported event that takes riders the length of Sweden. It's called the Sverigetempot, a road ride of more than 2,000 kilometres from Riksgränsen in the north to Smygehuk in the south. I joined up with Magnus and Damien for the ride, which took us seven days, and I documented the journey along the way, so I hope you enjoy listening to our adventures. Then, we break down all the action from the summit finish on stage 18, which saw Tadej Pogačar bang the nail into the coffin of his rivals. Plus, Ineos Grenadiers appears to be in a free fall during this disastrous tour. Finally, reporters asked Pogačar about his relationship with team manager Mauro Gianetti, who has previously worked with riders implicated in doping. What does Pogačar's statement tell us about the current generation's ties to cycling's past? Then, coach Nate Wilson of EF Education-Nippo joins the podcast to discuss the ever changing pathway for U.S. riders to get to the Tour de France. And it has played part to truly tragic moments. Infamously, its summit was the site where Tom Simpson collapsed and died in the 1967 Tour de France. In this special episode dedicated to this mountain that beckons like few others in cycling, we speak to riders who love it, and those who would rather never visit it again. EF Education–Nippo team boss Jonathan Vaughters, who once held the record up the climb, joins to discuss his days racing the climb and what to expect this year. Later, Tom Simpson's daughter, Joanne, shares memories of her late father.OJ Borg hosts this in-depth look at the mountain, and is joined by Tour de France correspondent for the Guardian Jeremy Whittle, whose obsession with Ventoux dates back decades and led him to write a book, “Ventoux: Sacrifice and Suffering on the Giant of Provence.” Later, his colleague William Fotheringham shares an excerpt from his book, “Put Me Back on My Bike: In Search of Tom Simpson.”This is a can't-miss episode for any cycling fan as we head into the stage 11 double ascent of Ventoux on July 7. Aérogramme is presented by Hyperice.

This week's Nerd Alert episode takes a closer look at two recent events in this year's Tour de France. In stage 1, Jumbo-Visma rider Steven Kruijswijk finished the stage missing an entire seatstay from his prototype Cervelo, and in stage 5, EF Education-Nippo riders tackled the stage 5 individual time trial on a new Cannondale TT bike. We chat with Cervelo to find out how that bike could have possibly survived — and apparently without Kruijswijk even knowing! — and get some tantalizing tech details from Cannondale on that new bike before its official release. Sorry, folks, this one's pretty long, but we promise it'll be worth your time.

For this episode of Life in the Peloton, I chatted to Simon Mottram, who founded Rapha back in 2004. I was really interested to hear what drove him to start the company and particularly his comment that Rapha is not a clothing company, it's a cycling company.Simon's passion for cycling shines through and it's fair to say that Rapha has changed the way we think about style on the bike. As you probably know my team, EF Education-Nippo, wears Rapha kit and so I wanted to find out more about the man who puts the jerseys on our backs.Cheers,MitchLife in the Peloton playlistKeep in touch with Life in the PelotonKeep up to date with everything that's going on with Life in the Peloton at my website lifeinthepeloton.comLife in the Peloton shopCheck out my range of Life in the Peloton merchandise on our Etsy store too, from beanies and caps to embroidered tees, logo tees and much more.
