You know how everyone keeps asking me if I'm going to talk politics on this show? Well, I'm not going to tell you what to think, but I am going to challenge you to think. This episode isn't about the Trump vs. Kamala drama, but what the recent election means for folks like us. I asked my friend and producer Anthony Palmer to sit down and talk about the complexities of voter behavior and the importance of empathy in our political conversations.Despite our differences, our chat reveals how much we actually share—like wanting safe schools and affordable healthcare. We also talk about why listening and understanding each other might just be the key to bridging our divides. This isn't your typical political rant; it's about finding common ground in a polarized world. It's time to think differently and maybe find some hope in our shared goals.- - - - - - - - - - -Liz Durham Instagram | WebsiteSubscribe Apple Podcast | SpotifyBeing Different with Liz Durham is a Palm Tree Pod Co. production

For this Father's Day episode of the podcast, I sat down with my dad Mike “Pappy” Palmer to have a real heartfelt conversation about family, parenting, and life. We sat down over a glass of bourbon and covered a lot of ground - from our experiences raising kids and being grandparents, to how family dynamics have changed over the generations.Dad shared his perspective on the differences between being a parent and being a grandparent, which was really interesting to hear. We also got a little deep talking about coping with his cancer diagnosis last year and what that was like for both of us as a parent and child. Dad had some really wise insights about preparing kids for life's ups and downs. I really enjoyed talking with dad about how we each define success at this stage in life. I'm really thankful I was able to sit down and have this talk with dad and hope you enjoy it! - - - - - - - - - -Anthony Palmer on InstagramPalm Tree Pod Co. Website | InstagramWake. Dad. Drink. **Warning - This episode talks in some detail about topics including fertility treatment, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancies so please consider this if you are triggered by any of these.** If you've listened to any previous episodes of the pod, you'll know that breaking the stigma around men's mental health and getting more men talking about this stuff is something that I believe is incredibly important. While, in general I think we're doing a better job talking about men's mental health there are still some topics related to men's health & wellness in general that are not talked about. One of these is the whole area of having kids, and specifically what happens when this does not happen naturally. Topics such as infertility (in both men and women) IVF, adoption and surrogacy are impacting more and more couples these days, but if my own experience is anything to go by, most men find themselves navigating these challenges with little in the way of support from other men who have been through it before. I've been conscious of wanting to talk about this for a while on the podcast, but it's taken a while to find the right time and person to explore this with. Well, I'm really pleased that the time is now right, both as my wife and I have reached the happy conclusion of our own fertility journey, and I found the right co-host to explore this in more detail along with his own story. I'm joined by Anthony Palmer, who while not related shares a passion for men's mental health & wellness through his Wake, Dad, Drink Repeat podcast, so we decided to team up for this episode that will go out on both feeds. So, have a listen as we dig into both of our experiences with IVF, adoption & surrogacy and most importantly share this episode with a Fellowman who may be going through something similar and needs support. Six years ago, I launched Choose the Hard Way to inspire more people to embrace the idea that doing hard things builds stronger humans who have more fun. My guests are among the very best in the world at what they do and I've been lucky that they've graciously shared their stories here. To celebrate 100 episodes, I'm doing something different and sharing more of my story--a story about a friendship that has pushed me to do hard things for 15 years and counting. This podcast isn't about hacks, tricks and shortcuts. It's about the powerful things that happen when you choose the hard way--and I hope my guest's stories inspire you to go do hard things with people you love and have some fun. That's the best part of life and it's available to everyone willing to answer the call to adventure. I have a request: please pick something challenging to do, invite a friend to do it with you and leave a comment or shoot a DM to @hardwaypod on social and tell me how it went. Joining me today is @blakeoftoday. In the past year, Blake has become one of the most popular storytellers on Instagram because of his distinctive storytelling style focused on family, fatherhood and jiu-jitsu. He's the host of the Grappling with Fatherhood podcast, the author of the Blakeoftoday substack and one of the only humans I know who organically grew his Instagram following from less than a thousand followers to nearly 200k followers in a year. Blake has joined me on this podcast in the past to deconstruct our path to podium finishes at the gravel race now known as the Unbound 100 in 2014 and 2015. Today, we're talking about how our chance meeting while volunteering at a shelter for unhoused people in downtown Los Angeles led us to start doing workouts at a park in Silverlake that were brutal and would have been total nonsense if they hadn't been so much fun--and how that led to friendship, rivalry and both of us pushing each other to go bigger and bigger. And so can you. Choose the Hard Way is the podcast about how doing hard things builds stronger humans who have more fun. Please help more people find this podcast. To do that, just hit subscribe and rate the show five stars on Apple Podcasts or Spotify and share this episode with a friend. We are 100 episodes deep and I really appreciate all of your support. On this episode of The Dad Central Show, we sit down with Anthony Palmer, the creator of Wake.Dad.Drink.Repeat, a podcast that challenges unfair stereotypes and discusses the experiences of fathers. Anthony believes in embracing both traditional masculine roles, such as being a leader and provider, as well as displaying gentleness and love. Being primarily at home with his kids while his wife is the main provider, Anthony shares the struggles he faces balancing his professional career and spending time with his children. Through therapy and conversations with other dads, Anthony has gained valuable insights and perspectives on fatherhood, from those with newborns to grandparents. He opens up about adopting his daughter and later having a biological son, which resulted in a significant age gap between the two children. As his son prepares to start kindergarten, Anthony reflects on this chapter of his life coming to an end, prompting him to make the most of his time with his children during the summer before they start school. Anthony shares his decision to take Fridays off during the summer to spend quality time with his kids, highlighting the positive impact it has had on his family. He acknowledges the challenges of finding a balance between family and work responsibilities but emphasizes the importance of being present in the moments with his children. Finally Anthony, Ed and Drew share a common sentiment about the value of hosting meaningful conversations for their listeners by discussing topics that are not typically talked about, such as miscarriages and IVF. They believe in normalizing conversations about fatherhood and creating a safe space for dads to express their emotions and struggles. Tune in to this episode of The Dad Central Show to hear Anthony Palmer share his personal journey as a father, his experiences with adoption, and his commitment to challenging stereotypes and normalizing conversations about fatherhood. World War II has probably inspired more films, plays, novels and documentaries than any other 6-year period in history. But there's no substitute for the accounts of the people who were there. Now, with the last participants in their nineties and even older, those first-hand accounts are coming to an end. A couple of years ago, the documentary Spitfire told the story of the fighter planes and their pilots who won the Battle of Britain, and inspired the nation to help win the Second World War. But it was later British planes - the Lancaster bombers - that did much of the heavy lifting, and their story is finally told in Lancaster. It's likely to be the last eye-witness account to be made about the War. Like Spitfire it was co-directed by David Fairhead and Anthony Palmer. Simon Morris talks with Anthony Palmer on the line from the UK. Lancaster is released throughout the country on September the 1st.

We are mixing things up a bit this week - and doing a Monday drop! We are doing this because the guest this week is, me! Travis Macy is back on the pod but this time as host. The pod has grown a lot over the last year, and last week's guest (Chris Baddick), had a great idea for me to reintroduce myself to the audience and dive into my fatherhood story a bit. I thought it was a great idea and really enjoyed recording this episode. When I was trying to decide who to get to help me with this, Travis was the first name that came to mind. Not only is he the host of the Travis Macy Show, but Travis is a friend, a client, and someone who I have really come to admire and have a lot of respect for as a human. A huge thanks to him for taking over the show. Please be sure to head over this his pod, subscribe and leave it a review! Dr. Bill Fierfelder, President of Belmont Abbey College, voiced concern that the new constitution was rushed.
