Jordan B Peterson Podcast Key Takeaways No one starts strong, powerful, and confident; these are skills that must be developed and honed throughout life Better questions illuminate the path to a better life: By asking someone earnest questions, you confront your ignorance while also inviting them on an adventurous and playful journey of collaboration As a leader, the best approach is to bring your team with you on the journey of discoveryPay attention to your enemiesThey may reveal truths you would otherwise overlookIn their objections to your worldview, they may shed light on something that you could have done more effectively To enable decentralized command, leaders must rapidly develop subordinates into collaborative problem-solvers: the more decision-making ability is pushed down the ranks, the more agile and effective the organization becomes in a changing environment Hire super-competent people and offer them a thrilling deal so they are maximally motivated Leaders should seek distributed competence, not control: an effective manager makes himself irrelevant as quickly as possible Pay attention to the problems that cry out to you; it could be your destiny to solve that problem “If you punish the source within you that gives rise to ideas, it will stop producing ideas.” – Jordan B Peterson Make being creative the victor over all the competing temptations of lifeEnact discipline in your life so that your internal creativity can prevail The best leaders align their vision with their followers' interests; they inspire action by making others want to contributeRead the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgDr. Jordan B. I have a Google doc over a hundred specific things that I wrote down that I'm thankful from this past year. If you brought in the time horizon of any circumstance, gratitude will bubble up. Hello, Family Brand community! Chris and Melissa here, bringing you some timely insights as we dive into the sunny season. Today, we're exploring how setting "Summer Agreements" can transform the often daunting, unstructured weeks of summer into a period of growth and enjoyment for the whole family. Summertime brings a mix of freedom and challenge, especially when it comes to managing time without the school year's structure. A few years ago, Melissa introduced a fantastic concept to our summer planning that has significantly benefited our family life. Each summer, we encourage everyone in the family to pick something they want to improve on or achieve during these months. Whether it's learning new skills, like Chris trying to throw left-handed, or setting personal fitness goals, these summer projects bring a sense of purpose and fun. We also love integrating ideas from inspiring reads into our summer plans. For instance, after reading "Way of the Warrior Kid" by Jocko Willink, our family discussions about summer goals have deepened. The book's themes about personal discipline and growth resonate with our aim to encourage both physical and mental development over the summer. However, it's not just about personal achievements. Setting clear agreements on how the summer will unfold is crucial. These agreements strike a balance between maintaining enough structure to prevent chaos and allowing enough freedom for spontaneous summer fun. For example, discussing and agreeing on curfews, daily routines, and family activities helps manage expectations and keeps everyone on the same page. This summer, we challenge each of you to think about what agreements would work best for your family. What do you want to achieve? How do you want to feel by the end of the summer? Engage your children in this conversation, let them set their goals, and discuss as a family how you can support each other in achieving these objectives. As we set these intentions and agreements, we also remember to model these behaviors ourselves. It's important for kids to see their parents embracing challenges and stepping out of their comfort zones. This summer, let's all strive to 'get that dog in us'—putting in the effort and showing up for ourselves and our family. Wishing you all a summer filled with growth, joy, and meaningful family moments. Go out there and make it amazing! Would you hand a toddler a picket sign? It's a question that takes center stage as we unpack the daring move by some children's books to nurture the next generation of activists. "A is for Activist" and "Anti-Racist Baby Picture Book" are turning heads and storytimes alike with their bold introduction of social justice themes to the playpen crowd. But is there a line between early education and ideological imposition? We're peeling back the pages on whether these pint-sized primers are appropriate, or if they're fast-tracking kids into political discourse before they can even tie their shoelaces.Meanwhile, we switch gears and tap into the wisdom nestled within the The Way of the Warrior Kid by Jocko Willink Key Points from the Episode:Forget about coddling – this narrative is all about instilling resilience and responsibility in young minds. We share the compelling journey of Mark and his Uncle Jake, as they navigate the challenges of youth with a code of conduct that's as unyielding as it is uplifting. The takeaway is clear: there's power in preaching perseverance and moral fortitude to our kids. In this episode, we have Molly Christensen, a life coach and mentor for parents. She is a mother of 7 children, a 20-year-old homeschool veteran, and an entrepreneur. Her life goal is to help parents lead their children through their journeys as the Building Heroes Academy founder. Today, Molly guides parents on how to deal with bored kids.Boredom[0:50]Our definition of boredom is life is tedious, dull, and not engaging. However, Molly explains that boring could have a different meaning to kids. It could describe a whole range of feelings, or they have had much passive entertainment. It could also mean that they are uncomfortable with their thoughts or feelings, having a hard time focusing, or do not have various activities in life.Overcoming boredom[2:55]To overcome boredom, most people do passive activities to take the feeling of boredom away. However, Molly insists that this method is not effective as this is only a temporary measure unless the source of the emotion is identified.[3:25]When kids are bored, this may become a source of unknown energy, and they must direct it elsewhere.[3:46]A podcast called “The Way of the Warrior Kid” tackles the questions that kids had turned in. One question that Molly liked was what a kid should do when they are feeling bored. The host's answered that boredom means that you are too much in your comfort zone, and you need to find another activity to pour your energy into.[6:31]Molly explains just like it is good to have emotions; it is not harmful to be bored. However, we must recognize what emotion is. It is much better if parents could teach their children the concept that boredom is a signal and that it is time to choose where they should direct their energy.Parents' responsibility[8:45]Molly believes that it is not the parents' responsibility to keep their children entertained. However, parents must instill that happiness that does not come from outside sources, and their children must be the ones who shall generate their joy.[13:32]From the story that Molly read, she learned the ways of how to get rid of boredom. First, one must change their environment. Second, get out into nature as nature is surprisingly healing, and nature knows what to do with our energy. Lastly, choose a goal or a journey to go on to. Little things you could do today may help keep you progressing on that path.Go to https://www.buildingheroesacademy.com/ to teach your kids leadership and success principles now and do what it takes to raise exceptional children as we change the world together.
The End of the Day Podcast with Kari Watterson: Using Mindset Work to Live Your Best Life
Before starting any personal development journey, it's helpful to have an idea of where we're starting from rather than jumping straight to where we want to be. When we're first starting out, it may feel like we don't know who we are, but it's often because we haven't taken the time to really sit down, quiet our minds and allow ourselves to discover that part of us. So many of us are too busy trying to avoid thinking too deeply about ourselves because all we see is what we think is wrong with us. But when we take the time to acknowledge the good in us before we start making sweeping changes, we're affirming that we're changing to grow and not in order to be worthy. In this episode, I share exercises that I often recommend to clients who are struggling to find their path in life. These exercises help them get in touch with their current selves, clarify who they aspire to be, and provide a framework for creating a more meaningful and purpose-driven life. I have done this work in my own life which I share in this episode to give you a sense of how you can use this work in your life, too. When you do this work on your present and future self, you are pulling your greatest wishes out of your subconscious and into your awareness. And when you're aware of what you're striving for, your goals and dreams become possible and you start acting with more purpose and intention. This is a long episode but one I hope you'll find extremely valuable. Also, if you've ever been curious to know how a mindset coach can help you in your personal or professional life, stay tuned to the very end. Learn what I hear from my clients and why I believe so passionately that mindset work changes lives and can help you change yours, too. ------Cited in this episode:George Winston - Classical pianistJocko Willink - Retired Navy Seal, motivational speaker, author of the Way of the Warrior Kid book seriesPodcast: The "Getting to Grips With" Podcast with Tom Watson; Episode 16 with Nathan Arnold, former professional footballer in the UK and founder of Nathan Arnold Coaching------Original intro/outro music by JMW.------To learn more about what I do, my coaching philosophy and how to work with me, email me at kari@kariwatterson.com or visit my website at https://kariwatterson.com. ------For more mindset thoughts and tips, follow me on social media:Instagram: kari_mindsetcoachTwitter: @KaWatterson

Jocko Willink is a retired Navy SEAL. Jocko has taken what he learned from the military and is teaching others how to live their life the same way, including our kids. He lives by a code. A code that anyone can develop for themselves. Jocko holds himself to these standards everyday. This is the Way of the Warrior... He's also written books about this code: "Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win," a book I loved and highly recommend. And most recently he published two books in his children's series: "Way of the Warrior Kid: From Wimpy to Warrior the Navy SEAL Way" and "Marc's Mission: Way of the Warrior Kid." I was afraid before interviewing Jocko. I think it was instinctual. His body is seven times the size of mine. I pointed at the cover of his new book, "The Way of The Warrior Kid. "See this kid," I said. "That's me right now." I like to overlap somewhere with my guest. Like a story we both can share and laugh about. With Jim Norton, for instance, we grew up together. With Garry Kasparov we were both chess players. And I also worked on Deep Blue for a while, the computer that would ultimately defeat him. But with Jocko...what? I felt intimidated. He was like this superhero that had conquered the world and everyone respected him and I felt like the nerdy little boy I was in junior high school. So I started talking. "I can't do a pull up. And I've never been in the battlefield... obviously. Or I would look completely different. You were the commander of your SEAL unit and you had to make life and death decisions. But out of that, you cultivated all of these leadership lessons." He listened. That was nice. Then I asked why he joined the military. (And stayed for 20 years.) But he flipped the question back to me. (He has a podcast, too. So he knows how to drive an interview.) "Ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to be in combat," he said. "Why?" "Well... what did you want to do when you were growing up?" he asked. "I guess I wanted to write and interview people." "Well, there you go." I don't think my brain fully realizes that I'm doing what I dreamt of doing as a kid. Jocko made it sound so simple. "Well, there you go." We're not all lucky with everything we do. Jocko is lucky. I am lucky. But some of his friends didn't make it back from war. Doing is the step forward. But sometimes it worthwhile to just pause... long enough to hear the words. "Well, there you go." We began the interview... ------------What do YOU think of the show?
