Hunting, harvesting and eating meat can be an extremely polarizing topic for people! There are a lot of dogmas, stereotyping, mis-information and assumptions made around these topics. That's why I called in Rebecca Peters to help me convey the concept of uniting hunters and non-hunters through understanding, compassionate and open conversations. She was once a non-hunter, living in urban paradise. By happenstance she found herself submerged into the hunting world, and was pleasantly surprised what she discovered there! Years later, she's became a passionate advocate for women hunters, wild game recipes, and conservation, all while finding her true self out in nature. This is not your " dad's hunting story". This is an unexpected unique conversation about a women loving animals and nature and how we can do our part to ensure a healthy and secure Earth for our kids, grandkids, great grandkids and so on. It's our hope that this conversation is shared with people of all walks of life to open up loving and compassionate conversations around what loving our Earth can look like in all the different ways. Highlights:Her backstory and her reluctant introduction into the hunting lifestyle. How she was conditioned to think about guns and hunting in an urban city. How her vegetarianism journey ended up with her wanting better quality and ethical meat in her diet. How difficult it can be to get into hunting when you live in an urban centre. How she started talking to her urban peers about her new lifestyle. How awkward it can be when peers are not educated or aware about the hunting lifestyle. Communication Living: One way she's been able to bridge the gap between non-hunters and hunters is by sharing meals with them! Her and her husband prepare meals for non hunters friends to show them how delicious wild game can taste and share the stories of how they harvested that meat. They often gift their wild game to members of their community. The importance of having a relationship with your food for our health, the health of the planet, and our communities. Mindful eating and hunting. The simple ways that nature can heal us, save our lives even! Keeping the Humanness in Humanity. The problem when society encourages us to be less human. How our bodies feel when all our senses are hyper aware and turned on! Spoiler alert: it feels amazing!Being in the purest natural form of yourself while hunting. How my first sheep helped me heal my postpartum depression and anxiety.Having compassionate conversations with anti-hunters, vegans, and non-hunters and why it's so important to keep open conversation going. What it feels like to harvest you're first animal.Using all parts of the animal, including the fat, bones and hides. We share some of our favorite wild game RecipesThe “trophy hunting” stigma… what THAT'S about?! We'll tell ya! The difference between poaching and hunting. The uniqueness that women bring to hunting and wildlife conservation tables, and why women might even be better hunters than men! The amazing trip she won to go to Texas. There she and a group of women, completed a 5 day intensive hunting, harvesting, and cook program! Being an aging woman might make you a better hunt?! I didn't realize just how WILD this woman was when I first asked her come on to the show! The more we chatted, the more in love I fell with her, her story, and her photography! From her Rebellious heart, right down to her nomadic yet grounded feet, she lives life to the fucking full out MAX! We belly laughed a lot during this conversation! I really appreciate that she's a little dorky and whole lot of fun! We also talk a lot about women, empowerment, and body image, with some controversial topics sprinkled throughout it all. Surprisingly this is one of my shorter episodes, considering how much big conversation was crammed into one episode! I know you'll enjoy this charming and inspiring interview with Trina Cary! Episode Highlights: Her unique remote mountain upbringing and early passion for photography and her first published photograph. Nerding out on birth, hypobirthing, doula-ing, birth photography, and how amazing women's bodies are. And the explosion of opportunities that was cracked open for her afterwards. Me embracing my mom bod (or not). The empowerment that happens from capturing raw, vulnerable and non-typical images. And the magic of bravely posting them. How she has perfected her technique to capture that raw and authentic moment of people's lives. And a little bit about astrology, personal work, entrepreneurship, sexuality post babies, How censorship on social really hold artists back from sharing their best works.Haters gonna hate and how she deals with that. How COVID has impacted her life and the beautiful way she pivoted her business to keep creating art using A surprising tool! Her new used clothing business. Her hilarious shopping addition. So I feel very privileged to share this intimate interview and even I learned some new things about her! Intuition is such a fascinating topic! Scientifically, we know so little about it!! We hear people say, "follow your gut", "mother's intuition knows best", but our society really doesn't reflect back to us that following our intuition is best. With all this easy online access to outside sources, who needs their intuition for decision making?!And, like so many things, the less you use your intuition the quieter it becomes. So now, for some people, those outside sources ARE actually needed for their basic decision making. This is especially true of women's health care! Reproduction, pregnancy, birth and mothering have been largely taken out of women's hands and put into those considered to be professionals in the care of women and their babies. I'm not too proud to call myself out on the fact that I have a lot rigidity in my opinion of women health care in the medical system, and its this exact reason why I love this conversation with Shonanna so much! Because she helps me soften my rigidity around this topic (which was a unexpected surprise!)! Which is why I do this podcast, to love more and to learn more! In addition to all that, she and I also discuss: her religious up bringing Why she doesn't resonate with the title “psychic”Her quote “if you want to feel alive, feel uncomfortable “What is intuition exactly? The role that science plays in intuition and in life in general.Intuition for entrepreneurs. What intuition feels like especially during pregnancy. When it's easiest to hear your intuition. The Mechanics of intuition. Practices and simple tools to help hone our intuition. The history of humans and Intuition and when we stopped trusting it.“Mom Intuition”Using intro guide you through birth. Do women have stronger intuition then men?Profound experiences which can awaken intuition. Being empathic and how that compares to intuition. How to use the gift of empathy. Amana is an amazing woman who has SO much love and wisdom to share with the world! Career wise, she's a registered nurse with a degree in sociology, a birth attendant, an end of life doula (yes that's a thing!), an entrepreneur for her handmade soap company Earthing Nova, and she also offers support to pregnant, mothering and grieving women. She's a person who lives her life very intentionally and heart-lead. She's strong and fierce in her conviction to live her life on HER terms, even when that looks unusual or radical. She's also a mother to two little critters as well as a "mid-mother" (a term she's coined for mothers who's babies didn't survive pregnancy or early life) to 4 little spirits who didn't make it Earthside (out of utero). This episode is the story of her motherhood journey, from the stunningly beautiful, to soul shattering devastation and everything in-between. We also discuss:The incredible story of how she manifested meeting her "Soul Flame" Owyn. Language around pregnancy loss and "what's meant to be"Following your intuition above everything else.Unapologetically living your truth even when no one around is.Fears around birth and life in general.Chasing the "Perfect Birth".Our decisions to leave behind the medical system for our pregnancies and births. What does "Radical" mean, literally and figuratively. The ways that our lives have been impacted after having sovereign and empowering birth experiences. Links to Amana's website for her soaps and support coaching https://earthingnova.love/. Today's episode is all about Amy's journey with infertility! I myself haven't had this experience, so I really appreciate Amy's vulnerability with her experience to help me better understand what I didn't before! Sharing and Listening to each other's life experiences is how humans best learn to love ourselves and each other more fully! How she dealt with the feelings of failure around her body’s functions. Menstrual shame vs loving your menstrual cycle. The coldness of the medical procedures she endured. The Marital pressures of conceiving or not. The deep loneliness she felt which led to profound beauty. Her difficult experience with hormonal contraceptives. The magic of our menstural cycles and other relationships women and girls have with their bodies. The how empowering the “pill” was in the beginning, but how it’s turned into something else entirely. The damaging messages woman receive from their care providers, peers, and society about infertility. How she navigated personal relationships with people who love her but don’t understand what she was going through.how her experience helped her see the bigger picture of life which helped her understand that she’s enough even without a motherhood experience. How pregnancy, birth and early motherhood has been for her thus far, especially through Covid lock down Her journey of infertility has inspired the writing and publishing her current fiction novel and future novel. The importance of being real in a largely phoney culture. We ended with some good chuckles.
