Idea: An Anthony Bourdain-style travel show where the host goes to grand openings of dollar stores, reviews them, explores the nearby community, and interviews interesting customers. Also: the show could include segments such as taking different types of people (nuns, comedians, etc.) to dollar stores for the first time, comparing generic dollar store brands to name-brand equivalents, taste-testing rare discontinued/experimental foods (such as Monster Energy Cold Brew coffee-flavored energy drink); discussing the major dollar store chains, Buc-ee's, food outlets (which sell nearly expired meats), Wall Drug, Factor meal delivery, grocery pickup/delivery, etc.; YouTuber Andrew Callahan ("All Gas No Brakes" and "Channel 5") and interviewing oddball people Kristopher Allen Brown (instagram.com/kristopher_allen_brown Prison City Comedy open mic: facebook.com/profile.php?id=61576119950772) Jake Mattes (instagram.com/jake_mattes 4th & Funny Podcast: youtube.com/@Jake14M Barry Good Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/1Vk4xpFRLvnvya2vnaQiGR?si=fdd1504b500d489a) Alfons Mueller (https://alfonsmueller.com https://linktr.ee/kolossus instagram.com/kolossus) Tom Walma (https://creativitywasted.com/creativitywasted x.com/thomaswalma twitch.tv/gameymcfitness) This podcast is part of Planet Ant Podcasts (https://planetant.com) This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Mergers and acquisitions are among the more complex processes new CEOs have to learn, whether they’re in the role for the first time or taking over at a new company. Andreas “Andy” W. Mattes has navigated this multiple times in his roles as CEO of Siemens Communications, Diebold, and later of Diebold Nixdorf, and now of the laser technology company Coherent. In this discussion with M&A practice leader Jake Henry, Andy talks about the roller-coaster ride that M&A can be, and the critical M&A skills he had to learn as a CEO, including how to best deal with competing bids and making time to commune with other CEOs. Jake is the global co-leader of McKinsey’s M&A Practice, which includes mergers, acquisitions, integrations, joint ventures, and divestitures. He previously led our Life Sciences Practice globally, where he guided pharmaceutical and medical-technology company executives on matters of corporate strategy, growth strategy, and operational excellence for more than twenty years. There is considerable evidence that marketing affects physician prescribing practices, even though physicians themselves may not feel that they are influenced. In a thought-provoking editorial, Dr. Jeffrey A. Mattes explores how e-prescribing systems may be one pathway through which pharmaceutical messaging may shape prescribing behavior. In this podcast, Dr. Mattes discusses his editorial, “How Does Drug Company Marketing Affect Physician Prescribing?” which is published in the July-August 2025 issue of the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology. doi: 10.1097/JCP.0000000000002030
A counterpart to our earlier episode on Bible to Doctrine (and Back Again), this one has us discussing Dad's forthcoming book, which is a theology of theology and an exegesis of exegesis! In particular we discuss the difference between starting with the incarnation vs. starting with the resurrection in christology, and all the downstream consequences of the respective decisions. In this episode, Kelsi chats with theologian Mark Mattes about his new release with 1517 Publishing, Ditching the Checklist: Assurance of Salvation for Evangelicals (and Other Sinners). The two discuss the history and inner-workings of “Decision Theology” and why this theology ultimately leads people to the question, “Am I really saved?” without a helpful or true answer. In response, Mark suggests Scripture primarily presents salvation and faith in Christ as something passive (like birth) done to us. As a result, instead of looking to our works as a means of assurance, Christians can look with certainty to God's sacramental promises and efficacious word. Mark Mattes serves as Professor of Theology and Philosophy at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa, and previously served parishes in Gardner, Illinois, and Antigo, Wisconsin. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, and an M.Div from Luther Seminary. Mattes has authored Martin Luther's Theology of Beauty: A Reappraisal and The Role of Justification in Contemporary Theology, and has co-authored Imaging the Journey, co-translated Theology the Lutheran Way by Oswald Bayer, co-edited the collected papers of Gerhard Forde, A More Radical Gospel and The Preached God, and is an Associate Editor for Lutheran Quarterly.Show Notes:Support 15171517 PodcastsThe 1517 Podcast Network on Apple Podcasts1517 on YoutubeMore from Kelsi: Kelsi Klembara Follow Kelsi on Instagram Follow Kelsi on Twitter Kelsi's Newsletter Subscribe to the Show: Apple Podcasts Spotify Youtube
