The speech at the WEF should go down as one of the best given on the topic of freedom and prosperity, its neccessary ingredients and the requirements for its continued flourishing. This man could end up finally bringing the progressive era to an end. Of course, only time will tell and it depends strongly on whether or not he is able to get this message out to the world and the people of Agentina. Acredita que Javier Milei vai poder cumprir estas promessas ou vai ser obrigado a voltar atrás nalgumas promessas eleitorais?Não, ele vai ser obrigado a fazer volta atrás em relação a muitas promessas. Talvez muitos eleitores de Javier Milei até estão contra estas promessas. Estas promessas são muito difíceis de cumprir porque muitas delas precisam de aprovação por parte das câmaras de representantes da Argentina. Da Câmara alta e da Câmara baixa, do Parlamento de deputados,d a Assembleia de senadores. Para obter aprovações são precisas maiorias que ele não tem. Ele foi eleito Presidente, mas não tem governadores, nem força nas câmara - o que torna difícil aprovar reformas. Vai ser obrigado a obter consensos gerais e há uma parte da oposição que fica numa posição de centro-direita e que vai servir de regulação a muitas propostas que não eram muito positivas.No plano internacional, Javier Milei disse querer acabar com pactos com comunistas; com a China, cortar relações com o Brasil de Lula, dissolver o Mercosul. Mudar linhas na política internacional é difícil?Sim, fechar relações comerciais com o Brasil tecnicamente é impossível porque o Brasil é um dos países vizinhos. Cortar com relações comerciais, mesmo entre instituições privadas, comércios de uma empresa, de um país ou de outro é tecnicamente impossível. Em termos comerciais existe uma inclinação da Argentina em manter relações com outro bloco de países, alinhados à vontade dos Estados Unidos ou de outros países capitalistas. Talvez haja uma posição mais clara, daqui para a frente, quanto ao conflito israelo-palestiniano porque ele já disse estar a favor da causa de Israel. Isso vai marcar um novo rumo das relações internacionais da Argentina.A Argentina vai precisar de continuar a exportar produtos para a China, Estados Unidos e Brasil. Produtos como a carne, cereais ou automóveis. O país vive uma crise económica com uma inflação de 140% e 40% da população a viver abaixo do limiar da pobreza. Este novo Presidente vai enfrentar um país em crise e não vai poder isolar-se?Acho que é uma estratégia muito importante o facto dele falar desse prognóstico abertamente e não fazer promessas de uma forma simples. E isso fez com que ele tivesse este resultado porque ele não está a oferecer fantasias. Ainda ontem, ele falou de uma cenário muito difícil, marcando uma diferença de discursos importantes com o antigo Presidente Mauricio Macri, que [quando chegou ao poder] falou de um futuro maravilhoso, quando não conseguiu fazer compreender à população a difícil situação económica do país. Javier Milei começa a falar de uma situação crítica, assumindo que os próximos tempos vão ser diferentes.Até que ponto podemos comprar o projecto e a personalidade de Donald Trump a Javier Milei?A diferença entre um e outro é que Donald Trump antes de ser presidente era um importante empresário. Ele chega ao poder não apenas pela sua personalidade, mas também com o apoio do partido Republicano - mesmo que depois tenha perdido esse apoio. Javier Milei pode ter ideias de extrema-direita, pode ser visto como um louco. É visto até agora como um outsider total do mundo da política e do mundo empresarial. Ele é um economista que assessorava empresas, mas não era empresário. Ele não tem poder económico próprio que tinha o Donald Trump. Outra surpresa desta eleição é o desaparecimento do peronismo em todo o país, menos em Buenos Aires?Este resultado não vai fazer com que o peronismo desapareça. O peronismo é uma posição política presente neste país há muitos anos e pensaria numa reconfiguração porque os principais líderes desse partido, desta coligação política da União pela Pátria, estão desfigurados. Este partido não vai desaparecer, mas dentro de alguns anos vamos assistir a uma reconfiguração das lideranças. Os Kirchner são figuras que vão ter de suportar a reconfiguração e manutenção da Argentina. Fala-se que a vice-presidente vai dar uma palestra na Itália e o actual presidente que é o Alberto Fernandez também vai fazer uma viagem fora do país. Ontem falava-se de um período de licença do ministério da economia do Sergio Massa porque além de candidato ele continuava a ser ministro da Economia. Está-se a prestar muita atenção ao governador, reeleito, da província de Buenos Aires Axel Kicillof e também ao Máximo Kirchner, filho da antiga Presidente e actual vice-presidente.

Well the culture wars and cancel culture just grows and grows and grows. All Black captain Sam Cane was criticised by some, including himself, when he tripped a pitch invader after the All Black game in Agentina. The invader was one of about 15 that took to the pitch, generally making a nuisance of themselves. The invader ran past Sam who swung a foot and tripped the invader, who then scampered off while security staff ambled along in his wake. Promptly the All Black captain apologised in front of the media, All Black management sought the invader out and apologised and members of New Zealand media including Andrew Gourdie from Newshub castigated the captain for actions. And yet a poll soon after showed that nearly 80% of New Zealanders had no problem with Sam's actions at all. So why did Sam do his mea culpa? Fear of a backlash from the minority who thought his actions were unworthy of an All Black captain. Fear of a media firestorm. Because that's the way the world operates today. There's always someone offended somewhere and these days if they announce their offence it gets publicity. Yes from the mainstream media, but then that's always happened. The difference these days is the citizen channels. The whole world is a media outlet with the invention of social media and these controversies can lose all sense of perspective rapidly. Another culture war swept a small but vocal part of New Zealand this weekend. A Spark social media editor supported a Threads post that hoped that anti-transgender comments would be banned from the social media network. The social media editor is herself lesbian and married with a wife, and Spark supported her taking the stance through their official channels. This got up the nose of some who believe that trans-activism is preventing free speech by women. Let Women Speak is the name of their campaign. It's all a bit over the top to be fair But they've started a campaign to get clients of Spark to leave the telecommunication company. Cancel culture. Which used to be the weapon of choice of the left and liberals, remember Lauren Southern and Phil Goff. And conservatives and right wingers would moan about cancel culture and the death of free speech. But now Conservatives and the right seem to have adopted the exact same tactic.   The most extreme example has been the Budweiser go woke got broke boycott over a transgender marketing campaign which has seen the stock lose billions and Bud Light selling for less than water in many states. Which is killing the jobs of many innocent employees and investors who want nothing to do with this culture war. It appears to me that too many on the more extreme sides of our political spectrum have lost the plot when it comes to expressing their ideology and the politics of division is rife in both the left and right.  Both sides are determined not just to argue with their opponents but to silence them and it feels like free speech is now under attack more than ever before.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's arguably the most famous single moment in soccer history because of who was involved and the stage where it took place. Diego Maradona's 51st minute goal for Argentina against England in the quarterfinals of the 1986 World Cup gave Agentina a lead that they wouldn't relinquish. Argentina would roll through the rest of the tournament and claim its second World Cup title.  But what's really crazy about this story is the English player who made the mistake that allowed Maradona to have the opportunity to score that goal would later earn more than $9 million because of that infamous moment. In this epsiode, we'll tell you that story and more.
