Kerry and Collin are joined by Catherine Mary Stewart, star of the 1984 cult classic "Night of the Comet," an apocalyptic sci-fi film where the world ends at Christmastime, which is the best time to go shopping. They are also joined by returning guest Marya E. Gates, author of the new book "Cinema Her Way: Visionary Female Directors in Their Own Words." The four of them talk in-depth about "Night of the Comet" while Stewart tells some great production stories from working on the film, while also talking about some of the other Christmas films in which she has appeared. And yes, there is also talk of "The Apple," "Dudes" and "The Last Starfighter." Then, the discussion switches over the to subject of Gates' new book, which examines (among many other things) the continuing struggles in the industry facing some of the best female filmmakers working today. As if that weren't enough, there's also the Blu-ray Gift Exchange. It's a longer episode than usual, but well worth it. It's Hot Ghidorah Summer, and the planet-destroying space dragon king has made his entrance! This is the movie where everything changes: it's cosmic, it's an Avengers-style team-up among Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan, and perhaps most importantly, it's the moment Godzilla becomes a hero to cheer for. We talk about this film's shift in philosophy and Ishirō Honda's complicated feelings, along with a Biollante-esque plot that includes psychic prophecies, a Venusian spirit possessing a princess, assassins, and Hiroshi Koizumi being the hottest man to ever rock a yellow raincoat and bucket hat. Hello, Kaiju Lovers! In this impromptu but timely "Godzilla Redux" episode that's technically from the future of the MIFV timeline, Nate sits down and discusses the first true Heisei G-film, Godzilla vs. Biollante, with YouTuber Kaiju Kim and GNP creator/author Daniel DiManna. Why did he move it up and feature them as guests? So they could promote the Kickstarter for their animated tie-in fanfilm! Enjoy this spirited conversation and the best SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION you ever heard on MIFV! In the meantime, you'll hear about what some fans call the “most poetic” film in the Godzilla franchise; how it was written by a dentist who recycled a script he wrote for Return of Ultraman; how it was the first G-film for writer-director Kazuki Omori and special effects director Koichi Kawakita; how it was affected by both King Kong Lives and Little Shop of Horrors; and how it was the subject of a lawsuit between Toho and Miramax. But all of that is nothing compared to the many crazy unmade scripts to which producer Tomoyuki Tanaka said, “No” (Miki was a cloned sister?! Nate knows that struggle!) Our pal Johnny joins us to talk about the cult-classic combination mad scientist movie and espionage thriller Godzilla vs Biollante on this week's SHIN Discuss All Monsters. We have a great conversation digging into the movie's story as well as its lavish, innovative, economic bubble-era special effects. Also the horrible mummy that composed music for all the Dragon Quest games composed for this movie. It sounds fucking nuts! Enjoy the episode and join us next time as we dig into Daicon's Yamato no Orochi no Gyakushu! Follow us on twitter! @Johnny2Cellos @Anti_Laser @WazpRanger EWD_Podcast Art Credit: @BoltCreature
Cigarette and Promaster CK are back at it. We configure our Patriots 2022 predictions since it looks like they might not be too good this year. We also talk AEW's big show, not Paul Wight, All Out. And probably other stuff. I'm sure of it. There was discussion about sour cream and onion chips.
Our look at the Godzilla series comes to the Heisei era with the first two entries, The Return of Godzilla and Godzilla Vs. Biollante. The Return of Godzilla is a reboot that pretends only the 1954 original exists, and it's followed by one of the best in the entire canon, where Godzilla fights the Aubrey II (basically).
We discuss and review the 1989 film Godzilla vs. Biollante.

Jay and Nick Rehak (@TheRehak on Twitter) discuss the 1989 creature feature Godzilla vs. Biollante. Directed and written by Kazuki Ōmori, with special effects by Koichi Kawakita, the movie focuses on what happens when Godzilla is forced to battle a gigantic plant. In this episode, they talk about super secret spies, military microwaves, and a flying minivan. Enjoy!
Chuck and Logan argue over whether this kaiju is unique or lame, or even if its solo movie is worth watching.
