Today's guest makes me feel so excited and I just can't hide it. It's The Pointer Sisters. No. No it's not. Please welcome David Hakopyan of Antenna The End. And I have to thank Jamie Park and Teen Cancer America for connecting us. David grew up in one of the biggest Armenian communities in the world outside of Armenia, itself. He was influenced equally by rock and Armenian folk music. But music wasn't always his focus. For a while as a teen, he thought he might be an illustrator. He was the counterfeit Pushead guy in his school. And if that doesn't make sense, it will after you listen. Or go look up Pushead. He got serious about music when he started playing in an Armenian, revolutionary, folk, alternative rock band with Serj Tankian called Forever Young. After cheating on that band with another, he started Soil with Serj and Daron Malakian. David discusses the one and only live show they played and its biggest pitfall. David and his bands, like Apex Theory & Mt. Helium, have always been hyper-focused on sounding original, to the point of making sure no one was listening to the big rock stations in LA. They'd do spot checks on each others' radios. David's new band is Antenna The End. And you can absolutely tell that it's David's band. He started writing after the kinds of personal issues that get a guy writing music. He also tells me when he came up with the band's unique name. The debut EP will be out soon, but David gives us a sneak peak at the music and stories behind the band's formation and the music he's created. Check them out @antennatheend on Instagram & Facebook. Keep an eye out for the EP release in early August. And give him a call at…you know what, don't do that. BUT, follow us @PerformanceAnx on Instagram & Twitter. Reach out, we don't bite. Men need divine ownership over their lives because the chaos in society has destabilized the family, the church, and the culture. The cause of this chaos is primarily tied to the failure or absence of men. When men abandon their roles, families disintegrate. In church, women are depended upon to lead—apart from a few select positions—because men will not volunteer. This limits the impact the church can make. Men have been called to rule under God and serve as the foundation for how things work. Since God's covenant is transferred through men, they ought to be the ones keeping the divine framework operating in the family and the world. Also my congratulations to my friend Serj Phillipe, who recently completed the fire academy and is now a Certified Firefighter in the State of Florida. My hat's off to you Serj! Allie and I thank you for tuning in and SHARING!

Serj talks with Maggie about his new book Down With The System: A Memoir (of Sorts) In DOWN WITH THE SYSTEM, Serj presents readers with a memoir that is far more than just a rock 'n' roll fable. It's an immigrant's tale, it's an activist's awakening, and it's a spiritual journey from darkness toward light. And all of this comes down to the fact that Serj himself has had the chance to live an extraordinary life—thanks to a combination of luck, circumstance, struggle, talent, and spiritual awakening. Braiding together Serj's thought-provoking insight with heartfelt and poetic prose, DOWN WITH THE SYSTEM retraces Serj's remarkable and unlikely journey, and explores what it's taught him—about music, about art, about activism and about himself. It's an unforgettable ride that will leave you breathless—and an absolute delight for new fans and old ones alike. An exhilarating, thoughtful, and beautifully written debut memoir by musician, songwriter, and lead singer-lyricist of Grammy award-winning metal band, System Of A Down, Serj Tankian. Serj Tankian is best known for being the frontman for System of a Down, an activist and now an author with his new memoir “Down with the System.” We talk about the early years of SOAD, how he felt about nu-metal, his past life as a software entrepreneur, unreleased SOAD songs and the one thing it would take for the band to put out a new album. Also, people used to scream “wake up” at him n the street because of their song “Chop Suey” so I find out if they are still doing that, what bands he'd love to tour with, his thoughts on new artists like, how he ended up doing a song for the Godzilla movie. Speaking of movies, will his memoir be turned into a movie one day? Serj also has a new solo EP called Foundations coming out soon, but the first single “A.F Day” is out now. Serj told me that the song was written in the early days of SOAD and the vocals on the track are actually the original vocals from 25 years ago. So be sure to give that a stream when you're done here and of course check out the book. Welcome to Friday! Big weekend ahead with the World's Shortest Run/Walk on Saturday & St. Paddy's Day on Sunday…plus, it's Selection Sunday! Shaw is back in the news room today & we talked about the plans for the bridge in Lansing, and since it's Bret Michaels' 61st birthday, we discussed his plans for touring in the next year or two. The Badgers got a win in their first game of the Big Ten Tourney, and Aaron Rodgers responded to the claims that he thinks the Sandy Hook shooting was a government conspiracy. Let you know what's on TV & in theaters this weekend, and Brian went on a VERY deep dive about the Leprechaun films. Had a cool story about a company that's looking to break a world record for the most hair donated in 24 hours. Jean is flying in a few weeks and Brian keeps trying to convince her to watch the "Last Week with John Oliver" video about Boeing…needless to say, she's not interested. But maybe the new upgrade from Frontier airlines might improve her mood. Did you see the bees at the tennis match yesterday? Caused a nearly two-hour delay! Hooked you up with some St. Paddy's Day stats & info, and Brian thinks he could replace Serj in System of a Down. Doc popped into the studio this morning for this week's Racing Report, and during today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about some students taking magic mushrooms, a cop vs. a turkey, a bald eagle that got hit by a car, a ski bus in Colorado that got stuck in the snow, a brewery that got a bomb threat because of a drag show, Pornhub in Texas, and police in Canada are advising residents to leave the keys to their cars on the door of their house so thieves don't break in, and a drunk woman who didn't know the difference between suck & blow. Jacob was in downtown LA when he ran into Serj Tankian in a coffee house. Jacob tried to get his copy of manufacturing consent signed by Serj, but instead Serj just handed Jacob a copy of "Color of Pomegranates" and went on a half hour long rant lamenting how ignorant Americans are of the great and proud history of Armenia. Once he was done with his tirade he let out a scream, raised his fist, then threw a brick through the pane glass window of the coffee shop, hopped into his Tesla Model 3, and drove off. Thank you Serj Tankian for your guidance and Resistance. Scores: Troy -- 2.5, John -- 3.8, Brody -- 1.5, Steven -- 2.5, Jacob -- 3.7 Recorded 5-25-2022

Support Ritmo Solidário Help feed and support Samba School bateria players during the pandemic.PayPal WebsiteUse address: chiinabadalo@gmail.comBio:Wagner Silva, better known as Waguinho do Repique, is the son of two giants in Rio Samba. His father is Mestre Cosme and his Mother: Celinha who was a Samba interpreter and 1st woman to be a director in a Samba school! Waguinho started with the kids Bateria of Acadêmicos do Engenho da Rainha and then played in the Famous kids Bateria of Mestre Odilon at Ilha do Governador! Soon after, he joined the Repique Solos team at Engenho da Rainha! But the first time he was the repique soloist in a grupo especial school was at Estácio de Sá, at the invitation of Mestre Ciça. Soon after Waguinho was Repique Soloist in Porto da Pedra, Caprichosos de Pilares, Mocidade, Unidos Da Tijuca and Viradouro. At these schools he not only played but became Director, participating in the technical work in the formation of new Rhythmists and became a part of the Creation of Arrangements and Paradinhas of these schools. He alone has created 55 Paradinhas! Waguinho is one of the people responsible for the rise of Repique Mor which he learned at Beija flor. He is the creator of the original Naipe and Levada played at Cabula, a school which he also paraded. Waguinho proposed the idea of having repique mor to Mestre Casa Grande for Unidos da Tijuca, Pura Cadência. Casa Grande gave him a lot of freedom to tread a new path for the instrument within the school. Repique Mor generated a lot of prominence because only Tijuca did it at the time, but other baterias were interested. Waguinho after the success of Naipe in Tijuca, implanted Repique MOR in Salgueiro's Bateria. Waguinhow took the drum to an Ensaio once and played it. Mestre Marcão and his board liked it and so Repique Mor was placed in Salgueiro and is still played there, because of his efforts. Waguinho became involved as a percussionist with the social project of the great musician Robertinho Silva. Waguinho played for years as a guest musician on the annual Samba School CD Production and had the honor of playing and sharing theStage with: Simone, Daniela Mercury, Fernanda Abreu, Ana Costa, Beth Carvalho, Iza, Martinho da Vila, Diogo Nogueira, Zeca Pagodinho, Gabriel Moura, Arlindo Cruz. He participated in Dudu Nobre's DVD, “Os Mais Lindos Samba Enredo de Todos os Tempos”, and integrated the show of Samba Forças das Natureza by Carlinho de Jesus and Milton Cunha. He participated in the Opening and Closing of the 2016 Summer Olympics, and was the Repique chosen to play at the national samba meeting together with the Petrobrás Orchestra under the command of Isaac Karabtchevsky, was the main Repique of the Book "O Batuque Carioca by Mestre Odilon and Maestro Guilherme Gonçalves", and is part of Serjão Loroza's Usmadureira group. He is also a key member/faculty of the group, Batuque Digital. Waguinho travels the world doing workshops and shows, in countries such as Germany, China, England, Russia, France, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Mexico, and Argentina! Currently, Waguinho is Mestre of Bloco Escangalha which is known for having students who play original Levadas of Drums. Waguinho is part of the Team of the (web)Site Apoteose, the Largest Drum Site in the world, where he is one of the commentators alongside fellow percussionist, Thalita Santos. Waguino is about to launch his Project "Entrando no Ritmo com Waguinho do Repique". He has videos showing techniques for each drum from beginners to advanced. He's collaborated with the mestres of each samba school to ensure that all the levadas are correct. He has recorded more than 150 videos, and has put a lot of care and details into this project.Batteries that Waguinho paraded:Engenho da Rainha, Estácio de Sá, Caprichosos de Pilares, União da Ilha, Porto da Pedra, Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, Unidos Da Tijuca, Viradouro, Portela, Salgueiro, Vila Isabel, Grande Rio, Beija-Flor Imperatriz Leopoldinense, Tradição, Rocinha, Renascer, Curicica, Vizinha Faladeira, Inocentes de Belford Roxo, Abolição.Links:Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/mestrewaguinho/https://www.instagram.com/batuquedigital/YouTubehttps://www.youtube.com/c/siteapoteosehttps://www.youtube.com/c/WaguinhoDoRepiqueAnnouncementsSeattle solstice June 17 - 19, 2022 Participate in this event! Serj Tankian from System of a Down says he is dedicated to the truth in a very naive way. That basic need to tell the truth and be honest with himself comes through in his art, his activism and his personal life, all of which are depicted in the new documentary Truth to Power. Serj and Marc talk about how so much of Serj's life has been dedicated to telling the story of the Armenian genocide and how that mission informs his activism around the struggles in present day Armenia, as well as other human rights efforts around the world.
