On today's episode, I talk to artist Jamie McKelvie. Born in London, Jamie came to prominence in the world of comics through his collaborations with Kieron Gillen. In 2003, the two started a comic strip in PlayStation Magazine that lasted for three years. This led to their book Phonogram in 2006, and its subsequent sequels, as well as Young Avengers and The Wicked + The Divine. He's also illustrated stories and designed characters for Marvel on books like Cable, The Defenders, X-Men, Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel among others and created art for bands such as CHVRCHES, Art Brut and Tegan & Sara. Most recently, Jamie has been writing and drawing his own series One for Sorrow, which is being published by DSTLRY! It's Halloween, so it's time for spooky episodes of Star Trek! There are some ominous cucumber sandwiches, some salt and a lot of air vents this year! The Man Trap gives us the classic TOS villain of the Salt Vampire and some shapeshifting shenanigans. There's also an amazing glove puppet plant. Dead Stop has a brightly-lit rest stop with offers that are too good to be true. Including why it was on ‘spookiest Star Trek episode' listicles. Persistence of Vision brings us some horror in the Delta Quadrant as it looks like Janeway's losing her mind. The characters and sandwiches from her Gothic novel holodeck program are appearing in the real world! 10:22 - The Man Trap (TOS) 37:58 - Dead Stop (Enterprise) 1:05:02 - Persistence of Vision (Voyager) Miles guested on Breakfast in the Ruins where he talked about some more of James Herbert's rat books! https://breakfastintheruins.podbean.com/e/halloween-special-2023-james-herbert-s-domain/ Talking points include: James Herbert, Classic Dr Who, Talking Heads: Stop Making Sense, Rupert & The Frog Song, The Wicked + The Divine, Yellow Submarine, paintballing, Werewolf, Doctor Zachary Smith, Seth MacFarlane, Logan's Run, The Mountain Goats, Lost, Robson & Jerome, PJ & Duncan, Todd in the Shadows' review of From Justin to Kelly, Cube, The OC, Miami Vice, some Cube 2: Hypercube action, space in Star Trek is Warhammer terrifying, Stargate Universe, Dead Space, Mariah Carey has traumatised us both, Bothans, Mass Effect 2 Relationship Choices and a budget Colin Firth. On today's episode, I talk to Eisner Award-winning comics writer Kieron Gillen. Originally from Stafford in the West Midlands of England, Kieron began his writing career as a games journalist, writing for publications like PC Gamer UK, Wired, The Guardian among others. HIs early comics work included a comic strip with Jamie McKelvie, which started their long and celebrated working partnership that led to incredible comics like Phonogram, Young Avengers and The Wicked + The Divine. While Kieron's works are too numerous to name, some of his best knows comics include his Uncanny X-Men run, Die, Star Wars: Darth Vader, Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, Loki: Journey Into Mystery, and most currently Eternals, Immortal X-Men and the massive crossover Judgment Day! THE LEFT HAND IN THE QUIET COUNCIL, NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM! The Quiet Council rules the Krakoan age, for better... or worse. Now, shaken by INFERNO and X LIVES / X DEATHS OF WOLVERINE they strive to hold together, no matter how much they want to tear each other apart. Writer Kieron Gillen (UNCANNY X-MEN, ETERNALS, The Wicked + The Divine, Die) returns to the world of X with artist Lucas Werneck (TRIAL OF MAGNETO) to bring us all into the room where it happens. “It” being “the most powerful people on Earth deciding the fate of the whole planet.” Prepare for sinister secrets to be revealed and learn that some secrets are more sinister than others... HATED. FEARED. FOREVER. The island-nation of Krakoa was founded under the idea of mutant sovereignty and is governed over by the collective known as the Quiet Council. Over time, council members have come and gone - but the recent addition of Destiny to the council promises to test the foundations of Krakoa like nothing else before. After all, with Krakoa now firmly established in the world and galactically, it's becoming more and more clear that each council member has their own agenda...

I'm over the moon to get my friend and British comics hero Jamie McKelvie on this episode of The OCD Chronicles. It certainly took some tooing and froing - but I do think it was more than worth the wait. As well as being the man responsible for Captain Marvel's current cool as anything suit, and, with his key writing partner Kieron Gillen, a string of brilliant comics series, Jamie was recently diagnosed with ADHD. I've long thought that OCD and ADHD were shitty bedfellows. Very different conditions, very similar consequences for a person's life – especially when diagnosed in adulthood. Here we have a conversation about how we're both trying to adapt, process and live with our respective diagnosis's.Want more? Bill then disappears due to the alien's intervention, the Doctor realizing this is a test to see if they can conquer the Earth.
