Dr Hilary Cass, now Baroness Cass, led a four year review into children's gender identity services in England. Her final report concluded that children had been let down by a lack of research and "remarkably weak" evidence on medical interventions, and called for gender services for young people to match the standards of other NHS care. In an exclusive interview Nuala McGovern gets Dr Hilary Cass's reflections six months on from releasing her landmark report.Alison Steadman is one of our best loved actors. Candice Marie in Nuts in May, Beverly in Abigail's Party, Mrs Bennett in Pride and Prejudice and Pamela in Gavin & Stacey, just some of the iconic characters Alison has brought to life. She's also won an Olivier Award for The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and a National Society of Film Critic Award. She is also a keen birdwatcher. She joins Nuala to talk about her memoir, Out of Character. This week, Brittany and Eric chat with theologian, writer, and author Candice Marie Benbow about her book, Red Lip Theology: For Church Girls Who've Considered Tithing to the Beauty Supply Store When Sunday Morning Isn't Enough. To say the book challenges every idea of religion that we've come to know as gospel is an understatement. Candice refers to God not as He but They/Them, she encourages the need for grace by telling her own story of being ‘the other women', and she makes the case that the Bible is a more overtly sexual text than we think. These ideas may come as a shock to most...but what's that old saying? If you scared, go to church!

We need to stop playing hit and run with people's faith.Deconstructing. Dismantling. Decolonizing. The last several years have felt like all the Ds all the time. What do you do when Sunday morning church culture and the story it tells is no longer enough? What do you do when you are reconciling passion for Hip-Hop, Beauty Supply Stores, The Divine 9 and Theology? What do you do when you lose your entire immediate family in one tragic moment? What steps you can take to begin to love your fear and get out of negative feedback loops. Candice's experience with needing to heal an ancestral lineage channel. How you can detach yourself from the thoughts that come into your mind and see them in a totally new light. Power Quotes From The Show "Plant medicine and breathwork are the top two methods that we use at Rythmia. The plant medicine is inherently the earth's way to usher in transformation and a new level of consciousness." - Christian Minson "Taking plant medicine is truly a soul contract. You are changing the neurological pathways in your brain. Yes, you can do that on a certain level by detoxing or attending motivational seminars and receive the essence of it but plant medicine is the deepest level of transformation and it sticks because you are rewiring your brain and making a soul contract. There is nothing else in the world that I have experienced, seen, or heard of that can do that." - Candice Marie-Fox "People have a concept of who they are in a labeled box. So, when they come to Rythmia and that box gets blow open and they finally have an awakening and see that they're so much more than that box they've put themselves in. The mastery is then going home and applying that awakening. However, once they go home, the real work starts as they have to apply that awakening to their thoughts, actions, and lifestyles in order to maintain and grow this realized awakening of who they are." - Christian Minson "Not every thought that comes into your head is necessarily yours. They could be guidance, intuition, or awareness for you to take the next step in your life." - Candice Marie-Fox "If you're dissatisfied with something in your life, it's because you're either thinking in the future or dwelling in the past. Breathwork will bring you back to the present because the only place where you can breathe is the present." - Christian Minson "We're all trying to get to a higher state of consciousness and getting involved in other people's energy will just lower our vibration. Don't take life too seriously; none of us get out of this alive and this is not the end. Our true home is that energy in heaven and it's so beautiful beyond belief. Sometimes we just get lost but once you drink the plant medicine, you're reminded to just be present, be a good person, and act from love. Literally let your thoughts, speech, and actions be in true alignment and the universe will act in your favor." - Candice Marie-Fox "Fear is the compass needle pointing north. Whatever you're the most afraid of, go in that direction. It's an uncomfortable sensation but it'll become easier to face that discomfort once you see the results. Today Candice Marie has a positive net worth, savings, investments and paid off over $47,000 in debt! This wasn't the case just six years ago when she didn't want to check her net worth because she knew it was in the negatives. While some of us worry about living paycheck-to-paycheck, Candice had to get use to a no-check-to-no-check lifestyle after struggling for years to find steady work after graduating college. Rather than get discouraged, she used this as an opportunity to become self-taught about personal finance. She began sharing her experiences through Young Yet Wise. The network she built and stories she shared there helped motivate her to stay on track and learn more about smart money management. She joins Paychecks & Balances this week to give you realistic tips for reaching your own financial goals. The eighth edition of the podcast which asks: a new version of Top Of The Pops with sketches? FUCK OFF! This episode sees the controls of the Time Sofa hijacked by our own Simon Price, who force-lands it smack in the middle of 1981. He's been saying for ages that '81 is the greatest Pop year ever, forcing us to throw down the frilly, fingerless gauntlet. Things start weirdly with Simon Bates looking like a supply teacher and the return of Slade and Alvin, but then it's wave after wave of 'bands' that don't even have proper drums and make records by just pressing a button, don't you know, interspersed with black men slinking about and even getting skinheads to wave their hands in the air. Any Brexiteers who can stomach Leee John being all sexually threatening and David Sylvian looking like Lady Di will be trapping a creased-up England flag in their bedroom windows in unrestrained joy to see a practically all-British line-up, and Madness have dropped another video, but it's not all good news: Barbara Gaskin comes on like a glammed-up Candice-Marie in Nuts In May, and a soon-to-be-on-the-dole Legs & Co look on as Lulu scabs out and dances with someone called Jeremy. Al Needham, Taylor Parkes and Simon Price pick through the dress-up box that is 1981, veering off to discuss dog auto-fellatio, throwing Molotov cocktails into Welsh churches, whether people in Birmingham are proud of Crossroads (or not), cousins who get pissed up at your auntie's do and accuse you of being gay, and why it's a bad idea to do an Ant Stripe with Tipp-Ex. The usual swearing, and edited dead fast in order to get it out before the end of the month, so if it's shonkier than usual, soz. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
