HOUR 2 Vitamin C - Crucial Building Block for Health-Carolyn Dean MD ND  Vitamin C – Building Block of Health  Over the last few weeks on my radio show, I've been sharing with you what I already knew and have been recommending, what is still being discovered, and what may yet be proven [which falls under the category of what I already knew lol]. The bottom line remains – the immune system is made of cells and we have to keep building healthy cells using the right building blocks. These building blocks are available to you in our Completement Formulas.  This week we are reviewing the value of vitamin C as a building block of health, vitality and well-being. To sum it up, I'll quote Dr. Rhonda Patrick,  an American biomedical scientist, researcher, and entrepreneur. I subscribe to Dr. Patrick's newsletter and was thrilled to see a publication simply titled “Vitamin C”, a 42-page, 20,000-word, up-to-the minute description of the benefits of vitamin C.  Here is how Dr. Patrick begins her paper:  Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is an essential nutrient, widely recognized for its antioxidant properties. These properties arise from its potent redox potential due to its capacity to donate electrons to oxidized molecules. Even in small quantities vitamin C can protect critical molecules in the body such as proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) from damage by reactive oxygen species, which are generated during normal metabolism, by active immune cells, and through exposure to toxins and pollutants (e.g., certain chemotherapy drugs and cigarette smoke). The vitamin also plays a critical role as a cofactor – a molecule that assists enzymes in chemical reactions. This dual nature of vitamin C means that it is instrumental in multiple physiological processes, including those involved in the biosynthesis of collagen, carnitine, and catecholamines. As such, vitamin C participates in immune function, wound healing, fatty acid metabolism, neurotransmitter production, and blood vessel formation, as well as other key processes and pathways.  The dual nature of Vitamin C! It's exciting, isn't it, to think about how many benefits you receive as you engage this versatile, essential nutrient?  Getting Vitamin C From Food  Unless you live in a remote community, untouched by the problems of modern farming, it's highly unlikely your local food supply will provide you with enough vitamin C. Even if you were to focus on eating foods with a high concentration of vitamin C, you would only end up denying yourself other nutrients or suffering indigestion (from overeating). And, if you try to get all your vitamin C from fruit, you may end up getting too much fructose-sugar in your diet.  Benefits of Vitamin C  helps repair tissues, including skin, blood vessels, bones and teeth  fights against heart disease and cancer with its high levels of antioxidants  can accelerate wound healing and helps eliminate bruising – which is low grade scurvy  improves vascular elasticity reducing blood pressure  reduces the stickiness of blood platelets, making them less prone to forming clots  can lower oxidized cholesterol levels: when Vitamin C levels are low, cholesterol becomes elevated; and when more vitamin C is consumed, cholesterol levels decline  increases type I collagen synthesis – collagen is the vital protein scaffolding of our body  helps reduce levels of lead, mercury and other heavy metals  reduces histamine in the body — the hormone that triggers allergies and asthma attacks  Tonight, we'll talk with Dr. Carolyn Dean about the Dual Nature of Vitamin C -along with a wide range of other health topics and clinically recommended nutritional assets to support your body. You will love hearing the beneficial interactions with our callers and hosts alike including the body/mind connection, identifying the ‘conflict' in the ‘conflict basis' of disease and much more!!  Video Version: https://youtu.be/_4KeAtkoEio About Dr. Carolyn Dean    Dr. Carolyn Dean MD ND has been featured on national media for over 30 years offering practical strategies to improve health, vitality, and well-being the natural way. HOUR 1 Your Body's 3 Levels of Defense-Carolyn Dean MD ND  Your body is made up of an ecosystem similar to the Earth's biological balance – a miraculous, complex organization of intelligent factors all working cooperatively together to produce our wonderful body.  Among our 30 million human cells live 39 trillion microbes – all of which have impeccably important jobs including the healthy bacteria and yeast that keep you alive and strong.    Your body is also designed with a wonderful method of defense – your immune system. Your body is defended at three different levels. The first line of defense are physical and chemical barriers like skin, hair, and tears along with gastric juices, saliva, and hyaluronic acid that defend your body when it first encounters an invader. Then we move on to the second line of defense made up of different types of cellular responses that destroy invaders in a non-specific way using fevers, inflammation, and direct one-on-one attacks to isolate and destroy the invader. Finally, if those defenses are breached, the body accelerates into the third line of defense where the body relies specifically on antigens to do its work. This is where the helper T-cells, CD-4 and COVID-19-8, become activated.  A nutrient sufficient body will have every asset required to work at all three levels of immunity in the body. End of problem. Beginning of solution.  Correcting nutrient deficiency is an incremental process and can be accomplished with the right protocol and lots of patience and self-love. It's one that requires daily input but offers long-term gains and protections when the body needs it the most.  Eating fresh, whole food, breathing lots of clean, fresh air, and moving the body and lymph system daily all support optimal immune system function. However, in the last two or three decades the soil and environmental toxicity of our cities and farms are such that dietary supplementation is most likely required. Biologically compatible, whole food dietary supplements, organic herbs, and homeopathy are excellent tools to bring your body back to biological and energetic homeostasis and fortification against invaders.    Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)(Whole C ReSet, Vitamin C ReSet Bery Powder)  This water-soluble vitamin, best known for its role in fighting infection, is a well-known effective immune health supplement but it is dose-dependent as shown by IV Vitamin C studies.  Vitamin D (D3K2 ReSet)  Vitamin D supports all functions of the immune system. Deficiency is associated with increased autoimmunity as well as an increased susceptibility to infection.  Zinc (Pico Zinc, ReMyte, Flora ReFresh)  Those with zinc deficiency are found to have low levels of T cells, which play an important role in the immune response and attacking viral-infected cells. This essential mineral is a common ingredient in cold lozenges and other over-the-counter cold remedies.  Selenium (ReMyte)  Selenium is a powerful antioxidant that fights oxidative stress and is crucial for the health and proper functioning of your immune system. Higher levels may help boost the immune system of people with HIV, influenza, tuberculosis, and hepatitis C.  B Complex (ReAline)  Vitamin B-6, also known as pyridoxine, is a water-soluble vitamin known for its immune boosting benefits. This vitamin plays a vital role in protein metabolism, cognitive development, and the production of glucose in the body.  Essential Oils (Flora ReFresh)  Essential oils like lemon and hibiscus offers immune support at the skin, hair and olfactory levels of the body. Essential oils can be used as aromatherapy or by applying to the skin. Known for their complexity, essential oils can work at all three level of the immune system to stimulate the immune system, increase the activity of certain cells and also interfere with inflammation.  About Dr. Carolyn Dean    Dr. Carolyn Dean MD ND has been featured on national media for over 30 years offering practical strategies to improve health, vitality, and well-being the natural way. HOUR 1 Chainbreaker: – When Emotions Interfere with Health -Carolyn Dean MD ND  As most of my readers and podcast audience know, I believe that the root causes for much chronic disease are 1. Magnesium and Mineral deficiencies and 2. Yeast Overgrowth. I have been working with the public to educate and correct these imbalances since the early ‘80's.  It may take several months, even a year, to reverse the effects. The way that magnesium and mineral deficiencies compromise every cell, tissue, and organ system in the body are well researched and documented by thousands of clinical studies. Yeast overgrowth, and the 178 toxins it can release into the body create another myriad of health issues that require dietary changes to master.  But what IF you've done all that and you still have some part of the condition you started with? Once the biological is sorted out then the next areas to explore are the conflict. Your chronic and persistent health problems may have their basis in emotional conflicts and stress.  Getting to the core of these issues is not the purpose of our radio show today but rather an opportunity to explore some simple exercises and resources that I have used over the years to help individuals recover their mental and emotional balance.  Stress Management  In my post, Sleeping with the Enemy, I list simple things you can do to clear your mind and emotions of conflict, worry, and stress. Here they are:  When a major event affects your life, try to remember that “This too shall pass.”  Stop watching the nightly news. Staying away from all news programs would serve you well.  Do not take your phone to bed with you at night. Leave it in another room, preferably turned off. The constant WiFi signaling of the phone impinges on your cells and prevents your body from fully relaxing into a deep, regenerative sleep.  You can release repetitive, negative thoughts by writing them down. Putting them on paper can literally take them “off your mind.”  Take and extra ½ tsp of ReMag before bedtime to relax your muscles and calm your mind.  Try to see the glass as half full; give praise for what you do have and try not to focus on what you think you don't have making use of the phrase “Not in my universe.”  Total Biology  Total Biology is the study of the conflict basis of disease. According to its founder Claude Sabbah, MD, “Disease is the brain's best solution to keep the person alive as long as possible.” So, if a person has a major conflict or stress that overwhelms the mind, the body may create physical symptoms in an attempt to relive the stress or solve the problem.  Affirmations  Affirmations are positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you tell them to your mind, your body and mind begin to search out the mental pathways to bring them to your life.  An affirmation is something to be verbalized with consciousness. As you make the statements, take the time to visualize and identify each symbol as easy as possible.   For example, A Small Property is one of my favorite affirmations to let the mind and body know that your health is returning to your body and it's under your control.  A Small Property – I was a small property ravaged by a storm. The fine weather has returned. The forest and the river have become calm. The house is vibrant and shines in the sun. And above all, the field is returning to its order, health and beauty. Thank you, my diseased/depleted organs, for I know you have done all this to save my whole being. And thanks to myself for doing my healing. Repeat this 10 times, 3X/day. To be repeated 10 times in the morning (before getting up), around lunch time for another 10 times; and 10 times at night (just before falling asleep) …   GENERAL AFFIRMATION: I am filled with love and understanding.  STRATEGY: To break the links to past illness, listen to the “Time to Say Goodbye”  STRATEGY: The link breaker: Walnut – Bach Flower Remedy “I break all links that hinder my growth.” Dosage: 5-10 drops three times a day  Theater of the Mind  Come up with a new story. Write one that you enjoy! Who would you be without your story? Who would you be with a new story that you enjoy more?  Walking Meditation and Prayer  Take yourself or your dog for a walk in Nature! Pray and meditate while you are walking in your garden or doing your household chores. Take a moment just to reconnect your awareness to your Higher Power.  Ho'oponopono  I blogged about this in 2010. Click here for the entire post. In the meantime, here is the Ho-oponopono Prayer:  I love you I'm sorry Please forgive me Thank you  Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)  This is a healing technique created by Gary Craig. It's based on the principles of acupuncture and balances your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies. People often refer to this as Tapping.  About Dr. Carolyn Dean    Dr. Carolyn Dean MD ND has been featured on national media for over 30 years offering practical strategies to improve health, vitality, and well-being the natural way. HOUR 2  ChainBreaker – When Emotions Interfere with Health -Carolyn Dean MD ND  As most of my readers and podcast audience know, I believe that the root causes for much chronic disease are 1. HOUR 2 Important Nutrients for Immune Support- Magnesium-Carolyn Dean MD ND  A recent research paper published February, 2021, highlight magnesium's special role in immune support as an assist to Vitamin D and much more.  In the abstract the research paper states:  Magnesium and vitamin D each have the possibility of affecting the immune system and consequently the cytokine storm and coagulation cascade in respiratory and viral infections. Vitamin D is important for reducing the risk of upper respiratory tract infections and plays a role in pulmonary epithelial health. While the importance of vitamin D for a healthy immune system has been known for decades, the benefits of magnesium has only recently been elucidated. Indeed, magnesium is important for activating vitamin D and has a protective role against oxidative stress. Magnesium deficiency increases endothelial cell susceptibility to oxidative stress, promotes endothelial dysfunction, reduces fibrinolysis and increases coagulation. Furthermore, magnesium deficient animals and humans have depressed immune responses, which, when supplemented with magnesium, a partial or near full reversal of the immunodeficiency occurs. Moreover, intracellular free magnesium levels in natural killer cells and CD8 killer T cells regulates their cytotoxicity. Considering that magnesium and vitamin D are important for immune function and cellular resilience, a deficiency in either may contribute to cytokine storm in the many respiratory infections.  Unless you've made a specific effort to include daily supplementation in your current health regime you are more than likely to be magnesium or mineral deficient as well as vitamin D deficient. Over 80% of American's are magnesium deficient and 42% reported to be Vitamin D deficient. Embarking on a daily supplementation plan is exciting and will offer you incremental improvement in every area of your life including immune support.   On tonight's radio show we'll talk about magnesium's special role with vitamin D and its other responsibilities in keeping the body properly energized.    Video Version: https://youtu.be/DCIvmncCXtg About Dr. Carolyn Dean    Dr Carolyn Dean MD ND has been featured on national media for over 30 years offering practical strategies to improve health, vitality, and well-being the natural way. HOUR 2 Important Nutrients for Immune Support-Silver-- Carolyn Dean MD ND  In May 2018 we introduced Pico Silver, our 20ppm concentration of stabilized silver ions in solution to our customers around the world and the results have actually exceeded our expectations! In fact, Pico Silver has become one of our customer's most favorite immune boosting formulas.  You see, when you introduce stabilized ions of minerals into your body incredible things begin to happen. And, as the benefits of silver are well documented in medical literature, the benefits of a stabilized, ionic form of silver in Pico Silver make those same results even more powerful and immediate!  It can be confidently declared and scientifically proven that the silver ion is far safer than antibiotics or any other antimicrobial ever created. It's still the go-to formula for healing even severe skin burns and preventing infection. In this regard, allopathic medicine knows that the characteristics of the silver ion far exceed the capabilities of patented antibiotics. Also, antibiotics cannot keep up with bacterial organisms' ability to mutate, nor do antibiotics work against viruses. In addition, antibiotics have many side effects, such as yeast infections. This is because antibiotics travel deep into the intestinal tract, where they kill the good bacteria along with the bad. It is also known and documented that taking antibiotics over a long period of time weakens the body's immune system.  Here are some more fun facts about Pico Silver:  Silver As A Nutrient  Silver can be considered as a necessary nutrient in the body because it is systematically concentrated in the body to a much higher level than occurs in nature. Since most minerals have been proved to be depleted from our soil and water, the same can be said for silver.  White Blood Cells and Silver  It has been shown by various bodies of research on yeast overgrowth that infectious organisms have gained the upper hand and overwhelm our ability to keep them under control. Silver ions weaponize white blood cells (WBCs) to do their work. Silver assists the WBCs and the immune system to attack infectious organisms.  Characteristics of Silver  Silver has the highest electrical conductivity of any metal.  Silver ions are highly effective and the body's response is nearly instantaneous.  The silver ion is an integral and important part of the body's immune system response to infections and disease.  The DNA of the body is already pre-programmed to utilize silver to fight infections and disease.  Silver ions are absorbed into the bloodstream and transported to all of the tissues of the body and stored on the surface of white blood cells.  The silver ion is bonded to the surface of adult stem cells and causes dedifferentiation of the adult stem cells into the embryonic state leading to tissue regeneration.  New, healthy tissue growth is at least five to six times faster utilizing silver in wound treatment when contrasted with non-silver-treatment.  The silver ion aids the body's ability to “find” the focal point of treatment, through the body's cell signaling mechanisms – its electrical conductivity.  The silver ion aids the body's ability to “digest” the pathogen.  The silver ion aids the body in the correction of the associated complex metabolic consequences associated with long-term infectious states.  The effects of the silver ion in anti-aging approaches is very promising although clinical research has not been fully funded.  The silver ion has a beneficial effect upon co-infections simultaneously.  The silver ion will readily pass the blood-brain barrier, allowing for interface and intervention with neurological diseases such as ALS, MS, polio, spinal meningitis, and viral encephalitis.  The silver ion increases the Red Blood Cell count.  The silver ion is known to negatively affect bacteria through: lethal oxidation, an “intermolecular electron transfer,” resulting in electrocution; a binding and chelating to essential pathogen receptor sites, which defeats the pathogen's mechanisms of invasion into host cells; an ion non-dependent heightened catalytic action; and cleavage, which fragments (and thereby destroys) essential pathogen/proteinaceous structures.  Once the silver ion ruptures a bacterial staph infection or certain fungal infections, the remaining silver ion particles begin to act as an antidote to the resulting poisons lessening the Herxheimer reaction.  The silver ion has a very high therapeutic value because there is no known lethal dose for silver ions.  Our customers are raving about the benefits of our Pico Silver. Here is one of numerous examples from Joan, a long-time customer.   Years of happy marriage to a "smoker" created in me a chronic dry smoker's cough, back to back sinus infections spanning several decades and even now 7 years as a widow, I still hack as if I was the smoker. I began to add Pico Silver to my daily routine and I found myself just adding a teaspoon here and there throughout the day...not really aiming towards anything specific...but specific things magically happened: 1. Bleeding gums from rigorous brushing stopped. 2. My morning hacking sessions (rib banging)went from dry to extremely wet, where I let go of a lot of lingering mucus in my lungs which is now being expectorated appropriately. 3. I am normally do not sweat, but I began to sweat ... which kept my body temperature from spiking hot to cold, and back...I just felt great. 4. I no longer have ankle swelling in the heat which has been my norm. 5. I seemed to be able to actually control my bladder when caught short...with a mental command and it obeys. 6. Lastly, my taste buds woke up...everything is just delicious and I'm satisfied with smaller quantities. And I have lost 2 lbs without doing anything but adding Pico Silver throughout my day to my sea-salted water. This I attribute to the increased neurological impulses that Dr. Dean says silver amplifies as it works alongside ReMag and ReMyte! Thank you so much, Dr. Dean. HOUR 2 Women's Bodies, Women's Hormones-- Carolyn Dean MD ND  Puberty is arriving years before it should, the birth control pill (BCP) is being given to twelve-year-old's and many women are infertile by the age of thirty. What are the connections among these facts? And what does a decade or more of using the pill, followed by a few years of taking fertility drugs, do to the delicate balance of female hormones? Millions of female baby boomers are trying to understand where—and if—hormone replacement therapy (HRT) fits into their lives. Today, more and more women are searching for safer ways to balance their hormones.   Hormones are measured in tiny amounts called nanograms and picograms. Depending on the stage in your menstrual cycle, normal levels of estradiol for a woman can fluctuate from 50pg/ml to 300pg/ml. How small are these amounts? Consider the following:  One milligram = one-thousandth of a gram   One microgram = one-millionth of a gram   One nanogram = one-billionth of a gram   One picogram = one-trillionth of a gram   Once you know that a nanogram is one billionth (1 with 9 zeros) and a picogram is one trillionth of a gram (1 with 12 zeros), you can get an idea of the power of hormones and better understand why our hormones can so easily be thrown out of balance using milligram doses of synthetic hormones.  HRT has been used since the 1950s. It was in 1966 that Dr. Robert A. Wilson was commissioned by the makers of Premarin to sell a nation of women on the age-defying benefits of an estrogen substitute derived from pregnant mare's urine. In the seventy years since then, we have finally begun to learn more about the side effects of HRT. Over that same time period, the chemical xenoestrogens in our environment that mimic hormones have been jamming up hormonal receptor sites in a process that Dr. Candace B. Pert (in her book Molecules of Emotion) calls “chemical rape.”   Hormones are chemical messengers that travel through the bloodstream to tissues and organs to help them do their work. They tell your body what to do, when to do it, and for how long. Hormones work slowly, over time, and affect many processes including bone growth, metabolism, mood, sexual function, and reproduction. When your hormones are turned on and properly balanced you have a stable cellular environment in which to function but an imbalance can send your entire system into disruption.   When it comes to the thyroid, adrenal, sex hormone axis there is an ongoing debate among natural medicine practitioners about what comes first and what do you treat first? Dr. Dean has commented that she thinks it's a moot point because there is a primary cause to much hormone disruption – mineral deficiency and yeast overgrowth at the cellular level of all these organs.  Think about that for a minute and really let it sink in because if you have struggled with thyroid issues, adrenal fatigue, hormone imbalance or insulin resistance there is a clear path of recovery before you. It's likely with proper remineralization your system can regain its balance and poise.   Investigating the role of minerals in the creation of hormones is a critical step to resolving these imbalances and one that Dr. Carolyn Dean has thoroughly researched. Once you understand hormones are chemical messengers then it makes sense that if the chemical messengers themselves don't get the message that minerals and vitamins provide – then how can they do their jobs properly?   Dr. Carolyn Dean invites you to join us this evening for another wonderful, information packed broadcast on Women's Bodies, Women's Hormones.  If you yourself are unable to make the show, you have the option to email Dr. Dean and have your question or comment included in our MailBag. HOUR 2 Arthritis- How to Supplement for Symptom Relief -- Carolyn Dean MD ND  According to RheumatoidArthritis.net, arthritis affects more than 46 million people resulting in disability for 19 million. Arthritis causes more disability than heart disease, diabetes, and back or spine problems. Osteoarthritis (prevalence ~26.9 million), gout (prevalence ~6.1 million), rheumatoid arthritis (prevalence ~1.3 million) in the US. Note: For example, a person who is newly diagnosed with arthritis is an incident case, whereas a person living with arthritis for 10 years is a prevalent case.  Arthritis means inflammation of the joints. It is a very complex and multifaceted disease. A diagnosis of arthritis is made by analyzing X-rays, blood tests, and findings on a clinical examination. The most common finding is wear and tear on the joints and loss of the supporting padding around and between joints.   You can develop joint symptoms due to toxicity from processed foods, sugar, gluten, alcohol, coffee, or food to which you are allergic. These toxins can gather in vulnerable, overworked joints or in areas where you have suffered an injury. The only way to find out if these substances are causing problems is to eliminate them from your diet and see if your joints feel better. An overlooked cause is a subclinical infection that targets the joints. Chinese Medicine addresses this issue and says the Divergent Meridians will direct an internal infection toward the joints to protect the internal organs.  The medical treatment of arthritis merely suppresses pain and inflammation with stronger and stronger prescription medication without understanding that those drugs will cause more inflammation as they build toxicity and drain the body of magnesium and other minerals.   Historically, the first drug used to treat arthritis and hailed as a miracle cure was cortisone. It wasn't long before the horrible side effects of bleeding ulcers, suppression of adrenal gland function and thinning bones turned the miracle into a disaster. Suppression of the adrenal glands begins in as little as 7 days on drugs like prednisone.  A series of NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) that claimed to be safer than cortisone were also associated with bleeding ulcers. A newer generation of NSAIDs – Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra – came under extreme fire in 2005 when Vioxx was shown to cause about 140,000 heart attacks – many fatal. I say that the reason these drugs cause heart side effects is because they deplete the body of magnesium. Ironically, magnesium is the best anti-inflammatory agent you can take for arthritis. Celebrex contains fluoride molecules that can account for its higher rate of heart disease side effects. Fluoride binds magnesium making it unavailable to the body. The resulting MgF2 compound is brittle and deposits in bone, joints, cartilage and tendons creating or increasing symptoms of arthritis. Now we have an absolute epidemic of opioid addiction from the flagrant use of this highly addictive drug. Add to that the addition of the poisonous drug fentanyl to street drug opioids and you have killer combination.  Menopausal women often develop arthritic symptoms. Does cessation of the monthly period, which serves to rid the body of toxins, mean that, instead, the toxins are building up in the joints? The same might be said for iron build-up and high levels of hemoglobin; some researchers believe that women escape heart disease because their blood is not as high in iron and as thick as men's blood. Because women lose blood every month, there is less strain on the heart. Donating blood at the local blood bank can be a sure way to thin out your blood and also stimulate the production of a fresh crop of red blood cells. However, don't forget that proper hydration and a good diet free of sugar and processed foods and drinking plenty of pure water can also keep the blood from sludging and clumping.  What if one of the causes of arthritis is a mineral deficiency but most doctors, who know nothing about recommending minerals to their patients, will never be able to help soothe or relieve arthritis symptoms in a safe, natural way?  Our Completement Formulas help to soothe the symptoms of arthritis in several ways: they can alleviate symptoms caused by mineral and vitamin deficiencies, build cartilage, treat pain and inflammation, and help you avoid the potentially life-threatening side effects of anti-inflammatory medications.  Minerals do their best work inside cells. They pull water in after them to assist in thousands of metabolic processes. If you are deficient in minerals, water has nowhere to go and ends up in tissue spaces causing painful swelling. If you are deficient in minerals you will also have more auto-immune disease, more inflammation, more pain, and more swelling.  My recommendations include:  ReMag is a fully absorbed, bioavailable, non-laxative magnesium. Dosage: ½-1 tsp twice per day. This mineral drives 1,000 enzyme systems in the body. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and confers the proper resiliency to bones and joints.   ReMyte - is a fully absorbed, bioavailable, multiple mineral that contains 12 complementary minerals many of which will help alleviate the symptoms of osteoarthritis including Magnesium, Boron, Calcium, Zinc, Manganese, Copper  ReAline - sulfur, which promotes the health of ligaments, cartilage, collagen, and tendons can be accessed in ReAline through the two sulfur amino acids, l-methionine, and l-taurine. Methionine and 4 of the B vitamins in ReAline provide methyl groups to the liver's detoxification pathways.  Pico Silver -   As I mentioned earlier, Chinese Medicine defines a type of arthritis that is caused by internal infections being directed at the joints – in an effort to protect the internal organs. Thus Pico Silver can play a major role in helping support the immune system against subclinical infections.  Whole C ReSet is a food-based, organic Vitamin C Complex and one of our Completement Formulas. Vitamin C assists the body in many ways. It is a cofactor in 8 enzyme processes in the body. It assists the growth, maintenance, and repair of skin, blood vessels, bones, and teeth. It is a powerful antioxidant, essential for wound healing, a strong immune system, helps eliminate bruising, strengthens the adrenals, and helps absorb iron.   Wondering if this all works? Consider Gracie's story:  “My 73-year old friend, Grace, who has arthritis, was diagnosed with trigger finger and she was given a cortisone shot but it only lasted 4 weeks. Arthritis gives her excruciating pain and she can't use her hands till the afternoon and her hands are so swollen that she can't even see between her fingers. So I introduced her to ReMag and so far she is sleeping much better. I told her to give it time cause it has been only 3 weeks. Then I told her about ReMyte. She received the ReMyte on Friday and started taking it and called me today, which is 2 days later and told me her pain and swelling subsided quite a bit and for the first time in a long while she can open and close her fingers. I'm so excited for her. The doctors said they could only help her with cortisone shots or surgery and she held off on the surgery because they couldn't guarantee it would work.”  Tonight we'll be talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about Arthritis: How to Supplement for Symptom Relief along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions. HOUR 2 The Power of Potassium – Improving Bone and Organ Health– Carolyn Dean MD ND  Is Potassium Important for Good Health?  In my eBook, ReMag & ReMyte – Invisible Minerals Part II, I talk about the importance of potassium:  Potassium is the third most abundant element in the human body.. Potassium is mostly found inside the cells to the tune of 98%, whereas 98% of the body's sodium is found outside the cells. The intracellular-to-extracellular dance of potassium and sodium helps create and conduct electrical impulses in muscle cells and nerves. Calcium and magnesium have a similar dance card.  Potassium deficiency leads to muscle cramps and arrhythmias, but to a lesser extent than magnesium deficiency, the reason being that potassium deficiency is less common than magnesium deficiency.  Since 98% of potassium is found inside the cells, measuring potassium in the blood can be misleading. We have the same problem with measuring magnesium. Potassium is an important electrolyte for electrical conductivity in the heart, as is magnesium. So medicine is unable to measure the two most important electrolyte minerals that create the electrical conductivity of the heart. Like most other minerals, potassium activates various enzymes; the most surprising one is related to sugar metabolism.  In my eBook Pico Potassium: Magnesium's Best Friend, I write about the significant role of potassium in preventing strokes, kidney stones, improving bone health, and type 2 diabetes. I will include a few of these references in this blog:  Potassium and Stroke – NIH Office of Dietary Supplements  FDA approves the following health claim: “Diets containing foods that are a good source of potassium and that are low in sodium may reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.”   Potassium and Kidney Stones – NIH Office of Dietary Supplements  The most common type of kidney stones contains calcium in the form of calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate. Low potassium intake impairs calcium reabsorption in kidney tubules, increasing urinary calcium excretion and potentially causing hypercalciuria and kidney stones.   Potassium And Bone Health – NIH Office of Dietary Supplements  Observational studies suggest that increased consumption of potassium from fruits and vegetables is associated with increased bone mineral density and improved bone health.  Potassium and Type 2 Diabetes – NIH Office of Dietary Supplements  Magnesium deficiency is a marker for diabetes and has an effect on insulin secretion. Unfortunately, that information is not applied clinically. Potassium is also needed for insulin secretion from pancreatic cells and hypokalemia impairs insulin secretion, possibly leading to glucose intolerance and eventually Type 2 Diabetes.   Potassium for Cardiac Arrhythmias - National Council on Potassium   Maintenance of optimal potassium levels (at least 4.0 mmol/L) is critical in these patients and routine potassium monitoring is mandatory. The co-administration of magnesium should be considered to facilitate the cellular uptake of potassium. They leave out the fact that magnesium itself is crucial to prevent and treat heart arrhythmias.  The Relationship between Potassium and Magnesium  A potassium deficiency may be found on a blood test but not show a magnesium deficiency. If you have low magnesium and low potassium, your potassium won't improve when you take potassium supplements unless you also take magnesium. Because doctors don't use an accurate test for magnesium, they never find the underlying problem. Additionally, low potassium levels can increase urinary magnesium loss, and magnesium deficiency exacerbates a potassium deficiency.  The RDA for potassium is 4-5 grams, which is 4,000-5,000mg daily, because potassium levels in the body are quite high. You can get potassium through your diet, especially if you eat a lot of vegetables. But throwing away the cooking water also throws away all the potassium. Here is a list of some potassium-rich foods:  all green, leafy vegetables  bananas  nuts  avocados  citrus fruit  potatoes  Should I Take Potassium Supplements?  After medical school and during my naturopathic training and when I was researching my Magnesium Miracle book, l learned that potassium has very important interactions with magnesium, however I was still reluctant to recommend potassium supplements because of the FDA ruling that a potassium supplement can only contain 99 mgs of potassium per dose. Instead, I encouraged people to make potassium broth and eat lots of vegetables, thinking that would be enough.  I changed my mind about potassium supplements when I began embracing the Keto diet and realized people were no longer eating enough vegetables. Also some of my customers with atrial fibrillation, even though they were becoming saturated with ReMag, still had symptoms, which I realized were probably due to low potassium.. Some people were recommending cream of tartar powder for its high potassium content – but I was concerned that they wouldn't know how much potassium they were taking and could overdose or under dose.  What If I Need More Potassium?  Exactly. Years of experience show me that many of our customers needed more potassium. When I decided to make Pico Potassium, I realized all I needed to do was concentrate the stabilized ion of potassium chloride that we have in ReMyte. On our FDA-compliant label, the dose on Pico Potassium is 99 mg per ¼ tsp. I recommend that if someone is not getting 4,700 mg of potassium in their diet; if their blood level of potassium isn't in the high normal range; if they have heart rhythm symptoms even when they are saturated with 2-4 tsp of ReMag a day; or if they are on a diuretic, they can take Pico Potassium.  Sharing the Potassium Love  Here is a report from a customer taking our Pico Potassium:  I'm on my 3rd day of Pico Potassium and I don't how to express it other than to say, I have reached another positive level of wellness, another level of calmness, in spite of the turmoil around us. Please convey my gratitude to the wonderful Dr Dean and her Team for this product. And it also tastes good as well. What a combination they all make together. I suddenly love my water.  Tonight on our weekly radio show, Dr. Carolyn Dean will be talking about The Power of Potassium with our listeners and call-in radio show guests. HOUR 1 The Power of Potassium – Improving Bone and Organ Health– Carolyn Dean MD ND  Is Potassium Important for Good Health? HOUR 1 Top Two Supplements for Bone Health- Magnesium and Vitamin D – Carolyn Dean MD ND  Magnesium can do so much that it makes people skeptical that one simple mineral can be crucial for so many activities in the body. Magnesium is necessary for 1,000 enzyme systems in the body that control many thousands of chemical interactions.  Magnesium is crucial for bone health but it has a much broader scope than even I imagined when I first began researching it in the late 90s. Most people think that calcium is the most important factor in bone health. Vitamin D is also a necessary component. However, it's not well known that magnesium is required to convert vitamin D into its active form so that it can turn on calcium absorption.   I became aware of the pivotal association between vitamin D and magnesium after receiving emails from people experiencing magnesium deficiency symptoms after they began taking high doses of Vitamin D. Some doctors are still prescribing 50,000IU of Vitamin D a week when, in reality, vitamin D is similar to sunshine in the sense that it should be supplemented daily.   It turns out that all the enzymes metabolizing vitamin D require magnesium as a necessary co-factor. When you take high doses of Vitamin D and if you are already low in magnesium, the increased amount of metabolic work drains magnesium from its muscle storage sites. That's probably why muscles are the first to suffer magnesium deficiency symptoms. Twitching, leg cramps, restless legs and Charlie horses. Angina and even heart attacks affecting the heart muscle are also magnesium deficiency symptoms.  One woman reported that her vitamin D levels remained chronically low (below 30) despite months of high dose supplementation with vitamin D. It wasn't until she added magnesium that things changed quite dramatically. With magnesium supplementation, her last Vitamin D level was 67, which for her was a miracle. This increase surprised her endocrinologist as well. She also noticed a big difference in how she felt. She no longer had chronic “unexplained” muscle tenderness and could exercise longer on her treadmill and felt great.  I think we should consider that part of the current vitamin D deficiency epidemic is an underlying magnesium deficiency. This in important information during cold and flu season. By adding magnesium to your daily vitamin D intake you can increase your vitamin D level and protect your bones and cells – the places where your immunity is made!    My thoughts were echoed in a 2013 study called “Magnesium, Vitamin D Status and Mortality” with this conclusion: “Our preliminary findings indicate it is possible that magnesium intake alone or its interaction with vitamin D intake may contribute to vitamin D status. The associations between serum 25(OH)D and risk of mortality may be modified by the intake level of magnesium.” (NEW 2 BMC Medicine 2013, 11:187)  Several other factors including the intake of certain nutrients that influence how an individual's vitamin D level responds to their vitamin D supplementation.  Recently, GrassRootsHealth published compelling information about the response of vitamin D dosing in relationship to the following nutrients:  Vitamin K2: that's why our D3K2 ReSet contains K2 – D3K2 is made from plant lichen instead of sheep lanolin, which is the fat from sheep's wool.  Vitamin B6, B12: which are in our ReAline formula along with all the methylated and food-based Bs.  Vitamin C: which is our Whole C ReSet, and Vitamin C ReSet Berry Powder  Probiotics: that's our Flora ReVive  And other key vitamin D nutrients including boron and zinc are in our ReMyte and Pico Zinc.  Tonight on her LIVE YouTube podcast show, we'll be talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about Take Magnesium For Your Bones along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions. You will love hearing the beneficial interactions with callers and hosts alike including the emotional and spiritual side of health and medicine.  About Dr. Carolyn Dean    Dr. Carolyn Dean MD ND has been featured on national media for over 30 years offering practical strategies to improve health, vitality, and well-being the natural way. HOUR 2 Candidiasis – Dragging Down Your Immune System – Carolyn Dean MD ND  Yeast overgrowth is another condition that's ignored by modern medicine. It's not a topic in medical school, yet it's a huge immune suppressant because yeast produces 178 different yeast toxins that have to be processed and eliminated from the body. That work uses up nutrients and takes energy away from other body functions – mostly the immune system. That's why it's important to focus on yeast overgrowth in today's show because this tiny, mighty organism opens the door to viral and bacterial infections. Candidiasis (yeast overgrowth) is nothing new; it's been around for almost a century, ever since Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin in 1928 and we began to use antibiotics in earnest in the 1940s. Yeast itself, a cousin to molds, has grown in human bodies since Adam and Eve. Candida albicans is the main yeast in the human body. It lives there happily enough, kept in check by beneficial bacteria in the intestines. These bacteria make vitamins and help digest excess sugar that gets past the small intestine. A very special group of bacteria make lactic acid, which protects the gut and vagina against yeast. It's a very balanced ecosystem. However, when you begin taking antibiotics, this happy bacterial environment becomes unbalanced. Antibiotics wipe out most of the good along with the bad bacteria leaving yeast unharmed. In the absence of any competition, yeast colonies grow into all the empty nooks and crannies of the large intestine and even work their way into the small intestine. Sugar from our diet feeds yeast and with the special lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria wiped out of existence, there is no more production of lactic acid to protect the delicate intestinal and vaginal tissues from marauding yeast. It is a scientific fact that when yeast cells reach a certain critical mass they change from a round budding stage to a thread-like tissue invasive stage. They are simply running out of food and looking for more. They pack their bags and migrate from their main home in the large intestine into the small intestine. In the small intestine, the yeast threads poke holes in the intestinal lining. With this superhighway to the blood stream, there is nothing to stop yeast chemical by-products (all 178 of them), undigested food molecules, bacterial toxins, and other chemicals from taking a one-way ride. The holes are not necessarily big enough to allow yeast organisms to get into the blood stream, so there is no blood infection of yeast, just vast quantities of waste products that should be flushed down the toilet, that end up causing head-to-toe symptoms when they leak into the blood. That's the definition of Leaky Gut,  when toxins leak into the blood stream and tissues of the body. When these toxins hit the bloodstream, they trigger widespread inflammatory and allergy reactions. Many yeast toxins like aldehyde, alcohol, zymosan, arabinitol, and gliotoxin have been named. They impair the immune system and the central nervous system. Others block thyroid function, impair female hormones and cause symptoms of PMS, and aggravate menopause but haven't yet been properly studied. Inflammation is being investigated as the underlying cause of heart disease, bowel disease, arthritic conditions, and autoimmune disease. It is also intimately involved with weight gain, fatigue, allergies, asthma, headaches, irritability, and dozens of other health complaints but medicine doesn't even acknowledge that yeast toxins play a role in the creation of inflammation. The bottom line: Yeast Overgrowth will cause the immune system to overwork trying to deal with the toxic overload. The stress of inflammation also triggers the adrenal glands, which raises cortisol levels making weight gain another casualty of inflammation. You can't lose weight when your cortisol levels are elevated due to chronic stress. That's because the body perceives stress as an emergency and the worst emergency for the body is starvation-therefore it's never going to give up an ounce of stored fat that it might need! Dr. Carolyn Dean has been educating people about yeast overgrowth since the early 1980s and has been recommending a dual approach to kill-off excessive yeast colonies in the body and restore the body's natural balance and well-being. Step One – eliminate the foods that feed yeast and they begin to starve! Step Two involves restoring the body's structure and function so your body can thrive again.  Tonight on our internet-based radio show we will talk about Candidiasis – Dragging Down Your Immune System. If you yourself are unable to make the show, you have the option to email us and have your question or comment included in our MailBag Segment that is featured in Hour Two. HOUR 2 Top 6 Anti-Inflammatory Nutrients – Carolyn Dean MD ND  In medical school we learned about inflammation but not that it is a major cause of chronic disease. I've been saying this for years and now allopathic medicine is agreeing. An April, 2020 Medical News Today article says that inflammation contributes to the following chronic illnesses: metabolic syndrome, which includes type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.   If you Google my name and inflammation you'll access a whole screen-full of blogs like “Excess Calcium Fuels Neuro-Inflammation.” “Magnesium The Safe and Natural Anti-inflammatory” In my book, The Magnesium Miracle, I mention inflammation 93 times. I've also warned that drug companies are constantly looking for “safe” anti-inflammatory drugs. They struck out with the NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) because they cause so many side effects – the worst of which is heart disease. But the deeper reason that many drugs have serious side effects is that they can cause magnesium deficiency – and therefore inflammation!  In addition to the essential role of magnesium, consider the role of the omega's, vitamin A and E as well as zinc and vitamin D. And then consider, again, my recommendations for achieving the RDI's [Recommended Daily Intake] for each of these anti-inflammatory co-factors through diet and supplementation with my Completement Formulas:  Magnesium  A breakthrough study from 2006 entitled Magnesium and the Inflammatory Response shows that at the cellular level, magnesium reduces inflammation. In the animal model used, magnesium deficiency is created when an inflammatory condition is produced. Increasing magnesium intake decreases inflammation.  In a more recent study [June 2017], therapeutic levels of magnesium supplementation are shown to have a positive anti-inflammatory effect in the body.  With magnesium being actively required by 1,000 enzyme systems in the human body, internal functions that reduce inflammation with the help of magnesium are being newly discovered every year. For example, magnesium has been found to be a natural calcium channel blocker, which is crucial because calcium in excess is one of the most pro-inflammatory substances in the body.  This is why I  recommend a 1:1 balance of calcium with magnesium, while also taking into account the amount of calcium people get in their daily diets.  Zinc  In addition to magnesium, zinc plays a critical role in controlling the inflammatory response. A study from researchers at Oregon State University has found that improving zinc status through diet and supplementation may reduce the risk of inflammatory diseases. It has been known for decades that zinc has a significant role in immune function and zinc deficiency has been linked to increased inflammation in chronic disease and triggering new inflammatory processes.  Omega Algae A+E  One of the tremendous benefits of saturation with essential fatty acids is lowering inflammation. They are both important fatty acid components of cell membranes that contribute to the structure, fluidity, flexibility, enzymatic activity, and signaling between cells. Vitamin A is one of the most common vitamin deficiencies in the world and also has a role as an anti-inflammatory agent. and vitamin E is a potent antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.  When used properly, the omega's along with vitamin A and E help reduce inflammation and improved the immune response. They increase the activation of macrophages, neutrophils, and dendritic cells (the first-responders that help identify pathogen or virus in the case of an infection), T-cells (that destroy the pathogen or virus), and B-cells (to remember the pathogen or virus and act immediately to destroy it in the case of a future infection), among others.  Vitamin D3  Beyond its critical function in calcium homeostasis, vitamin D has recently been found to play an important role in the modulation of the immune/inflammation system via regulating the production of inflammatory cytokines and inhibiting the proliferation of pro-inflammatory cells.  Lifestyle Choices  Lifestyle choices play a significant role in an individual's susceptibility toward chronic inflammation as well. Dr. Dean points out, “Chronic, low-grade inflammation—sustained by excessive belly fat, a poor diet including processed foods and sugars, lack of exercise, smoking, and gum disease—may explain why lifestyle-related diseases have reached epidemic proportions in Western countries while remaining relatively scarce in the developing world.”  Incorporating nutrients is a choice one can make to prevent heart disease, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome which makes knowing about these nutrients vitally important.  Tonight on our LIVE podcast on YouTube, we'll be talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about her recommendations for controlling inflammation along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions. HOUR 1 Top 6 Anti-Inflammatory Nutrients – Carolyn Dean MD ND  In medical school we learned about inflammation but not that it is a major cause of chronic disease. HOUR 2 Magnesium- A Key Mineral for Cardiovascular Health– Carolyn Dean MD ND  Heart disease has become a dreaded condition because most people know it means a handful of medications and the certain knowledge that things are only going to get worse. But what if heart disease has a strong element of magnesium deficiency? What if you have magnesium deficiency and not heart disease? Magnesium deficiency is very common in people with a compromised cardiovascular system. In hospitals magnesium is administered for acute myocardial infarction and cardiac arrhythmia. Like any other muscle, the heart requires magnesium. Magnesium is also used to treat angina, or chest pain.  In your local clinic or practitioner's office, their response to magnesium deficiency may be a little different. Magnesium's role in preventing heart disease and strokes is accepted for acute conditions, with the use of IV magnesium,  yet many cardiologists do not recognize and respond to magnesium deficiency conditions in their primary care protocols.  After all, your doctor probably thinks magnesium pill is a laxative and certainly won't do an ionized magnesium blood test to find out how much magnesium is in your cells working away at 1,000 enzyme processes and involved with 80% of known metabolic functions many of which contribute to cardiovascular health.  An average of 1,671 American's die suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack every day. This is a pandemic! Millions of people are unaware they are walking on a very thin edge of the same health conditions as those who have transitioned- with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and on several medications to avoid having a heart attack. Yet the treatments for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar all deplete magnesium and cause worsening of these life-threatening cardiovascular conditions.  Magnesium acts by the same mechanisms as statin drugs to lower cholesterol.   Every metabolic activity in the body depends on enzymes. Making cholesterol, for example, requires a specific enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase. Magnesium slows down this enzymatic reaction when you have enough cholesterol.  HMG-CoA reductase is the same enzyme that statin drugs block. The mechanisms are nearly the same; however, magnesium is the natural way that the body has evolved to balance cholesterol when it reaches a certain level, whereas statin drugs are used to destroy the whole process.  This means that if sufficient magnesium is present in the body, cholesterol will be limited to its necessary functions—the production of hormones and the maintenance of cell membranes—and will not be produced in excess. Magnesium is also responsible for several other lipid-altering functions that are not even shared by statin drugs. Magnesium is necessary for the activity of an enzyme that lowers LDL, the “bad” cholesterol; it also lowers triglycerides and raises the “good” cholesterol, HDL. Another magnesium-dependent enzyme converts omega-3 and omega- 6 essential fatty acids into prostaglandins, which are required for heart and overall health.  At least 18 human studies have verified that magnesium supplements can have an extremely beneficial effect on lipids. In these studies, total cholesterol levels were reduced by 6 to 23 percent; LDL (bad) cholesterol were lowered by 10 to 18 percent; triglycerides fell by 10 to 42 percent; and HDL (good) cholesterol rose by 4 to 11 percent. Furthermore, the studies showed that low magnesium levels are associated with higher levels of “bad” cholesterol and high magnesium levels indicate an increase in “good” cholesterol.  In addition to the ‘traditional' form of heart disease, heart rhythm issues plague many Americans as well.  Atrial fibrillation is the most commonly diagnosed heart arrhythmia, reaching epidemic proportions. In the US, AFib hospitalizations increased by 23% between 2000 and 2010.  In 2010 there were about 5.2 million people with A-Fib; that number is expected to escalate to 12.1 million cases in 2030.  Fortunately for us, Dr. Carolyn Dean has a pretty good idea of what's going on and how to help millions of American's suffering with magnesium deficiency symptoms that affect the structure and function of the cardiovascular system. Dr. Carolyn Dean has been helping educate the public and practitioners about the role of magnesium in proper heart function and, in Dan's case, while he was waiting to see his doctor he learned quite a bit about how magnesium could support his health:  Hi, Dr. Dean. Three months ago, I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation by my General Practitioner. I am not on drugs yet and I have been referred to a highly reputable cardiologist here in Northern California who has me wearing a heart monitor for two weeks to see what's going on with the a-fib.  I am having to wait 2 months to meet with him to get the results and what he wants me to do for treatment. In the meantime, I found your booklet on A-Fib. This was very encouraging to read and I have started taking ReMag. I have noticed the heart palpitations when taking the magnesium are less or not at all and I have some days that are normal. I have had the RBC blood test and yes, my magnesium was low. I also had a cardio ultra sound and my heart is normal. I am very grateful to be making progress with ReMag and have more hope than before that I will be okay. HOUR 2 Happy, Bright, Calm Nutrition for Your Emotions -Carolyn Dean MD ND Stress is a response to circumstances which force a person to act quickly, change, or make some adjustment to keep things in balance. The circumstance which forces a person to act is called a stressor. Stress is also defined as intense feelings created by the stimulus of certain events. When a person is stressed, his/her body automatically jumps into an action which is called a fight or flight response. Stress is further defined as an emotional and physical provocation caused by pressure from a given situation.  The good news is that everybody faces stress to a certain extent and it is normal to be stressed since we are living in a world full of challenges. Stress causes our bodies to respond quickly and automatically jump into a defensive mode. It is quite normal to fight the stressor, or try to ignore it.  When we are stressed, our bodies immediately respond to the stressors by telling our nervous systems and stress hormones that it is time to act. When we face a threatening situation, our hypothalamus informs the adrenal glands to produce the hormones, adrenaline, and cortisol, and release them into the bloodstream. Adrenaline pumps you up but experiments using IV adrenaline show that it decreases magnesium as well as calcium, potassium, and sodium. Proving that when you are in a revved-up state and burning adrenaline, you are also burning off magnesium.  There are more than a dozen major metabolic processes that are affected by bursts of adrenaline, including heart rate, blood pressure, blood vessel constriction, and contraction of all muscles, including the heart. Thus, we feel palpitations, shortness of breath, and we may experience high blood pressure. All these symptoms are the body's reaction to stress. In order to fight or flee, our blood vessels open wide, thus allowing more blood to flow to the muscles and stored glucose from the liver pours into the blood stream for extra energy. And, of course, each of these functions uses up extra vitamins and minerals.  Anxiety can occur as a result of this outpouring of adrenaline. It can also be created when fear is present – fears stemming from predictable or unpredictable situations, which may be real or imaginary.  Anxiety is a common human emotion, part and parcel of our everyday life. Anxiety is about worries, concerns, nervousness, and stress. In fact, to feel anxious occasionally is fine because it prepares us to be ready for actual challenges. But persistent and prolonged stress that creates anxiety is extremely draining – especially when a doctor tries to treat it with medication instead of magnesium and stress counseling.  Yes, one powerful, positive response to protecting your heart and mind from excessive and overwhelming stress is appropriate nutritional support.   If your stress, anxiety, or panic is rooted in a nutritional deficiency, good news is coming your way. Dr. Carolyn Dean, author of The Magnesium Miracle [2017 Edition] knows that nutritional supplementation is a safe, effective solution to support the total well-being of the body and balance the fight or flight response to stress and anxiety.  Consistent, daily use of highly absorbed minerals and food-based vitamins are clinically shown to induce a feeling of calm and wellness as your nutritionally depleted body experiences relief.  Tonight on Dr. Carolyn Dean LIVE we're going to talk with our listeners about stress – panic – and anxiety – all the forms and ways it finds you and what strategies you can employ to smooth out your experience and live a lighter, brighter experience. You will love hearing the beneficial interactions with callers and hosts alike including the body/mind connection, identifying the ‘conflict' in the ‘conflict basis' of disease, and much more!!  Be sure join us this evening for another wonderful, information-packed broadcast. If you yourself are unable to make the show, you have the option to email us and have your question or comment included in our MailBag Segment. Remember, valuable information, suggestions, and insights about your health choices should always be discussed with your doctor.  About Dr. Carolyn Dean    Dr. Carolyn Dean MD ND has been featured on national media for over 30 years offering practical strategies to improve health, vitality, and well-being the natural way. HOUR 2 Safe Detox and the Skin -Carolyn Dean MD ND  There is no practical way to avoid all the toxins in the environment. You would have to live the rest of your life in a hermetically sealed suit (and it would be a short life since you couldn't eat or drink.) Fortunately, it's not so bad because there are ways to counteract many toxins and pollutants.   The organ systems of the body that protect the body are the skin, lungs,  liver, kidneys,  lymph and colon. Under normal circumstances, the skin and lungs along with the rest of the body are performing detox functions every minute of every day in an orchestration worthy of Carnegie Hall. But by far, the skin is the largest detox organ.  Under abnormal circumstances, plans to support the body's defense mechanisms should be deployed! Protecting the skin, lungs, colon, liver, kidneys and lymph system can be done effectively and naturally, with vitamins, minerals, and botanicals.  Doctors deny the necessity of external forms of detoxification – maybe because they think these 6 organs have it all under control? However, today, the skin and lungs as well as the gut, liver and kidneys are hard pressed to keep up with all the toxins, refined foods, viral pathogens, chemical contaminants, and pharmaceutical drugs the body is exposed to.   My approach to detoxification is to enhance what these organs are already valiantly trying to do as we continue to live in this world exposed to environmental toxins, viruses, medications, processed foods and water, and the outgassing of the electric environment.   The best defense is a good offense! Using nature as your guide it's easy to be proactive on a daily basis to safely navigate your life and minimize your health risks.  Tonight on her LIVE You-tube podcast show, we'll be talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about Safe Detox and the Skin along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions. HOUR 2 The Magnesium and Protein Miracle-Carolyn Dean MD ND  Magnesium plays many important roles in the structure and the function of the human body. The adult human body contains about 25 grams of magnesium. Over 60% of all the magnesium in the body is found in the skeleton, about 27% is found in muscle, 6% to 7% is found in other cells, and less than 1% is found outside of cells in the blood.  Magnesium's Role in Protein Synthesis  Magnesium is necessary for protein synthesis at the ribosomal level. The ribosomes are the cellular organelles where proteins are synthesized. Magnesium “activates” the amino acids involved and allows the mRNA to attach to the ribosomes. Magnesium is also found in the nucleus of the cell and is essential for the stability of the nucleic acids RNA and DNA. If DNA and RNA structure do not remain stable you may have mutations in the code and produce incorrect peptides or none at all during protein synthesis. Energy for the production of proteins must come from ATP as well. You have heard me say a hundred times that magnesium is required in 6 of the 8 steps of the Krebs Cycle to make ATP. Without magnesium being available in many areas of the cell, protein synthesis cannot occur.  The Role of Protein in the Body  We are just one big page of protein and it's true! Muscle, hair, skin, and connective tissue are mainly made up of protein. Protein is not only critical to every single cell in your body, but also is part of the structure and function of hormones, enzymes, antibodies – just about everything your body produces. Protein allows the neurotransmitters on our cells to communicate with each other. Additionally, on the macro level, eating protein slows down the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream, lowering elevated blood sugar levels, lowering insulin, and helping the body burn fat.  I try not to get too involved in the debate as to which source of protein is “the best” – animal or plant based – because I believe it's an individual choice based on results. If the results of a vegetarian diet are that you feel great, then it's a good choice for you. But if it makes you feel unhealthy, then add other foods.  Your protein sources should be chosen from the highest quality food you can find – organic, natural, free range, grass fed, GMO and hormone free. The “cleaner” the food source, the more availability of valuable nutrients for your body.  How Do You Know If I'm Getting Enough Protein?  I write extensively about vitalizing foods in my wellness modules including a segment on The Power of Protein. Here is a list of signs you are not getting enough protein:  Apathy, irritability, and a spaced-out feeling  Lack of muscle mass and weakness  Low blood sugar (or constant high and low blood sugar)  Diarrhea and intolerance to dairy products  Lack of stomach acid leading to gas and bloating  Low body temperature  Cravings for meat, peanut butter, eggs, dairy, nuts, or beans  Poor condition of nails and/or hair  Conversely, here is a list of evidence that you are getting too much protein:  Your meals consist almost exclusively of meat, eggs, or dairy  Osteoporosis  Kidney problems  Kidney stones  Dehydration – even when you are drinking lots of water  Ketones in your urine  Chronic bad breath  Joint pain  Constipation  Indigestion  Here's how you can determine the number of grams of protein you need to eat each day to stay balanced:  Metric Version: Multiply your ideal body weight in kilograms by 0.8. So, if a healthy weight for you would be 70kg you need 70 x 0.8 = 56g of protein a day. Multiply by 2 for growing infants. Multiply by 1.2 for growing adolescents. Imperial Version: Multiply your ideal body weight in pounds by 0.35. So, if a healthy weight for you would be 110 lbs. you need 110 x 0.35 = 39g of protein a day. Multiply by 0.9 for growing infants. Multiply by 0.54 for growing adolescents. Getting perfect, pure magnesium and perfect whole protein together is magical for our bodies in many ways. Tonight on our internet based radio show, we'll be talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about how The Magnesium AND Protein Miracle along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions for vitality and well-being. HOUR 2 Magnesium and Minerals for a Healthy Heart- Carolyn Dean MD ND  “Let's prevent heart disease” seems like a reasonable statement to us all. It's obviously not a good idea to wait until you have full-blown heart disease mandating a half-dozen drugs.   In my experience, the first step in preventing heart disease, diabetes, blood pressure, and high cholesterol involves incorporating magnesium first, along with other minerals as well as essential vitamins into your daily routine. Yes, daily!   Magnesium is a dietary mineral, that is no longer in our diet, which has a wide array of life-essential, biological activities in the body - 1,000 to be exact. Adequate magnesium is a fundamental requirement for optimum function of the cardiovascular system, the nervous system, and skeletal muscle, as well as the uterus and GI tract. Magnesium is also needed within the cells for the production of energy, which is critical for our heart muscles.  Magnesium and Metabolic Energy  As mentioned above, magnesium is a necessary component for over 1,000 enzymatic reactions in the body. I've mentioned many times that the Krebs Cycle that makes ATP energy molecules, utilizes magnesium in 6 of its 8 steps.  Magnesium and Muscle Function  Skeletal and heart muscle use up large amounts of ATP. ATP with the help of magnesium powers the cellular “calcium pump” which removes calcium from the cells, allowing muscle cells to relax. Because it participates in these ATP-controlled processes, magnesium is vitally important for muscle contraction and relaxation. By controlling the flow of sodium, potassium, and calcium in and out of cells, magnesium also regulates the function of nerves.  Magnesium and Heart Function  Magnesium's importance for heart health is widely recognized. Through its influence on the heart's electrical conduction system, magnesium is essential for maintenance of a smooth, regular heartbeat. Magnesium appears to help the heart resist the effects of stress. Magnesium deficiency aggravates cardiac damage due to acute systemic stress (such as caused by infection or trauma), while magnesium supplementation protects the heart against stress.    Magnesium and Circulation  A 2000 study from Circulation suggests that magnesium is needed for heart health. Half of the patients participating in the study took 365 mg of magnesium twice daily for six months, while the other participants took a placebo. At the end of the study, patients taking magnesium showed better heart vessel function and their hearts remained less stressed while on the treadmill. Almost 75 percent of the participants were magnesium-deficient when the study began, but most levels rose to normal figures.  Magnesium and Happy Heart Rate  Magnesium helps maintain a healthy heartbeat working together with the other electrolytes, calcium, potassium. Specifically, the heart is one big muscle and calcium is responsible for stimulating the muscle fibers for contraction, while magnesium and potassium are needed for the muscles to relax. When your magnesium levels are depleted, calcium can overstimulate your heart muscles and lead to an irregular or rapid heartbeat.  The correlation between supplementation and heart health  The information posted by the Office of Dietary Supplements shows the correlation between magnesium and heart health. They say that magnesium supplementation has shown promise of lowering blood pressure, which we know to be very true for our customers. There is also an association between normal magnesium levels and a reduced risk of sudden cardiac death. Magnesium intake can also reduce the chance of stroke.  About Dr. Carolyn Dean    Dr. Carolyn Dean MD ND has been featured on national media for over 30 years offering practical strategies to improve health, vitality, and well-being the natural way. HOUR 2 In A Mood? Look to Nutrients for Support- Carolyn Dean MD ND  Are you looking for ways to improve your mood? Just like your physical health, your mental and emotional health are also heavily influenced by having the basic building blocks of cellular health on the ready in your bloodstream and brain to make and sustain your mental health.  What are the basic building blocks of cellular health? We're so glad you asked! According to Dr. Carolyn Dean the building blocks of cellular health are the vitamins, minerals, and amino acids your body's living cells and mitochondria use to create your well-being.  Common mood disorders are easily recognized and so are their causes:  Anxiety and depression are related to magnesium and vitamin D deficiencies  Vitamin B6, B12, and folate deficiency are related to cognition, memory loss, and anxieties.   Dehydration can cause major mood swings along with fatigue, irritability and headaches.   Omega-3 fatty acids are necessary to create the cell membranes of nerve cells in the body and the brain.  Zinc deficiency is clinically proven to play a significant role in depression.  Other minerals such as calcium, chromium play supportive roles as well.  The bottom line: hundreds of researchers around the world have found that the biological processes of the body, as well as many aspects of the brain require nutritional building blocks a healthy mood!  If you are struggling with emotional imbalance, irritable moods, and mental health challenges, you may try to cope by overeating, smoking, drinking alcohol, taking street drugs, or other addictive behavior to distract yourself from your problems. We are a nation suffering with an increasing incidence of anxiety, depression, and drug problems. Yet if you go to a doctor, Instead of treating stress reactions properly with magnesium, each year, millions of people are introduced to the merry-go-round of psychiatric drugs and psychological counseling for symptoms that may in fact be rooted in magnesium deficiency.  SO how do we use vitamins and mineral to stabilize our mood and support our mental health and clarity? “The way to begin a vitamin and mineral regime is to recognize your deficiencies and adjust accordingly,” says Dr. Dean.  Magnesium, vitamin C and trace minerals will support the adrenal glands, vitamin B, zinc, calcium and magnesium have all been proven effective to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, vitamin D – sunshine in a bottle – has wonderful mood-elevating benefits, and low potassium has been linked to mood changes and low energy levels.  Other healthy easy-to-do strategies for mood management include giving thanks for what you have; getting outside in the sun and fresh air; practicing mindful movement; deep breathing exercises, and not listening to the news! You should shut off menacing media in your home and in your bedroom!!! Listening to the evening news while you eat or before you go to bed will keep your mind and body in a state of agitation that is simply not healthy. It may be the first step to balanced mental health!  About Dr. Carolyn Dean    Dr. Carolyn Dean MD ND has been featured on national media for over 30 years offering practical strategies to improve health, vitality, and well-being the natural way. HOUR 2 Vitamin D - Your Daily Intake and Co Factors- Carolyn Dean MD ND  Vitamin D is a necessary nutrient for the body. It's used in most body processes, such as cellular functioning, bone remodeling, calcium absorption, and immune support. Research indicates it can improve longevity, boost immunity and may even brighten your mood.  While the majority of studies focus on Vitamin D3 benefits, it's important to note that much of the population is still deficient in Vitamin D3. The risks for being deficient in vitamin D include:  1). Fear of cancer and compulsive use of sunscreens  2). Avoiding the great outdoors  3). An abysmally low RDA for Vitamin D – 400IU when we probably need 10,000IU  4). Living at higher latitudes – less sun strength and exposure  5). Darker skin, because it requires longer sun exposure.   6)  Cold skin, which is less receptive to the sun than warm skin.  7). Being overweight – more than 30% fat makes it harder to absorb Vitamin D.    8). Unhealthy Gut, Liver, Kidneys –reduce the amount of Vitamin D that is absorbed.   9). Medications, which can zap vitamin D production   The Body Needs All Forms  Vitamin D from the Sun as well as supplemental doses of vitamin D3 through a highly effective vitamin D3 supplement are essential to achieving the recommended levels of vitamin D needed in the body for daily optimal health. Without enough vitamin D available the immune response of the body can be hindered.   Don't forget Co-Factors  "While many people are beginning to realize the amazing health benefits that vitamin D has to offer in the prevention of disease, they may not be getting the full benefits from vitamin D without also supplementing their diets with magnesium, which is a vital nutrient that works synergistically with vitamin D," says Dr. Dean. Magnesium is absolutely necessary for the activation of vitamin D. Magnesium deficiency is the reason why the studies on Vitamin D are inconclusive with researchers put down vitamin D supplementation and others support   And, magnesium deficiency is why extremely high dose Vitamin D supplementation (50,000IU – usually of synthetic D2) can be detrimental because it steals all the body's magnesium giving you magnesium deficiency symptoms. Several other factors including the intake of certain nutrients that influence how an individual's vitamin D level responds to their vitamin D supplementation.  Recently, GrassRootsHealth published compelling information about the response of vitamin D dosing in relationship to:  Vitamin K2, that's why our D3K2 ReSet contains K2 – D3K2 is made from plant lichens instead of sheep lanolin, which is the fat from sheep's wool.  Vitamin B6, B12, which are in our ReAline formula along with all the methylated and food-based Bs.  Vitamin C, which is our Whole C ReSet and Vitamin C ReSet Berry Powder  Probiotics, that's our Flora ReVive  And other key vitamin D nutrients including boron and zinc, which are in our ReMyte and Pico Zinc.  Tonight on her LIVE You-tube podcast show, we'll be talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about Vitamin D3 – Your Daily Intake and Co-Factors -along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions. You will love hearing the beneficial interactions with callers and hosts alike including the emotional and spiritual side of health and medicine.  About Dr. Carolyn Dean    Dr Carolyn Dean MD ND has been featured on national media for over 30 years offering practical strategies to improve health, vitality, and well-being the natural way. HOUR 2 Adrenal Fatigue Reset and Revive- Carolyn Dean MD ND  Ongoing stress and anxiety foster adrenal fatigue, a stress-related condition that occurs when the adrenal glands, hypothalamus and pituitary gland (together – the HPA axis) are functioning below their optimal level. The adrenals perform several vital roles in maintaining your health. Most importantly, they control your body's response to stress by releasing hormones like cortisol, DHEA and epinephrine, which are used to regulate your heart rate, immune system, energy storage and more.  Conventional medicine has a very narrow definition of adrenal function that swings between the two extremes of the adrenals being “entirely normal” or “totally destroyed.” Recently a customer reported that her endocrinologist scoffed at her saliva cortisol levels and her questions about her weakening adrenals and said, ‘the adrenals either work or they don't work'. At the point they don't work, he said he would give her a prescription for replacement hormones (synthetic).  In natural medicine we observe the adrenal glands usually function in between those two extremes due to many physical and emotional stresses that can strain the adrenal glands and diminish one's reserve. Because the only solution that allopathic medicine knows is hormone replacement, they don't recognize the need for mineral and vitamin support for the adrenals to prevent them from failing.   When someone exhausts their adrenal glands through compulsive exercise, this is called “overtraining.” When someone eats a high sugar meal, the blood sugar soars and then crashes. The crash triggers adrenalin to push the blood sugar back to normal, which depletes the adrenals over time. The adrenal glands' job is to keep the blood sugar levels constant but when they wear down, hypoglycemia can occur. When irregular spurts of adrenalin flood the body, anxiety and panic attacks are diagnosed. In none of these cases is the true cause of symptoms identified as adrenal depletion. Conventional medicine does not recognize adrenal depletion possibly because there is no prescription medication for weakened adrenals. There is only treatment for complete adrenal collapse – hydrocortisone. However, in natural medicine, the building blocks for repairing the adrenal glands are nutrients that are beyond the scope of conventional medicine. Unfortunately, when people who suffer from over exercising, hypoglycemia and panic attacks go to their medical doctor for a diagnosis they are given a prescription for antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication but not what they really need.  The adrenals don't stand alone, so in order to balance your adrenals you also have to address your thyroid and your sex hormones. Dr. Dean calls it a three-sided stool. When one of the legs of the stool is shortened, it affects the other two. This can be seen on blood testing; when cortisol levels go up, thyroid hormone levels go down. There is an ongoing debate among natural medicine practitioners about what comes first, adrenal fatigue or thyroid insufficiency and what do you treat first? I think it's a moot point because they are not looking at one of the main causes of both conditions – mineral deficiency, which means you can and must treat the two conditions simultaneously. Treating disease in a linear format, one thing at a time, is not consistent with the way the body works, where everything is interrelated and works synergistically.  Tonight on her weekly podcast Dr. Dean will be talking about Adrenal Fatigue – ReSet and ReVive along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions. HOUR 1 Thyroid Basics - Getting to the Root Cause - Carolyn Dean MD ND  Most general practitioners are intimidated by the complexity of endocrine disorders involving the thyroid, adrenals, and sex hormones and refer their patients to endocrinologists. These specialists depend on inaccurate blood testing to prescribe synthetic hormone replacement drugs, which is their main form of treatment.   There is no effort to find the underlying cause of endocrine problems or explore natural solutions.  Even when alternative books on the subject are written they end up taking a very similar path based on allopathic solutions. Two popular books on the thyroid will give you all the details about thyroid disease and explore alternatives but they both still focus on thyroid replacement therapy using natural and/or synthetic drugs. They are, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis by Izabella Wentz, Pharm D (2013) and The Thyroid Connection by Amy Myers, MD (2016). Dr. Myers suffered from hyperthyroidism, or Graves' Disease and Dr. Wentz overcame Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism, so together they cover all aspects of thyroid disease.  Both authors discuss the need to find the root cause of thyroid disease. They recommend a gluten-free diet, balancing gut flora, stress reduction, and immune system support. Wentz says, “Most patients with Hashimoto's and hypothyroidism will have weight gain, acid reflux, nutrient deficiencies, anemia, leaky gut, food allergies and adrenal insufficiency. Symptoms of impaired digestion, absorption, anxiety, chronic-fatigue and environmental allergies may be seen as well.”  Dr. Carolyn Dean, the world-renown expert on magnesium and mineral supplementation, agrees that thyroid patients may suffer all these associated symptoms but it's not necessarily because of thyroid disease, itself. In her almost 50 years of study and experience, she has narrowed the causes of thyroid disease down to the true root causes: mineral deficiency and yeast overgrowth – leading to a breakdown in the endocrine system which always involves the thyroid. This breakdown also includes the adrenals, sex hormones, immune system, the heart, kidneys, liver, gut, and brain!  One of the most difficult causes of hypothyroidism to diagnose is the environmental pollutants blocking thyroid hormone receptors. Thyroid hormones may even appear normal in blood tests, but cannot get inside cells to do their work as a result of hormone receptor blocking. Such is the case with chronic acetaldehyde poisoning, which is a byproduct of yeast metabolism. Similarly, with the female hormones, especially estrogen, which is blocked from getting into cells, even though blood estrogen levels may be normal.  Even alternative medicine doctors who say that the increased incidence of hypothyroidism may be due to environmental toxins don't realize that magnesium deficiency can allow chemicals and heavy metals free access to our cells or that yeast toxins block thyroid hormone receptor sites.  Tonight on our internet based radio show, we're going to help you sort this all out and separate the hype and misinformation! At 7 pm eastern time, we're talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about Thyroid Basics – Getting to the Root Cause along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions. HOUR 2 Testing For and Fixing Magnesium Deficiency- Carolyn Dean MD ND  Magnesium plays many important roles in the structure and the function of the human body. The adult human body contains about 25 grams of magnesium. Over 60% of all the magnesium in the body is found in the skeleton, about 27% is found in muscle, 6% to 7% is found in other cells, and less than 1% is found outside of cells.  WOW – why does the body require so much darned magnesium? Well, it turns out that magnesium is not only producing necessary enzymes and working in the mitochondria to make ATP but magnesium is also necessary for protein synthesis at the ribosomal level. If DNA and RNA structure do not remain stable you may have mutations in the codes and produce incorrect peptides are none at all during protein synthesis. Energy for the production of proteins must come from ATP as well. Without magnesium available in many areas of the cell, protein synthesis cannot occur.  Okay- so magnesium is super critical! BUT – how do you know if you have enough magnesium in your body to perform all the essential functions for human health? One way to be certain your levels of magnesium are well within the normal range is to get a magnesium RBC red blood cell (RBC) essential mineral test. Another option is to enroll in our GrassrootsHealth nutritional supplement research project and you'll get your magnesium testing as well as vitamin D, Essential Fatty Acids and TSH/Thyroid levels all through one at-home bloodspot testing kit.  Another way to determine if you have enough magnesium in your system is to pay attention to your body's performance and symptoms as Dr. Carolyn Dean recommends. By learning how to ‘read the signs' you can ensure magnesium balance and good health. Clinical symptoms of magnesium deficiency are physical signs that are clearly related to both its physiological role and its significant impact on the healthy balance of minerals such as calcium and potassium. Tics, muscle spasms and cramps, seizures, anxiety, and irregular heart rhythms are among the classic signs and symptoms of low magnesium. Latent symptoms are symptoms are present but concealed by an inability to distinguish their signs from other disease states. Caused by low magnesium intake prevalent in nearly all industrialized nations, they can include migraine headaches, insomnia, depression, and chronic fatigue, among others.  You can also determine if you are at risk for magnesium deficiency through your lifestyle. For example, did you know that most dark colored sodas contain phosphates? These substances actually bind with magnesium inside the digestive tract, rendering it unavailable to the body. So even if you are eating a balanced diet, by drinking soda with your meals you are flushing magnesium out of your system. Fluorides in toothpaste and drugs can also bind magnesium and render it unavailable as well depleting your storage sites and creating deficiency symptoms. Foods, caffeine, sugar, stress, and prescription meds are all within our power to control and manage so that magnesium storage sites do not become depleted.  Finally, aging is another factor in magnesium depletion. Older adults are particularly vulnerable to low magnesium status. It has been shown that aging, stress and disease all contribute to increasing magnesium needs, yet most older adults actually take in less magnesium from food sources than when they were younger.  In addition, magnesium metabolism may be less efficient as we grow older, as changes the GI tract and kidneys contribute to older adults absorbing less and retaining less magnesium. If you are above 55 and also showing lifestyle signs or symptoms related to low magnesium, it's particularly important that you work to improve your magnesium intake.  About Dr. Carolyn Dean    Dr. Carolyn Dean MD ND has been featured on national media for over 30 years offering practical strategies to improve health, vitality, and well-being the natural way.
