See all the Healthcasts at https://www.biobalancehealth.com/healthcast-blog I bet you have heard the idiom, “There is no free lunch”, or  “There is no medication without a side effect”, but did you know that medications that are prescribed by your doctor can have negative effects on your health that are never even discussed with you….so you should protect yourself by replacing the nutrients that your medications  remove from your body, and that must be replaced for you to be healthy. Statins -→ COQ 10 DEFICIENCY= fatigue and depression Beta Blockers -→ COQ-10 DEFICIENCY= fatigue and depression Oral contraceptives and oral estrogen/progestins-→ COQ-10 DEFICIENCY= fatigue and depression Antidepressants called SSRIs-→ COQ-10 DEFICIENCY= fatigue and depression Dosage: If you take any of these medications you need to take COQ10 200-400 mg/day every day! Thiazide Diuretics=HCTZ -→ Magnesium and Zinc Deficiency muscle spasms, prostate issues, constipation Take 50 mg of Zinc and 400-600 mg of Magnesium Glycinate a day to replace what is lost. NSAIDS (Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen, Meloxicam, Naproxen, Indomethecin, Daypro, Mefenamic acid, Voltaren)-→ malabsorption, depression, anxiety, and the vitamin and mineral deficiencies listed: Folic Acid Deficiency- Take Methyl- Folate 500 mg Iron Deficiency—Take Iron Bisglycinate (Ferrabsorb) Vitamin C deficiency—Take Vitamin C 500-1000 mg/day Amino acid deficiency—take Arginine +/- Ornithine. OR change your medication to Celebrex 200-400 BID  PPIs=Proton Pump Inhibitors (Omeprazole, Prilosec, Pantoprazole, Lansoprazole, Protonix) are taken for stomach ulcers, H. Pylori infection and gastric reflux PPIs Increase Homocysteine which increases your risk of stroke, MI, and Pulmonary embolism.  PPIs decrease the absorption of many nutrients.  They actually cause malabsorption of essential nutrients.   Replace these nutrients with supplements, but much of what you take won't be absorbed unless you take daily Probiotics:  B12 – take methyl B12 1000 mcg/day Folate – take as methyl folate 5,000mcg/day Vitamin D – take 5,000 IU/day Note: PPIs can even cause the growth of dangerous gut bacteria causing chronic Hemophilus. If you have chronic vaginitis that smells fishy, it could be your PPIs! If you have this stop the PPI, take Pepcid instead (histamine receptor blocker) or nothing and take probiotics to repair the damage the PPIs have caused. These nutrients need to be replaced to keep you healthy, however it is better for most patients to only take PPIs for 2 weeks at a time or substitute a histamine receptor blocker like: Pepcid, Zofran. Surgery It is not just the medications doctors prescribe for their patients; sometimes surgical procedures can cause chronic diseases through preventing nutritional nutrients to enter your body.   Removal of the gall bladder must be done, yet patients are not told what they can do to be healthy after the surgery. The gall bladder provides enzymes that help you breakdown foods, primarily fats and absorb fatty vitamins from your food and supplements.  If you have had your gallbladder removed you can become nutritionally deficient in A, D, E fat soluble vitamins, and you will promote the growth of abnormal gut bacteria and are at risk for leaky gut, Celiac disease, autoimmune diseases and malnutrition. Everyone who has their gallbladder removed should take digestive enzymes with every meal and take Probiotics daily. Bariatric Surgery for Obesity The last iatrogenic nutritional deficiency that I will discuss is Bariatric surgeries, all kinds that remove part of the stomach, or band the stomach or in any way physically makes the stomach smaller is related to nutritional deficiencies caused by malabsorption of vitamins and minerals.  The way to combat these deficiencies include taking: a probiotic daily digestive enzymes with every meal and all vitamins should be chewable or sublingual to be absorbed from the mucosa of the mouth  In Conclusion: Remember I am a physician, and my job is to promote wellness in my patients.  It is sometimes more important and lifesaving to take the above medications or have these surgeries, than to prevent a nutritional deficiency in the future.  We must follow those medical decisions with trouble shooting addition of nutritional supplementation to replace what these necessary medications and surgeries remove.  That is preventive medicine and why supplementation is often needed for our health.

It's normal to worry about how you'll feel waking up after surgery, and if you're suffering from breast implant illness (BII), you may be even more worried about recovering from those symptoms. Dr. Whitfield goes above and beyond to make the post-op experience as comfortable and painless as possible. He seeks the answers to the difficult questions about what's causing each individual's symptoms of BII and continues to care for and follow up with his patients for a full year after explant surgery. Dr. Whitfield's post-op protocol begins on the night before surgery with anti-nausea medicine, Celebrex to decrease inflammation, and a neuromodulator for anxiety. During surgery, a long-lasting block called Exparel prevents pain and keeps nerves calm for several days. This also minimizes the need for narcotic pain medication, which can make you groggy and cause constipation. If you've had an epidural or had this experience from another surgery, you already know why constipation should be avoided! To minimize the risk of infection, Dr. Whitfield does not use drains. Contrary to popular belief, the research shows that drains cause more infections because incisions are exposed to the outside environment and irritated by the drain itself. Lymph nodes are the body's system for fighting infection, and lymphatic massage is an important step for speeding the healing process along. For this therapy, patients are treated with the Ballancer Pro to flush out toxins, boost the immune system, and shorten recovery time by releasing fluids. Finally, and most importantly, you'll receive the pathology and PCR test results, which looks at 150 different types of bacteria, fungus, and mold. Hailing from Chicago, Paulette became the lead singer with Ask Rufus and was solely responsible for introducing the group to her dearest friend, Chaka Khan. Paulette and Chaka shared the lead in Ask Rufus for some time before Paulette left the band.  “I was so upset about leaving my daughter to tour with Rufus for long periods. I decided that the jingles were so lucrative that the best thing for me was to leave the group.”Moving from gig to gig, Paulette worked feverishly, and then, thanks to a recording produced by Donny Hathaway and Phil Upchurch, she was “introduced” to Quincy Jones. Upchurch, the world-famous jazz guitarist, sent a studio recording to Quincy. Shortly after that, Paulette became solo/lead singer with Quincy during his “Body Heat” tour, and he featured her on his Mellow Madness album – the title song co-written by Paulette. Next, they toured Japan, where one of Paulette's dreams came true: singing a duet live with the legendary Sarah Vaughan while Quincy conducted the orchestra. After moving to New York City, Paulette also toured and sang live with Luther Vandross and recorded with Luther on every album he recorded from Forever For Always For Love. Paulette and Luther met when she was a Harlette with Bette Midler and became fast friends because Luther loved Paulette's voice and said she and he had the most incredible blend. Paulette performed all of the Tammi Terrell duets with Marvin Gaye on his last tour, which was recorded live.  “I felt like I was Marvin Gaye's kid sister. He always made me feel comfortable on stage singing with him." As one of the most in-demand background vocalists in the industry, Paulette worked with some of the best artists, performers, and producers, such as Quincy Jones, Luther Vandross, Bette Midler, Dolly Parton, Diana Ross, Joan Osborne, Billy Idol, David Bowie, Keith Emerson, The Brecker Brothers, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez, Lauryn Hill, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lopez, Patty LaBelle, Deborah Cox, Michael Jackson, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Herbie Hancock, Anastacia, Teri Lynne Carrington. She also recorded duets with Johnny Mathis and sang a solo on Noel Pointer's last CD, arranged the background vocals, and sang on them for Noel Pointer. Paulette has performed at jazz festivals /clubs, including the International Jazz Festival in The Netherlands and Thailand, Japan, Monterey, Indonesia, China, Trinidad, Milan, Amsterdam, Moscow, and Bern, Switzerland, including Ronnie Scotts in London and the Blue Note in Milan and Tokyo. Recently at the Blue Note in Beijing, China asked back for the second time.It is also essential to note that Paulette has sung solo/ group on numerous TV commercials such as for Folgers Coffee, Kellogg, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Diet Pepsi (with Britney Spears), Cadillac, Cover Girl, American Express, Celebrex, MasterCard, United Airlines, Budweiser Beer, Coors, eBay, and Mercedes.  “I sang so many national commercials that I can't even name them. I did 600, at least."Listen and subscribe to the BAAS Entertainment Podcast on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Podchaser, Pocket Casts and TuneIn. “Hey, Alexa. See all the Healthcasts at https://www.biobalancehealth.com/healthcast-blog One of the new tests available to doctors and patients without a prescription is a test that tells you if you currently have arterial plaque and gives you reassurance for 12 years that you will avoid a heart attack from blockage of the coronary arteries.  The CACS looks for calcium buildup that shows white on the CT scan.  Where there is calcium in the arteries there is plaque. To me this is a wonderful preventive medicine adjunct to the care I give my patients. I no longer have to look at high cholesterol numbers and worry that my patient is going to have a heart attack, because I have found that high cholesterol is not always associated with development of arterial plaque! Let me back up and explain to you what heart disease really is. Your heart is a muscle that never stops beating until you die. It is fed by arteries that cross over and around the heart and the arteries feed the heart with oxygen, nutrients, and proteins to feed and repair the heart.  Heart Disease is really disease of the heart's arteries.  It occurs when cholesterol sticks to the arteries of the heart, which narrow the pipeline that feeds the heart.  As the plaque grows the arteries narrow more and more until the vessels clog and a part of the heart is deprived of oxygen and nutrition. That part of the heart muscle dies…that is a heart attack. Cholesterol in the blood does not mean the development of heart disease.  Yes, there is cholesterol in the plaque, but it takes inflammation which is the glue that sticks cholesterol to the arteries.  Some people have high cholesterol their whole lives and never have arterial plaque or a heart attack.  Cholesterol is not a bad lipid, it is necessary to our whole body, and our brain is mostly cholesterol, every cell wall in our body has cholesterol as the main component, so lowering cholesterol too low can harm you!  Statin dose that makes your cholesterol too low is damaging to your brain and all your cells. There is a new kind of dementia called Statin Dementia!  This is why I think you should not take a statin unless you have arterial plaque, or your habits increase the inflammation and the formation of arterial plaque. My own experience is key to my belief in this test.  In 2002 one of my friends who was a surgeon died at the age of 47 of a heart attack.  He had no sign of this ahead of time and it came as a surprise to everyone who knew him. I always have had high cholesterol and my husband has had it too, he was even placed on a statin at age 40, so I set us up for the NEW TEST the CACS. At that time the test was brand new, and the research wasn't back however seeing is believing and we have used ultrasound for diagnostic purposes for years in OBGYN, so we both had the tests.  Now the test is $99 at most radiology departments and at that time it was $1000/test!  I didn't care because it was worth knowing whether we would have a heart attack in the near future.  It turns out that we both had a score of zero (0) and there was no plaque!  Yea, I felt better and stopped worrying about my cholesterol. I was 47 and my husband was 51. I never recommended this test to my patients because the stats weren't totally back yet, and it was very expensive, until years  after I began my BioBalance hormone replacement and preventive medicine practice.  I began to read about the test and that it was reliable and a good way to tell if someone needed a statin or not. I began to recommend the test to anyone including anyone at risk or on statins. Over the next 20 years I ordered tests on my at-risk patients (those who had family histories of heart disease but normal cholesterol and those who had high lipids that didn't come down with bioidentical hormones. I was surprised when over the 20 years, at least half of the patients who had high cholesterol had no arterial plaque (no risk for heart disease and MI) and about half the patients who had positive family history, but normal cholesterol had no plaque!  So lipids and family history didn't mean anything!  These are the 2 reasons that patients take statins!  Patients are given statins blindly for positive family history and high cholesterol not knowing whether they are at risk or not, and one test for $99 can tell if you need statins or not! By the way, when I was 63 and John was 67 we had another CACS and I was still 0 and John who had been on statins for 27 years did have plaque!  His score was 141! The statin didn't work to prevent narrowing of his cardiac arteries. His new cardiologist was on board and put him on a different kind of cholesterol lowering agent and I put him on Celebrex to prevent inflammation that stimulates plaque formation.  Without this test he would have been on a drug that was not working— a statin! What is the test like? The test is a 2 picture CT scan.  It takes 5 minutes and can tell your doctor a lot!  It is recommended after 40 in men with a family history or who are on statins, and women after 45 who have the same risks or who are just anxious over having a vascular disease like an MI.  It also tells us about your other arteries, and those leading to your brain and pelvis without taking a picture of them.  If you have plaque in the arteries of your heart you surely have plaque in your other arteries all over your body! The pictures are taken when your heart is contracting and also when it is in diastole or relaxing. Your doctor will tell you what the test says and means for you, however if you are a 0 amount of plaque you can breathe a sigh of relief that your heart arteries are not blocked with plaque.

See all the Healthcasts at https://www.biobalancehealth.com/healthcast-blog/ Not all inflammation is damaging, however long-term inflammation can damage healthy tissue, create disease, allergies, and heart disease.  We know that a limited exposure to inflammation is needed to heal injuries, but exposure to inflammation for an extended period causes the changes that occur with autoimmune diseases, it breaks down the collagen of joints, and skin causing joint pain and sagging skin, arteriosclerosis and creates a hyper-allergic state like asthma and eczema. We test for inflammation with a blood test called Highly Sensitive CRP. We try to control inflammation in our patients to help them avoid the consequences of inflammation listed above.  We do this by treating our patients with curcumin, and turmeric two herbal supplements that decrease inflammation.  This is generally not enough to reverse longstanding inflammation.  We use all the ways we know to limit the damage done by inflammation. We also use the following methods of inflammation reversal: Testosterone replacement when low T is found Cox 2 inhibitors, Celebrex prescription Weight loss Treating longstanding infection or injured joints that continue to cause chronic inflammation Treatment with Omega 3 oils, and decrease of the intake of Omega 6 oils  We have reviewed the first four methods of treating inflammation in other healthcasts, but we have become aware of a very effect oil and increasing the amount of Omega 3 oils.  Omega 3 oils in your diet.  We find Omega 3 oil in Marine fish and shellfish, so if a person increases their intake of fish like: Salmon, Halibut, Herring, Sardines, Trout, Oysters, Mackerel, and Tuna. You should eat at least 3 servings of fish a week or you can take Omega 3 oils in the form of DHA and Eicosatetraenoic Acid (EPA) every day as a supplement. Omega 3 oils (DHA and EPA) are used by the body to limit the inflammatory process.  Inflammation can be improved by limiting Omega 6 oils and increasing Omega 3 oil. Omega 6 fatty acids primarily increase inflammation by increasing prostaglandins which have many positive actions in the body, so the goal is to increase Omega 3 oils from marine fish and shellfish, over and above the Omega 6 oils.   By changing the ratio between Omega 3 oils and Omega 6 oils we can prevent or improve the symptoms of Crohns' Disease, inflammatory bowel disease, endometriosis, and autoimmune disease. The healthy amount of Omega 3 oil required to maintain a health, and prevent inflammatory diseases and side effects, is much higher than the amount that most American's ingest every day.  The ideal ratio of Marine Omega 3 oil, to the Omega 6 oils from seeds and nuts is 4:1. Most Americans consume Omega 3: Omega 6 oils in the ratio of 1: 20.  New studies say this puts Americans in a state of inflammation throughout their lives and therefore there is a huge increase in inflammatory based foods. In the past, we thought that oils made from seeds and nuts was healthier than fat and oil from animals and corn, so we thought we were healthier when we cook with oils made from seeds like sunflower oil or peanut oil.  We now find out that that change in our diet has caused us all to be filled with inflammation!  Now we know that Olive oil is the best oil to cook with to avoid using sunflower oil and other nut oils.     Patients who have inflammation on blood work (highly sensitive CRP > 3) require diet changes that changes the fats that they intake, decreasing the nut oils and increasing olive and fish oil. This lifestyle change takes up to up to 18 weeks to reverse inflammation, but the process can be hurried along by taking fish oil with DHA, and EPA. Fish oil has both DHA and EPA in it. Omega 3 oils should be increased for patients with high CRP, to decrease inflammation, and the diseases caused by it. If you have a high CRP this indicates inflammation, then changing your diet to eat more fish oil with DHA and EPA in it for as long as it takes to decrease your symptoms and your HS CRP is required.  It is no wonder we have so many autoimmune diseases in our present patient population…our diet has changed to an unhealthy high level of Omega 6 fats and a low ratio of Omega 3: Omega 6 oils and the outcome is a deluge of autoimmune inflammatory diseases, allergies, and obesity! Omega 3 oils are also vital to the health of your brain and arteries. For a long healthy, productive life, changing your diet is necessary. Sometimes being someone who doesn't follow the crowd pays off, and in this case the crowd is headed off a cliff like lemmings! You are what you eat and suffering from these diseases is the outcome of eating the wrong way!

Grape seed extract found to extend lifespan of old mice Chinese Academy of Sciences and Mayo Clinic, December 7, 2021 A team of researchers affiliated with a host of institutions in China and the U.S. has found that injecting procyanidin C1 (PCC1), a chemical found in grape seed extract, into older mice extended their lifespan. In their paper published in the journal Nature Metabolism, the group describes the link between PCC1 and extended lifespan in mice and the experiments they carried out with the material. The researchers screened 46 plant extracts looking for anti-aging capabilities. They came across PCC1. Initial tests during screening showed it reduced the number of senescent cells in the human prostate. Such cells are known to contribute to aging. Intrigued with their results, the researchers tested it further. They found that at low doses it prevented senescent cells from contributing to inflammation, and at higher doses killed them outright without harming other cells. (NEXT) Gratitude may improve your health University of Michigan and University of California, San Francisco, December 6, 2021 Be thankful for what you have—it might improve your physical and mental health, according to a new global study that uses cell phone data. People who were more grateful had lower blood pressure and heart rate, as well as greater feelings of appreciation toward others. The study found that optimism was also linked to health and mental benefits, such as better sleep quality and more positive expectations and reflections. The findings showed that gratitude and optimism are positive psychological dispositions associated with beneficial outcomes. Gratitude highlighted the positive aspects of the day, whereas optimism minimized the negative aspects of the day, the study indicated. In addition, optimism was a better predictor of sleep quality and stress frequency and intensity than gratitude. (NEXT) Higher physical activity is associated with a better metabolic health risk factor profile in menopausal women University of Jyvaskyla (Finland), November 29, 2021 A study conducted at the University of Jyväskylä shows that menopausal transition is associated with unfavourable changes in metabolic health that may be mitigated with a physically active lifestyle. Especially, physical activity alleviated the increase in systolic blood pressure. In the study, the women were divided into three groups based on the change in their menopausal status during the follow-up period and the groups were compared to each other. Body composition, waist circumference, blood pressure, blood lipids and glucose and physical activity were measured twice during the four-year follow-up time. In all groups, the levels of several metabolic health indicators deteriorated. (NEXT) Could glucosamine and chondroitin support a healthy colon? Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, December 6, 2021 Use of the supplements, which are used for joint health support, was associated with a 23% reduction in the risk of colorectal cancer, according to data from the Nurses' Health Study and Health Professionals Follow-up Study published in the International Journal of Cancer . “Results of this study suggest a potential beneficial effect of glucosamine and chondroitin supplementation on risk of colorectal cancer, and further support the previously observed association between use of these supplements and risk of colorectal cancer in the VITAL study,” wrote the researchers. “Additional study is needed to better understand the association between use of glucosamine and chondroitin and risk of colorectal cancer, and the mechanisms by which these supplements may affect risk of colorectal cancer.” (NEXT) Cannabis impacts sperm counts, motility in two generations of mice Washington State University, December 2, 2021 An intense but short-term exposure to cannabis vapor lowered sperm counts and slowed sperm movement, or motility, not only in the directly exposed male mice but also in their sons. The Washington State University study, published in the journal Toxicological Sciences, builds on other human and animal studies, showing that cannabis can impede male reproductive function. The current study uses more controlled circumstances than human studies, which often have to rely on surveys, and is the first known reproductive study to use vaporized whole cannabis in mice, which is the more common form humans use. (NEXT) Study suggests giving kids too many toys stifles their creativity University of Toledo, December 6, 2021 A team of researchers at the University of Toledo has found that children are more creative when they have fewer toys to play with at one time. In their paper published in the journal Infant Behavior and Development, the group describes their observational study of toddlers at play, what they learned and offer some suggestions for parents. The researchers found that the toddlers playing with four toys engaged in more creative activities than did the toddlers who had 16 toys to choose from. They also found, unsurprisingly, that toddlers with fewer options tended to play with each of the toys available to them for a longer amount of time. Much of that additional time, the researchers noted, was taken up with finding news ways to play with them. Pfizer is the top drug company spender in state elections, even outspending the industry's own lobbying group, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRM). In 2014 Pfizer launched an effort to take over AstraZeneca that was designed not only to swallow a competitor but also to cut its tax bill by locating the headquarters of the combined operation in Britain. When AstraZeneca resisted the controversial move, Pfizer abandoned the bid. Then in November 2015 Pfizer announced a similar deal, worth $160 billion, to merge with Allergan and move the headquarters of the combined company to Ireland. The plan was dropped when the Obama Administration introduced new tax rules. JOHNSON AND JOHNSON In 2004 J&J agreed to pay up to $90 million to settle lawsuits linking the prescription heartburn medication Propulsid to several hundred deaths and many more cases of cardiac irregularity. During 2009 and 2010 the company had to announce a string of recalls of medications, contact lenses and hip implants. The most serious of these was the massive recall of more than 136 million bottles of liquid Tylenol and Motrin for infants and children after batches of the medications were found to be contaminated with metal particles. The company's handling of the matter was so poor that J&J subsidiary McNeil-PPC became the subject of a criminal investigation and later entered a guilty plea and paid a criminal fine of $20 million and forfeited $5 million. It also came out during a Congressional investigation of the matter that in 2008 J&J had engaged in what was labeled a "phantom recall." When faced with Motrin IB caplets that were not dissolving property, McNeil hired contractors to buy up the products in stores while making no announcement to the public. In 2013 J&J reached a deal with plaintiffs lawyers under which it would pay nearly $2.5 billion in compensation to an estimated 8,000 people who had received flawed hip implants. In 2016 two juries awarded a total of $127 million damages to women who sued J&J claiming that their ovarian cancer was caused by the talc in J&J Baby Powder. An award of $417 million was made by a California jury in 2017 and a verdict of more than $4 billion was awarded in Missouri in 2018 (an appeal court later reduced that to $2.1 billion). The New York Times reported in December 2018 that internal company memos from the 1970s discussed the possibility that its talcum powder could contain asbestos. In 1996 J&J reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission under which the company agreed to stop making what the agency called false claims about the failure rates of condoms in the marketing of its K-Y spermicidal lubricant. In 2010 J&J subsidiaries Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical and Ortho-McNeil-Janssen had to pay $81 million to settle charges that they promoted the epilepsy drug Topamax for uses not approved as safe by the Food and Drug Administration The following year, J&J subsidiary Scios Inc. had to pay $85 million to settle similar charges relating to its heart failure drug Natrecor. In 2013 the Justice Department announced that J&J and several of its subsidiaries would pay more than $2.2 billion in criminal fines and civil settlements to resolve allegations that the company had marketed its anti-psychotic medication Risperdal and other drugs for unapproved uses as well as allegations that they had paid kickbacks to physicians and pharmacists to encourage off-label usage In a related Risperdal civil lawsuit, a jury later awarded $8 billion in damages but a Philadelphia judge reduced that by more than 99 percent to $6.8 million. In 2019 J&J and its subsidiary Ethicon, Inc. agreed to pay over $116 million to 41 states and the District of Columbia to settle litigation alleging deceptive marketing of transvaginal surgical mesh devices. In a separate suit brought by California, a state judge ordered the company to pay $344 million. In 2021 J&J reached an agreement with a group of states under which it would pay $5 billion to resolve litigation brought against its subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals alleging improper sale of pain medications, contributing to the national opioid epidemic. In 2001 J&J agreed to pay up to $860 million to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging that the company had misled consumers into prematurely throwing away disposable Acuvue contact lenses. The suits argued that the company drove up sales of its 1-Day Acuvue soft lenses by recommending that consumers use them only once, even though the product was identical to regular Acuvue lenses, which could be worn as long as two weeks. In 2011 J&J agreed to pay a $21.4 million criminal penalty as part of a deferred prosecution agreement with the Justice Department resolving allegations of improper payments by J&J subsidiaries to government officials in Greece, Poland and Romania in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. (NEXT) Weapons trade booms as profits hit record $531bn in 2020 Swedish think tank says world's 100 biggest arms firms were largely shielded from the effect of the pandemic. AL JAZEERA. 6 Dec 2021 Sales of weapons and military services by the world's 100 biggest arms companies reached a record $531bn in 2020, an increase of 1.3 per cent in real terms compared with the previous year, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). The Swedish think tank said 2020 marked the sixth consecutive year of sales growth by the top 100 firms, and came even as the global economy shrank. Overall sales were 17 percent higher than in 2015 when it first included data on Chinese firms. “The industry giants were largely shielded by sustained government demand for military goods and services,” Alexandra Marksteiner, researcher with the SIPRI Military Expenditure and Arms Production Programme, said in a statement on Monday. “In much of the world, military spending grew and some governments even accelerated payments to the arms industry in order to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 crisis.” Firms in the United States continue to dominate the industry, with total sales of $285bn from 41 companies accounting for about 54 percent of all arms sales among the 100 biggest companies. The top five companies in the ranking since 2018 have all been based in the US, SIPRI said. Arms sales from the top Chinese firms amounted to an estimated $66.8bn in 2020, 1.5 percent more than in 2019. Chinese firms accounted for 13 percent of the Top 100 arms sales' total, ahead of the United Kingdom, which had the third-largest share. “In recent years, Chinese arms companies have benefited from the country's military modernization programmes and focus on military-civil fusion,” said Nan Tian, SIPRI senior researcher. “They have become some of the most advanced military technology producers in the world.” The seven UK companies recorded arms sales of $37.5bn in 2020, up by 6.2 percent compared with 2019. Arms sales by BAE Systems – the sole European firm in the top 10 – increased by 6.6 percent to $24bn. (NEXT) You'd Better Watch Out: The Surveillance State Has a Naughty List, and You're On It John W. Whitehead & Nisha Whitehead, December 7, 2021 No longer does the all-knowing, all-seeing, jolly Old St. Nick need to rely on antiquated elves on shelves and other seasonal snitches in order to know when you're sleeping or awake, and if you've been naughty or nice. Thanks to the government's almost limitless powers made possible by a domestic army of techno-tyrants, fusion centers and Peeping Toms, Santa can get real-time reports on who's been good or bad this year. This creepy new era of government/corporate spying—in which we're being listened to, watched, tracked, followed, mapped, bought, sold and targeted—makes the NSA's rudimentary phone and metadata surveillance appear almost antiquated in comparison. Tracking you based on your health status. In the age of COVID-19, digital health passports are gaining traction as gatekeepers of a sort, restricting access to travel, entertainment, etc., based on one's vaccine status. Whether or not one has a vaccine passport, however, individuals may still have to prove themselves “healthy” enough to be part of society. For instance, in the wake of Supreme Court rulings that paved the way for police to use drug-sniffing dogs as “search warrants on leashes,” government agencies are preparing to use virus-detecting canine squads to carry out mass screenings to detect individuals who may have COVID-19. Researchers claim the COVID-sniffing dogs have a 95% success rate of identifying individuals with the virus (except when they're hungry, tired or distracted). These dogs are also being to trained to ferret out individuals suffering from other health ailments such as cancer. Tracking you based on your face: Facial recognition software aims to create a society in which every individual who steps out into public is tracked and recorded as they go about their daily business. Coupled with surveillance cameras that blanket the country, facial recognition technology allows the government and its corporate partners to identify and track someone's movements in real-time. One particularly controversial software program created by Clearview AI has been used by police, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security to collect photos on social media sitesfor inclusion in a massive facial recognition database. Similarly, biometric software, which relies on one's unique identifiers (fingerprints, irises, voice prints), is becoming the standard for navigating security lines, as well as bypassing digital locks and gaining access to phones, computers, office buildings, etc. In fact, greater numbers of travelers are opting into programs that rely on their biometrics in order to avoid long waits at airport security. Scientists are also developing lasers that can identify and surveil individuals based on their heartbeats, scent and microbiome. Tracking you based on your behavior: Rapid advances in behavioral surveillance are not only making it possible for individuals to be monitored and tracked based on their patterns of movement or behavior, including gait recognition (the way one walks), but have given rise to whole industries that revolve around predicting one's behavior based on data and surveillance patterns and are also shaping the behaviors of whole populations. One smart “anti-riot” surveillance system purports to predict mass riots and unauthorized public events by using artificial intelligence to analyze social media, news sources, surveillance video feeds and public transportation data. Tracking you based on your spending and consumer activities: With every smartphone we buy, every GPS device we install, every Twitter, Facebook, and Google account we open, every frequent buyer card we use for purchases—whether at the grocer's, the yogurt shop, the airlines or the department store—and every credit and debit card we use to pay for our transactions, we're helping Corporate America build a dossier for its government counterparts on who we know, what we think, how we spend our money, and how we spend our time. Consumer surveillance, by which your activities and data in the physical and online realms are tracked and shared with advertisers, has become big business, a $300 billion industry that routinely harvests your data for profit. Corporations such as Target have not only been tracking and assessing the behavior of their customers, particularly their purchasing patterns, for years, but the retailer has also funded major surveillance in cities across the country and developed behavioral surveillance algorithms that can determine whether someone's mannerisms might fit the profile of a thief. Tracking you based on your public activities: Private corporations in conjunction with police agencies throughout the country have created a web of surveillance that encompasses all major cities in order to monitor large groups of people seamlessly, as in the case of protests and rallies. They are also engaging in extensive online surveillance, looking for any hints of “large public events, social unrest, gang communications, and criminally predicated individuals.” Defense contractors have been at the forefront of this lucrative market. Fusion centers, $330 million-a-year, information-sharing hubs for federal, state and law enforcement agencies, monitor and report such “suspicious” behavior as people buying pallets of bottled water, photographing government buildings, and applying for a pilot's license as “suspicious activity.” Tracking you based on your social media activities: Every move you make, especially on social media, is monitored, mined for data, crunched, and tabulated in order to form a picture of who you are, what makes you tick, and how best to control you when and if it becomes necessary to bring you in line. As The Intercept reported, the FBI, CIA, NSA and other government agencies are increasingly investing in and relying on corporate surveillance technologies that can mine constitutionally protected speech on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in order to identify potential extremists and predict who might engage in future acts of anti-government behavior. This obsession with social media as a form of surveillance will have some frightening consequences in coming years. As Helen A.S. Popkin, writing for NBC News, observed, “We may very well face a future where algorithms bust people en masse for referencing illegal ‘Game of Thrones' downloads… the new software has the potential to roll, Terminator-style, targeting every social media user with a shameful confession or questionable sense of humor.” Tracking you based on your phone and online activities: Cell phones have become de facto snitches, offering up a steady stream of digital location data on users' movements and travels. Police have used cell-site simulators to carry out mass surveillance of protests without the need for a warrant. Moreover, federal agents can now employ a number of hacking methods in order to gain access to your computer activities and “see” whatever you're seeing on your monitor. Malicious hacking software can also be used to remotely activate cameras and microphones, offering another means of glimpsing into the personal business of a target. Tracking you based on your social network: Not content to merely spy on individuals through their online activity, government agencies are now using surveillance technology to track one's social network, the people you might connect with by phone, text message, email or through social message, in order to ferret out possible criminals. An FBI document obtained by Rolling Stone speaks to the ease with which agents are able to access address book data from Facebook's WhatsApp and Apple's iMessage services from the accounts of targeted individuals and individuals not under investigation who might have a targeted individual within their network. What this creates is a “guilt by association” society in which we are all as guilty as the most culpable person in our address book. Tracking you based on your car: License plate readers are mass surveillance tools that can photograph over 1,800 license tag numbers per minute, take a picture of every passing license tag number and store the tag number and the date, time, and location of the picture in a searchable database, then share the data with law enforcement, fusion centers and private companies to track the movements of persons in their cars. With tens of thousands of these license plate readers now in operation throughout the country, affixed to overpasses, cop cars and throughout business sectors and residential neighborhoods, it allows police to track vehicles and run the plates through law enforcement databases for abducted children, stolen cars, missing people and wanted fugitives. Of course, the technology is not infallible: there have been numerous incidents in which police have mistakenly relied on license plate data to capture out suspects only to end up detaining innocent people at gunpoint. Tracking you based on your mail: Just about every branch of the government—from the Postal Service to the Treasury Department and every agency in between—now has its own surveillance sector, authorized to spy on the American people. For instance, the U.S. Postal Service, which has been photographing the exterior of every piece of paper mail for the past 20 years, is also spying on Americans' texts, emails and social media posts. Headed up by the Postal Service's law enforcement division, the Internet Covert Operations Program (iCOP) is reportedly using facial recognition technology, combined with fake online identities, to ferret out potential troublemakers with “inflammatory” posts. The agency claims the online surveillance, which falls outside its conventional job scope of processing and delivering paper mail, is necessary to help postal workers avoid “potentially volatile situations.” Fusion centers. Smart devices. Behavioral threat assessments. Terror watch lists. Facial recognition. Snitch tip lines. Biometric scanners. Pre-crime. DNA databases. Data mining. Precognitive technology. Contact tracing apps. What these add up to is a world in which, on any given day, the average person is now monitored, surveilled, spied on and tracked in more than 20 different ways by both government and corporate eyes and ears. Big Tech wedded to Big Government has become Big Brother. Every second of every day, the American people are being spied on by a vast network of digital Peeping Toms, electronic eavesdroppers and robotic snoops. In an age of overcriminalization, mass surveillance, and an appalling lack of protections for our privacy rights, we can all be considered guilty of some transgression or other. So you'd better watch out—you'd better not pout—you'd better not cry—‘cos I'm telling you why: this Christmas, it's the Surveillance State that's coming to town, and you're already on its naughty list. (NEXT) Vitamin D: Government Should Have Promoted to Combat Pandemic Joel S. Hirschhorn, December 06, 2021 There seems to be an endless refusal by the public health establishment to fight the pandemic with the best science-based tools.  Instead, they keep pushing vaccines. Great German research provides unequivocal medical evidence that the government should be strongly advocating two actions: 1. Take vitamin D supplements and 2. Have your blood tested for vitamin D. The title for this October 2021 journal article says it all: “COVID-19 Mortality Risk Correlates Inversely with Vitamin D3 Status, and a Mortality Rate Close to Zero Could Theoretically Be Achieved at 50 ng/mL 25(OH)D3: Results of a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.”  [25(OH)D3 refers to metabolite of the vitamin in blood] In other words, there is clear evidence that the lower your vitamin D level the greater your risk of dying from COVID infection.  Moreover, the data clearly show that you need a blood level of at least 50 ng/mL. Odds are, however, that very, very few people have been tested for their vitamin D level.  This is a situation where waiting for testing is not the prudent approach.  Vitamin D pills are pretty cheap and it is perfectly safe to take a healthy daily dose to maintain a good immune system.  I take 4,000 IUs twice daily. Here are a number of highlights from this research and other sources; the discussion is aimed at informing people with information not provided by Big Media, Big Government and Big Pharma. Vitamin D is an accurate predictor of COVID infection.  Its deficiency is just as significant, and perhaps more so, than more commonly discussed underlying medical conditions, including obesity. To be clear, there is a level of vitamin D for an effective strategy at the personal and population level to prevent or mitigate new surges and outbreaks of COVID that are related to reduced vaccine effectiveness and new variants. In the German study, fifteen other studies were cited that showed low vitamin D levels were related to cases of severe COVID infection, and seven studies that found positive results from treating ill patients with the vitamin. The German study noted: “The finding that most SARS-CoV-2 patients admitted to hospitals have vitamin D3 blood levels that are too low is unquestioned even by opponents of vitamin D supplementation.” The German study “followed 1,601 hospitalized patients, 784 who had their vitamin D levels measured within a day after admission and 817 whose vitamin D levels were known before infection.  And the researchers also analyzed the long-term average vitamin D3 levels documented for 19 countries.  The observed median vitamin D value over all collected study cohorts was 23.2 ng/mL, which is clearly too low to work effectively against COVID.” Why does this vitamin work so well?  The German study explained: A main cause of a severe reaction from COVID results from a “cytokine storm.” This refers to the body's immune system releasing too many toxic cytokines as part of the inflammatory response to the virus.  Vitamin D is a main regulator of those cells.  A low level of the vitamin means a greater risk for a cytokine storm.  This is especially pertinent for lung problems from COVID. Other studies On a par with the German study was an important US medical article from May 2021: Vitamin D and Its Potential Benefit for the COVID-19 Pandemic.  It noted: “Experimental studies have shown that vitamin D exerts several actions that are thought to be protective against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infectivity and severity.  … There are a growing number of data connecting COVID-19 infectivity and severity with vitamin D status, suggesting a potential benefit of vitamin D supplementation for primary prevention or as an adjunctive treatment of COVID-19.  … there is no downside to increasing vitamin D intake and having sensible sunlight exposure to maintain serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D at a level of least 30 ng/mL and preferably 40 to 60 ng/mL to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection and its severity.” This confirms the German study and its finding of a critical vitamin level of 50 ng/mL. Daniel Horowitz has made this correct observation about vitamin D supplementation: “An endless stream of academic research demonstrates that not only would such an approach have worked much better than the vaccines, but rather than coming with sundry known and unknown negative side effects.“ There are now 142 studies vouching for the near-perfect correlation between higher vitamin D levels and better outcomes in COVID patients. From Israel came work that showed 25% of hospitalized COVID patients with vitamin D deficiency died compared to just 3% among those without a deficiency.  And those with a deficiency were 14 times more likely to end up with a severe or critical condition. Also from Israel, data on 1,176 patients with COVID infection admitted to the Galilee Medical Center, 253 had vitamin D levels on record and half were vitamin D-deficient.  This was the conclusion: “Among hospitalized COVID-19 patients, pre-infection deficiency of vitamin D was associated with increased disease severity and mortality.” Several studies have come from the University of Chicago.  One found that a vitamin D deficiency (less than 20 ng/ml) may raise the risk of testing positive for COVID-19, actually a 7.2% chance of testing positive for the virus.  And that more than 80% of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were vitamin D deficient.  And Black individuals who had levels of 30 to 40 ng/ml had a 2.64 times higher risk of testing positive for COVID-19 than people with levels of 40 ng/ml or greater. On the good news side is a new study from Turkish researchers.  They focused on getting people's levels over 30 ng/mL with supplements.  At that level there was success compared to people without supplementation.  This was true even if they had comorbidities.  They were able to achieve that blood level within two weeks.  Those with no comorbidities and no vitamin D treatment had 1.9-fold increased risk of having hospitalization longer than 8 days compared with cases with both comorbidities and vitamin D treatment. (NEXT) The explosion of Covid PTSD cases is a mental health crisis in the making The Guardian, 7 Dec 2021 When the Covid-19 pandemic began, people working in the trauma field knew the psychological toll would be colossal. In the spring of 2020, I began interviewing professionals about the mental health fallout of the pandemic, specifically its impact on frontline medical staff. During the first wave, two in every five intensive care staff in England reported symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. That work continued for almost a year, during which time a second wave hit and the initial traumas were exacerbated. But it wasn't only frontline workers who were experiencing trauma symptoms: Covid has posed perhaps the biggest threat to mental health in England since the second world war. Now, at the tail end of 2021, the pandemic is still not over. The NHS forecasts that nationally, there will be 230,000 new cases of PTSD as a result of Covid-19. It is not only social care and medical staff who will be affected. Those who lost loved ones, and those who have been very ill or hospitalised (35% of Covid-19 patients who were put on a ventilator go on to experience extensive symptoms of PTSD) may also suffer. Then there are those living with the effects of domestic and sexual abuse, which may have worsened due to lockdown, and children and young people whose lives changed immeasurably due to our shift to a state of emergency. I imagine that some women whose birthing experiences were marked by the pandemic will also be experiencing symptoms. The explosion of post-traumatic stress disorder is a medical emergency, and a further strain on our creaking services. Without proper action and investment, it is a national mental health crisis in the making.

HOUR 2 Arthritis- How to Supplement for Symptom Relief -- Carolyn Dean MD ND  According to RheumatoidArthritis.net, arthritis affects more than 46 million people resulting in disability for 19 million. Arthritis causes more disability than heart disease, diabetes, and back or spine problems. Osteoarthritis (prevalence ~26.9 million), gout (prevalence ~6.1 million), rheumatoid arthritis (prevalence ~1.3 million) in the US. Note: For example, a person who is newly diagnosed with arthritis is an incident case, whereas a person living with arthritis for 10 years is a prevalent case.  Arthritis means inflammation of the joints. It is a very complex and multifaceted disease. A diagnosis of arthritis is made by analyzing X-rays, blood tests, and findings on a clinical examination. The most common finding is wear and tear on the joints and loss of the supporting padding around and between joints.   You can develop joint symptoms due to toxicity from processed foods, sugar, gluten, alcohol, coffee, or food to which you are allergic. These toxins can gather in vulnerable, overworked joints or in areas where you have suffered an injury. The only way to find out if these substances are causing problems is to eliminate them from your diet and see if your joints feel better. An overlooked cause is a subclinical infection that targets the joints. Chinese Medicine addresses this issue and says the Divergent Meridians will direct an internal infection toward the joints to protect the internal organs.  The medical treatment of arthritis merely suppresses pain and inflammation with stronger and stronger prescription medication without understanding that those drugs will cause more inflammation as they build toxicity and drain the body of magnesium and other minerals.   Historically, the first drug used to treat arthritis and hailed as a miracle cure was cortisone. It wasn't long before the horrible side effects of bleeding ulcers, suppression of adrenal gland function and thinning bones turned the miracle into a disaster. Suppression of the adrenal glands begins in as little as 7 days on drugs like prednisone.  A series of NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) that claimed to be safer than cortisone were also associated with bleeding ulcers. A newer generation of NSAIDs – Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra – came under extreme fire in 2005 when Vioxx was shown to cause about 140,000 heart attacks – many fatal. I say that the reason these drugs cause heart side effects is because they deplete the body of magnesium. Ironically, magnesium is the best anti-inflammatory agent you can take for arthritis. Celebrex contains fluoride molecules that can account for its higher rate of heart disease side effects. Fluoride binds magnesium making it unavailable to the body. The resulting MgF2 compound is brittle and deposits in bone, joints, cartilage and tendons creating or increasing symptoms of arthritis. Now we have an absolute epidemic of opioid addiction from the flagrant use of this highly addictive drug. Add to that the addition of the poisonous drug fentanyl to street drug opioids and you have killer combination.  Menopausal women often develop arthritic symptoms. Does cessation of the monthly period, which serves to rid the body of toxins, mean that, instead, the toxins are building up in the joints? The same might be said for iron build-up and high levels of hemoglobin; some researchers believe that women escape heart disease because their blood is not as high in iron and as thick as men's blood. Because women lose blood every month, there is less strain on the heart. Donating blood at the local blood bank can be a sure way to thin out your blood and also stimulate the production of a fresh crop of red blood cells. However, don't forget that proper hydration and a good diet free of sugar and processed foods and drinking plenty of pure water can also keep the blood from sludging and clumping.  What if one of the causes of arthritis is a mineral deficiency but most doctors, who know nothing about recommending minerals to their patients, will never be able to help soothe or relieve arthritis symptoms in a safe, natural way?  Our Completement Formulas help to soothe the symptoms of arthritis in several ways: they can alleviate symptoms caused by mineral and vitamin deficiencies, build cartilage, treat pain and inflammation, and help you avoid the potentially life-threatening side effects of anti-inflammatory medications.  Minerals do their best work inside cells. They pull water in after them to assist in thousands of metabolic processes. If you are deficient in minerals, water has nowhere to go and ends up in tissue spaces causing painful swelling. If you are deficient in minerals you will also have more auto-immune disease, more inflammation, more pain, and more swelling.  My recommendations include:  ReMag is a fully absorbed, bioavailable, non-laxative magnesium. Dosage: ½-1 tsp twice per day. This mineral drives 1,000 enzyme systems in the body. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and confers the proper resiliency to bones and joints.   ReMyte - is a fully absorbed, bioavailable, multiple mineral that contains 12 complementary minerals many of which will help alleviate the symptoms of osteoarthritis including Magnesium, Boron, Calcium, Zinc, Manganese, Copper  ReAline - sulfur, which promotes the health of ligaments, cartilage, collagen, and tendons can be accessed in ReAline through the two sulfur amino acids, l-methionine, and l-taurine. Methionine and 4 of the B vitamins in ReAline provide methyl groups to the liver's detoxification pathways.  Pico Silver -   As I mentioned earlier, Chinese Medicine defines a type of arthritis that is caused by internal infections being directed at the joints – in an effort to protect the internal organs. Thus Pico Silver can play a major role in helping support the immune system against subclinical infections.  Whole C ReSet is a food-based, organic Vitamin C Complex and one of our Completement Formulas. Vitamin C assists the body in many ways. It is a cofactor in 8 enzyme processes in the body. It assists the growth, maintenance, and repair of skin, blood vessels, bones, and teeth. It is a powerful antioxidant, essential for wound healing, a strong immune system, helps eliminate bruising, strengthens the adrenals, and helps absorb iron.   Wondering if this all works? Consider Gracie's story:  “My 73-year old friend, Grace, who has arthritis, was diagnosed with trigger finger and she was given a cortisone shot but it only lasted 4 weeks. Arthritis gives her excruciating pain and she can't use her hands till the afternoon and her hands are so swollen that she can't even see between her fingers. So I introduced her to ReMag and so far she is sleeping much better. I told her to give it time cause it has been only 3 weeks. Then I told her about ReMyte. She received the ReMyte on Friday and started taking it and called me today, which is 2 days later and told me her pain and swelling subsided quite a bit and for the first time in a long while she can open and close her fingers. I'm so excited for her. The doctors said they could only help her with cortisone shots or surgery and she held off on the surgery because they couldn't guarantee it would work.”  Tonight we'll be talking with Dr. Carolyn Dean about Arthritis: How to Supplement for Symptom Relief along with a wide range of health topics and safe solutions. HOUR 1 Arthritis- How to Supplement for Symptom Relief -- Carolyn Dean MD ND  According to RheumatoidArthritis.net, arthritis affects more than 46 million people resulting in disability for 19 million. SURVIVING HEALTHCARE
Chapter 2: HORMONE SECRETS--LEARN A FEW DRUG NAMES

SURVIVING HEALTHCARE

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 18, 2021 6:44

To understand this book, you only need to remember a few bio-identical hormone names—estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, and thyroids, which include porcine, T4, and T3. If you read outside sources, you must learn others. Return to this reference chapter as needed. Hormones work by attaching to receptor molecules in the human body, and since the natural ones are identical or nearly identical to those made by our glands, they fit like the real thing. Manufactured medicines are foreign substances never found in the body's ecosystem that are made from animals or chemicals. These do not match as closely as the bio-identicals, do not work as well, and have side effects. They are still useful in a few circumstances but should never be taken long-term. I call them “counterfeit” or “fake” to help you sort out the issues. For example, progesterone is bio-identical. In contrast, Provera is a synthetic progesterone imitation. It raises the chances of migraines, weight gain, heart disease, breast cancer, depression, and irregular bleeding. Pregnant women taking it get more miscarriages and their babies have more congenital disabilities. Drugmakers invent sexy copyrighted brand names for their profitable patented compounds. This allows patients to harass doctors by saying, “I saw an ad for…” Pharma also creates chemical names that are hard to pronounce and remember. The brand Celebrex, for example, is the chemical celecoxib—try saying that one. The advantage for the manufacturer is that when medications go off-patent and are sold as generics, the chemical is more difficult to recall than the recognizable brand. The drugmakers use the names to confuse. Progestin, progestogen, and Provera, the artificial ones, sound like natural progesterone. And Premarin, the horse-urine estrogen (this name was from PRegnant MAre's uRINe), gets mixed up with Provera, the synthetic progesterone. These strategies work, so the doctors are just as bewildered as you are:✪ Many journal articles make no distinction between bio-identical progesterone and progestins/progestogens such as Provera. They call both of these progesterone, which implies there is little difference. ✪ Likewise, medical articles call many related substances estrogens, which is accurate but fools both doctors and patients into thinking that they are all alike. Technically, estrogens include bio-identical estradiol, the counterfeits such as Premarin, and the other relatively weak human estrogens, estrone and estriol. These last two are bio-identical but are almost inactive and cause some health issues. ✪ Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) sometimes refers to treatment with bio-identicals and sometimes to treatment with the counterfeits!Support the show (https://paypal.me/dryohoauthor?locale.x=en_US)

See all the Healthcast at https://www.biobalancehealth.com/healthcast-blog/ Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals. Fibromyalgia is a disease that presents with severe fatigue, poor quality of life, and pain and sensitivity in the muscles (not joints) that make a patient so tender that they can't stand to be touched.  Main signs and symptoms fatigue-severe lack of energy. trouble sleeping. depression or anxiety. memory problems and trouble concentrating (sometimes called “fibro fog”)   muscle twitches or cramps. numbness or tingling in the hands and feet. Itching and burning of the skin 40-70 % of people with Fibromyalgia also have GI symptoms like irritable bowel, bloating gas and nausea that comes and goes.  70% of Fibromyalgia patients have tension and migraine headaches. Many of these  symptoms overlap with several other illnesses such as Chronic Fatigue ( a low cortisol condition) that can follow a viral illness, as well as some autoimmune diseases, and the symptoms of  low testosterone and low growth hormone,  Like autoimmune diseases, fibromyalgia occurs in women more than men, and women over 40 more than younger women. When diagnosing Fibromyalgia, we must rule out autoimmune diseases, Lyme disease, and other chronic viral infections, and diseases such as depression.  Previously we just ruled out other diseases and put our fibromyalgia patients on an antidepressant for both the depression symptoms and the to relieve the pain.  Fibromyalgia is a disease of low serotonin levels, so the antidepressant isn't just for the mood portion of the disease but also to relieve pain. Because we now know more about Fibromyalgia, we have found that there is usually an incident that caused severe chronic stress that de-regulated the hormones and neurotransmitters in the patient's brain that later caused her to have fibromyalgia at a later date. Chronic stress, like being abandoned as a child, or being abused at any age, severe illness including lyme disease, mononucleosis, PTSD, or any other lifestyle choice like drug use, or practicing obstetrics or ER medicine, that stresses the body. The result of this stress results in chronic elevated cortisol and adrenaline. This wears out the brain and the adrenal gland and the patient can't respond to stress of any kind anymore.  Even being stroked gently feels like pain. In The Journal of International Immunopharmacology, 2 March 2015, the article, A novel use for Testosterone to treat central sensitization of chronic pain in fibromyalgia patients, discusses the association of low T and the incidence of Fibromyalgia.  Low estradiol, low testosterone and low GH all occur when a patient has FBM.  When these hormones are brought back to normal by replacing them, the symptoms go away!  I have seen this many times and sleep, pain and pain all become normal as long as we can replace T and E2, an stimulate GH with somatotropin. Other treatments include anti-inflammatory medications like Celebrex or NSAIDS, SSRIs, Pregabalin, sometimes low dose steroids, Testosterone, GH stimulation in both sexes plus Estradiol in women.  These are the treatments we employ when treating Fibromyalgia, and we watch all the symptoms of fibromyalgia go away when we start with T, E2, oral pregnenolone and GH stimulation.  After that, we use the other, non-medical methods of treating Fibromyalgia. The non-medical methods include: Set sleep hours at least 8 hours a night every night Dark sleeping environment Mediterranean low carb diet avoiding preservatives and chemicals in your food. Progressive exercise Nutritional supplementation Meditation and relaxation exercises   Nutritional Supplementation with: Vitamin D3, K2 and zinc piccolate Endodren adrenal supplement q am Lipo C vitamin Fish oil and flaxseed oil Methyl B vitamin Magnesium Glycinate 40 mg BID L arginine GABA SamE 400mg three times a day Cucumin 800 mg three times a day All of these are treatments for FB but the basis of treatment and the most effective is Bio-identical T pellets and E2 pellets + injectable sq sermorelin/ CJC to stimulate growth hormone. Everything else is in addition to the hormone replacement. The reason no one seems to have an answer for  those of you who have FB  “lies in the combination of knowledge  (needed to diagnose and treat FB) from diverse fields including reproductive endocrinology related to the gonadal steroid hormones (estradiol, testosterone), nociception, neuro-endocrinology and reproductive immunology.” HD White, TD Robinson, International Immunopharmacology 27 (2015) 244-248. It is for the very same reason that mainstream medicine has not yet acknowledged the amazing power of testosterone in the non-oral subcutaneous delivery system.  It crosses the fields of OBGYN, Urology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Neurology, Psychiatry and immunology to see the many ways in which the replacement of Bio-identical T and E2 can treat many illnesses that we are currently using dangerous and ineffective drugs for.  Testosterone loss is the first shoe to drop in the loss of homeostasis as we age,  and the advent of multiple diseases that we still don't know how to treat because we are too segmented in our specialties….no experts read the research of  another specialty  which is the arrogance of the specialists.. in the end we all lose because we only read the papers of what we already know!  Until we humble ourselves to read ALL research about diseases we don't know how to treat, we will never get the proper treatment for our patients.  This is my mission, and my goal…but no one in the many fields that are necessary to understand the many uses of testosterone and estradiol and how to safely treat our patients, so they NO LONGER have the diseases triggered by loss of the sex hormones.

Hello, welcome to this episode of The Ankylosing Spondylitis Podcast. I hope this show finds everybody doing fantastic. I want to thank those people that went over to spondypodcast.com and signed up for the newsletter, I really appreciate that it's great to see the numbers growing. And, you know, I look forward to communicating with everybody through the newsletter and hearing from you on the Contact link.  So, on today's show, one of the things that you know, I've really thought about lately is not so much that it's affecting me but that I've seen it talked about a lot online is the pain that comes along with ankylosing spondylitis and the damage that it can do to you emotionally. So I wanted to look at pain and your emotions today and I happen to find a really neat article on that titled Pain and your Emotions on ankylosingspondylitis.net if you have not gone out to Ankylosing spondylitis.com That, I encourage you to do that. It's a fantastic website filled with a lot of really, really good articles about Ankylosing Spondylitis and all the ramifications that it does and how it affects your life by not only the editorial team, but also by a number of writers with AS. So I encourage you to head over to ankylosingspondylitis.net.  As we all know, Ankylosing Spondylitis is a chronic type of arthritis. It's also as you've heard, in the last few episodes, we refer to it as Axial Spindyloarthritis, which is kind of a little more inclusive term. It is characterized by pain in your hips, your spine, rib cage, neck, really anywhere, it can affect you. We're all affected differently. Mine started in my hips, my si joints, progressed to the actual hip socket damage, and then worked its way up at spine for me So it's been a unique journey on my end. But I know other people have had completely different experiences. And you know, that's the great thing about the community is you can learn from others to help understand what your body is going through. So anyway, it's caused by excess inflammation in the joints. We know that people with ankylosing spondylitis can experience limitations in their ability to move because of the pain and inflammation. One thing we hear over and over is get up and move, you've got to get up a movement. And I agree with that, there are some with ankylosing spondylitis like myself, who after multiple hip replacements moving is not as easy I walk with a cane, and in many spots, I use crutches only because I've been having a pretty serious issues with my hips lately. So we're all different. I encourage you to do as much exercise in any given day as you can, because that movement is really going to help to keep you in the long run, feeling better. And then lastly, over time, your spine can fuse. This is what's called bamboo spine. Its kind of where the name of the disease started. And you can see somebody with it very distinctly because they'll generally be hunched over. You know, it's not hard to pick out chronic pain and Ankylosing Spondylitis.  So, as Ankylosing Spondylitis progresses, you know, it progresses differently in everybody. Where I had a heavy attack in my sacroiliac joints and my hips when I was younger, others have it in their back, knees, ankles, wherever but one of the most common symptoms that accompanies the disease is the overall just chronic pain. Many AS patients are able to successfully manage their pain using over the counter medications and prescription pain medications. You know, the Nsaids, the heavy strength nsaids, the maloxicam, the Celebrex is whatever your body handles the best. I was on Celebrex for geez, I don't know 17-18 years, something like that worked really well for me. But I now have some kidney damage because I also took other stuff on top of it that I wasn't supposed to, to help. And well, I lost some kidney function, so that can be common for folks. Some people, however, experience what's called breakthrough pain that can feel intense... Support this podcast

Wellness isn’t just about eating right or making time for exercise, it’s a cross-collaboration between physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. In fact, 71% of millennials abide by the belief that mental and physical health are intertwined, encompassing various aspects of emotional, environmental and relational health. As millennials work harder to take care of themselves in greater ways, they’re effectively blurring the lines between reactive and preventative care. The ultimate millennial self-care goal is to have the solutions they need for holistic health with room to adjust for personal interpretation of their own needs and desires. one in five millennials reported being unable to afford routine health care expenses and 47% said they had to cut corners on health care because of the cost. This points to a major issue facing both consumers and health brands: While millennials are doing their best to prioritize their health and wellbeing, they struggle with the lack of transparency in health costs. Although holistically minded overall, millennials’ view of health remains inconsistent as a result. This creates tension for health care brands, including health insurance carriers, as millennials’ age out of their parents’ plans and enter the marketplace. I was pleasantly surprised to learn about some recent research on the positive effects of black cumin seed oil and Hashimoto’s disease. I’m always searching for compounds that can help my patients with Hashimoto’s disease and black cumin seed oil looks like a real winner.  In this article I break down two promising studies on black cumin seed oil and how it can help autoimmune thyroiditis. What is Black Cumin Seed? Black cumin seed is also known as Nigella sativa which is a medicinal plant and the seeds have been used in traditional and folk medicine in the Middle East for centuries. Black cumin seeds are used mainly in Iranian, Pakistani and Northern Indian cuisines. Black cumin seeds contain compounds that have the following properties: Anti-inflammatory Antioxidant Immune balancing Enhanced blood sugar metabolism thus improving insulin resistance Anti-cancer Kidney protective Decreases pain (Analgesic) Liver protective Bronchodilator Antihistamine Antimicrobial against bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi Breaks down biofilms and prevents biofilm formation Gastroprotective Cholesterol-lowering Cardioprotective Hypoglycemic Hypotensive Improves memory Supports a healthy microbiome Reduces lung inflammation Specific chronic diseases that black cumin seed has been shown to improve include: Hashimoto’s thyroiditis Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes High cholesterol Coronary artery disease High blood pressure Gastritis Obesity Polycystic ovarian syndrome Urinary tract disorders Asthma Encephalomyelitis Neurodegenerative disorders Hair loss (alopecia) Eczema Bronchitis Rheumatism Rheumatoid arthritis Indigestion Loss of appetite Diarrhea Male infertility Pain Convulsions Depression Allergies What did the latest research show on Hashimoto’s disease? 40 patients were split into two groups of 20 receiving black cumin seed and 20 receiving a placebo. 2 grams a day of black cumin seed powder was taken for 8 weeks. What improved at the end of the 8 week study period in those who took black cumin seed? Body Mass Index (BMI) improved Waist circumference improved Hip circumference improved TSH decreased indicating improved thyroid function T3 increased which is the most active form of thyroid hormone Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPO) decreased None of the above measurements improved in the placebo group who just took a starch pill. This clearly indicates the black cumin seed had a profound effect on weight loss, metabolism, thyroid function and improvement in the Hashimoto’s antibody thyroid peroxidase (TPO). What is it that resulted in such excellent improvements? Black cumin seeds contain a compound called thymoquinone that has all of these beneficial properties. Thymoquinone has been heavily studied and one of its mechanisms is suppression of the COX-2 enzyme resulting in reduced inflammation. COX-2 inhibitors like Celebrex are popular drugs for inflammatory conditions but black cumin seed has similar benefits without the side effects. Thymoquinone also has also been shown in previous research to improve thyroid function. Not only has it been shown to increase T3 but it actually can repair thyroid tissue that has been damaged by your immune system. Black cumin seeds also contain thymohydroquinone and thymol which also have many of the same benefits. Is there more research on black cumin seed oil and Hashimoto's disease? Another exciting paper was just published which looked specifically at black cumin seeds and their effect on lipids, glucose metabolism, and anthropometric variables including body weight and body mass index (BMI). The authors start by discussing the connection between hypothyroidism and lipids such as cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL. High cholesterol levels are a hallmark sign of hypothyroidism which is interesting because some patients are prescribed cholesterol-lowering medication without a proper thyroid evaluation.

Symptoms started when I was around 10 years old and I was diagnosed at 18. I was on Arthrotec, Celebrex and other NSaids as well as Sulphasalazine on and off for years. I resisted taking medication and was very eager to try out many different ways to reduce inflammation naturally. It wasn’t until I meet Ralph Ruiz, Sky Denton and coached with Peter Winslow that I realized I had been treating the symptoms and not the cause. All these guys determined the cause of their disease and addressed it through the mind body connection and are now living normal lives. This inspired me to do the same. The effect begins within one week of starting the medication and persists for as long as it's taken. Approximately 30,000 – 50,000 people die from NSAID usage in the U.S. each year.  Today, everyone knows somebody suffering from serious pain. The dirty secret is that many of these people have had heart attacks caused by the very pain medications they thought were helping them. With heart attacks being the number one cause of death in the U.S., and arthritis meds being some of the most frequently prescribed, the new study is  one of the most important health breakthroughs of the year. It's already the weekend and that means it's time for our HouseCall shows! Here are this weekend's community questions! Erin: Hi Dr. Cabral, I can't thank you and Julia enough for the positive influence you are having on our family and our health. Your health coach Julia has been amazing in guiding us, answering our questions and encouraging us on our path to health. My husband and I are both on our healing journeys and it is all thanks to you and your team! We listen to your podcast every day and talk about you and your teachings to all our friends and family. My question for you today is concerning my mother. She is 73 years old and has suffered with Polymyalgia Rheumatica for many years. She has been taking prednisone and the side affects are debilitating, always hungry, weight gain, hair loss to name a few. She was looking into biologics based on the recommendation of my sister-in-law, but then discovered they are only available for those suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis. Today her doctor gave her a prescription for Celebrex. We would love for her to work with you and ultimately be prescription free and pain free. I think she has digestive and possibly hormone balance issues too. What would you suggest to be the best place for her to start? Thank you again for all you do. You are making an amazing difference in the world by sharing your knowledge, passion and compassion with others! Take care, Erin  Monique: Hi Dr. Cabral! Monique here again, Im sure youve answered this question before or something similar but I just wanted to get a more direct answer! My nephew (boyfriends nephew) is a little over a year and a half and is having symptoms of a problem that runs in the family, with only the men. For the past maybe 5-6 months he has had a constant runny nose and now the doctors are saying he has fluid build up behind his ears. My boyfriend and almost every man in the family has had tubes put in their ears for this same problem when they were very little. For a while when he first started eating harder foods he started having very disgusting poops and getting sick often. I believe he has taking a few different kinds of medication but im not sure exactly what. I truly believe from all that I have learned from you that it is all related and he has some type of sensitivity. His mother doesnt think so, she is a nurse, and believes he might just have to get the tubes too. I want so badly to help but dont want to step on toes over the truth. I know they will do whats best but im also not sure how to go about explaining this to her. He is an awesome kid and has great parents and family but they just dont understand the natural health side and the true issue and solution that will last forever instead of the alternative(conventional medicine). Love them want to help them as much as I can, what do you suggest for me to do in my position and what do you believe is happening with him. Thank you so much for all you do truly. Monique Taylor: Hello Dr. Cabral, I have been trying to figure out why I get weird dizzy spells in my bed room. My husband pointed out last night that we sleep within 5 feet of the circuit breaker in our apartment. Unfortunately, there is no where else to put our bed because of the size of our apartment. Do you have any recommendations on how to block the EMFs from the circuit breaker? I'm also aware that apartment at are like hot spots since there is so much WIFI surrounded you. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! As always, grateful for your help!   Elizabeth:  Hi Dr. Cabral I was reading about pure gum turpentine and how it's been used medicinally since ancient times and was used in ancient Babylon to treat stomach problems, inflammations, joint pain, ulcers etc. I trust your view so wondered your opinion on this remedy. There was an interesting article on this and Lingzhi mushrooms by Dr Mark Sircus. Thank you for all that you are and do... look forward to future podcasts :) Dee: Hi Dr Cabral. I appreciate your podcast very much. It's the only podcast I listen to! I had a question about menstrual cramps. I am 46 yrs old and have sporadic cycles. (3 weeks late, 1 week early etc) The first two days of my period are pretty unbearable and I'm in excruciating pain. I had high hopes that the CBD oil would help with the pain, but I've tried it for the past 3 cycles and I don't see a noticeable difference. I'm even taking it every 2 hours and I'm not having any relief. Can you recommend anything natural to take for that kind of pain? Years ago I took Advil and that did help, but I'm not using chemicals anymore and am struggling to find something natural that helps. Thank you  Lauren: Hi, Thank you in advance for everything. I am addicted to your podcasts. You are great! My dad has severe tennis elbow (bursitis) that he left untreated for a while. He received cortisone shots and some PT etc and nothing permanently helps. He had an MRI and it is torn. He is a chef and can't take off so resting really isn't an option at this time as he is always using elbow/wrist. The pain is severe and I was wondering if there is anything more natural that he can be doing. Can this inflammation be linked to other issues / problems? Should he be following any specific diets? Thank you!  I hope you enjoyed the show and be sure to check out part 2 tomorrow! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/582 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral

Occasionally a medication that has been on the market for some time is found to do unexpected harm. That happened with Vioxx, and led researchers to take a closer look at all NSAIDS. A large trial showed that the NSAID pain reliever celecoxib (Celebrex) is no worse than naproxen in raising the risk of heart attacks. […]

MALCOLM OUT LOUD TALK

Lyrica, Cialis, Eliquis, Humira, Latuda, Celebrex, Chantix, you’ve seen the commercials, over 80 run every hour on American television. America is on DRUGS! Oh no, I do mean literally! 79 million Americans Take Psychiatric Drugs! Worse even, well intentioned parents feed the drugs to their kids - all compliments of a drug-induced bureaucratic system that has gone both wild and unchecked. The Eggs Image, you might recall was the famous ad - This Is Your Brain On Drugs. It should be resurrected for the Pharma Industry! TV ads for prescription drugs are illegal in most countries, yet legal in two - and yes you guessed it - America is one of the two. I'll tell you the other one during the show :). TV ads encourage the pharmaceutical industry to cast a wider net for its drugs and to develop drugs that even healthy people would want to take - it's called ADVERTISING folks. These drugs expose people to unnecessary risks and discourage alternative, nonpharmaceutical treatments. Advertising campaigns also shift the market toward newer drugs, which are more expensive and possibly more risky - but what the hell - they make BIG PHARMA RICH! And then there's this notion that - 45% of Americans are mentally ill? At least some doctors seem to think that's the case. Dr. Gary Kohls discusses that issue as well as the roots of psychiatric problems. “If you say a lie often enough, people start believing in its truth,” says Dr. Gary Kohls. People are buying the drugs. And the IMPACT they’re having on society is not good. Drugs like VIOXX for Arthritis instead of ibuprofen  - but the drug increased the risk of heart attack and stroke. Kaiser Permanente ended up having to pull the ad campaign. The ad exposure led to inappropriate prescribing it was found. People died, and yet the FDA continues to look the other way. Dr Gary Kohls is a retired family practitioner, who specialized in holistic (non-drug) and preventive mental health care for the last decade of his career. Dr Kohls worked with previously psychologically traumatized, usually malnourished, sometimes seriously neglected, and always over-drugged patients - many who were labeled “mentally ill” erroneously. Over the decade prior to his retirement, Dr Kohls treated over 1,200 patients and developed a unique treatment regimen that we will talk about today. Ask yourself the following questions: Why isn’t the psychiatric profession held accountable for having no science to support even one of their disorders? How can we as a society put blind trust in a profession that prescribes dangerous drugs especially to children based on subjective criteria instead of science?
