In this episode, you'll hear five songs with a heavier feel. The songs are "I Am All" by Thanateros, "O tobě (i o mně)" by Kurtizány z 25. Avenue, "Najdeš mě tam" by Prouza, "Let Me Bleed" by The Casket Girls, and "The Light" by Brotherhood.
Today's True Weird Stuff - Casket Girls In the 1700s, the French colony in Louisiana had a population problem: there weren't enough women. And so the French government rounded up and shipped over hundreds of women across the Atlantic to marry male settlers and help “civilize” the growing colony. The women carried what little belongings they had in small wooden trunks that looked like mini coffins, which is why the women were known as the Casket Girls.

The Casket Girls of New Orleans have been portrayed as vicious vampires since the early 1900s, when they came into the city and were pushed into prostitution or unwanted marriages.

Today's podcast has two topics: the miraculous staircase of the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico and the vampires of New Orleans. Both of which are linked, oddly enough, by their relationship to nuns.
Guess who's back back back, back again? SEASON 3 BABY! We are starting off with a bang - Taylor makes a huge announcement about her very own alien crash landing later this year. We break down the internet's most popular conspiracy theories and whether or not we believe.
"When I did Christi's Couch, the most popular stories were always when I covered dark stuff," says Christi Lukasiak, though as a listener of Christi's Couch that may not come as too much of a surprise. You may know Christi as a Dance Moms OG, but she's also VERY into the dark and creepy side of things. What better way to explore those topics than with a podcast dedicated to them! Welcome to Beyond the Norm, a podcast dedicated to all those urban legends and things that go bump in the night. Joining Christi is her gay soulmate, Stephen Maynard, who has had quite a dark past himself with gigs at haunted theme parks and running a haunted tour company! Together they'll brave the depths of every macabre story out there. To kick things off we turn our attention to the place Christi and Stephen call home, New Orleans, to uncover it's vibrant and violent history with vampires. If you associate New Orleans with vampires, it's most likely because of Anne Rice and her 13 book opus "The Vampire Chronicles", which began with the New Orleans set "Interview with the Vampire". The book made the city synonymous with vampire culture and is host to many vampire themed events including The Endless Nights Vampire Ball, of which Christi and Stephen eagerly anticipate every year now.But there is a plethora of real historical tales of vampires in the city itself. As a city largely founded by criminals, New Orleans was a lawless town that would make it quite easy for a vampire to prey upon those who wouldn't be missed. There are even signs visible to this day that indicate there may be some truth to these tales. Join Christi and Stephen as they cover three of the French Quarter's most infamous vamps including The Carter Brothers, The Casket Girls and The Count of Saint Germain.Quotes“Don't ever walk around Bourbon Street in sandals. EW! I see people all the time... just don't do it. Or heels! I love the girls who try and rock the heels. Girls. There is not one flat suface in New Orleans. You are undoubtedly going to fall into a hole at some point, stone cold sober or not.” (8:02-8:21 | Christi & Stephen)“Well she was an energy vampire and it was funny because I was talking to her and then she goes, 'Hold on,' and then she goes [Make sucking noise] and I was like, 'What the fuck is happening,' and she says, 'I just fed on their energy!' Ok but here's the thing for being an energy vampire her energy was shit because she was an asshole.'" l(40:13-40:29 | Christi & Stephen)“I was like, 'maybe I'm a vampire,' and he literally looked at me and was like, 'No, you are a Were-Kitten,' and I just ran with it. I will forever be a Were-Kitten. But then I got low-key pissed because I was like, 'Well I couldn't be a werewolf?'” (41:33-41:46 | Stephen)“What doesn't track about that though is why would he bite her if he had bottles of blood already? Maybe he wanted warm fresh blood, Stephen. I'm just saying I don't trust that woman. She lied. Oh my god your victim blaming!” (49:21-49:34 | Christi & Stephen) LinksSubscribe to our Patreon: www.patreon.com/BeyondtheNormPodcastFollow Christi on IG: www.instagram.com/christilukasiakFollow Stephen on IG: www.instagram.com/s_c_mayo Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. In Episode 75 (!), we finally discuss the folklore of the city of New Orleans. We explore the legend of the Casket Girls and the Old Ursuline Convent (were they vampires / were they vampire smugglers / would you rather fight one normal-sized vampire or 500 mini vampires). Then, we discuss the origins and practices of Voodoo and, of course, Marie Laveau. As we mention in the intro, Saints & Witches is taking some time off! We've loved making these past 75 episodes, but we need a break (just thinking about the idea of 75 episodes is making us tired). We'll post a listening guide here soon for those new to the podcast who don't know where to start, or for those who haven't listened to the earlier episodes since they came out. To all our listeners, especially those who have been here from the very beginning, when we were just two pre-pandemic grad students eating too much Mexican food in a studio apartment, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Did you know that New Orleans is the home of the vampire? I know, you're thinking that vampires originated in Transylvania with Vlad the Impaler (better known as Dracula) back in the Middle Ages. And you'd be right—but New Orleans is home to the American vampire. Very different, especially the accent.
Is the legend true? Did the Casket Girls bring vampires to New Orleans?!? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/unexplainedrealms/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/unexplainedrealms/support

Daniela shares the history behind efforts to populate the French territories in early America. Women were sent on ships from the old country to serve as Christian wives of men establishing areas of New Orleans, and parts of Mississippi. Back in Europe, how women were chosen, and at what ages, makes this part of history dark and troubling. Over time, the women delivered to these areas by ship were viewed as mysterious to the locals, causing many to believe these women were supernatural beings. The women discuss vampire representation in media and theories on their origins. The episode closes with how they would choose to live as vampires should they ever have to.

A Casquette Girl (French: fille à la cassette) but also known historically as a Casket Girl or a Pelican Girl, was a woman brought from France to the French colonies of Louisiana to marry. The name derives from the small chests, known as casquettes, in which they carried their clothes. Stories and dark tales would quickly follow them.... Ain't No Such Thing is BACK after a one-year hiatus, with the story of The Casket Girls, "undesirable" women from the early 18th Century shipped from France to the U.S. Gulf Coast cities of Mobile, Biloxi and New Orleans for the sole purpose of providing mates to European explorers and fur traders, so that the Catholic population in the New World would propagate. Over the centuries, rumor and happenstance left these women with a supernatural reputation, ultimately attaining their legendary status as actual vampiric undead.Join Amanda, Jess, Erica and Kevin as we catch you up on where we've been for the past year and consider the strange, very real case of The Casket GirlsJoin our Facebook group for exclusive insights and art based on our stories: https://www.facebook.com/groups/aintnosuchthingAin't No Such Thing © Inverse Press, LLC
Kat's lesson takes us to New France aka France 2 (the sequel) aka NAWLINS. Also, some strange pale girls carrying caskets for duffle bags are following us. NONE of this lesson is embellished so throw on your Team Edward shirt and learn the legend of The Casket Girls. Up next, we may no nothing about coding but we do know World of Warcraft developers nailed it when they accidentally created an in-game pandemic in 2005. Real world epidemiologists studied gamer behavior ie: how players did/did not quarantine, or how some chose chaos and spread the "Corrupted Blood" intentionally. *side eye emoji* This episode is sponsored by betterhelp. “AMERICAN HELLHOUNDS” and More Terrifying True Horror Stories! #WeirdDarknessIN THIS EPISODE: Love, money, divorce, anger, and murder. One Pennsylvania family had it all and then some in the late 1800's. (The Butler County Tragedy) *** Count Saint Germain and Jacques Saint Germain, John and Wayne Carter, the Casket Girls of New Orleans. Despite many years between all of their lives, they all still have one grisly thing in common. All were thought to be, and possibly were, real vampires tied to the Big Easy… a place where real blood-suckers continue to live and roam the streets even now in the twenty-first century. (Vampires of New Orleans) *** They have a long history in the United Kingdom, stalking the moors and fog-carpeted streets in the night. But it appears hounds from Hell have also made their way to the Americas. New Orleans for the longest time has been world renowned for the unique mystic and almost otherworldly feeling that the city brings. With that being said we couldn't help but to dive into the paranormal locations that fill this unique city. In this episode we dive deep into a hotel that was once a boarding school, an interesting legend about possible vampires in the city, a building that once held a very dark past that even made the townspeople gasp when they found out what had been going on within the walls and finally but not least one of the oldest cemeteries located in the city that houses more than 100,000 graves and is still an active burial site today. We talk about room 208 located in the Andrew Jackson Hotel, The Casket Girl Legend, and more in this episode! New Orleans is such a unique city and it's only fitting that the paranormal locations fit that bill too! Locations not mentioned in this episode but will likely be part of a part 2 episode later on in the year: Sultan's Palace, Mahogany Jazz Hall, St. Louis Cemetery, The Pharmacy Museum, Metairie Cemetery, Hotel Monteleone, Bourbon Orleans hotel, Bloody Mary's Voodoo Shop, The Morgue and Fort St. Charles. Welcome back! To you and us. Sorry for the delay in episodes. Today we discuss the Casket Girls who became known as vampires...kind of. The second story covers the conspiracy and disappearance of Pennsylvania DA Ray Gricar.
You probably know all of the myths and lore. But are vampires just fictional characters derived from Bram Stoker's Dracula? Or, are they rooted in reality? Are vampires real? The tales of the allegedly real vampires of New Orleans, the Count St. Germain, The Casket Girls, and The Carter Brothers may convince you that they are.
