PIKE'S FORMER CRUSH has a secret and this week we have guest co-host Cassie Soliday from The Ink & Paint Folk Podcast to talk about it! Is the perfect world of Majalis too good to be true or does it just seem that way to Federation outsiders? Meanwhile, Cadet Uhura gets exposed to La'an's list of security rules -- which are more like guidelines -- and Dr. M'Benga's doctor goes on a playdate. Does this episode setup a disturbing motif in this new Star Trek series, or were the writers really just horny for the ending they wrote and worked backwards from that? THIS EPISODE ENDS IN A SPLIT VOTE! What grade do you think this episode deserves? Vote via Twitter (@trekmarrykpod), our website, or through the Spotify app! If you're interested in animation, check out Cassie's podcast, and if you're enjoying our show, consider rating us five stars on Apple Podcasts and leaving a review. Welcome to the Ink and Paint Girls podcast where we celebrate women working in animation and explore representation behind the scenes and on the screen. In an era where women mostly worked in the Ink and Paint Department, a young woman named Bianca Majolie was hired to (as one news outlet reported) invade "the strictly masculine stronghold" of the story department at Disney Animation. She was the first recorded woman to work as a storyboard and concept artist for the company. Her most remembered accomplishment was creating the Silly Symphony cartoon, Elmer Elephant, as well as was a source of inspiration for animators like Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston who sited her philosophies on pathos for how the studio's storytelling style eventually evolved. A lesson that the gag-driven storytellers in the room weren't ready for at the time! Hosted by Rebecca Nelson and Cassie Soliday. Welcome to the first episode of Grilled Cheese & Gin, the podcast where we talk about woman-ing, realizing your changeable dream and listening to women much more experienced than us talk about their zig-zag path toward those moving targets. The term “Changeable dream” is our short-hand for the way we reconsider and remake our dreams and aspirations based on new opportunities and challenges. For example, instead of pursuing the career dream of achieving certification as a Unicorn Counselor (our 7-year old self advised us to charge only $10 for a 1-hr session), we may instead decide that we have an interest in recording our conversations with our friends who give US great advice that we could in turn share with other woman-ers. We never want to give up on our dreams but sometimes they can change with the winds of reality and the sands of actual university available certifications. //EPISODE 1 In this first episode we interview Beth Scott who moved with her spouse so that he could go to school and advance his career and eventually moved again after he got a job in another city. She decided to also advance her career while he was in training and after some strategic efforts found an amazing opportunity in their new city. Vicki and Jessica explain the name of the podcast and why they launched it and discuss their very present tense moving for a spouse’s job stories and share tips in case you are also in the very present tense sitting on a couch wondering what you are going to do after you finish the last episode of American Gods...or Glow...or the entire movie and credits of Moana. (Please finish those first. Totally worth it :-) ) //SUPPORT For the first 3 weeks after launch from July 20-August 3, 2017 we launching our first Patreon. Welcome to the Jammiest Bits of Jam Storytelling Podcast! (Apologies for being a few days late, but here we go...) The theme for May is "Nerdy." We bring you a poem and a short story: "Nerd" written by Christina Kishpaugh and "Whatever You Do, Don't Be Yourself" by Cassie Soliday.
This week, we present two stories of learning experiences connected to early childhood, from an expert in maternal and infant health discovering the reality behind her research to a first-grader striving to be one of the "smart kids." Part 1: Psychologist Amy Brown researches maternal and infant health, but when she has a child of her own, she’s confronted with the reality behind the research. Part 2: As a first-grader, Cassie Soliday finds her coveted spot in the gifted class is at risk. Dr. Amy Brown is an Associate Professor in Child Public Health at Swansea University where she researches experiences of becoming a mother, particularly around how babies are fed. She has published widely in how social, cultural and psychological barriers can damage breastfeeding and subsequently maternal wellbeing. Amy is fascinated by how culture defines motherhood, through pressurising mothers to have it all and enjoy ‘every precious moment’, whilst simultaneously devaluing their role. She also has three children of her own and switches between hearing women’s tales about becoming a mother and experiencing it first hand herself. Sometimes life feels like one long never ending ethnographic research project but offers her insight into these complex issues. Cassie Soliday is The Story Collider's LA-based producer. In addition to being a producer, she is a writer, comic artist, and the love child of a poet and a parrot head. She's an advocate for women in the arts and produces two podcasts, 'Ink and Paint Girls' and 'Jammiest Bits of Jam'. Afflicted with wanderlust and the desire to run away with the cat circus, she has three great and terrible ideas that could get her fired so she could do so. She lives and works in California making cartoons. She is @cassiesoli and cassie@storycollider.org. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Today we're speaking with Kaukab Basheer and though she is currently a storyboard revisionist at Disney TV Animation on 'The Lion Guard', she has an amazing career of Character Design, Character Layout, Storyboards, and even Creative Directing on a popular children series in India. Kaukab is the first guest we've had who has started her animation career in another country! We discuss self-reflection to better your art and career, finding inspiration from outside of your craft, and being a female in a male-dominated industry.
