Shaun Randall, the author of A Peace of My Mind and Words Like Wine, recently released his debut novel, Letters From Lima. The new book takes readers on a journey inside a world they never knew existed to uncover truth and discover themselves all over again. In March 2020, Randall took a vacation to Lima, Perú, with no idea what was in store for him on that fateful trip. He met Eliet. 15 months later they were engaged and they now make their home together in Barranco, Perú. What started as a way to get away and clear his head became an adventure filled with two years of intense writing and revision—all while living in South America's most vibrant city. Originally from San Diego, California, Randall also spent time as an adolescent in Portland, Oregon; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and South Florida. If you put on your air pods to stream Lou Beauty's music on Spotify, you may hear lush synths, soulful grooves, and dreamy soundscapes, but if you listen closer, what you're really listening to is an artist's melodic pursuit of creativity set to the beat of their curiosity. Luis Velez, a communications major at CSU Bakersfield, is the musician behind this self-described “synthpop & bedroom indie project,” professionally known as Lou Beauty. He has been writing music since he was in middle school, honing his craft performing in talent shows throughout high school, and is now curating his curiosities in a number of creative endeavors while in university. We've all been sick but we managed to claw ourselves out of bed and into the studio. After last episode's discussion of 90's-set Captain Marvel we decided to revisit the 90's, the era of 'girl power' and look at some kickass women of 90's cinema. Turns out we were in for quite a culture shock. What does the title mean? Does Luke return or does ‘Skywalker’ refer to something else? 13:19 – Let’s talk the female action heroes and the scarcity of female action heroes in the 90’s. The rule is that it the movie had to be a vehicle for the Female Action Hero. 16:06 – Film No. 1: Tank Girl starring Lori Petty, Malcolm McDowell and Naomi Watts. Is it as good as Tom remembers and is it as good as Dee was expecting? Nope!
