Episode 65Greetings, Explorers! Our second episode of the 2020 Summer Special is here! The gang takes a look at Scooby Apocalypse, Vol. 1 by writers Keith Giffen and J. M. DeMatteis. This Scooby story is part of DC Comics' Hannah-Barbera Beyond. We previously covered The Flintstones story that is part of the Hanna-Barbera Beyond series in Episode 40.Scooby Apocalypse, Vol. 1 is an Scooby Gang origin story set in a post-apocalyptic world. In the story, Fred and Daphne are a hard-hitting two-person news team. Daphne is the on-camera personality and Fred is her loyal cameraman (who is desperately in love with Daphne). Wilma is part of a secret science team whose experiments with nanotechnology may bring out about the end of the world. And what about Scooby and Shaggy? Scooby is part of a secret experiment at Wilma's lab and Shaggy is a friendly dog trainer hired by the lab where Wilma works.Johnny and Dennis (Frankie is off getting Scooby Snacks) chat about by chatting about Dennis's love of all things Scooby. Secondly, they discuss the connection between Scrappy Doo, Snarf, Orko, and Poochie. It is almost time for the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! crew to make the trek to Smallville, KS! That's right, the childhood home town of Superman! Of course, we are making the visit to coincide with the fifth Smallville Con, taking place June 23 and 24 at the Kansas State Fair Grounds. Now, to give us the details of the show, we are joined on the call by show owner Jon Robinson. We take a look at the media guests, such as Dean Cain, Eddie McClintock, David Nykl, Corin Nemec, Steven Williams, and others! We're excited to see so many of our comic creator friends, like Bob Hall, Mike Zeck, John Beatty, and Rick Stasi. Plus the costume contests, the wrestling matches, the video game tournament, the dragons and so much more! This is a show you need to be at in just two weeks, people! Now, if we gave you just the interview with Jon, that would be a really good podcast. But wait, there's more! Cullen has an interview with Dean Haspiel, talking about his new book Red Hook from Image Comics. Jerry and Cullen make John's pick for him for our weekly Pick 3, sponsored by Clint's Comics. Did John choose Filbert Factor #1 or maybe he went with Scooby Apocalypse #26? Tune into the show to find out his long-distant pick from Europe. Summer means a chance to watch a new show, and we are looking forward to Marvel's Cloak & Dagger on Freeform. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or by email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. When The Nerdy Show Network’s flagship podcast isn’t unloading on the latest geek news and happenings, we’re diving deep into super-specific discussions and interviews. Across the network, one of our favorite topics of discussion has got to be animation. From the kind that's paired best with over-sugared cereal, to the kind that makes your shell-shocked 'Nam vet great uncle blush. Well, in this episode we send up a series that's been around since that great uncle of yours was slashing through the jungles: Scooby-Doo. For nearly 50 years Scoob and the gang have been run-cycling their way through one spooky situation to another across TV, films, comics, and really, every medium known to humankind if we're being thorough. Join Cap, Doug, Jonathan from Wicked Anime, and Norbert Daniels Jr. of Saturday Morning Block Party as we dig through the gang's storied and sometimes sordid history. We explore the Hanna-Barbera history that led to the creation of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?, the cool and sometimes inexplicable crossovers, the new comic Scooby Apocalypse, and the series' crowning achievements such as the acclaimed Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated. Whether you're down with the Doo, or have witnessed one unmasking too many, there's strange nerdy stories herein guaranteed to thrill and chill. Rikes! Today, Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester bring you two-plus hours to discuss the rumors of a June DC Relaunch. Graeme is here to give us a lot of history and context, and Jeff is here to give us a lot of unsubstantiated theorizing.   We also talk about the near-total failure of the DCYou; the likely failure of All-New Different Marvel; Scooby Apocalypse and the Hanna-Barbera reboot comics; the achievements of Tom King; that one page in Enigma; Black Magick by Greg Rucka and Nickola Scott; and a What If story featuring Miracleman you just might have to hear to believe.  Show notes are available at waitwhatpodcast.com, we welcome your comments and questions at WaitWhatPodcast@gmail.com, and we invite you to look out for us on Twitter, Tumblr, and Patreon!
