En Santa Cruz de Tenerife, en la conocida Pensión Padrón, se escondieron durante años hechos que nadie supo interpretar hasta mucho después. Lo que comenzó como desapariciones aparentemente aisladas terminó siendo una de las investigaciones más complejas de la crónica criminal de Canarias. José Antonio Luis Aguiar, conocido como El Jala, es el responsable de, al menos, dos asesinatos que tuvieron lugar en la misma habitación: la número 306. El primero ocurrió en 2009, cuando Adoración de la Cruz, una mujer que vivía en la pensión, fue golpeada y estrangulada hasta la muerte. Su cuerpo fue ocultado en un petate y lanzado al Barranco de Santos, donde no se encontró hasta años después, cuando caminantes descubrieron los restos. Las muestras de ADN halladas en la habitación permitieron conectar ese crimen con otro sucedido un año antes: la muerte violenta de Ángel Bermejo, un hombre con problemas de adicción que fue retenido y agredido en la misma estancia. El hallazgo de sangre en el techo, restos óseos bajo los colchones y evidencias forenses culminaron en la detención de Aguiar, que ya cumplía condena por uno de los crímenes cuando se volvió a abrir la investigación. El caso fue resuelto gracias a técnicas de investigación modernas, análisis genético y una revisión meticulosa de cada detalle forense y testimonial.
