Join Gav and Chris as they look back at a professional performance from Sunderland at the SoL against Luton and look forward to an exciting yet daunting trip to Elland Road to take on Leeds United! What's the crack? A routine win for Sunderland - it was much needed after a tough few games at home recently; How good were Enzo Le Fee and Dan Neil? The difference in Luton is remarkable - are they headed to League One? Leeds are the most in-form team in the country and have kept eight consecutive clean sheets - so naturally, we're confident of going there and getting something... The big decision for Le Bris is who plays at centre half at Elland Road; We'd snap your arm off for a point now... would you?All this and more! If you don't fancy listening to our Chris Wynn detailing his frustrations with our last fixture while our Gavin Henderson tries to look back without anger, you can skip straight to the next one. Just saying aye. What's the crack? The lads weren't exactly apoplectic after the result at the Stadium of Light against a Plymouth fresh from a mauling, but they weren't exactly delighted either... The team selection was a little confusing; what did the lads make of Le Bris setting us up how he did? Was Samed the right choice for that match? Chris suggests that Dan Neil should do what Dan Neil does best. WILSON GOT A GOAL; Bless the lad he bloody well deserved one. Defensive daftness; was Patto at fault for either of Plymouth's goals or was it a collective failure? This leads the lads back into a familiar discussion about the future of our young number one. We're still in a good place despite two points dropped but does that mean Boro is another must win? Apologies for the lateness. It was unfortunately a matter of life and death. So it turns out Reg didn't really give a shit, and neither would we if we hadn't gone and lost Aji Alese to injury. So what positives can Gav and Chris take from that forgettable fixture? What's the crack? Aye we lost it's terrible and very sad we're obviously devastated... but fear not, it's not a league game so it doesn't count. Is it bad that we'd rather focus on the league? We don't think so. Aleksic got a goal for his troubles which only a few of us will remember admittedly but who else stood out? Did any of our young lads impress? A bad day for Dan Neil in particular, which is rare nowadays, but did he really need to be on the pitch? Enzo Le Fee got a nice reveal at a fairly empty and freezing Stadium after the announcement the night before the game; it looks like we may need a few other faces though. Aji Alese went down and had to be stretchered off the pitch in considerable pain; it's not looking great for the lad and we're gutted for him, so what do we do in the meantime? Last of the summer Wynn; Chris gets wistful and nostalgic about the magic of the FA Cup again but he has good reason to. It's just not the competition it was... All this more! Burnley next! Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for December 2, 2024 is: complaisant kum-PLAY-sunt adjective Someone described as complaisant is willing or eager to please other people, or is easily convinced to do what other people want. // Derek was a complaisant boy, always happy to oblige whenever his mother or father asked him to run an errand. // She was too complaisant to say no to her sister's demands. See the entry > Examples: “Last month Ferrari lofted its banners over a resort near the southern port of Cagliari and invited journalists to test-drive the new Ferrari Roma Spider, taking advantage of the excellent tarmac, ideal weather and complaisant authorities.” — Dan Neil, The Wall Street Journal, 5 Oct. 2023 Did you know? Complaisant and complacent are often confused, and for good reason. Not only do the words look and sound alike, but they also both come from Latin verb complacēre, meaning “to please greatly.” (The placēre in complacēre is an ancestor of the English word please). Complacent is used disapprovingly to describe someone who is self-satisfied or unconcerned with whatever is going on, but it also shares with complaisant the sense of “inclined to please or oblige.” This sense of complacent is an old one, but that hasn't kept language critics from labeling its use as an error—and on the whole, modern writers do prefer complaisant for this meaning. Whether you complaisantly oblige, well, that's up to you.
The Lads ground a point away from home against a physical but ultimately toothless QPR as we saw Jobe Bellingham given a straight red and Sunderland fail to score for the first time this season! What's the crack? Still top, just the three points separates us from Leeds but Régis Le Bris has a challenge on his hands and there's a distinct possibility he's genuinely loving the chance to solve this puzzle. We're serious too, the man loves a challenge. Wasn't our finest performance of the season by some margin but was it really our worst? Shit happens; Bellingham accepted the red with grace after a clumsy challenge in the second half to reduce us to ten men, but he's mint and we love him so aye. The Chris Rigg scare is over (we think) and RLB stated he'd be back in training this coming week so that's a relief, but just in case we're without everyone but Dan Neil by Preston, who do we think we'll bring in and how do we approach it?We're playing too many away games here like but is it better to get them out of the way early? Chin up Jobe. Ha'way the Lads!#SAFC #EFL #EFLChampionship #SkyBetChampionship Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Watford reaction, Dan Neil talk plus Chris Rigg and Patterson transfer gossip
So we lost. Yous wanna fight about it? Come on I'm walking here! Bada bing. But seriously we did lose after Dan Neil lost his mind and brought a lad down for no good reason, so our Gav and Martin sat down to talk about it and lightly preview the upcoming fixture with Derby at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday. What's the crack? Just can't stand losing a game like that. It stings. What did the lads make of that first half performance? Besides of course it being shite aye.WILSON IS A DOOR; Aye the happiest Sunlun player since Luke O'Nien bagged his first goal for the club, so what did we make of his first start overall? That Dan Neil challenge and the apology that followed; We were comfortable at the time. What was he thinking man? Another bounce needed as we head into the game against newly promoted Derby County on Tuesday night, so with Ballard and Mayenda fit, and given the short recovery period between fixtures, what changes do we think Reg will make? Three league games, three clean sheets, three wins and top of the EFL Championship table! Regis Le Bris becomes the first manager in our history to achieve this and it's delightful, fucking delightful. What's le crack? ROMAINE MUNDLE; Upon stepping into the still flaming shoes of the outgoing Jack Clarke he only went and won the game for us didn't he. Unbelievable Jeff. TOP OF THE LEAGUE; Aye we're only three games in we know but that's a historic run for Sunderland AFC and everything is falling into place for RLB. Rigged again; Can you drop Chris Rigg at this point? Another brilliant performance from our young midfield, but a bit of déjà vu for our Dan Neil as he was sent off after a second yellow with 5 minutes to go. Anthony Patterson hasn't had anything to do for weeks so what is he doing to entertain himself whilst Hume, Alese, O'Nien and Cirkin form a practically impenetrable wall around him; as far as we can tell it is the first time in our history that we have won three without conceding so aye. Impressive work lads. Alexandre Mendy has been spotted swimming up the east coast of England but may have run into trouble through the night around Lowestoft, drones have been sent to look for Sunlun's number one fan; Jack Clarke's departure announced by Sunderland and Ipswich as well as more talk of incomings at the club and a few of your questions. All this and more! Will Dan Neil sign a new deal at Sunderland? Plus pre-season and transfer reflections
Our disorganised (and now slightly late) season review continues as we all await imminent news from our dear club about our imminent head coach. But we aren't talking about managers at all here (we'll react to that when we get an official announcement) as today our Gav, Chris and Martin's focus is on the players themselves. What's the crack? Now the lads are away on their hols and with plenty of time to reflect, who do we think stood out in the past season? Besides Jack Clarke aye..The lads try to sell Patto for a giggle; but how do we feel about the goalkeeping situation? Is Young a bit too young for a chance? We may have the best pair of full backs in the league if Cirkin was able to stay fit, so what did the lads make of our attempts to deal with injuries this season, what exactly is Leo Hjelde and will Pembele stick around next season? Are O'Nien and Ballard good enough for a promotion push or do they need further assistance and more experienced competition? Will Ballard be snapped up by someone or is it too early for him? Dan Neil, Pierre Ekwah and that central midfield issue; The lads debate the qualities of both players and of course look at the risk of losing Neil in the summer. Jobe; What do we do with the younger Bellingham brother? He's had a decent season for a lad his age but has he been mismanaged? The Jack Clarke debate; Will he stay or will he go? Martin fights valiantly against the position of Gav and Chris on this, but we can all agree that the saga may go on for a while yet. Paddy Roberts and the rest; Aye I won't list everyone but Gav does so what do we do with all these wingers, tens and alleged forwards? Should we have sold Roberts when we had the chance? Why did we bother with Burstow? Is Rusyn actually decent or a competition winner? What happened to poor Jewi? All this and so much more!Another pod will follow... Imminently. Hosted on Acast. WE WON THE FOOTY AGAIN AND EVERYTHING IS BACK TO NORMAL! Aye our Gav and Chris reconvened to wax lyrical once more about the joys of comfortably winning matches as Sunderland beat a terrible Norwich side over the weekend; Jack Clarke got back to tearing things apart, Dan Neil just keeps getting better and even Trai sort of got back on the scoresheet with an absolutely intentional strike/cross because why the f*** not eh? What's the crack? PGMOL are still on a warning, but even they couldn't stop the Lads on Saturday; So how are we feeling after all that? Jack Clarke and Dan Neil may just be two of the very best players in the division but try keep that to yourselves aye; the lads try to convince everyone they should stick around Sunlun for a while longer. What a goal man. Just aye. Still got it on repeat. GO WATCH THE GOAL AGAIN! A brilliant performance from all the lads; besides the aforementioned not-so-secret weapons, who really stood out for us and how confident are we heading into the Swansea game this weekend? Play to the whistle Pierre; Was that offside? Should Ekwah be paying any attention to the linesman anyway? There's been a mixed reaction to Rusyn's first start; what did the lads make of what he brought to the side? Is he a better option in that position than who we've seen so far? Ah there's all kinds going on, from your three word reviews to Gav getting a couple goes at predicting the last result until he got it right to just pointing out how shite Norwich were. Should probably give it a listen and we'll be back midweek. HA'WAY THE LADS! #SAFC #EFL #EFLChampionship Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Gav and Chris return to action and find themselves reacting to a loss against Stoke City in a pretty shit and extremely Stoke-esque game marred by a mixture of tactical mistakes, Stoke themselves and PGMOL apology worthy errors from more useless officials. What's the Crack? Two weeks of waiting for 90+ minutes of frustration; how do the lads feel about it all? Mowbray made some changes to the line-up and opted to keep all our strikers on the bench before later throwing all our strikers on the pitch; would he have been wise to maybe use one or two from the beginning? Though everyone was delighted to see Pierre Ekwah back on the pitch and Jobe did his best with the role he was forced to play, how much did we miss the presence of Dan Neil in the middle of the park? Another match, another terrible example of modern officiating; considering we only lost the use of a key player over 135 minutes of football because of the decision making of a referee whose general incompetence drew an official apology from PGMOL, we were daft enough to think they'd try a bit harder. Unfortunately they doubled down. How did that goal stand? How did they not see it? Were we denied a penalty again towards the end of the match and can we trade in these apologies for points or, if all else fails, alcohol? Maybe a consistent, sensible and professional official or two? Stoke are just so… Stoke. Has Alex Neil been imbued with the spirit of Tony Pulis? Suppose we should give him some credit for managing to take advantage of our weaknesses. So Leicester City away on Tuesday; how do Gav and Chris see this one playing out? Are we expecting some sort of response from both Mowbray and the players? The lads work their way through a wonderful list of enthusiastic, positive and glowing three word reviews from their fellow fans! All this and more! Ha'way the Lads!#SAFC #EFLChampionship #EFL Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
After avoiding the issue for as long as possible, Gav and Chris sat down in the aftermath of a refereeing and game management disasterclass to look at Sunderland 0-4 Boro and the state of officiating in the modern game. What's the crack? What the actual f*** was that? How is that the standard of refereeing in this country? The letter of the law versus the spirit of the law; it's not the rules, it's how and when you apply them. A lack of consistency; the lads get to the bottom of the frustration with PGMOL. Mowbray's game management; what did the lads make of the way Tony attempted to adapt to the situation? Despite the result, how do the lads feel heading into this international break sat where we are currently? All this and a bit of a long rant. Aye. Ha'way the Lads! Gav and Chris were quite frustrated with the result on Sunday but they managed to sit down and relive it all for a giggle, weaving a few of your points, questions and three word reviews throughout.. and aye just generally being themselves. What's the crack? Gav bans his mate from attending any future home fixtures; How can we dominate like that and yet lose, and why does it feel so Sunlun? The positives: Dan Neil and Jobe Bellingham to name a couple; how good is young Jobe, was taking him off a mistake? Just how exceptional a player is Dan Neil going to be? He's already a PL midfielder in our opinion.Do we play better without a striker? It would appear so currently, but can that change? Aye you might've noticed this was actually recorded in the immediate aftermath of the game so Gav and Chris got stuck into the immediate fan reaction and many of our listener opinions; All this and more! Anything interesting happen lately, lads and lasses? Join our Gav and Chris as they try and figure things out in the aftermath of Sunderland's home draw with Huddersfield on Tuesday night... and then look even further back to everything we have and haven't missed since we all took a bit of an extended Easter Holiday... Aye. What's The Crack? Sunderland drew with Huddersfield at the SOL on Tuesday night, and the result is making everyone feel a bit flat... which has the lads all confused, because despite the amazing season we've had, we're left thinking about the "what ifs" yet again... Did Mowbray get his team selection and tactics right? Why isolate Dan Neil? Why get Pritch on corners? Why not start Ekwah? Why are we like this? It's been a busy old period since we last recorded a Podcast, so where do we go from here - heading into our last few games of the season - besides obviously recording pods again? It is our solemn duty to report that - as fun as the last couple days have been drinking the quite delicious tears of random Newcastle fans - our mag neighbours sadly weren't the only team to lose at the weekend. In light of this, our Gav and Chris sat down as the weekend drew to a close to dissect another in a long line of losses to the spawn of Jimmy Hill. What's the crack? Why can't we beat Coventry at their home ground… even when they don't own their home ground? Tony's team selection; let's just say we weren't fans of it. Tony's team management; you guessed it, not fans of it. That referee; again, not big fans. Are the Lads actually tired or are they hearing Tony tell them they're tired so merely playing along? That Gyökeres is some player isn't he? Why is Mowbray not considering the likes of O'Nien in midfield in games like this where he'd arguably be far better suited than Dan Neil and Michut? How do Gav and Chris feel heading into our lovely reunion with the bald lad who left midway through the start of our season for more money? All this and more! Gav and Chris sat down to react to the absolute sh*tshow at Rotherham, query our team selection on the night, look ahead to our next match away to Coventry and answer a few of your questions! What's the crack? That was just… aye… what was that? The lads think one man is to blame for that result, and he wasn't on the pitch. Don't Panic; The lads try to take some positives from the game, try being the operative word. Why didn't we start Patrick Roberts? Why were Michut and Neil picked for a physical battle? Why did we drop Hume? Why can't we just win all the time? Etc Should Neil and Amad be rested soon? How do the lads feel looking ahead to our fixture against Coventry at the weekend? If tiredness is an issue, why are we not rotating as much? Is Mogga not yet confident in lads like Ekwah, Ba, Lihadji and Bennette? Phil, Gav and Chris sat down late Sunday night to look back over a lovely ‘not a derby' day as we took all three points from Boro at the Stadium of Light! What's the crack? Did Boro bother turning up? Did we notice them at all? Is this the best style of football the lads have witnessed at Sunderland in their lifetime? THE ROSSCO REBOUND - The Loch Ness Drogba is making a habit of that… AMAD LAD STRIKES AGAIN - We know we can't keep him but we really would love to keep him, so can we keep him a little bit longer? The curious case of Trai Hume's moustache; why does it exist? If he shaves it off will he lose his footballing ability? Should we just all continue to politely ignore it? Dan Neil has been absolutely brilliant for us lately, is he getting enough credit for the job he's doing? Michut la magie - though he's divided opinion a bit with his performance the young lad is looking better each time he steps onto the pitch; so what did the lads make of him stepping in for Evans and his partnership with Neil in the middle? Why are the lads ignoring the fact their producer has a banging headache? Let's all laugh at Wigan and our wonderful old friend James McClean; Is Amad better than Peter Beagrie? Pulitzer Prize-winning automotive journalist Dan Neil, named tonight's featured vehicle one of the 50 worst cars of all time, saying it "violate(d) one of the principal rules of car design: we like cars that look like us. With its multiple eyes and supernumerary nostrils, the Aztek looks deformed and scary, something that dogs bark at and cathedrals employ to ring bells. The shame is, under all that ugliness, there was a useful, competent crossover." The Pontiac Aztek has always been noted for its controversial styling; but thanks in part to Hollywood, and the passions of folks like our panel tonight; the Aztek has gained more than just a cult following and we want to explore that. Joining us tonight are Jon Peterson and Paul Gunn from the Aztek Owners Club to Break/Fix to unpack the Pontiac Aztek story.

Gav was joined last night by our Chris Wynn and Phil West as they reacted to the end of the EFL League One 21/22 season, and what it all means for Sunderland as we face Sheffield Wednesday in the Play-Off Semi Finals! What's the crack? So here we are lads and lasses - Sunderland are going to face Sheffield Wednesday over two legs, to see who can get to Wembley to face either Milton Keynes or Wycombe Wanderers. How are the lads feeling about Alex Neil's more.. methodical.. approach to matches - particularly the match everyone watched on Saturday? Will this ‘by any means necessary' attitude serve us well in the coming matches? BROADY LAD - He's there again but it looks like he's taken a knock, and as of recording we have no idea as to whether he'll be fit or not this Friday so... what exactly do we do without him if this is the case? Ross Stewart took a knock on Saturday also, although that looked marginally less worrying than Broadhead's - does nothing for the nerves does it? Which players stand out as being the most important/influential as we look to the Play-off Semis - there's a certain Aiden McGeady on the horizon but would Alex Neil want to be using him this late on? Is there time for one last step over? Looking at the midfield - do the lads see the concern over Dan Neil not being selected? Does Embleton fit back there, and how well is Corry Evans performing the task he's been given by the gaffer? The lads try to work out if they're confident or not, and... did you know our Chris was on Sky the other day? We had no idea. All this and more! Once more unto the breach and all the rest! Hawaaaaay the lads!#SAFC #EFL #EFLPlayoffs #LeagueOne #TilTheEnd See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Gav was joined earlier today by our Martin Wanless - and our old friend Barnesy - to go over yesterday's result against a pretty dire Crewe Alexandra side and to hear what head coach Alex Neil and goalscorer Dan Neil had to say following the game. What's the crack? The lads attempt to break down those (largely bleak) first 80 or so minutes;Nick gives us his thoughts on the performance... and Alex Neil's response to some of his thoughts on the performance; Two quite wonderful goals - one a Dan Neil special and the other a well worked attack from a combination of Clarke and Roberts - so... what did the lads think of those substitutions? Would it be wiser to play your best team from the beginning - or is Alex Neil still unsure as to what the best team is after the short time he's had?Can playing style really be ignored in favour of the results - for example if you don't actually score that defensive strength doesn't matter much does it - and should we be set up to attack from the off at home against weaker attacking sides, rather than to defend? From speaking to Dan Neil yesterday; does Nick think he's handling the situation he's been in pretty well - particularly considering his young age?Looking ahead to the next match against Lincoln - a side capable of a bit more threat in attack than Crewe - how confident are the lads of another vital win?All this and much more!#SAFC #EFL #LeagueOne See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
