Ismael Barroso is the old man we all want! This weekend, he took on Ohara Davies and put him away in the first round. He reminded everyone that he may be 40, ancient in the sport of boxing, but he's got the mythical old man strength. With the win, Ismael Barroso captured the interim WBA World Super Lightweight title and possibly a rematch with Rolando Romero. Of course that is possibly up to whatever Ryan Garcia decides to do. Regardless, Ismael Barroso had a spectacular performance and it was fantastic to see. In the main event, we had Vergil Oritz returning, this time at 156 against Fredrick Lawson. It showed us that not all first round knockouts were created equal and his was disappointing. After hurting Fredrick Lawson, Vergil Ortiz pounced on Lawson and referee Tony Weeks called the fight off. Fair or foul? Weeks responded on social media that he saw that Fredrick Lawson had two scans tell them he had a brain aneurysm. Then a third doc was brought in to change all that. Now we're looking down the barrel of Vergil Ortiz vs. Tim Tzyu, and that's a fight we all can appreciate. What did you think of Vergil Ortiz and Ismael Barroso on DAZN? Joseph Parker defeated Deontay Wilder and ruined everyone's most wanted Christmas present that is Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder. The performance from Joseph Parker was nothing short of fantastic and Parker deserves all the praise and big name fights he gets going forward. Not to take away from Jospeh Parker but Deontay Wilder looked like HOT GARBAGE! It also makes sense that Joseph Parker trains with Tyson Fury, the only other man to beat Deontay Wilder. In addition to Deontay Wilder losing to Joseph Parker, we will talk about Anthony Joshua beating Otto Wallin better than Tyson Fury did. Anthony Joshua has got much criticism for looking bad since the Andy Ruiz loss. But this fight marked a return of sorts. But I won't be so quick to say AJ is “back” per se. I want to see that from him in his next couple fights before I can say that he's back. Regardless, it was a throwback performance from Anthony Joshua with the fifth round finish of Otto Wallin. What's next for the former heavyweight champ? Lastly, we talk everyone's favorite decision merchant: Dmitry Bivol. He took on Lyndon Arthur and looked great. Dmitry Bivol dominated the fight from bell to bell but lacked that killer instinct that we all love from him. Bivol is great but what did it cost us? All 12 rounds of 1-2's and 1-1-2's. Does Dmitry Bivol face Artur Beterbiev next? What did you think of Joseph Parker defeating Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua returning to form and Dmitry Bivol cruising to the win? Dave LeDuc loves all things Myanmar. But maybe more than anything, Dave loves stepping into a fighting pit without gloves or shoes, and giving well-placed head butts that knock an opponent cold! Dave is Myanmar's first— and only— foreign champion of Lethwei, a traditional martial arts boxing practice that dates back centuries. Dave became interested in mixed martial arts and trained in a variety of forms. He eventually went to Thailand, and began looking for fighting opportunities. He landed a controversial bout through the Department of Corrections, which invited Dave into a Thai maximum security prison to spar with a convicted felon. The stakes were high: if the criminal beat Dave, he would be released from prison. But Dave won, and is currently in talks about a movie being made about that encounter. That bout was also the springboard for him to enter Myanmar and learn Lethwei. From the moment he arrived in Myanmar in 2016, he knew he had found a home. His first opponent was the then-undefeated Lethwei champion, Too Too, and after beating him became a cultural phenomenon in Myanmar. He even got the very painful Lethwei tattoos, a rite of passage in the sport. Now living in Turkey, Dave was, like so many, horrified when the coup broke in February. He knew that refusing to stay silent would close off any potential business he hopes to build in Myanmar, along with ensuring that he won't personally be able to visit for the foreseeable future. And yet he has chosen to speak out, highlighting the struggles of the democracy movement in light of the naked aggression faced by the Burmese military. He closes with, “Keep fighting, stay strong! You're not alone. There's a lot of love from around the world.” Support this podcast
“Veganism is not only a diet, but it extends to that I want to continue what I've been doing all my life — to break barriers” - Dave Leduc Welcome to The Fit Vegan Podcast, I'm your host, Luckie Sigouin! Today, I had the pleasure of chatting with Dave Leduc! Dave is the current undefeated Lethwei openweight World Champion. In 2016, he became the first non-Burmese to ever win the prestigious Lethwei Golden Belt in over a thousand years of history. In 2017, he pioneered Lethwei in Japan alongside the International Lethwei Federation Japan (ILFJ) and went on to capture the “Lethwei in Japan” Openweight World Title in Tokyo. Dave now competes exclusively in the largest bare-knuckle organization in the world, the World Lethwei Championship (WLC) where he won the inaugural Cruiserweight World Title in 2019. Dave talks about the sport Lethwei and how it's different from other combat sports. He also talks about what he loves about Myanmar's culture and why he chose to stay in the country. Dave also dives deeper into his philosophy in life and how veganism changed his life. He also shares his plans of building a vegan tribe in Turkey. Join us and listen in! This week on the podcast I have my good friend Julien Leblanc talking me through his story. Julien is a professional MMA fighter with a 5-1 record out of Gatineau Quebec. Coming from the days of being a 16 year old kid who couldn't do a push up to going undefeated as an amateur MMA fighter, winning a Canadian Championship & finishing 5 straight pro MMA fights, Julien's story is one of adversity. Over the past two years he has had 5 fights cancelled in a row and continues to work. This is enough adversity to stop most athletes in their tracks. However, no matter what you are dealing with in your athletic career and no matter how dark things might look... keep working through it. The only way you can succeed is to make sure that no matter when that opportunity comes you are ready for it. On top of this, we talk over what top level athletes bring to sport. Julien's experience working with some of the top MMA athletes in the world and what they all bring to training & performance to continue to be at the level they are. What they bring?* Focusing on performance - Being good in the gym is fine, but the focus needs to be how you perform in competition* Creating opportunities & Taking risks- Dave Leduc developing the sport of Lethwei world wide and creating a name for himself.* Visualization - Building yourself up in your mind. Knowing what you are going to do and building your confidence

Lethwei is an incredibly intense full contact combat sport from Burma that allows punches, kicks, elbows, knees and headbutts. And did I mention that the fighters don't wear gloves and only have a thin layer of gauze over their knuckles? Today's guest is Patrick Marcil who combined Muay Thai, Sanshou, and JKD in order to coach Dave Leduc to World Openweight Lethwei Champion. This chat will be hugely interesting for anyone who follows MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, or is interested in real life self defense!
