We believe that they deserve another moment in the spotlight and we hope you'll enjoy revisiting them as much as I do.Mark your calendars because we'll be back with fresh, new episodes on August 5, 2025. We're excited about the ideas we have in store for you and we can't wait to share them. Here is Day 1 of the 2024 symposium with the Fierce Leader of the My Sexy Business Team and Community - Kim WhitWhat if the key to feeling younger, more energetic, and healthier was simpler than we thought? When Kim White found herself battling constant exhaustion, unexplained pain, and feeling "old" before her time, she knew something had to change. After watching the documentary "Game Changer," she decided to try plant-based eating – a decision that would transform her health and vitality in ways she never imagined possible.Kim's journey wasn't about weight loss or following trends – it was about survival. Together with her husband (a self-proclaimed "meatitarian" who surprised her by joining completely), they discovered that within just weeks of eliminating meat, dairy, and eggs, their bodies began to transform. Morning aches vanished, afternoon energy crashes disappeared, and that uncomfortable "rock gut" feeling after meals became a distant memory. Most surprisingly, her husband effortlessly lost 100 pounds without counting calories or feeling deprived.Throughout our conversation, Kim dispels common misconceptions about plant-based eating. Far from feeling hungry or restricted, she describes a lifestyle where they "eat all they want" while enjoying improved satiation. She shares practical strategies like batch cooking beans and rice weekly, using vegetable broth instead of oil for sautéing, creating quick "throw together" meals for busy days, and even making homemade plant-based cheeses that taste better than dairy versions. For those curious but hesitant, Kim offers accessible starting points: begin by noticing how different foods make you feel, try one plant-based meal weekly, or simply explore recipes that sound delicious regardless of labels. Her experience proves that small changes can lead to dramatic improvements in how we feel in our bodies – without deprivation, complicated cooking methods, or breaking the bank.Ready to explore how adding more plants to your plate might transform your own health? Listen now to get inspired by Kim's practical wisdom and infectious enthusiasm for feeling good from the inside out. Have a love-hate relationship with avocados? If so, I don't blame you – I do too. Some days, I'm delighted to cut open an avocado and see a smooth blemish-free interior to enjoy. On other days, I'm utterly disappointed when I cut open one and find a blemished brown and ugly interior, and have to toss it away in disgust. Such a waste of money! But with rising food and gas prices, it's now even more important to know how to stretch our food dollars and make what we buy last longer. And I've discovered ways now to minimize those ‘not-so-good' avocado days. So, let's talk avocados. In this episode, I'll show you how to wisely pick avocados from the store, then how to best store them at home. This way, you can enjoy them more, with less stress and worry about having to use them up fast before they spoil. If you've never tried an avocado before, make sure to listen in too, so you can learn from the get-go how to best buy and store them, and save money and needless frustration in your plant-based diet transition! Type 2 diabetes affects more than 422 million people worldwide, yet many don't realize that it can be reversed with the right approach. This figure comes from the World Health Organization (WHO) and unfortunately, continues to increase. Lewis Bertus, PA-C, is on a mission to change that. As the founder of Diabetes180, Lewis has helped countless individuals transform their health using a low-fat, whole-food, plant-based approach. Featured on the NHA Health Science Podcast with Dr. Frank Sabatino, Lewis shares his groundbreaking methods and personal journey, which combines professional expertise with deeply rooted values. A Holistic Start: From Theology to Medicine Lewis's foundation in holistic health began early, growing up in the Seventh-day Adventist faith, which emphasizes the connection between physical and spiritual well-being. His undergraduate studies in theology further shaped his belief in holistic healing, and his early career in community outreach gave him firsthand experience addressing preventable health challenges. “I grew up understanding that if you nourish the body correctly, it can heal itself,” Lewis said, crediting his upbringing for introducing him to plant-based principles long before they were mainstream. Personal Experience Sparks Professional Mission The inspiration behind Diabetes180 came from a personal challenge—helping his wife reverse her diabetes. Despite following conventional dietary advice and even experimenting with a keto diet, her condition persisted. Frustrated but determined, Lewis dove deep into research and implemented a low-fat, whole-food, plant-based diet. “Within six weeks, her blood sugar normalized,” Lewis shared. “Her success became the catalyst for what is now the Diabetes180 program.” Breaking Down Diabetes: Addressing the Root Cause Contrary to popular belief, Lewis explained, type 2 diabetes isn't caused by carbohydrates. Instead, he highlighted how excess dietary fat creates insulin resistance. Excess dietary fat creates a barrier that prevents insulin from effectively delivering glucose into the cells. By focusing on a low-fat, whole-food, plant-based diet, clients in the Diabetes180 program can significantly enhance their insulin sensitivity and take meaningful steps toward reversing diabetes. The Diabetes180 Program: A Path to Transformation Lewis's three-month program offers a comprehensive approach to reversing diabetes, focusing on: Dietary Transition: Guidance on adopting a low-fat, plant-based diet. Mindset Coaching: Practical tools for managing stress and fostering a positive outlook. Exercise Recommendations: Customized plans incorporating both aerobic and resistance training. Lewis's wife, a former diabetic, co-leads the program, bringing personal insight and emotional support to clients navigating similar journeys. Tackling Sugar Cravings and Integrating Fasting Addressing sugar cravings effectively requires a complete dietary reset, as gradual changes often prove less successful. The program also incorporates intermittent fasting as a powerful strategy for clients with persistent insulin resistance. By synchronizing eating patterns with natural circadian rhythms, fasting promotes faster recovery and supports improved metabolic health. Bridging the Gap Between Patients and Physicians One of the biggest challenges Lewis faces is overcoming the widespread misconception that carbohydrates cause diabetes. By educating clients—and sometimes their physicians—on the science of insulin resistance, Lewis helps pave the way for sustainable health improvements. Lewis ensures that clients understand his role as a supportive coach and resource, complementing the care provided by their primary healthcare team rather than replacing it. This collaborative approach empowers clients to make lifestyle changes while maintaining the guidance of their existing medical professionals. Ready to Reverse Diabetes? In this episode of Vedge Your Best, we're joined by William Smith from Plant-Based Cambridge and Plant-Based Universities. Plant-Based Cambridge is a student-led climate campaign calling for the University of Cambridge to follow its own scientific research and transition to 100% plant-based catering. The Plant-Based Universities project aims to address the climate crisis by urging the world's leading educational institutions to reject the emissions and injustices caused by animal agriculture. Transitioning to a plant-based food system could reduce greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural production in high-income countries by 61%, while also freeing up 76% of global farmland for rewilding. The campaign focuses on: - Promoting the benefits of a plant-based diet. - Demonstrating how plant-based catering can be equitable and accessible to all. - Collaborating with universities to implement fair and sustainable food systems. Plant-Based University campaigns are active in nearly 50 UK and international universities, uniting students to demand meaningful climate action from their institutions. In this conversation, William shares the ambitious work of these organizations in promoting plant-based diets and sustainable practices among university communities. From grassroots activism to practical tips for driving meaningful change, this episode is a must-listen for anyone passionate about plant-based advocacy, education, and environmental action. ---In This Episode: 1. How William became involved in plant-based activism. 2. The mission of Plant-Based Cambridge: Building a supportive community for plant-based living in Cambridge and beyond. 3. Plant-Based Universities: Strategies for engaging students, faculty, and administrators in adopting plant-based policies and practices. 4. The power of grassroots movements: Inspiring stories of impact and change within the university system. 5. Today I discuss my view on plant-based diets by looking at different systematic reviews comparing nutrient intakes of plant-based eaters versus omnivores, plus the impact of such diets on cardiovascular disease deaths and another looking at mental health outcomes. I also report on recent research comparing the cost of these diets as well. This is often a highly charged emotional debate, and lots of studies in this area have inherent biases. We know that some older studies sponsored by the meat and diary industry were flawed, as are quite a few modern studies on plant-based diets. Systematic reviews tend to weed out these weaker studies and combine the data from lots of different studies to get a clearer picture. Here's the paper on the cost of the diets.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode #308. How would Jesus kill an animal? Join me as I sit down with filmmakers Kip Andersen and Kameron Waters to discuss their position on how religion and veganism intersect. Whether you are religious or not, there are many interesting points raised to reflect on further. In their new documentary Christspiracy, Kip and Kameron pose the question: is there a spiritual way to kill an animal? In this episode, they argue what they believe to be the accurate interpretation of what the Bible says about animal liberation, taking us on a journey of what the concept of dominion truly means. We discuss a 2000-year-old cover-up, whether eating meat as a Christian is hypocritical, the truth about regenerative agriculture, and much more.
