It's hard to believe that this is the 500th episode of this little podcast called Guerrilla Christianity. As I write this, I'm sitting in a hotel room in Arlington, TX, on a training trip for Amazon, and I thought it would be a good idea to commemorate this event with a special episode in which I pontificate, ruminate, and reflect upon eleven seasons, ten and a half years of ministry, and five hundred episodes of preaching the gospel. Recorded at Residence Inn, Arlington, TX on January 21, 2024 S.D.G.

I am super excited to share this episode with visual artist, Laura Payne. Laura and I have an exciting discussion around ideas of multiple dimensions and how to express the feeling of these other dimensional spaces on a 2-D surface. We talk about her process and how important it is to just show up and get to work in the studio. Laura touches upon how her way of understanding her work has changed a lot recently, especially in the wake of reading the book “The Creative Act: A Way Of Being” by Rick Rubin. Laura and I also talk about the power of intuition and how hard it can be to embrace but how ultimately crucial it is. ------------------------------ Laura Payne (b. 1987, Ottawa) is a visual artist based in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada. She received her BFA from the University of Western Ontario in 2010, and her MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. But that was before Smith strode onto the stage at the Academy Awards in March and slapped comedian Chris Rock, who had made a joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Will Smith, who also won best actor that night, has since surrendered his membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and has been banned from attending any Academy-related events, including the Oscar telecast, for the next decade. Now Apple finds itself left with a $120 million unreleased awards-style movie featuring a star no longer welcome at the biggest award show of them all and a big question: Can the film, even if it succeeds artistically, overcome the baggage that now accompanies Smith? According to three people involved with the film who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the company's planning, there have been discussions inside Apple to release “Emancipation” by the end of the year, which would make it eligible for awards consideration. Variety reported in May, however, that the film's release would be pushed into 2023. When asked for this article how and when it planned to release “Emancipation,” Apple declined to comment. “Emancipation,” directed by Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”) and with a script by William Collage, is based on the true story of a slave known as “Whipped Peter,”who joined the Union Army while still in the South. Apple set up a general audience test screening of “Emancipation” in Chicago earlier this year, according to three people with knowledge of the event who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not permitted to discuss it publicly. They said it generated an overwhelmingly positive reaction, specifically for Smith's performance, which one of the people called “volcanic.” Audience members, during the after-screening feedback, said they were not turned off by Smith's recent public behavior. Smith largely disappeared from public view following the Oscars. But in July, he released a video on his YouTube channel in which he said he was “deeply remorseful” for his behavior and apologized directly to Rock and his family. Next Article Topic: Apple's Eye-Catching New Home Disrupts Silicon Valley Things change when a spaceship comes to town. Tourists stroll by, whipping out their iPhones to get a photo. New businesses move in. And real estate prices go up even more. Apple's new home in Cupertino — the centerpiece being a $5 billion, four-story, 2.8 million-square-foot ring that can be seen from space and that locals call the spaceship — is still getting some final touches, and employees have just started to trickle in. The full squadron, about 12,000 people, will arrive in several months. But the development of the headquarters, a 175-acre area officially called Apple Park, has already helped transform the surrounding area. In Sunnyvale, a town just across the street, 95 development projects are in the planning stages. The city manager, Deanna J. Santana, said she had never seen such action before. In Cupertino, a Main Street Cupertino living and dining complex opened in early 2016. This downtown enclave includes the Lofts, a 120-unit apartment community opening this fall; small shops; and numerous restaurants and cafes. Other local businesses are also gearing up in anticipation. A Residence Inn at Main Street Cupertino, expected to open in September, has been slightly customized to meet the needs of Apple employees. Guests will have access to Macs and high-speed internet connections, said Mark Lynn, a partner with Sand Hill Hotel Management, which operates the hotel and consulted with Apple about what its employees need at a hotel. “All the things we have, lined up with what they needed,” Lynn said. “They will represent a large part of our business.” Tech companies are nothing new for Cupertino. Apple has called the city home for decades, and Hewlett-Packard had a campus in Apple's new spot, employing 9,000 people. The surrounding towns have been remade as well in the last decade, as giant tech companies have transformed Silicon Valley's real estate into some of the most expensive in the country. But city officials and residents say this project is like nothing they've seen before. It is even bringing tourists. Onlookers snap pictures of the spaceship from the streets. TV helicopters circle above. Amateur photographers ask residents if they can stand on driveways to operate their drones, hoping to get a closer look at Apple Park. “I just say, ‘Hey, go ahead,'” said Ron Nielsen, who lives in Birdland, a Sunnyvale neighborhood across the street from the spaceship. “Why not?” Source: https://paper.udn.com/udnpaper/POH0067/315730/web/ Next Article Topic: New Apple Watch heralds ‘smart healthcare' revolution for aging societies The new model iPhone was released mid-last month to a somewhat muted reaction from the market. However, at the same event Apple Inc also released an updated Apple Watch, called the Apple Watch Series 4, which showed that the company is working furiously behind the scenes to break into a new field, as it quietly builds an eco-system around “smart healthcare.” Due to the importance of safeguarding human life, the entry threshold into the healthcare market is high, but the potential rewards are significant. As humans live longer, we are becoming ever more reliant on technology and artificial intelligence as a means to look after our health. The definition of “smart healthcare” is extremely broad. Starting with the da Vinci surgical robot, already on the market for over a decade, the area now includes specialist fields such as the automatic transfer of patient blood pressure monitoring data to hospitals and AI-assisted artificial gene synthesis (gene printing), which is able to rapidly compile DNA sequences and produce biopharmaceuticals. While attending a discussion forum by the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taiwan last month, major pharmaceutical company Merck & Co predicted that revenue from AI-related health care alone — which currently stands at about US$600 million — will grow to around US$20 billion by 2026. Furthermore, AI constitutes just one small piece of the overall smart healthcare market. Humanity is on the cusp of an imminent medical care crisis. According to US research, there is a positive correlation between the patient-to-nurse ratio and patient mortality rate: For every additional patient that a nurse has to care for, the 30-day mortality rate for hospitalized patients increases by 7 percent. As a result of various background factors, “smart healthcare” will be an unstoppable force in the future. As such, global manufacturers, whether involved in communications, machinery, pharmaceuticals or consumer technology, are all getting involved, and Apple naturally wants to claim a piece of the pie for itself. At last month's launch of the updated Apple Watch, Apple revealed that the device now supports a heart rate monitor and wrist sensor and represents a significant step forward for the wearable device. Previously, the watch was only able to record a wearer's heart rate, but the technology has been upgraded so that Apple Watch can now monitor a user's heart condition in a way that provides real medical value. In addition to the above new hardware functionality, Apple is also building a health eco-system. Last year, Apple embarked on a partnership with Stanford University Medical Center to found the Apple Heart Study program, which uses Apple Watch to collect large amounts of data on heart rate activity from volunteers. This year Apple has signed agreements with more than 90 hospitals across the US so that patients can use their mobile phones to access their own medical records, making it possible for users to bring their medical history with them wherever they go. If the results are successful, it may well create a snowball effect and spread to other medical institutions. Source article: http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/lang/archives/2018/10/09/2003701979/2

Monday moves majestically, meandering more mysteriously, making many mighty memories. Maybe. Or it's another day like any other as we all spend time inhabiting a world that alternates constantly between light and dark. However, Charlottesville Community Engagement is not a tribute to the poetic but is more concerned with the anecdotal and the wonky. I'm Sean Tubbs until I am not. On today's program:* Albemarle Supervisors will hold a special meeting Wednesday perhaps to purchase property* We learn from the county executive's office that there's a new disc golf course in Albemarle* The Commonwealth Transportation Board will meet in Charlottesville tomorrow* The Greenbrier Neighborhood Association has held the second of several candidate forums for three Democratic nominations for City Council New to this? Sign up to get this in your inbox when its produced. Payment encouraged but not mandatory, but paying the bills is mandatory for continued publication!First shout-out: Camp AlbemarleToday's first subscriber-supported public service announcement goes out to Camp Albemarle, which has for sixty years been a “wholesome rural, rustic and restful site for youth activities, church groups, civic events and occasional private programs.”Located on 14 acres on the banks of the Moorman's River near Free Union, Camp Albemarle continues as a legacy of being a Civilian Conservation Corps project that sought to promote the importance of rural activities. Camp Albemarle seeks support for a plan to winterize the Hamner Lodge, a structure built in 1941 by the CCC and used by every 4th and 5th grade student in Charlottesville and Albemarle for the study of ecology for over 20 years. If this campaign is successful, Camp Albemarle could operate year-round. Consider your support by visiting campalbemarleva.org/donate.Albemarle purchasing land on Wednesday? The next regular meeting of the Albemarle Board of Supervisors is not until June, but the six members will meet in closed session this Wednesday. Virginia's open meetings laws allow for elected bodies to discuss certain matters without the public present. The notice for the May 24 meeting at 1 p.m. cites two provisions of the state code. (view the agenda) The first is “to discuss or consider the acquisition of real property in the Rivanna Magisterial District.” The second is “to consult with and be briefed by legal counsel regarding specific legal matters requiring legal advice relating to such acquisition.” Immediately after the closed session, Supervisors will vote on a resolution to authorize purchase of property and assets. There are no further details but Supervisors will convene in Room 241 after this vote to hold a media briefing. Albemarle Executive report: New disc golf course at Chris Greene Lake, HARTS team in placeIn Virginia, a locality's top manager actually performs the business of government and is responsible for executive actions. In Charlottesville that's interim City Manager Michael C. Rogers. In Albemarle that is County Executive Jeff Richardson. Often reports on what's happening are made to the elected body. On May 17, Albemarle Supervisors got a report from Trevor Henry, the Deputy County Administrator. They learned there is now a new 18-hole disc golf course at Chris Greene Lake.“The development of this new amenity in the northern part of the county was a successful partnership between Parks and Recreation by providing the space and in-kind services and the Blue Ridge Disc Golf Club whose members devoted 1,100 volunteer hours to construct the course,” Henry said. Henry also said graduate students at the University of Virginia School of Architecture are working with the county have helped with the creation of a Regional Digital Equity Plan that is being developed by the Broadband and Accessibility Office.“This is in partnership with community organizations, the city of Charlottesville, and [the University of Virginia],” Henry said. “Their analysis resulted in several key recommendations that the coalition will incorporate into their final plan.”To learn more about that project, here's the March meeting of the Coalition:Henry also had news about the Human Services Alternative Response Team that Albemarle is putting together. The HARTS Team is intended to answer calls where a person is believed to be having a mental health crisis. “The team has been formed and will be adjusting to responses based on each situation to ensure the safety and best outcomes for individuals involved,” Henry said. “As they are forming, they are beginning training and developing protocols to implement the co-responder model. That work will continue with procedures and training as they become operational and start responding to mental health calls for service.” Henry also reported on the results of an archaeological study from materials uncovered at the location of the former Swan Tavern in Court Square in Charlottesville. That's the site of the future General District Court that will be jointly used by both the city and Albemarle County. “These artifacts include a Moravian press pipe, bowls, antique glass bottles and more,” Henry said. “This project is a good reminder for the important of preserving our county's history. The artifacts that were uncovered during this dig period are being cleaned and catalogued and we expect a final report by the end of this calendar year.” CTB to meet in Charlottesville this weekThe body that approves funding across the Commonwealth of Virginia will meet this week at the Residence Inn on West Main Street in Charlottesville, steps away from a now-canceled project. The Commonwealth Transportation Board will begin with a workshop at 8:30 a.m. that will feature a large amount of state-wide business. One item to watch is a discussion on the fifth round of Smart Scale, which is a mechanism that helps decide what transportation projects are funded. (workshop agenda) The CTB will make a final decision in June, but here are three area projects currently in the running:* Avon Street Multimodal Improvements (only for the Druid Avenue to Avon Court section) – $15.8 million (Charlottesville-Albemarle MPO)* US 250/Peter Jefferson Parkway Intersection Improvements, Park and Ride, and Access Management – $20.55 million (Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission) * Belvedere Boulevard/Rio Road Intersection Improvements – $4.89 million (Albemarle County)On Wednesday is the action meeting unless the workshop on Tuesday finishes early. Opportunity for public comments is taken at this meeting. (action meeting agenda)The CTB meeting is just steps away from what had been Phase 1 of the West Main Streetscape. Charlottesville had slowly assembled money for a nearly $50 million project to be built in four phases, but canceled them last year in order to put the local match toward the renovation and expansion of Buford Middle School. The event began with opening statements beginning with Dashad Cooper who was unable to attend the May 10 event I co-hosted with Neil Williamson of the Free Enterprise Forum. (view that event)“As a Council member, I believe it is crucial that we have an open and honest discussion about the vision of Charlottesville, and I'm here to share my vision,” Cooper said. “Together I believe we can work towards a solution that would benefit all members of society.” Cooper is a social services assistant who said he sees many people struggling with mental health issues who are affected by increases in rent. “I think mental health has been overlooked for far, far too long and the pandemic has put the mental health at the forefront and the people need help now,” Cooper said. Former City Councilor Bob Fenwick used much of the same opening statement he made at the May 10 forum but leaned in with his skepticism of the city's ability to provide solutions for one intractable problem. “The notion that affordable housing can be addressed with yet another program without better management, including adequate funding for all of the peripherals that go with it is very much in the air,” Fenwick said. Fenwick said the big issues he is hearing about are the zoning code rewrite, increased property assessments and public safety. “And the biggest issue tonight is probably going to be the zoning rewrite as well it should be as it hasn't been fully crafted and is virtually incomprehensible,” Fenwick said. Challenger Natalie Oschrin also used much of the same opening statement as the May 10 event but I'll quote different parts from a previous story. She said her primary job has skills that would apply to time on Council. “I've worked in the hospitality industry for over ten years, mostly planning and organizing weddings,” Oschrin said. “As you might imagine there's a lot of coordinating and managing in addition to cajoling and negotiating that needs to happen to pull the event off successfully and within budget.” Oschrin said she supports efforts to build more places to live within the city.“I've worked with a lot of people who have to commute from outlying communities for their job in the city [and] that means close to an hour in the car each way,” Oschrin said. “Our teachers, nurses, firefighters deserve to live in Charlottesville and not be pushed out by high housing costs.” Councilor Michael Payne is seeking his second term and also had many of the same introductory comments. “For those of you who don't know me, I grew up in the area and after college moved back here and worked for Habitat for Humanity of Virginia in affordable housing as well as gotten involved in politics through community organizing with Indivisible Charlottesville and the Charlottesville Low-Income Housing Coalition and have been on Council since January 2020,” Payne said. Payne said the past few years have been difficult for city government but Council has begun to make progress with the adoption of a climate action plan and an affordable housing plan that comes with $10 million a year in funding.“We've started to stabilize city staff and build a strong staff team within the city as well as made historic investments in schools and are moving toward being able to create a regional transit authority to strengthen our bus system,” Payne said. Charlottesville Mayor Lloyd Snook also addressed many of the same themes as the May 10 opening statement beginning with a general slogan for his campaign in 2019.“My overall slogan was ‘Let's Work Together' and ‘Let's Try to Make Charlottesville Work again,” Snook said.Snook said he and Payne both voted to adopt that affordable housing plan in March 2021 and they worked together to identify the funds to invest in the renovation and expansion of Buford Middle School. He said he wants four more years to ensure that work is completed. “Not only make sure that Buford gets finished but also start thinking about the next step in the school reconfiguration process,” Snook said. “That's to look at Walker and the elementary schools. In his opening statement, Snook pointed out that many of Fenwick's critiques of the zoning code were inaccurate given that a final draft has not been presented to Council yet. But that was before Smith strode onto the stage at the Academy Awards in March and slapped comedian Chris Rock, who had made a joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. 史密斯是「解放」(暫譯)的主角,這部設定於南北戰爭期間的電影今年初拍攝殺青時,蘋果視為奧斯卡必勝參賽者,但那是在3月的奧斯卡頒獎典禮前。史密斯在典禮時走上舞台,掌摑喜劇演員克里斯洛克,因為他開了史密斯妻子、潔達蘋姬史密斯的玩笑。 Will Smith, who also won best actor that night, has since surrendered his membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and has been banned from attending any Academy-related events, including the Oscar telecast, for the next decade. 威爾史密斯那晚贏得最佳男主角獎,那之後他退回美國影藝學院會員資格,且被禁止未來十年參加所有學院相關活動,包括奧斯卡獎。 Now Apple finds itself left with a $120 million unreleased awards-style movie featuring a star no longer welcome at the biggest award show of them all and a big question: Can the film, even if it succeeds artistically, overcome the baggage that now accompanies Smith? 現在蘋果發現,它花1.2億美元拍攝這部符合奧斯卡得獎風格的未上映電影,片中明星在這個最大獎項會場卻已不再受歡迎。一個很大問題是:即使在藝術上成功了,這部電影如今能夠克服史密斯帶來的包袱嗎? According to three people involved with the film who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the company's planning, there have been discussions inside Apple to release “Emancipation” by the end of the year, which would make it eligible for awards consideration. Variety reported in May, however, that the film's release would be pushed into 2023. 要求匿名談論蘋果公司計畫的三名參與電影人士說,蘋果內部曾討論在今年底前上映「解放」,好讓電影符合獎項考慮資格。然而,「綜藝」雜誌5月報導,電影上映可能推遲到2023年。 When asked for this article how and when it planned to release “Emancipation,” Apple declined to comment. 當被問到計畫如何及何時上映「解放」時,蘋果拒絕置評。 “Emancipation,” directed by Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”) and with a script by William Collage, is based on the true story of a slave known as “Whipped Peter,”who joined the Union Army while still in the South. 「解放」由「震撼教育」導演安東尼法奎執導,編劇為比爾克爾吉,根據一名叫做「鞭傷彼得」的奴隸,在南方加入聯邦軍的真實故事改編。 Apple set up a general audience test screening of “Emancipation” in Chicago earlier this year, according to three people with knowledge of the event who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not permitted to discuss it publicly. They said it generated an overwhelmingly positive reaction, specifically for Smith's performance, which one of the people called “volcanic.” Audience members, during the after-screening feedback, said they were not turned off by Smith's recent public behavior. 根據三名知曉活動、但不被允許公開談論此事而匿名的人士表示,蘋果今年初在芝加哥進行一場針對一般大眾的「解放」試映。他們說,電影得到驚人的正面反應,特別是史密斯的演技,有人形容為「有如火山爆發」。在試映結束後的觀眾回饋中,有人說他們不會因為史密斯最近的公開行為而討厭他。 Smith largely disappeared from public view following the Oscars. But in July, he released a video on his YouTube channel in which he said he was “deeply remorseful” for his behavior and apologized directly to Rock and his family. 奧斯卡獎典禮後,史密斯幾乎自公眾目光中消失。但他7月在自己的YouTube頻道上傳一段影片,表示對自己的行為「深感悔恨」,並直接向洛克及其家人道歉。 Next Article Topic: Apple's Eye-Catching New Home Disrupts Silicon Valley Things change when a spaceship comes to town. Tourists stroll by, whipping out their iPhones to get a photo. New businesses move in. And real estate prices go up even more. 當太空船來到城裡,許多事情都變了。遊客在這裡流連,迅速拿出iPhone拍照。新商家進駐。房地產價格漲得更高。 Apple's new home in Cupertino — the centerpiece being a $5 billion, four-story, 2.8 million-square-foot ring that can be seen from space and that locals call the spaceship — is still getting some final touches, and employees have just started to trickle in. The full squadron, about 12,000 people, will arrive in several months. But the development of the headquarters, a 175-acre area officially called Apple Park, has already helped transform the surrounding area. 蘋果公司在加州古柏迪諾市的新家——核心是耗資50億美元(合台幣約1500億元),面積280萬平方英尺(約7萬9000坪)的4層樓環狀建物,能從太空中看到,當地人稱為太空船——仍處在最後裝修階段,員工才剛開始陸續遷入。總計1萬2000人將在數月內入駐。 不過,蘋果新總部修建已推動周邊地區的變化。新總部占地175英畝(約21萬坪),正式名稱是蘋果園區。 In Sunnyvale, a town just across the street, 95 development projects are in the planning stages. 林恩說:「我們所有事物都配合蘋果員工的需求,他們會在我們業務中占很大比重。」 對古柏迪諾而言,科技公司並不新鮮。蘋果把這個城市當成家已有數十年,而蘋果新總部所在地曾是惠普一個雇用9000人的園區。過去10年,古柏迪諾周遭城鎮的風貌也翻新了,因為科技巨頭已使矽谷轉變為全美房地產最貴的地方之一。 But city officials and residents say this project is like nothing they've seen before. “Why not?” 但城市官員和居民說,蘋果園區跟他們看過的其他開發案不一樣。園區甚至帶來了遊客。 遊客在街頭拍攝太空船的照片。電視台的直升機在它上方盤旋。業餘攝影師問居民可否站在他們的私家車道上操作無人機,以便更近一點看看蘋果園區。 尼爾森住在桑尼維爾市伯德蘭德地區,就在太空船對街,他說:「我就說,『好啊,行』,為什麼不可以呢?」 Source: https://paper.udn.com/udnpaper/POH0067/315730/web/ Next Article Topic: New Apple Watch heralds ‘smart healthcare' revolution for aging societies The new model iPhone was released mid-last month to a somewhat muted reaction from the market. 新款iPhone在上個月中發表,市場反應是無甚驚奇。不過從同場發表的Apple Watch,可看出蘋果已在另一個領域鴨子划水,悄悄建起了生態系「智慧醫療」。因為人命關天,這是一個門檻極高的市場,但商機也很大,尤其在人類壽命愈來愈長的未來,勢必仰賴更多科技和人工智慧來照顧我們的健康。 The definition of “smart healthcare” is extremely broad. 智慧醫療的定義廣泛,從問世十幾年的達文西手術機器人、將數據自動回傳醫院的血壓機、到基因合成學借助AI及機器學習,能快速編寫DNA序列,製造生物藥劑來治療疾病等等。國際大藥廠默克上個月來台出席工研院產業創新論壇時就估計,目前光是與AI相關的醫療保健產值,全球約六億美元,二零二六年將達兩百億美元;而AI不過是智慧醫療的一小塊領域。 Humanity is on the cusp of an imminent medical care crisis. According to US research, there is a positive correlation between the patient-to-nurse ratio and patient mortality rate: For every additional patient that a nurse has to care for, the 30-day mortality rate for hospitalized patients increases by 7 percent. 人類面臨的醫療窘境,已迫在眉睫。美國研究指出,每位護理師照顧的病人數,和病人死亡率呈現正相關:護理師每多照顧一名病人,病人住院三十天的死亡風險增加百分之七。 As a result of various background factors, “smart healthcare” will be an unstoppable force in the future. 在種種背景下,智慧醫療是必然之勢;因此全球廠商不論其專長是通訊、機械、製藥或3C,都在積極投入,蘋果當然也不缺席。上個月發表的Apple Watch,能支援心律檢測及手腕感應,這讓穿戴裝置邁進了一大步,從以往只能記錄心跳幾下,升級到可監測具有醫療價值的心律狀況。 In addition to the above new hardware functionality, Apple is also building a health eco-system. 蘋果不只推出上述的硬體新功能,也在建構生態系。去年它和史丹佛醫學中心合作啟動「Apple Heart Study」計畫,透過Apple Watch收集自願者的心律大數據。今年又與全美逾九十家醫院簽約,病人可透過手機看到自己的醫療紀錄,落實病歷帶著走。若成效良好,未來很可能產生滾雪球效應,擴及更多醫療機構。 Source article: http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/lang/archives/2018/10/09/2003701979/2 Powered by Firstory Hosting
Today you are going to a little bit of real talk with Heidi. Maybe because I am on night 3 of a hotel to MYSELF while I'm at a conference or maybe I shouldn't have had that second cup of coffee (by the way if you like Real Talk with Heidi version, feel free to support this buying me a coffee) Either way, I wanted to give families a valuable way to use travel rewards to supplement their travel budget, traveling longer, farther - let's just say it's one of my favorite optimization strategies AND after 2 people it gets much more difficult - you even heard Chris Hutchins from All the Hacks say it on episode 092. The game is harder to play with more people. And I'll just say it, the content out there for families is eh. I don't think you need to pay thousands of dollars to follow someone's system. Once you learn the rules of the game you just need a reliable source to ask questions and find the answers you need. I also don't think everyone needs to take online courses to understand how points and systems work. Many of those groups want you to use their links so that they get all the referral bonus points. Just for the record, I'm not opposed to any of those things, people can make money doing things they are good at and I know that many use the referral and affiliate links to fund their work. I just think there is a better way to support YOU through this - what can I say, we are sherpas helping families adventure. I think families need a fair shot at the travel rewards game. Part of the challenge with travel hacking is that the rules change often. It takes time to understand and let's be frank - we don't have time to scurry down the rabbit hole of travel rewards. For this episode I am going to highlight some of the travel hacking resources I have and walk through three examples of how we recently used travel rewards. I also am announcing a FREE Live Family Travel Hackers Q/A Session so stick around and make sure to register to get EVEN more tips. First to highlight some of my previous content: On episode 018 | Travel Rewards tips with Melissa Lagerquist. We talk about some of the basic terminology, approaches and ways she has used points to hack cruises. Full disclosure - Melissa is connected to the Choose FI Travel Rewards course. If you want to go down the rabbit hole that free course is where I started when it was launched probably close to 5 years ago. On episode 019 | Our approach to travel rewards I walk through our strategy and I give you a free downloadable planning guide to help you through the process. That is available at: https://ordinarysherpa.com/rewards/ Episode 032 | How to Fly a family of 5 to Hawaii for under $500 I dive deep into Southwest Companion Pass which we have had for 4 years straight. We are not renewing next year because we will be traveling in the RV next year and as you will soon hear we have a different strategy. Episode 070 | Hacks to Optimize Family Experiences without Sacrificing Value offers an updated approach to how I plan our summer vacations in particular. We also reference travel hacking in episode 084 with Ed Tee adventuring near and far; Episode 040 Interim Expat with Scott Barrett, and Episode 077 | Funding the Fun with Jen of Investor Mama. The DIY approach to learning travel hacking can seem like an uphill slog. I may have said on more than one occasion “Can someone just tell me what to do?!” Stick around until the end to get the link to register for our Free Family Travel Hacker LIVE Q/A. Tonight I wanted to share a few behind the curtain tips to help you travel more for less. Hawaii flights for 5 for under $300 It's no secret here that we used 2 Southwest Companion Passes. RIGHT NOW is the best time to start earning the Southwest Companion Pass to give you the maximum amount of time where one person flies free with you (-$5.50 per flight in taxes and fees). If you have ANY questions about earning the Companion Pass make sure to sign up for my Free Q/A! Many people tell you to design your strategy based on a destination you want to travel to. That is one approach, but I also like to think about the experience. From Wisconsin to Hawaii is 8+ hours of flying, and direct flights don't exist. Instead of designing this trip to be a long-haul with 3 kids, we broke it up into smaller segments which meant we also had so many more options on what that experience could look like and created a schedule that worked best for our family. Instead of looking for fare sales from our home airport of Milwaukee, I look for routes to our destination and work backwards. Our route was Milwaukee-San Jose (staying a night in San Jose and making a mini-vacation of it), from San Jose to Kona (big island) for 5 nights, from Hilo (Big Island) to Honolulu (Oahu) for 4 nights, from Honolulu to Kahului (maui) for 5 nights, from Maui to Los Angeles for 2 nights, and from Los Angeles back to Milwaukee for 3 nights. In many ways it felt like we had 5 different vacations. Now that might seem much longer in terms of days and number of flights overall that you want to spend, but keep in mind we were on 3 islands and planes are really the easiest way to get between them. Because we had utilized the best fares and designed an experience, the total number of points needed for this entire itinerary was 60,168. Because we had 2 companion passes we only needed this number of points for 3 of our family members (which was 180,504). Because both my husband and I had attained Companion Passes we earned over 240,000 points (at the time the requirement was only 120,000). Part of the reason I like Southwest is because they use a standard formula based on price/points as opposed to dynamic points systems that are difficult to figure out how many points you need to earn to redeem your family flights. Harry Potter World (tickets and hotel) for $0. This was a recent “can we do it challenge.” that we booked for 2023. Universal Orlando (which is where Harry Potter World is Housed) often offers a 2-day+2 Day Promo (PS. It's still happening right now for travel before March 2, 2023 if you are interested). We used a travel eraser card like the Capital One Venture X card. We bought the tickets through Undercover Tourist (which was just under $1,500 for a family of 5 for 4 days) and then were able to wipe that travel expense out with points. There are general rules of thumb, often a point equals a $.01 so in this case would be 150,000 points. I can go into much more detail on how we reach those minimum spends and when we apply for credit cards as a part of our regular family budget on the Q/A call. I did some research into what hotel works best for our family in the area and I'll jump into that in a bit below. Ultimately we landed on Cabana Bay Beach Resort and used the Chase Ultimate Rewards to pay for our hotel. It doesn't always make sense for us to use reward points for hotels and car rentals. I can go into much more detail on what we look for and when it makes sense to pay for accommodations/transportation to earn bonus categories vs. when it makes sense to use rewards if you want to have insight into my brain and how we approach this. Best Hotel-hacking options for larger families. Hotels in general can be tricky for families. As your kids get older it's not as easy to coordinate sleeping arrangements. We have found several specific hotels within the various hotel families. As a family of 5 hotels in general are harder. As I was finding the right formula for our family I would look at things like: was there free parking or free shuttle to the airport? Could we make a meal in the room? Was there free breakfast or perks with hotel status that we could optimize? Usually the selling factor for the kids, is there a pool? Within the 3 major families of hotel Marriot, IHG, and Hilton there are several branches that offer options for families. Three of our favorites are: Residence Inn or Springhill Suites by Marriott Embassy Suites by Hilton Hyatt House or Hyatt Place by IHG And if I am paying cash I appreciate Comfort Suites. As I alluded to at the start of this episode, travel rewards can be overwhelming and the content out there is not always geared towards families of 3 or more. But do you know that the radio station celebrates puzzles? In fact, on Saturday, August 27, WTJU is organizing the Cville Puzzle Hunt, a huge, cerebral puzzle that will spool out across downtown Charlottesville. The Cville Puzzle Hunt will take you and a team of friends on a wild afternoon running around trying to untangle five diabolical, large-scale puzzles inserted into the urban landscape. The opening clue will be read at 1 p.m. at the Ix Art Park. Find out more about this WTJU-organized event at cvillepuzzlehunt.com. Regional Housing Partnership endorses Piedmont Housing Alliance’s application to build affordable housing at two UVA sitesThe Central Virginia Regional Housing Partnership is a function of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission and consists of elected officials, representatives from nonprofits, and developers. Last year they developed the Planning for Affordability report intended to suggest strategies for each of the six localities to create more below-market housing opportunities. (read that plan)On Wednesday, the group convened for one purpose. For background, the University of Virginia and its real estate foundation are offering land through a ground lease at three sites in the community for a partner to construct affordable housing. They issued a request for qualifications in June to develop sites on Fontaine Avenue and Wertland Street. (agenda packet)There was a pre-proposal presentation on June 22 led by Fred Missel, the director of development for the UVA Foundation. In a separate capacity, Missel is also a member of the Albemarle Planning Commission. Wednesday’s partnership meeting was to vote on an endorsement of the Piedmont Housing Alliance’s desire to lead a large group of partners to develop the two sites.“We have pulled together a largely local team of nonprofits and one for profit organization to come together to ideally provide a holistic housing ladder with a holistic set of viewpoints to make sure we are being responsive to the needs not just within those two sites,” said Sunshine Mathon, the executive director of the Piedmont Housing Alliance. That for profit developer would be Riverbend Development, which has assisted the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority with its recent redevelopment efforts. Another partner would be the Virginia Community Development Corporation and another would be 7 and M Development. A letter in the RHP agenda packet includes more details. “The development team is partnering to design, build, and operate affordable housing on both sites, with a focus on a broad array of housing opportunities, focused on rental housing for people earning 30 to 60 percent of area median income, but also including more deeply affordable rental housing, affordable homeownership opportunities, market rate housing, community amenities, and commercial space,” reads the letter. However, many of the partnership members had to recuse themselves from the vote out of conflicts of interest. That included:Dan Rosensweig of the Habitat for Humanity of Greater CharlottesvilleSunshine Mathon of the Piedmont Housing AllianceKeith Smith of the Piedmont Community Land Trust (now part of Piedmont Housing Alliance)Shelby Edwards of the Public Housing Association of Residents Anthony Haro of the Thomas Jefferson Coalition for the HomelessColette Sheehy is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the University of Virginia. She also abstained from the vote but is not part of the development. “That was an impressive list of local organizations involved in this space and I was just curious if you anticipate anybody else out there locally that might propose anything?” Sheehy asked. Mathon said he thought there may be another group.“I think there are probably still one or two organizations which may find their way into a different team but I’m not 100 percent sure,” Mathon said. Those who were able to vote to support the letter were Antwon Brinson of the Piedmont Workforce Network, Greg Powe of Powe Studio Architects, Ned Gallaway of the Albemarle Board of Supervisors, Peter Holman of the University of Virginia Credit Union, Rachel Jones of the Louisa Board of Supervisors, Charlottesville Mayor Lloyd Snook, and Kim Hyland of the Fluvanna-Louisa Housing Foundation.“Seven yes, zero noes, and six abstentions,” said Ian Baxter, a planner with the TJPDC. One of those abstentions was Keith Smith, a realtor and chair of the Piedmont Community Land Trust.“This is what this body was designed to do and this is great stuff,” Smith said. The application is due on August 2. Will there be any other applications? Albemarle hires new registrar from within The Albemarle County Electoral Board has promoted the deputy registrar to serve as the new Director of Elections. Lauren Eddy has worked for the Voter Registration and Elections Office for 17 years, and will succeed Richard “Jake” Washburne, who will be retiring at the end of the month.“I can’t think of anyone more qualified than Lauren to take on this role,” Washburne is quoted in a release.Eddy has been deputy registrar for the past 15 years. She’s a native of Albemarle and is a Virginia Registered Election Official as well as a National Certified Elections/Registration Administrator.Charlottesville Board of Equalization declined all but one assessment appealsIt has now been seven weeks and two day since the Charlottesville Board of Equalization met on May 17 to hear appeals from property owners of their 2022 real estate tax assessments. Eleven were scheduled but one withdrew. The Board affirmed the property assessments in all ten of the cases that were heard. (read the minutes)The owner of an apartment in the Belmont Lofts wanted the BOE to lower the assessment to $265,000 down from the $400,900 for 2022. The Board agreed to lower the amount to $365,000. GIS for this property currently says $364,000. The owner of 409 Park Street in North Downtown sought reduction to $750,000, but the BOE affirmed the $914,800 assessment. The owner of 1010 Peartree Lane in the Locust Grove wanted to have the assessment dropped to $265,650 but the Board affirmed the $323,700 as the fair market value. The owner bought the 0.21 acre property in 1976 for $34,000. HPTMI Corporation owns the Residence Inn on Millmont Street. They argued the fair market value should be $11,547,400 rather than the $14,762,600 for 2022. The BOE disagreed and affirmed the assessment. When the motel was built in 1997, it was assessed at $3,845,500 and steadily increased each year until this year, when the assessment dropped around $1.5 million. The owners of the Omni Hotel withdrew their appeal of the property’s $35.8 million 2022 assessment. Like the Residence Inn, the assessment has been dropped since 2020 due to the pandemic. There’s still an active lawsuit regarding the 2021 assessment. Last year, the Omni sued Charlottesville over what they perceived as an overpayment of taxes. Read an April 2021 story by Tyler Hammel in the Charlottesville Daily Progress. Ludwig Kuttner sought an unspecified reduction for an industrial building at 1155 5th Street NW next to the Willoughby Shopping Center and claimed “appraiser failed to take into consideration the tremendous impact that ‘Covid’ had on all businesses and property owners.” The Board affirmed the assessment of $2,888,500 and said Kuttner presented no new evidence.Kuttner also sought an assessment reduction for the 10,75 acres of the Ix property, a request he has made in the past. This time, he cited the same reason. The property was assessed at nearly $14.4 million and it will stay that way. Read about the 2017 appeal on Charlottesville Tomorrow. The section of the Ix property that is operated as the Ix Park and is rented to Three Notch’d Brewery was assessed at $5.62 million. The BOE affirmed. Kuttner also sought relief for the Terraces at 100-106 West Main Street. The city assessors valued it at $12,690,400 and the Board of Equalization affirmed that amount. The same story can be said about 201 E. Main Street, otherwise known as Central Place. Kuttner made the same argument but the BOE affirmed the $2.83 million assessment for 2022. Kuttner also represented the owners of 301 E. High Street and made the same basic argument about COVID. The Board also affirmed this property. Virginia State Police release 2021 crime report for the Commonwealth The rate of violent crime in Virginia increased in 2021 according to new data from the Virginia State Police. Last week, the agency’s Criminal Justice Information Service’s Data Analysis and Reporting Team (DART) published a report for last year showed an overall increase in murders, forcible sex offenses including rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. “There were 16,823 violent crime offenses reported in 2021 compared to 15,713 violent crime offenses reported in 2020, representing a 7.1 percent increase,” reads a press release on the report. Some of what’s in the report: There were 562 homicides in Virginia in 2021, a 6.4 percent increase. Of that amount, 38.6 percent were men between the ages of 18 and 34. Over $131 million worth of vehicles were stolen in 2021, a 3.8 percent increase. Firearms were used in 82.1 percent of homicides and 48.6 percent of robberies. There were 123 hate crime offenses involving 106 victims in 2021. That’s down 35.3 percent from 2020. These involve either aggravated assault, vandalism, or destruction of property. Fraud offenses were up 8.4 percent in 2021.Not all of the numbers are increasing. The number of burglaries continued to decline with an 8.3 percent drop in 2020. That’s part of a long-time trend. “In 2021, there were 10,464 burglaries and attempted burglaries whereas in 2011 there were 27,872, representing a decreased burglary rate in the last decade from 344.24 to 120.89 per 100,000 population,” reads the summary. Drug arrests were down 46.7 percent, with one major driver being the decriminalization of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. The DART report also breaks down offenses by locality. The Albemarle County Police Department reported 4,191 total offenses and 1,527 arrests. There were no murders or negligent manslaughter, but there were 12 kidnapping incidents, 76 aggravated assaults, 99 burglaries, and 107 stolen vehicles.(page 92 of the .PDF)Charlottesville also reported no murders, but there there were 3,052 offenses tracked. There were 11 kidnappings, 162 aggravated assaults, 127 burglaries, and 155 stolen vehicles. (page 130)There were no murders reported in any of the other localities in the Thomas Jefferson Planning District. The Fluvanna Sheriff’s Office reported four kidnappings, 29 aggravated assaults, 13 burglaries, and 12 stolen vehicles. (page 170)In Greene, there were five kidnappings, 21 aggravated assaults, 12 burglaries and 15 stolen vehicles. (page 186)There were nine kidnappings reported by the Louisa County Sheriff's Office in 2021. There were 21 aggravated assaults, 11 burglaries, and 32 stolen vehicles. (page 223)The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office reported five abductions, 26 aggravated assaults, 49 burglaries, and 18 stolen vehicles (page 241). For instance, so far, I’ve written several segments from the June 21, 2022 meeting of the Charlottesville City Council. Charlottesville’s FY22 surplus likely to increase, June 24, 2022Council makes appointments, but not yet to Planning Commission, June 24, 2022RWSA to vote today on Central Water Line project, June 28, 2022Charlottesville briefed on city-owned property, June 30, 2022Is there room for one more to memorialize, and is it worth it, two and a half weeks later? Yes. Charlottesville City Council has authorized the city’s economic development director to purchase 921 E. Jefferson Street for $1.6 million. Here’s Chris Engel. (read the staff report)“This parcel is four tenths of an acre and is currently used as a 39-space surface parking lot,” Engel said. “Staff recommends purchase as it puts the city in control of an asset that will help with current and future parking capacity issues.” Engel said one reason is to help satisfy the terms of an agreement between Albemarle and Charlottesville related to parking for the joint General District Court that will be built downtown. “Most of that agreement spoke to the creation of a new parking structure that the city was to undertake as part of its agreement with the county,” Engel said. “That project was ultimately canceled as you know last year about this time.” Engel said the agreement allows the city options to provide spaces at either the existing 7th Street surface lot or at Market Street Parking Garage, both owned by city government. He said either would displace existing parkers and this lot would be a replacement.Engel said volume in the Market Street Parking Garage is not at pre-pandemic levels but the city is currently on a waiting list for new monthly pass holders at that structure. If the county chooses 100 spaces at the Market Street garage, Engel said that would crowd out the ability of people to park there on a transient basis. “So you’d in some way be jeopardizing the health of the surrounding business community that relies on those spaces for activity,” Engel said. Engel said this purchase would also make up for the loss of 50 spaces that used to be underneath the Belmont Bridge but won’t be coming back when that project is complete. He said the city will also eventually lose a parking lot with 61 spaces for employees at a site on Levy Avenue owned by the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority. “If we were to add 39 spots we would still have a net loss of parking spaces in and around the downtown area,” Engel said. The current owner of the property is Gewinn Investors III, a firm that bought the land in 1985 for $175,000. The land is currently assessed at $953,000 and the sales price would be over 73 percent above the assessment. In January 2017, the city paid $2.85 million to purchase the corner lot at Market Street and 9th Street for a new parking garage. That transaction was 40.55 percent above assessment at the time. Councilor Michael Payne said the city was wrong to have entered into the agreement with the county, but he said they should be given the 100 spaces in Market Street Garage. “Quite frankly depending on how that’s implemented I don’t think that’s the end of the world but my understanding is that a majority of Council does not agree with that sentiment,” Payne said. However, he said he could support the purchase of this space if it meant keeping the two structures the city owns at the corner lot. “If purchasing this resolves the courts agreement in place of building a 10-million plus and tearing down Lucky 7 and Guadalajara to build a surface lot, it potentially makes sense to me,” Payne said. Engel said he could make no guarantees, but purchasing this lot would delay that outcome. Councilor Brian Pinkston said during his time in office to date, parking has proven to be controversial. “If you talk with folks at the Downtown Mall, they’re like ‘we absolutely need more parking’ and if you talk with other constituencies, they’re like ‘no, you’ve got plenty of parking,’” Pinkston said. Pinkston said he relies on staff to provide recommendations about occupancy and utilization rates. “Grabbing these 39 spaces for lack of a better term and taking advantage of this opportunity to acquire these 39 spaces basically is insurance against future possibilities,” Pinkston said. . Charlottesville Mayor Lloyd Snook said the property would be ready to go for the city’s parking needs for now. That would allow more time to watch trends and collect data on actual usage of the new courts. “Five years from now we decide we don’t in fact need those parking places, I think we will probably have profited from the wait,” Snook said. The vote was 4-1 with Payne against. There is no overall parking plan for the City of Charlottesville, or for Albemarle County. The University of Virginia has a Parking and Transportation Master Plan from 2019 which seeks to manage parking demand. In June, the University of Virginia’s Building and Grounds Committee approved a plan to move forward with a 1,000 space parking garage with a $54 million budget but with no location determined. (UVA committee briefed on new capital projects, June 4, 2022)The current rewrite of the zoning code also provides another opportunity related to parking. The Zoning Diagnostics and Approach Report calls for the reduction of parking requirements in addition to allowing greater residential density throughout the city. I did research all day today. 00:01:29And I want to talk about a little bit. 00:01:34I'm all over the place right now, but I wanted to get into what's happening right now and 00:01:42When something new breaks out that people are freaking out about it saying, oh, wow, you know, this is crazy. For example. 00:01:51Butts in the whole tax-the-rich narrative. 00:01:56And we just had. What did we just have the Pandora papers, right? 00:02:00Something that 00:02:02we all knew, we all know this. We all know that the 00:02:08Wealthy Elites. 00:02:12The wealthy Elites, they all do, this. Should they wrote the system? 00:02:17So when things like this come out and don't get me wrong. I don't believe that every single thing. That happens is a conspiracy. 00:02:26But when you see the sort of things happen, you just go, okay. 00:02:32It's too convenient. 00:02:35What are the actually hiding? 00:02:37What are they actually trying to cover up because that's all it is. 00:02:43And we're in a point in history where, and since the very beginning. 00:02:50Information is everything especially. 00:02:55Especially now where we give so much power to these companies. I stop using Google. 00:03:04because, 00:03:07And I talked about this before, were part of the system. Are we are somewhat lizards cuz we're part of the system or a cog and, and in the whole system regardless of the fact because we're forced to be in that system. We're forced to be in what in Plato's Cave. 00:03:28Right. 00:03:30And we're forced to watch. 00:03:33The Shadows on the wall. 00:03:35And accept that as the truth, except that as end-all-be-all. Whatever is fed to us day after day and then we try to break free from that when you break free from the chains and you go outside of the cave. 00:03:52And you see that there's another world out there and that the Shadows you were seeing. 00:04:00Isn't the real thing you go in to liberate your people. 00:04:04Per se. 00:04:07You're met with some sort of opposing Force, which is exactly what is happening right now. 00:04:15With all the narratives. 00:04:17and, 00:04:19Honestly, I'm at the point in my life where I don't believe. 00:04:23Any. 00:04:25Information that comes out statistics, whatever all. Well these people are meant to report. The good numbers know. It's all different sides of the same coin and we worship these politicians in these people, these false idols and I'm not religious finding means, but the Bible, does it say not to worship false idols. 00:04:53I was going to be carried and 00:04:57Propped, upright, which if you really think about it, this entire system is being propped up. 00:05:03People. 00:05:04Literally kill for their. 00:05:08Political beliefs. 00:05:10and, 00:05:13This ideology that. 00:05:18Of, I Love The Narrative of we need to strip away your freedoms to make you feel safe. 00:05:28There is a psychological effect behind that. 00:05:33where, 00:05:34Okay, let's sacrifice freedom. 00:05:38In order to be safe for the for the greater good, right? For the greater good. 00:05:44and you got to be careful when it comes out because 00:05:47As I always tell people that don't like to. 00:05:50Read history and look into it. 00:05:54Listen, this is the game that they play. 00:05:58and, 00:06:00It's the same cycle. No problem reaction solution brought back every single time. And if you don't, if you don't keep up with it with the stories, his story history doesn't often, it doesn't always repeat but often rhymes. 00:06:18and this week this past week was the Pandora papers that before, that was the Panama papers before, that was another set of 00:06:29It's a distraction on what's truly going on. 00:06:32What I personally feels going on is out there. I think I think our Kelly is talking. I think R.Kelly is naming names. Just, like, when the whole Epstein thing, came out what happened right after that and everybody forgot about it. Why? Because they wanted to this fight or flight? 00:06:56Mentality this fight or flight or I got to, we got to, we got to, there's something dangerous, that one episode. I did the last so episode, I did. 00:07:08Was covid-19 the new religion. 00:07:14There's a quote right now going on. 00:07:17Between you know, who I'm talking about. And I don't want to say because the tech overlords the lizards over at the at the YouTube headquarters, Google headquarters, you know, they're running not a u. I 00:07:31To scan for things and sensor people. And 00:07:35Maybe we are headed to some George, Orwell dystopian future. But even George Orwell didn't fucking believe in capitalism. He was a, he was a socialist. He wanted he preferred the government takeover and again, for what, for the greater. Good are. We're here to protect you. 00:07:53Was the show that Ronald Ronald Reagan said that? 00:07:58The nine most dangerous words. 00:08:01But shit like that. 00:08:03Does flies over people's heads. They completely again, why? Cuz you're not paying attention to the history. They're not paying attention to the books. So long. Why does it matter? 00:08:13It was talk about Nazi Germany in the way that that Hitler control the masses while he wasn't the only one you had stalling you had now you had all these other guys. 00:08:23Before him. And after him, that did essentially the same thing. 00:08:30And they go, they go ignored. 00:08:33It seems like you don't care. 00:08:37So the Pandora papers. 00:08:42We can start with. 00:08:44And I love that they need to Pandora, so I can listen Pandora. Where does Pandora Pandora's Box? Come from Greek? Mythology, Pandora. The first woman on Earth. 00:08:59Pandora was according to the myth, the first woman on earth. She was created by the Gods. 00:09:05Each one of them gave him gave her a gift. That's her name in. Greek means the one who Bears all gifts. 00:09:13Pandora was created as a punishment to the mankind. 00:09:19Zeus wanted to punish people because Prometheus stole the fire and gave it to the people. 00:09:27Right. He said, you can do whatever it is that you want with. The people. Just don't give them fire. 00:09:37Don't give him that. 00:09:39But he did when he was punished. 00:09:42Fraternity, until Hercules. 00:09:46Set him free. We had an eagle. I believe it was an eagle was to eat his liver or something like that over and over. At the end of every day would regenerate and he had this massive Eagle. He was just in Chains title to some some rocks and pillar. 00:10:04And so Zeus wanted to punish people because of that, right? It's the Greek story of creation, essentially. 00:10:12So Pandora was given a box where jar. 00:10:17Call pitsos in Greek. 00:10:20And the gods told her that the box contains special gifts from them, but she was not allowed to open the box ever. 00:10:29They say that she was created with the Curiosity. 00:10:35But at the end, she could not hold herself anymore. She open the box and all the illnesses, and hardships that got hit in the Box. Are you coming out? Pandora was scared? 00:10:45Cuz she saw all the evil spirits coming out and try to close the box as fast as possible. 00:10:53Closing hope inside. 00:10:57Hope indeed stayed inside because that was Zeus Zeus's. Will he wanted to let people suffer in order to understand that they should not disobey their gods. 00:11:09And it was the right person to do it because she was curious enough, but not malicious. 00:11:14Yikes, again. It's essentially the story of Adam and Eve. 00:11:19Don't need other the forbidden fruit. Why? 00:11:23Because if you do, 00:11:26You know, the knowledge of Good and Evil. That's why I love the gnostics Oreo creation because 00:11:34It's fucking bad-ass, write the reason the demiurge. Didn't want you to know knowledge was so you wouldn't understand that you are in some Matrix crew, some false Matrix created by Him. 00:11:49and by his little cronies group, right his little 00:11:52Posse of demons. 00:11:55So anyways, they needed this as if oh, yeah, we're releasing something new into the world of people are going to know that the wealthy Elites are 00:12:06or hiding their money. 00:12:10So Pandora papers, a money bomb with political ripples Revelations from nearly 12 million. Leaked confidential, Financial records have thrown light on on the concealed wealth of power. A powerful public figures around the world. How did they hide their money? And why is this information important? 00:12:30So Jordan Jordan Jordan's king of Mass on her million and concealed property, putting homes in Malibu, London and Washington and alleged Mistress of Russia's leader. May covertly by a luxury. Residence Inn. Minako, the Republic's prime minister and anti-corruption, crusader secretly acquired, a French Riviera State. Listen, we knew this ship weenie. This, this is nothing new. So 00:13:01The report. 00:13:03And then it says the name Pandora comes from the Greek myth about a sealed jar. Containing the world evil was based on what is 00:13:12what its authors described as 11.9 million records League from 14 firms in the offshore Financial Services industry depicting how the wealthy hide their assets more than 600 journalists and in a hundred Seventeen countries worked on. Don't you think that if they really truly didn't want this getting out? 00:13:35They would have stopped it from getting out. 600 people. Oregon has, don't you think one at least one of those journalists? 00:13:44It's paid off by somebody. 00:13:49Right. 00:13:51So, tell me something. I don't know. 00:13:55I don't know how to how does this differ from the Panama Panama papers of 2016? 00:14:01And or papers established Links of offshore activity to more than twice as many politicians and public figures of officials as the Panama papers did and incriminating report about the Offshore Banking industry released by The journalism Consortium, 5 years ago, the Pandora papers include information on more than 330 politicians, and public figures from over 90 countries and territories, including 35, current and former country leaders. 00:14:31I knew that. 00:14:33How do the wealthy hide money? 00:14:36Tax Havens, such as Panama, Dubai Monaco's hotel, in the Cayman Islands. 00:14:44As well as some American states like South Dakota and Delaware, there's like buildings with what a hundred and something thousand corporations registered. 00:14:55It is whether Obama say that the really big building or blah blah blah. 00:15:00We know this. Why is it Leo? Why is this illegal? Cuz they made the system. 00:15:08Why is this important? It's really not. I mean we knew this. 00:15:1221 here in total, 35 current, and former national leaders appear in the leak, alongside 400 officials from nearly a hundred countries. This is different. Now, more than a hundred billion euros, $29,000 4 accounts, 30 current, and former leaders in 300, public officials are named the first leaks October 2021. So you see that they don't even have your fucking information. Right? So one report says, one thing and then report says, another, an estimated, 32 trillion, maybe heading from being taxed. According to reports. 00:15:47I look through some of the list. 00:15:50Are the few Americans? 00:15:52Robert F. Smith, Robert C Brockman Jared wheat. 00:15:57David R Hixson, which is a convicted Criminal. 00:16:02And also, those are it was a serial killer I think on here, too. 00:16:07A convicted drug Smuggler. 00:16:10Convicted murderer and real estate are Robert Durst. 00:16:15Suspected serial killer. 00:16:17Peace. 00:16:20So this guy is awaiting sentencing. 00:16:25Wow, okay, first degree. Murder tampering with evidence bail. Jumping illegally, possessing a firearm misdemeanor. Come on. 00:16:33At 70 years old. 00:16:37Well, okay, so 00:16:41we knew this ship. 00:16:44Tell me something that I don't know about. 00:16:46And the reason I bring this up is because again, they are what? 00:16:53Taking away from the Limelight and making you focus, your energy, your attention, which is a commodity nowadays. 00:17:01I checked how much time I was spending on social on Instagram. 00:17:06Is it going? I'm part of the system as well. Just like you. 00:17:11I'm part of it. That's fine. Whatever. You know, we live in a society were. 00:17:17That's just the way it is. 00:17:22You got to be able to sometimes break free from The Matrix. The point is 00:17:28Even if you're part of the system, you have to know you're part of the system. 00:17:33It's okay. It's a problem when you're fully asleep. 00:17:37What's it going to be the red pill or the blue pill if you're fully asleep, that's when the problem is, is the issue. I saw that movie. 00:17:47Was Ryan Reynolds free guy? 00:17:52And I love.

Nashville, Tennessee, is home to the country's first tri-branded Marriott hotel. Developed by North Point Hospitality Group, the 470-room limited-service property consists of transient brands AC Hotel and SpringHill Suites, and Residence Inn, an extended-stay hotel. Located in downtown's SoBro neighborhood where government offices are located, the $140 million complex is also across from Music City Center, a six-year-old facility with more than 2 million square feet of event space. Since it opened, the hotel has been at near capacity every day. In this episode, you'll hear from executives and managers at North Point Hospitality and First Hospitality Group of Chicago, which each opened a tri-branded hotel in the past 12 months. They share the state of the tri-brand business so far, including some unforeseen challenges; how convention and tourism officials grasp the multi-flag concept; and how guests react when they realize there are three different hotels under one roof.
Next month, we will have been in this house for two years and it's taken me all of that time to finally get around to beginning the build out of the two basement spaces that will ultimately become my studios — one for podcasting and digital media and the other for painting and printing. The previous owners of the house were both makers—he was a woodworker and an engineer and she was a painter. Together, they literally built the house in 1956 and in fact one of the downstairs spaces served as a wood shop where the living room built-ins and the kitchen cabinets were made. So there's a history of making here and I knew before we even bought the house and moved in that I wanted at least one of the spaces downstairs as a studio, and I think I even told Adrianne that I would start building it out on day one. But here we are two years later and still no studio. What happened? I think like so many creative endeavors, it has something to do with fear, or what Steven Pressfield calls “Resistance.” And before I go much further, if you are a maker or a creator and have not read The War of Art, either pause this episode and go order yourself a copy or write yourself a note to pick one up after. It may take a couple readings to really get it, but once it sinks in, it will offer a ton of insight into the creative process and how self-doubt and fear can be debilitating until you get a handle on them.Subscribe: Apple Podcasts | Pocket Casts | Overcast | RSSFilmmaker Brian Carlson made a terrific short film about lawnmower racing called 41x.Lens Culture recently shared a brilliant photo essay by photographer Michael Christopher Brown called Yo Soy Fidel. In the essay, Brown follows the “Freedom Caravan” that carried Fidel Castro's remains across Cuba after his death. It's a gorgeous set of photographs. One of my favorite artists, Shepard Fairey, just completed the largest piece of his career. It's a 15 story mural of Johnny Cash that takes up the entire side of the Residence Inn hotel in Sacramento. The mural was inspired by a photograph by Jim Marshall of Cash at Folsom Prison and in this interview with Capital Public Radio, Fairey talks about how the piece came together.Music in this episode: The Wrong Way (Jahzzar) / CC BY-SA 4.0

America is starting to get numb to the mass shootings...Stop me if you've heard this before A man opened fire on concert goers and took out quite a few of them before shooting himself.I'm not trying to be cynical about the matter, but this is not uncommon in the U.S. any more. As much as we try to stop foreign terrorists from harming us, it's the domestic terrorists who are doing the most damage. Whether it's in our schools, movie theaters, and now concerts, people are inflicting fear and harm on their own citizens. What's the answer? Tighten hotel security? Uh, okay. I can't wait to have to take my shoes off at a Residence Inn. On tonight's show, we'll discuss this incident and how we'll once again do nothing about it. We'll also Get Crystalized and talk about trending topics on the web.The Talk 2 Q Radio Show! "No experts. Just opinions."Show No. 731Scheduled for 60-75 mins.www.Talk2Q.com Hosted on Acast.
