Es ist ein Naturerlebnis und zugleich ein Abenteuer. Die Eisriesenwelt ist ein beeindruckendes Höhlensystem im Salzburger Land, mitten im Tennengebirge. Die Höhle gilt mit einer Gesamtlänge von rund 42 Kilometern als größte Eishöhle der Welt. Begehbar ist sie in Gruppen zusammen mit einem Höhlenführer auf rund 1,5 Kilometern. Insgesamt 700 Stufen geht es dann auf einem hölzernen Rundweg zunächst bergauf und natürlich auch wieder runter. Karbidlampen und einige wenige brennende Magnesiumstreifen tauchen die unterschiedlichen Eisformationen in ein fast magisches Licht. Mit etwas Fantasie erkennt man dann den Eiselefanten, einen Raben aus der nordischen Mythologie oder auch den Eispalast. Wobei der Eiselefant, aufgrund steigender Temperaturen, schon einiges von seiner eigentlichen Form verloren hat und nur noch schwer als Rüsseltier zu erkennen ist. 38 Euro kostet dieses Naturerlebnis, inklusive der Anfahrt zur Höhle mit einer Gondel und einer rund 90minütigen launigen und informativen Führung durchs Eis. Rund 160.000 Besucher kommen jedes Jahr aus aller Welt und für viele ist es nicht der erste Besuch. Auch wenn man aufgrund der zahlreichen Stufen einigermaßen gut zu Fuß sein sollte, so ist der gemütliche Rundgang sowohl für Kinder als auch für Erwachsene im fortgeschrittenen Alter gut machbar. Eine Mütze, Handschuhe, festes Schuhwerk und eine wärmende Jacke sind von Vorteil, denn auch in den Sommermonaten herrscht in der Höhle eine stetige Temperatur von um die Null Grad. Die Eisriesenwelt ist ein faszinierendes Naturerlebnis. Reportagen von Carsten Vick

Yonatan Brafman is an assistant professor of Modern Judaism in the Department of Religion and a member of the Program in Judaic Studies. He is a scholar of modern Jewish thought and a philosopher of religion. His research focuses on the intersection of Jewish thought, Jewish law, and contemporary moral, legal, and political philosophy. He also studies the implications of religious ritual for critical social theory and praxis.Previously, he was assistant professor of Jewish thought and ethics and the director of the Handel Center for Ethics and Justice at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He has held fellowships in the Department of Religion and Program in Judaic Studies at Princeton University (2014–2015), the Tikvah Center for Law and Jewish Civilization at New York University Law School (2012–2013), and the Center for Jewish Law and Contemporary Civilization at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University (2008–2010). He holds a PhD in Philosophy of Religion and Jewish Thought from the Department of Religion at Columbia University, where he also received his BA, MA, and MPhil.
